@LexiM That is GORGEOUS. I'm not going to admit to how much stuff I have bought...

@roarfeckingroar a caprese salad sounds soooo yummy right now.

Agree you all with the gas - with me, unless I burp I feel more sick so belch belch belch #attractive

My DH and I went out last night to watch the satellites passing over and I put my jacket on for first time in awhile. It barely zipped up... And this is my fat jacket haha. Must put down the meat...

Zaalfruit · 21/04/2020 08:24

Morning everyone loved reading about all the belching - my DH calls me Homer Simpson - it makes me feels better if the gas is out the worst is after dinner.

@LexiM that outfit is too precious!! I’m jealous I have brought nothing - I feel like I would have to hide it all from DH I’m meant to be saving for a car. 😂🤣 maybe I can hide everything in my car boot and he won’t see it . I am so tempted to buy a Moses basket the Asda deal is too great to miss.

I haven’t gotten anything for bump creams I’m worried now . I need to order ASAP - I just have coconut oil and been using that as my belly has gone really dry.

Nub theory I think they look at the angle of the baby and they can work it out if it’s a girl or boy. I am FTM and I been looking into it - but I can’t wait for my 20 week scan and if they tell me the gender .

Anyone else know what they are doing for the baby surname - I didn’t take my husbands it didn’t sound right with my name . Is it cruel to double barrel a surname and make babies name extra long....

@quiffy last night I really fancied cream cheese with icing sugar , not even real food. Your lunch sounds interesting- I still can’t smell or have anything that contains meat - I can’t wait till I can eat chicken again and first thing I want is chicken pot pie !

Treaclepie19 · 21/04/2020 08:29

Caprese salad is my favourite thing.
I'm out of salad though. Was trying not to do a food shop but think DH will have to pop out for the essentials today. Our big shop isn't until Monday.

@Zaalfruit I have the bio oil but haven't used it yet. I always leave it late because I keep forgetting and my stretch marks aren't too bad.

bluemoon2468 · 21/04/2020 08:33

@HerondaleDucks it's where you look at the angle of the 'nub' (which is your baby's forming genitals) on your 12 week scan picture and use that to make a prediction about the sex. Boy nubs are said to rise whereas girl nubs stay flat. It's not particularly accurate, but is fun to look at just for a laugh! Have seen a few people on MN getting really upset that the nub experts got it wrong and they'd had their heart set on what they were told, which is a bit silly!

LexiM · 21/04/2020 09:26

Thanks everyone - I got it from a small company on Instagram called Toucan Toucan. It was expensive but they had an Easter discount. I will definitely be getting some cheaper clothes generally!
Ooh @Quiffy what have you brought so far? I like it when people have got things as it makes me feel like I can haha!
I’m with everyone on the burping - if I don’t I also feel really unwell.
@Zaalfruit boot sounds like a good idea! It’s not even like you can have things delivered elsewhere to hide 😂

I have the Weleda oil and it smells lovely. I think I will get through so much though and that’s without using it twice a day, so will probably swap to a cheaper brand! I either forget to use it at the moment or I remember but I’m clothed and it’s oily so don’t bother.

I don’t think I could do a nub prediction as baby had his/her legs crossed and up.

Aquablue1123 · 21/04/2020 09:51

Hi girls,

I've just got back from the scan, he's ok moving about and strong heart beat. So relieved :-) plus doctor pointed out his little pee pee so defo a boy 🤣. The doctor also told me to get a grip and stop worrying, because I ask a million questions. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Still not ready to look for any clothes or items yet but I'm happy; just one day at a time.

Quiffy · 21/04/2020 09:55

@Zaalfruit that actually sounds like a pretty neat snack. Ahh I can't imagine life without meat atm, I even dreamed about Nandos last night.

Surname wise, double-barrelled can be nice, esp if you want to have both your names.

@LexiM Too much haha. Err... some (lots) of clothes (my mum has went clothes crazy too), a prep machine, sleepyhead (good secondhand price for day naps) and one or two (or three) soft toys. I'm now eyeing up cribs and bought some wool for a blanket. Then I worry I'm jinxing things but can't stop.

Quiffy · 21/04/2020 09:56

@Aquablue1123 so happy for your scan! And congrats on a baby boy

LexiM · 21/04/2020 10:27

@Aquablue1123 glad the scan was ok and has reassured you a bit. So exciting to know you’re having a boy!

@quiffy I know what you mean about getting stuff but I also think it’s nice to just enjoy the moment in time now. My Mum has also got a babygrow, I think the fact we don’t know the gender yet has slowed her down a bit! That being said she’s already knitted a blanket, a Matt for the floor, a teddy and now she’s onto a newborn cardi. She said it’s tiny so I can’t imagine it will take that long. She also got some wool yesterday for a more finer newborn shawl/blanket. My sister had one with my niece and it was beautiful.
My SIL also got us a jelly cat bunny, it’s so soft. I could go mad getting them but trying to be sensible as I know it’s the kind of thing people like to buy as gifts.
I think it’s good to get things if they are a good price especially second hand as they go so quickly. I will be doing that once we are free! 😄 I said to my husband the other day as soon as we are allowed out we need to go and look at bigger items just in case we get locked down again and do have to order online. I’m ready! 🤣
I think mentally it also seems like less money to buy a bit each month, even though it’s no different to saving the money and buying later, I will properly start doing this from the next scan.

HerondaleDucks · 21/04/2020 10:36

@Aquablue1123 good news on the scan. It's good to have your mind put at rest. I remember when I had my emergency scan the feeling of relief made me cry.

I've got a few bits but no clothes because I was waiting to see whetger it is a boy or girl.

BntTowers · 21/04/2020 10:37

@Aquablue1123 congrats on your scan and finding out baby is a boy.

@Quiffy I've started buying a few bits, I've ordered some muslins from a couple of places, tempted to buy some clothes. I've been looking at different Moses baskets the last few days...

Quiffy · 21/04/2020 10:48

@LexiM Most of everything I've bought is secondhand and has been in amazing condition. I'm taking full advantage of people clearing out during lockdown. Every time something comes in the post I get a little buzz that makes it feel a little more real. Then, when we're free I can go find a pram or furniture shopping and splurge a little. Also very excited about clothes in TK Maxx. Tbf, I'm also Christmas shopping right now so I think I'm just not right in the head.

The Jellycat stuff is amazing, I've been buying them for years and got them pottered around the house. DH got me the massive octopus for my 30th. I've picked up a bee and a bat for the LO and I'm sure I'll lose all mine in the next few years haha.

Adoring how crafty your mum is

Treacle81 · 21/04/2020 11:29

Morning girls! Was feeling pretty crappy yesterday with heartburn returning and sore pains. Hopefully today will be better. Welcome newbies 💁‍♀️ So is that 2 little boys and one girl so far? xx

Indigogirl88 · 21/04/2020 12:09

Morning ladies

I'm sooooo hungry this week and struggling not to "eat for two"

I did however manage a pamper session this morning and actually washed my hair and did my make up so I feel tonnes better about myself. I think being cooped in doors all the time is not helping

Weve had the surname debate....my soon to be sil didnt take her boyfriends name for the baby so baby has the same surname as us which got my thinking and as we arent married yet I dont know what to do. Maybe if he proposes I might have a different view 😂

Spark27 · 21/04/2020 12:37

Congratulations @Aquablue1123, how exciting to know the sex.

@Zaalfruit something to think about with the name could be any issues around travelling. When I married DH I looked into the idea of double-barrelling, but his name is so awful it didn't even go with mine (damn him), so I thought about keeping my name. But if you have a kid with a completely different surname to you, and if just you are travelling/flying it can be flagged that you have different surnames and you might need to show their birth certificate to prove you are the mum and can legally take them abroad. Not a huge issue as it's just a piece of paper and different names is really common, but just something to bare in mind. In the end I went with DHs awful name. Hoping when/if DD gets married she takes the other surname Grin

I'm really keen to start buying stuff, even though we dont need much. But holding back til the scan as if it's a boy we'll need all new clothes. Starting to feel nervous again as bump seems to have turned just to wobble, still not really feeling anything (only 17w 3d, I know). 2w 1d till my scan and I CANT WAIT.

Lucylou37 · 21/04/2020 12:40

@Spark27 I know you you mean! I can't work out whether it's too many carbs or a baby growing! I have my 16 week appointment tomorrow, hopefully I can ask lots of questions! I just feel anxious all the time at the moment! Wish we could have a scan a week!

HerondaleDucks · 21/04/2020 13:46

I have my 16 week midwife appointment today. Looking forward to hearing the heartbeat.

BntTowers · 21/04/2020 13:48

@indigogirl88 I'm the same at the moment, I could just eat all the time.

I'm kinda feeling like I'm starting to get a cold, it's probably just hayfever but I'm fed up and I just want to know baby is ok.

roarfeckingroar · 21/04/2020 15:34

@Zaalfruit we will double barrel but I'll only really use my part of the name because it's nicer. DP and I are engaged and I've no plans to change my name when we marry, and he wouldn't agree to baby only having mine, so we've compromised.

Great news @Aquablue1123 !

DP is working away two days this week and last night on the phone he dropped in "you know you mentioned a private scan... I really would like to see the baby again.." HUZZAH my plan to sow a small seed has worked. I shall know the sex soon, although I'm 100% convinced it's a girl.

Aquablue1123 · 21/04/2020 16:03

Thanks ladies, really happy 💙.

@Indigogirl88 yeh I don't know what to do about name to be honest, when I got married I didn't legally change mine so I just double barrel. I wasn't ready to give mine up even though it's not the best name. So not sure whether we should double barrel for the baby too.

@Treacle81 hope you feel better soon! My sickness seems to have subsided again which is good so I really need to kick start the exercise now as I'm feeling flabby.

Spark27 · 21/04/2020 16:10

Excellent work @roarfeckingroar Grin

Buzz22 · 21/04/2020 17:38

@Aquablue1123 congratulations on baby boy 💙 I'm so excited to find out the gender!

@Zaalfruit we are going to double-barrel babies surname as we aren't married. Even if we were I would probably double barrel my surname too as I really like my name! Haha

I didn't know they listened to heartbeat at 16 week midwife appointment? My midwife didn't in my previous pregnancy. Although with everything constantly going wrong and spending every other day at the maternity assessment unit from 16 weeks I did get to hear babies heartbeat a lot anyway.
Is it something you have to ask midwife to do at 16 weeks? Mine is on the 1st so next week.

I have my 16 week consultant appointment this Friday. Unsure if it will be over the phone or in person. Did all you other consultant led ladies manage to get your appointments sorted? I know some of you were still waiting to hear from them.

HerondaleDucks · 21/04/2020 18:25

My GP surgery is keeping midwife appointments face to face, you get temp checked when you go in and they call you the day before to check you don't have symptoms.

The midwife told me last appointment they would want to hear the heartbeat at 16 weeks.
I heard it today and it was magical. Sounded just like a train.

I also think double barrelled surnames are cool! I changed my name to my husbands when we got married as he has 2 children already and I wanted to be part of the family.
I also had a very non english surname which used to confuse people. Now I have a nice common name.

blankiesandunicorns · 21/04/2020 19:42

@HerondaleDucks I'm so jealous you got your mw appointment face to face, mine is Thursday and it's a telephone one. I would've loved to hear the heartbeat must have been lovely. Could do with some reassurance right now

HerondaleDucks · 21/04/2020 19:47

@blankiesandunicorns that's so unfair. Why are you not allowed a face to face appointment?
I'm sorry I feel terrible for talking about mine now.
