Another new thread for the Nov mums to continue our discussion!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@SMcG1 I suffer horrendously from hayfever and I did when I was pregnant last time too. I went to the doctors about it but they said we aren't supposed to take antihistamines as there isn't enough data or knowledge about the effects during pregnancy. Presumably because pregnant mothers won't want to trial a new drug that might put their baby at risk. So there's not enough evidence to show whether it's harmful or not. So best to stay away.
But if you are suffering from hayfever you can get alternatives. Eye drops, nasal spray etc.

Whoamieven · 12/04/2020 18:12

@Chickoletta oh goodness how scary. It could be a missed miscarriage potentially, sorry to say. That's why you may still feel pregnant and have positive test,
:(

Really hope it's juts that it is hiding x

Whoamieven · 12/04/2020 18:14

Glad I found this thread. You all disappeared from the other one! How do I know when a new thread opens?

I had a big bleed a dew days ago at 10 weeks, scanned and thankfully all looks ok :)

Whoamieven · 12/04/2020 18:16

@Workingmama1 :so sorry to hear. Very similar to what happened to be in late January, so sorry and so hard to sort of know deep down but can't help but hope.

Hancock2020 · 12/04/2020 18:26

Has anybody used the sneak peek DNA test to find out gender before? My husband apparently just cant wait until the 20 week scan 🙄

SqidgeBum · 12/04/2020 18:34

@Hancock2020 I have never heard of that. How accurate is it? I know the 20 week scan is only 80% accurate, but I was scanned 3 times after my 20 week scan on DD and asked every time just to be sure Grin

ParisInTheSpringtime · 12/04/2020 18:38

What is the sneak peek test? I know you can find out the sex from the harmony test.

Hancock2020 · 12/04/2020 18:49

It's a company called sneak peek, saying 99.1% accuracy from 8 weeks

Tonicandgin · 12/04/2020 18:52

Has anyone's bump 'popped'?

It's dc3 and overnight I've suddenly developed a bump! Has anyone else??

With dc2 I switched to maternity trousers at 9 weeks Shock with dc1 I was bursting out of my trousers by the 12 week scan but didn't want to buy maternity clothes until I'd seen the baby scan so was very uncomfortable.

I seem to show very early. Confused

A bit worried the dc's - especially by very astute 6yr old will spot it when I really don't want to tell them until I know everything is okay.

I've been eating so healthily so I know it's not bloating/extra weight.

BeMorePacific · 12/04/2020 18:52

@hancock2020 I’ve seen the adverts too. I’m not convinced by them xx

Hancock2020 · 12/04/2020 18:56

@Tonicandgin I was convinced I had a bump till 7 weeks, then it went, now I'm 8 weeks and can only just get my Jean's on by breathing in. This is number 3 for me so maybe it's normal

Tonicandgin · 12/04/2020 19:02

Exactly the same. I can get them on but the pressure is so uncomfortable, especially with MS nausea. I've dug out mat skinnies and it's bliss!

Pink15 · 12/04/2020 19:03

@SqidgeBum only 80%?! Surely that's not right 🙈

Hancock2020 · 12/04/2020 19:15

@Tonicandgin wish I had maternity clothes still. Mine were thrown many years ago, and now with not much money coming in I'm not sure how I'm going to get any tbh 🥺

SqidgeBum · 12/04/2020 19:17

The sonographer described it to me that across the country they are wrong 20% of the time on average, so even if one hospital gets it right 95% of the time, they have to say it's only 80% accurate. I know a good few people who have been told one gender and then it was the other. It's not guaranteed. Although my sister is a nurse and said she can see gender on a scan at 10 weeks once the baby is positioned right, so I think it's just a way of them covering themselves in case they are wrong.

Pink15 · 12/04/2020 19:18

@SqidgeBum wow didn't know that ! Kinda worrying haha incase you buy lots of gender specific things!

SqidgeBum · 12/04/2020 19:33

Ye it's never 100% accurate. I bought a few bits for my DD before she arrived, but her room was pretty neutral, and her clothes were too. Where I come from (rural ireland) it's considered bad luck to buy for an unborn baby anyway, so I erred on the side of caution. I got so many gifts of clothes anyway that I didnt need to buy much. This time I will be hardly getting anything.

Pink15 · 12/04/2020 19:38

Ah I'm gonna be so excited to go shopping for pram and clothes etc! I just hope coronavirus doesn't spoil this experience :(I know in grand scheme of things all that matters is a healthy baby though

Hancock2020 · 12/04/2020 19:57

@Pink15 corona virus is ruining it for me lol, when I can get back to work and earn money again then I'll be ok.

SqidgeBum · 12/04/2020 19:58

I hated shopping for the pram. Too much choice! Hahaha. It was very stressful. But that sort of thing, shopping, comes at 30 week ish, although I didnt buy clothes til 35 weeks. So lots of time! I wouldn't worry about coronavirus effecting that.

KatieGlo · 12/04/2020 20:17

Question for the Ladies who have had babies before...
Would you say it's worth buying an expensive pram, or would you say they're all pretty much the same and may as well save money?
Also are Moses baskets actually useful or are those u-shaped cushions more practical (can just pop 'em on the sofa, on the bed etc)?

Not buying anything yet, but did a bit of an online look about and the range is huge!

SqidgeBum · 12/04/2020 20:35

I bought a relative expensive pram. The issue actually is with your car. You have to buy the car seat that fits your car, and if you have odd seats or something, you may be restricted by what pram you can get. We ended up looking at all types of prams, choosing one, and then realising their car seats wont fit, so we narrowed it down to 2. If you dont want to put the car seat into the pram, then just go for one that folds easily and fits well into your boot, and buy whatever car seat fits.

Moses basket wise, I used one, a second hand one I got for £10. I also had a bouncer, second hand, for popping baby in downstairs during the day in all rooms when she was awale, and a downstairs bassinet (second hand), for the sitting room so I could cook etc and keep a close eye on her while she slept.

Fredthespider · 12/04/2020 20:42

@KatieGlo

  1. Pram - we just went for a cheap travel system, think we paid around £350 for wheels, seat, lie flat carry cot and car seat. From speaking to other mums I couldn't see anything that their more expensive ones did that ours didn't. I think there was one occasion going down a steep hill that one pram had the ability to adjust the angle of the carry cot, but they paid over £1000 for it.

Now we're over a year into using it and when we went on holiday recently we borrowed someone elses fold up stroller as our pram is just huge and takes up so much space. I couldn't even fit the wheels in the boot of my old car so used to have to put them in the back footwell. So really, you're looking at 18 months usage of a pram before a stroller (which can also set you back £200 if you want) would be more practical. I haven't even thought about what we're going to do when number 2 comes along and whether we want a double or not.

  1. Moses basket - mine refused to sleep in it and I was lucky that she wasn't a big baby as other people have said they grew out of theirs by 2 months. On the flip you can get them very cheaply if not free on facebook, so almost a no harm in getting one just in case.

I highly recommend a next to me crib which is bigger than a moses basket and great for nighttimes, it's also quite flat and easy to pack away if you think you might need to travel with baby under 6 months and you can avoid getting a travel cot for a while.

I didn't get a sleepyhead or similar, but NCT buddies who had them thought they were amazing. I just couldn't justify the cost. You can use them in the cots too, however they do go against the lullaby trusts recommendations for safer sleep so use with caution.

Workingmama1 · 12/04/2020 20:54

I've got my fingers crossed for you @Chickoletta. Hopefully its just hiding from you.
I so want a glass of wine too but playing it safe just in case.... also still taking my pregnancy vitamins. It really socks being in limbo.
Ironically my bleed the trigger the initial scan was tiny, so small I nearly didn't ring the EPU and I'm sure some wouldn't have scanned me, I'm not sure if its better to know now and have this crushing feeling of limbo or to have not found out until I started bleeding/12 week scan.
If you are struggling I'd really recommend the miscarriage association helpline, especially if you've not got lots of people to talk to to process your feelings and understand what could be happening (my husband is a let's be positive kind of guy which is not great in this situation!)

calimommy · 12/04/2020 21:07

@KatieGlo I have 6 buggies of various shapes and sizes 🙈😂 come at me with questions! Haha

  1. Bugaboo Cameleon
  2. Uppababy Vista (single and double + ride on board)
  3. Joovy double
  4. Mamas & Papas stroller
  5. Micro buggy (fits in over head bins on plane)
  6. Jeep running buggy (single)

I don't think there is any one stroller/buggy that does everything (obviously) but if you identify what exactly you need it for then it helps to narrow your choice.
