@Caldey if you’re subclinical and your consultant said 1.97 is fine then I’m sure he’s right (guidance varies as to whether it should be below 2 or 2.5 anyway). You just need to go to your GP and tell them that the guidance recommends every 4 weeks in pregnancy and I’m sure they’ll do it. In my experience they don’t know much but once they read what they have to read they do follow it. As an alternative, can your fertility clinic not repeat the bloods? It’s a cheap test and pretty standard.

Caldey11 · 16/03/2020 21:37

@HarrietM87

Thanks, I will go back to my GP and ask for it to be repeated in four weeks' time. The NICE guidelines don't specify it needs to be every 4 weeks but that is what the fertility clinic told me. The recent blood test was done at my GP, I just gave the result to my fertility clinic for their advice. Assuming all goes well at my 7 week scan at the fertility clinic my understanding is that I graduate from there and they won't have any further interactions with me, I am just keen to start seeing a midwife to make sure future tests are done when they should be.

Busybee143 · 16/03/2020 21:46

@Beesly i opted for a weeks time as i was scared people would panic close businesses because of this virus

Happythecrocodile · 16/03/2020 21:54

Hi, can I join? I’m only 4+6, due around 17 Nov going by LMP. But I had a miscarriage at 5+5 in January. This is baby no 2, as I have a nearly 2 year old.
I am panicking a bit about this new guidance. I really didn’t want to tell work this early, especially after my mc. I can work from home some days but I can’t completely do my job from home as it involves on site meetings. I know my/ baby’s health comes first but I’m really stressing about work now.

ACatCalledLola · 16/03/2020 22:01

@Caldey11 congratulations on your pregnancy! Do you have an existing thyroid condition? Pregnancy can cause thyroid conditions - I don’t know if IVF makes you more susceptible, otherwise if you have either an under active or overactive thyroid then are you under consultant care? In my case I have Graves Disease which causes an overactive thyroid. I am under consultant care but my GP checks my thyroid levels every 2 months as standard. Once I found out I was pregnant I got my gp to do blood tests (TSH, T3 and T4) and then contacted the hospital. Hospitals run endocrinology clinics for pregnant women and I was given an appointment the next week. I will now see an endocrinologist every 4 weeks (rather than the usual 4 months) and have blood tests every 3-4 weeks. I’m not booked in yet for my pregnancy (actually going to go to a different hospital) but I wanted to see someone as soon as possible. I hope that helps!

ACatCalledLola · 16/03/2020 22:05

Sorry @Caldey11 I didn’t update the thread before I replied 🙈 I think in your case I would contact your local hospital and get onto their pregnancy endocrinology clinic. There will be one at least once a week. From experience it’s sometimes best to email them rather than waiting on hold for bloody ages.

AnxiousLady1 · 16/03/2020 22:11

@Anon87 Yes I mentioned it this morning, and a few have responded saying they have experienced similar in the last day or two. Main thing is to not worry. From everything I've read it all sounds pretty normal. Obviously not experiencing alarm is easier said than done. But I do know I had similar on my last pregnancy (around this time too) and immediately went to the EPU. They scanned and all was fine Saw heartbeat etc. They said at the time it was all pretty normal . Still didn't stop me panicking this morning!!!

Caldey11 · 16/03/2020 22:27

@ACatCalledLola

Thank you so much! I didn't know I could just contact the hospital and make an appointment with the endo department, I will definitely try to do that, I thought I had to wait for it all to go through my midwife. I had a partial thyroidectomy back in 2005 and was told I had Hashimotos, I used to get my levels checked every year. I started taking thyroxine back in 2014 to lower it enough for fertility (it's been a long TTC journey) and I've had it checked every year since then. The annoying thing is that the dose has only ever been changed once, just before I started IVF because it went up quite a bit. I saw a private thyroid consultant last year who said I was misdiagnosed with Hashis because I was antibody negative so said I am just subclinical. Either way I know it is important to keep it monitored even if my GP seems clueless.

thenextadventure2020 · 16/03/2020 22:32

Hi all,
As I understand it from today's press conference, current advice is for pregnant women to practice 'social distancing' including working from home where possible (link on usiage's post above)
BUT - in a few days time they will be calling for pregnant women (and other high risk categories) to self isolate for 12 weeks. They are hoping this is being overcautious but basically not enough pregnant women have caught Covid-19 and then had babies for them to be sure, and there is a risk to early pregnancy from anything that may cause a sustained high temperature. On the plus side, other coronaviruses DON'T tend to carry risk to the foetus in the way that viruses like the Zika virus does.
Hope that helps anyone who doesn't want to watch the whole 1 hour press conference - for those who are interested, it is available on youtube

HarrietM87 · 16/03/2020 22:33

@Caldey just to say that definitely worth trying your hospital’s endo dept but mine will never see me in pregnancy because they expect it to be managed by the GP, even though I do have hashimotos. I imagine if you’re subclinical they have even more of a case for fobbing you off. I wasn’t under consultant care in my last pregnancy even though I had the thyroid issues plus recurrent miscarriage. It’s just the luck of the draw depending on what your hospital is like. Good luck anyway!

Lindsay1988 · 16/03/2020 22:45

Hi all, I'm 5+1 so due 17th November.

Re - isolation. Please read the government guidance here, the press conference does not seem to have been correct. www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

Yes, pregnant women are apparently in a high risk group now, but there is a second, higher risk group (people having chemo etc) who it says the NHS will contact directly next week. I imagine this is the 12 week isolation group.

Please try not to spread misinformation as I'd hate for someone to feel they had to announce it to their employer etc before they were ready on the wrong advice. Personally I work in a frontline public service so will still be working tomorrow but will be avoiding public transport and shops as much as possible.

Whoamieven · 16/03/2020 23:00

Can some people explain new threads and place marking please!

Caldey11 · 16/03/2020 23:12

@Lindsay1988

We aren't spreading misinformation, this is from the website you linked, it clearly says pregnant women should be doing all they can to limit contact with others.

What is social distancing?

Social distancing measures are steps you can take to reduce the social interaction between people. This will help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

They are:

Avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). These symptoms include high temperature and/or new and continuous cough;
Avoid non-essential use of public transport, varying your travel times to avoid rush hour, when possible; 3.Work from home, where possible. Your employer should support you to do this. Please refer to employer guidance for more information;
Avoid large gatherings, and gatherings in smaller public spaces such as pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres, bars, clubs
Avoid gatherings with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media.
Use telephone or online services to contact your GP or other essential services.
Everyone should be trying to follow these measures as much as is pragmatic.

For those who are over 70, have an underlying health condition or are pregnant, we strongly advise you to follow the above measures as much as you can, and to significantly limit your face-to-face interaction with friends and family if possible.

This advice is likely to be in place for some weeks.

Happymama24 · 16/03/2020 23:25

Marking my place 😁 tiredness is killing me at the moment. I only 4 +5 weeks...

Novmumtobe · 16/03/2020 23:44

@caldey11 when I say spreading misinformation I mean a number of people in this thread saying that pregnant women have to self isolate for 12 weeks. That is not the case. Pregnant women should be social distancing yes, not self isolating. Two very different things. I'm in the same boat but sadly don't have a choice but to go to work 😔

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/03/2020 05:27

@Novmumtobe completely agreed. There is no need to self-isolate - do as much as you can. I suspect that we are not actually at any increased risk, and this is very much precautionary. I’m going to go about my usual life until I can’t anymore (ie until my gym shuts 😂).

littlegem84 · 17/03/2020 05:36

Anyone keen for a Facebook group? I admit I find it hard keeping up with posts as they are laid out on mn.

I’ll set one up (which will be private) so if you want to join, let me know and I’ll add you 😀

EssentialHummus · 17/03/2020 06:26

Yes please littlegem. I’m on one for my older daughter and it’s a massive help for middle of the night chat/panicked questions etc. Also just nice to get to know everyone better.

OP posts:
anon5555 · 17/03/2020 06:35

I'll probably not join the Facebook group until I have told family and friends 😀 in case I bump into anyone I know on the group! Wishing you ladies all the best with your pregnancies xx

TangBloodyFastic · 17/03/2020 06:43

Morning all
4+1 with my first and so far no symptoms, approx when do they start?
Due date is around 23 Nov.
Don't actually think the pregnancy has sunk in yet Confused

SecondSecret · 17/03/2020 07:02

I’d love to join the Facebook group - I didn’t join the one setup back in October as was keeping it all a secret but after the MMC in Dec I’m not bothered this time round so will be nice to be able to say yes!

NoseringGirl · 17/03/2020 07:10

I'd love to join the Facebook group please!
We had the last one I was in set to 'secret' so it wasn't searchable, we were able to add people with their email address.

SJ1989 · 17/03/2020 07:12

@littlegem84 yes please I find it hard some days keeping up on here, will it be a secret group? So people not in it cant see we are part of it yet?

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/03/2020 07:12

It’s a no from me for Facebook - I’m here because it’s anonymous. Hope this thread won’t die because of it.

Following our scan yesterday we are now calling the future baby “blob”. I think we might need a better name 😂

ACatCalledLola · 17/03/2020 07:17

I’m also up for a fb group. I’m in two groups for my dds and they are still busy 3 and 5 years later. Both groups are secret ones so no one can see who is in them and they’re not searchable. Think I’d prefer this one to be too.
