Another new thread for the Nov mums to continue our discussion!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@HarrietM87 I hate to say it but they wouldn't scan me when I had a bleed and cramps at 7 weeks and have also said I had to wait. I have a private scan tomorrow and just hoping for the best. Mine wasn't too bad and more spotting than bled so just keeping everything crossed.

A friend of mine (A&E nurse) said if I wanted to get a scan at A&E best bet at the moment is to go in and complain of bleeding and severe cramps just on one side - as a suspected ectopic they have to scan you. If you can't get a private one or you feel desperate I would go back and insist. . . Not what you should have to do but they aren't giving you much choice here!

Tonicandgin · 13/04/2020 14:50

I had a bleed in both previous pregnancies at week14. Both times I was too far along for EPU but not far along enough to see a midwife so I was sent to A&E.

Both times cervix was closed and thankfully was a one off and babies were fine - but they wouldn't scan me. It was tough, especially as everyone knew by that point.

Huge hugs, it's so frustrating they won't scan you reassurance is such a big deal.

Fredthespider · 13/04/2020 15:01

Sorry to hear you couldn't get a scan even though they said they would when you called ahead @HarrietM87. Sadly it is the current RCOG guidelines; I had a good read last week (www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/2020-04-03-guidance-for-rationalising-early-pregnancy-services-in-the-evolving-coronavirus-covid-19-pandemic.pdf)

Were your previous scans private or at the EPU?

Pink15 · 13/04/2020 15:07

@Fredthespider is point 7 talking about mmc? That seems so bad they won't rescan if they're not sure if it's viable 😨

Fredthespider · 13/04/2020 15:21

@Pink15 Yes it sounds like that's the case sadly. I think they're taking a harsh line that they will only scan if they think there's a chance it's ectopic or you're physically unwell through blood loss. I went into the EPU last Monday and there were only 2 other people there. When I went with my ectopic in Feb they saw 30 people in 4 hours.

HarrietM87 · 13/04/2020 15:23

I think because I’ve had 2 scans confirming the baby was in the right place they would have known it wasn’t ectopic. My first scan at 6 weeks was at the EPU but just before lockdown; my 8 week scan was at the private clinic that has been treating my mcs. I’ve emailed them to see if they can see me tomorrow but they’re really far away (2 hrs taxi ride) so might go to window to the womb instead. Next appointment there is Wednesday. I think because a scan doesn’t actually make a difference to the outcome one way or another they’ve stopped doing it. However, I’m on immune suppressant meds and if the baby has died I could obviously stop taking those, but even that wasn’t enough to persuade them.

I haven’t had any new bleeding but constant period like cramping which cannot be good.

Fredthespider · 13/04/2020 15:30

That sounds like that might be the case. It's so frustrating because you're right that a scan won't change the outcome, but the reduction in stress is considerable enough that it's beneficial to have a scan. Hopefully you can get in for a private scan tomorrow and at worst Wed. Good news that you haven't had any new bleeding though.

toastwillsavetheday · 13/04/2020 15:54

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I hope you are well and wish you all an easy journey.
I'm officially 10 weeks +1 day. My sickness has been terrible and non stop since week6. Hinders my everyday jobs and finding it hard to get anything done. Feeling fed up and sad with myself.

Hancock2020 · 13/04/2020 17:01

Leaving for my first scan in 45 mins and I'm like a cat on a hot tin roof! I'm so anxious, I just want everything to be ok. Nothing to say it wont be, but still nervous.

Fredthespider · 13/04/2020 17:04

Good luck @Hancock2020! Hope it goes well x

Hope all went well @Hancock2020

FilthyforFirth · 13/04/2020 19:32

@canueve did you need to have a full or empty bladder for your WTW scan? Mine is tomorrow and trying to mentally prepare. I am not keeping loads of fluids down at the minute.

Hancock2020 · 13/04/2020 20:05

Ok ladies all is well with my jelly bean 😃
Very blurry picture because apparently baby likes to wiggle around already lol but good strong heartbeat and nothing to worry about

Chickoletta · 13/04/2020 20:12

Good news @Hancock2020.

DH managed to pick up a pregnancy test today after the midwife said I should do one on Saturday evening. It was a Clearblue Digital and came up very quickly as Pregnant 3+. I know that it doesn't rule out a MMC but I guess it's slightly reassuring, if only as it makes me feel that I'm not imagining my continuing symptoms. As I've said before though, in this kind of situation the only thing worse than the fear is the hope... Scan at 11am on Weds and I appreciate that I'm very lucky to be able to have one.

Pink15 · 13/04/2020 20:14

@Hancock2020 so happy for you!! Aww 🥰

Do they print off pictures for you and do you have to pay extra for those? Also did they manager abdominal or have to go TV? Mines Thursday 🙈

Pink15 · 13/04/2020 20:15

@Chickoletta good luck for Wednesday x

ParisInTheSpringtime · 13/04/2020 20:20

Yay @Hancock2020 Grin

@Chickoletta best of luck for Wednesday!

Hancock2020 · 13/04/2020 20:22

@Pink15 I got 1 photo like I say blurry blob really due to wriggly bump and my bladder was filling quickly as well, it was TV because I'm less than 10 weeks. I thought I was 8 today but I'm only 7+5, only 2 days out lol.

burntpinky · 13/04/2020 20:26

@Hancock2020 great news! So pleased fir you!!!!

ParisInTheSpringtime · 13/04/2020 21:12

@Pink15 I had an abdominal scan at 6+2, so I think it depends.
