I watched the speech and have mixed feelings about being called high risk. On the one hand I'm glad they are finally taking it seriously for pregnant women - felt like we were having to fend for ourselves before. On the other hand it's really scary and it did make me sad - we were trying for a baby and I'm thrilled we got pregnant but I'm sad the world is so shit while I'm trying to look after little bean. I guess you can't plan this stuff and we weren't too know - and I even said to husband we'd probably still be trying right now even in these circumstances if we weren't already pregnant so no regrets.

Is the government guidance for pregnant women to isolate for 12 weeks? Wasn't clear in the press conference and read later that pregnant women should take extra precautions to socially distance but not that we need to self isolate for 12 weeks

SkyBlue20 · 16/03/2020 21:41

Just found these on the gov website, which are really useful in outlining what exactly we are and aren’t meant to be doing.

@SkyBlue20 that's quite useful, however it does sound more like self isolating than social distancing.

This whole thing this evening has completely emotionally drained me. I've finally had confirmation from work not to go in tomorrow, but for a while that was worrying.

It is disappointing that we are having to go through this when it should be a happy time, just adding more stress on to the whole situation.

SkyBlue20 · 16/03/2020 22:38

@bnttowers It does rather sound like isolating, doesn’t it? We’ve decided we’ll still see our mums (with hand washing on arrival and no hugs) but keep our distance otherwise for now. If rumours are to be believed, we’ll all be in proper isolation from the weekend anyway.
Glad work have finally got in touch and that you don’t have to go in. It is sad that this is so stressful - not a great time to be pregnant, not that I would take it back, of course!

bluemoon2468 · 16/03/2020 23:12

After a bit of a battle with work I'm now WFH indefinitely from tomorrow. Planning to do the full 12 weeks socially isolated if I can, so only having contact with my husband and only leaving the house to walk round the park every day. It's going to be extremely tough but I can't take the risk. My sister talked some sense into me earlier when I was umming and aahing - she said if I caught CV and lost this baby as a result I would regret every day for the rest of my life not taking more precautions, and she's right. No amount of boredom or struggle is worth losing my child (or my own life) over 😳

Zaalfruit · 17/03/2020 04:35

I am glad so many of you have been offered to work from home . My work place hasn’t still offered it to us. I am not sure if I should tell HR that I’m pregnant it’s so early at 11 weeks. I am worried my 12 scan will be cancelled as well . My husband said if they make you come in I would rather you quit but I don’t want to do that :(

Also since me and my husband have not stock piled as we tend to do small shops I am not sure what to do about food . Tried Asda after work and there was nothing .

Spark27 · 17/03/2020 06:01

@Zaalfruit, I'd definitely tell your employer if I were you. Once they know they are legally obligated to protect you (risk assessments, protect your job, etc). They could argue that they dont know you're in a vulnerable group now so have no strong reason to let you wfh/sign you off. I get that you might not have wanted to tell them yet, but I think this is a unique situation and might have a few knock on effects to our pregnancies (appt locations moving, cancelled antenatal classes, etc).
From what I've read and been told they wont cancel scans as these are seen as vital, but they might move locations or have more spcial measures in place if people are displaying symptoms. x

BntTowers · 17/03/2020 06:54

@Zaalfruit completely agree with @Spark27. Tell them, you are only a week out now and they will have to protect you if they know. It's better to be safe and protect yourself and the baby then worry over being a week early. You only have to tell your line manager or HR department until you are ready to tell everyone else.

bluemoon2468 · 17/03/2020 07:16

@Zaalfruit please tell them. You need to protect yourself.

Lucylou37 · 17/03/2020 07:59

@Zaalfruit I would definitely tell your manager! Thanks to some good advice from @BntTowers and @SkyBlue20 I told my manager yesterday, she was lovely and said whilst she would have to mention it to HR nobody else would know and if I didn't feel comfortable to come in we'd come up with an excuse to tell the rest of the team! Luckily my workplace has now sent us all to work from home, following governments advice!

I'm still very confused about the advice given by government! Does this mean I can't even go to the shops anymore? I live in a flat without a garden, I will be sure to go mad if I can't go outside! Any advice?! Xxx

Lucylou37 · 17/03/2020 08:00

Sorry, I also meant great advice from @lexiM too Smile

BntTowers · 17/03/2020 08:06

@Lucylou37 I think it means to avoid things like that. DH will be going to the shops for us from now on, you can still go outside for a walk which I will be doing as I'll go insane if I have to stay in the house all the time. I suppose it's just try to be aware of your surroundings and avoid situations where you might come into contact with people.
I know it doesn't help too much, but I suppose we can only wait and see what we get told to do next.

I'm very frustrated with all the people on my FB saying to still go out to the pub if you are healthy, they clearly don't understand the slowing the curve thing. If Boris had come out with some sort of plan to help small businesses then people wouldn't be rebelling against the social distancing and actually helping to slow the curve.

Lucylou37 · 17/03/2020 08:10

@BntTowers thank you so much for a bit more clarity! I guess I'll have to do that going forward now (I love going to the shops for food)! How are you doing?! Xxxx

The whole thing is a complete shit show by the government to be honest! So many businesses and jobs are at risk, I know a lot of people that run and work in hospitality businesses! The government have not forced closure on pubs/restaurants which means these small businesses can't claim on their insurance, so they have keep open to avoid going bankrupt!

BntTowers · 17/03/2020 08:25

@Lucylou37 I agree out government is doing absolutely nothing to actually help people and businesses. You only need to compare to what Macron said yesterday to see just how pathetic ours is being about protecting people's jobs.

Lucylou37 · 17/03/2020 08:36

@BntTowers I know! Totally agree with you, could help but think he looked like Gordon the Gopher (if that's not before your time) during the press conference!

I have my 12-week scan next week! I feel like I'm the only one that hasn't had a private scan and am getting really nervous!!

Xxxx

Indigogirl88 · 17/03/2020 08:48

Sound advice ladies I'm exactly the same with telling work or not. I'm wfh this week but due in next week, however I also have asthma so that might bide me sometime before I have to tell them next week. My scan is Thursday and getting really nervous about it as I want it to still go ahead and everything to be ok! I'm also nervous about telling my boss as I'm new to the job I'm not sure how they'll take it, but my family have said that's not really my problem nor my fault that theres a pandemic

Treacle81 · 17/03/2020 08:52

Hi girls! Isn’t this just awful. I’ve been terrible with morning sickness so welcome the break ‘for now’ but I’m sure if kept in till June will soon go crazy! What does it mean for our partners who cannot work from home? Nothing is clear. My citizens was told her partner was t allowed to be at scan with her, so be prepared for this - gutting! It’s all precaution though as we just don’t know enough xx

LexiM · 17/03/2020 08:55

Yes @Zaalfruit definitely tell your boss, they can’t assess your needs if they aren’t aware.
Glad your boss was good @Lucylou37 - I haven’t had a private scan either and just waiting for a date now.
Totally agree about the government! The main role in my job is preparing for an annual event, which insurance are unlikely to pay out on if cancelled. It’s later in the year but we are currently deciding whether to wait and see if it can go ahead or cancel now to save more money should it be cancelled. It’s very difficult and worrying for us all.

Quiffy · 17/03/2020 09:29

Morning everyone - hope everyone's not too worried (hard times though!)

@Zaalfruit I agree with everyone else, I would tell them. It's only a week now and these are crazy times that need special measures.

@Treacle81 I was wondering about whether my DH would be allowed into the scan with me now. I'm taking him to appointment and will see what happens. I really need him in the consultant appointment with me, just because if I'm anxious I'll not take some info in. Will see what happens! Mine is still 2 weeks away

I think I'll need to avoid Facebook as much as possible. There is so much fighting on our local community pages over people saying to avoid pubs and restaurants if they're going to be in contact with vulnerable and then others saying that's ridiculous we need to support our local businesses. It's getting crazy. I feel awful for these businesses but I really don't want to be going there. A few have said they will do takeaways and deliver, which I'm more inclined to help and buy (although I've also read that you should be cautious with takeaways). It's so hard!

If anyone does online shops, Tesco lets you book in 4 weeks in advance. I've pre-booked my Friday slot for next 4 weeks as they're already booking out like crazy. I don't know what will happen if they stop these home deliveries though as DH doesnt drive.

Spark27 · 17/03/2020 09:45

@Lucylou37, I've not had a scan yet either. Got my 12w scan thursday am, will be about 12w 3d. So nervous and keen to find out that it's not just wind Grin

Spark27 · 17/03/2020 09:48

And regarding taking people along to scans I'd check with your local hospital. I follow mine on fb and they keep releasing their updated policy on it. Mine is currently saying only one other at a scan with you, and max 2 birthing partners. But obvs no one who is unwell or with symptoms

Lucylou37 · 17/03/2020 10:00

Oh @Spark27 glad I'm not the only one! Mine is next Thursday! I haven't had massively strong symptoms, but I have had them so always panicking that there isn't anything there! Sending loads of good vibes to you for Thursday let us know how it goes xxxx

bluemoon2468 · 17/03/2020 10:15

@Lucylou37 I'm also in a flat with no garden 😔 I'll be leaving the house every day to go on a walk, but the only social contact I'll be having is with my husband. I won't be going into shops and won't be using any transport other than my own car. We're thinking of taking a few trips in the car at weekends to go for walks in the countryside to break up the monotony.

Lucylou37 · 17/03/2020 10:34

@bluemoon2468 that sounds a great plan and I will definitely be doing the same! Is your husband working? My boyfriend is not working from home, so worry about him bringing something back! I feel I've completely given in to the madness, I was completely relaxed about this last week and now I find myself worrying about it a lot more! Stay safe and well xxx
