Ah so pleased to hear @TunnocksTcake & @MissSparkles81 that all is ok. @MissSparkles81 - interesting that they took your temperature! Was there a reason they did that? I didn't have mine done at my scan on Monday, and had wondered if they would. Also good that they said you might get more spotting, so you're prepared and not too worried.

@Avocuddles I've got my maternity clothes from my first pregnancy, although its' not very much, I think I just rotated 3 outfits. Ha. I did get some cropped trousers from eBay a couple of weeks ago as I panicked that we'd be in lockdown and I wouldn't have any summer clothes to wear. I'm the same @sunstruck - my waist is thicker, I'm only 13 weeks. It just looks like that's my natural shape, or I've eaten too many puddings at the moment. I don't weigh myself, but my last pregnancy I put on just under 4 stone!! Not great. I'll try and be a bit more careful this time maybe. Can't wait to get into my maternity clothes though, they're so comfy!

Whiffle77 · 08/04/2020 14:38

Great news @MissSparkles81 really pleased for you! And good news about your positive consultant update @Knotemma
I feel huge already but I cannot stop eating!! Just hungry constantly! I haven't weighed myself since before I got pregnant last time so dont dare

Mimba1 · 08/04/2020 14:47

Thanks everyone for your messages yesterday - it really helped to know it's not just me obsessively compiling data. I've dug out my headspace app and will start using that again to do some mindfulness. It does help. I think going outside helps no end as well - so lucky I have a garden even if it is tiny!

@TunnocksTcake @MissSparkles81 such good news about your scans! I'm so pleased for both of you!

@MOGMOGMOG85 I think how you're feeling is completely normal. I'm a bit different in that I am still obsessively looking at data and it's completely ruined my focus on work but I feel almost detached from what I am doing. Last time I was having full on panic attacks and crying almost every day this time I have almost zero emotion for anything so in that I guess we're similar.

At 4+3 I had sore breasts and some cramping but it only started that day (and had gone by 5+1). I didn't test until 5+0 and honestly it felt like PMS at that point. Still does when I get any symptoms at all (6+5 now).

I don't know whether to try to get an early scan or not. I think I've already accepted that this is going to end in failure and DH says he doesn't believe I'm pregnant (he's seen the test but he said he needs to be strong enough to support me if it fails so doesn't want to get invested). So life goes on as normal and waiting it out in a numb state doesn't seem that bad compared to the rollercoaster I was on last time. Waiting between scans when something was wrong was the absolute worst - I'd rather just find out when I bleed. I think. Whatever approach everyone took, do you think you made the right decision with hindsight?

fmturn · 08/04/2020 15:22

@MissSparkles81 so glad everything worked out for you 😀😀😀. I was reading through your experience and it sounds similar to mine! Would you recommend the private scan? I started with brown/ligh pink bleeding Sunday and today it's gone like normal blood - praying it goes back brown - it's only when I wipe but I'm just freaking out. The dr has just said normal and not to panic but obviously hard not too! I'm 6+1 today and was going to wait until 7weeks for the scan but I'm just not sure I can now!

I have a window to the womb and ultrasound plus nearest me so I was looking at those.

MissSparkles81 · 08/04/2020 15:31

Thanks @tmc14 im not sure why I thought it was standard practice when attending a hospital appointment with this virus. Im glad that they did though coz I I genuinely feel fine. Gonna keep taking paracetamol every 4 hrs tho just incase.

@fmturn my scan today was at the epu at my local hospital but I would always recommend a private scan if you think it will help you feel a bit better. Its such a scary time just now so if you feel it would help then go. Ours is next friday at window to the womb so we are def keeping that appt plus they allow 1 guest at the scan so my bf can come in aswell.

fmturn · 08/04/2020 15:39

@Misssparkles81 oh ok, I can't get the contact details of my local EPU and my dr told me it's common and not to worry but that was before today's blood! Oh that is good I forgot the partners weren't allowed at the moment! Hope it all goes well from you here on out 😍

seaduck · 08/04/2020 16:19

Hi all, I disappeared for a while, but had my 12week scan yesterday and everything was perfect. Starting to feel a bit more human too!
Think I felt a little poke earlier too, may be way early but I started to feel my second baby around 13 weeks so hopeful it is them! The first I didn't feel anything until after 20 weeks so that's normal too.

Sorry if I've missed stuff, glad to see a couple of good scans today after bleeding. Such a relief!

Updating weeks.

Thanks for all the mindfulness recommendations, I was meaning to get some therapy before covid locked down our lives so I might concentrate on that and maybe try to self therapise/ journal if I can find some guides online. After losing 2 pregnancies and my dad in the space of 10 months I find myself noticing I am generally quite numb and a bit emotionless which I don't like. I used to cry at everything and I found I didn't cry about my dad until the funeral and haven't since, so definitely some walls up there. Anyway, sorry, life story over!

I didn't let myself test until 5 weeks this time as I had lost one at 5 weeks the month before and with the first pg I found the first few weeks so agonising I just thought I would rather not know! I found early scans to be essential, I couldn't stop myself panicking and fearing the worst every time I felt something unusual or my symptoms decreased. I had a lot of early ones! I have been very detached this pg, and quite matter of fact in a way- kept telling myself that if it doesn't work out at least we will get nhs fertility testing as it would have been my 3rd mc. Also told myself there was nothing that could be done if it were a mc and my body was just doing what it was supposed to. Distraction is definitely key if you can!

@Avocuddles I have got a couple of maternity bits, I panicked when lockdown happened that clothes shops would stop online shopping so also got some new look jeans (LOVE them!) I'm tall and they do long lengths although they are still a little cropped! I also got some leggings which are soooo comfy! Dh had kept a pair of maternity dungarees he had bought be the first time I was pg and finally have them to me at 12 weeks! I have quite a definite bump now which is pleasing and reassuring.

@MissSparkles81 so so glad all is ok with you too. How's the bleeding?

My spotting - I'm going to call it that now - has turned more orangey and has increased a tiny bit today but so has my cm so I think it's just mixed in with that. I went to do the food shop earlier and kept freaking out that I felt damp and couldn't knicker check! It stops and starts but overall lessening so hoping it is tailing off 🤞🏻🤞🏻

@TunnocksTcake I can certainly relate to your story having lost both pregnancies within the space of six months having taken over a year to conceive in the first place. I also had the attitude of 'well if it happens a third time at least I might get a bit more support'. I tested positive at 3 +3 and certainly wish I'd held off longer and it felt like it took forever to get through those early weeks. I was lucky enough to get nhs scans via the fertility clinic at 7 and 9 weeks which were very reassuring (although only temporarily....). My previous early (private) scan had the opposite effect because it left me in a terrified state of limbo for a week, but I guess it did make me feel prepared for when the worst did happen even though the sonographers had been adamant that it was all fine. You're right that in the vast majority of instances unfortunately there's nothing that could have been done to change the outcome, and in time I've come to view my previous pregnancies that way, not so much as potential babies that I never got to meet but as something that unfortunately was never meant to be.

Wore some of the maternity jeans today, they were perfect around the house but when I went for a walk I had to hold them up most of the time as they're clearly still far too big!

I hope that your spotting calms down soon, hopefully it is just normal cervical changes but any unusual mucus and that 'damp' sensation are always disconcerting. I don't think I'll ever stop being a knicker checker.

Hope you all managed to get some time in the glorious sunshine today. The highlight of my day was that I popped into the garden only to find three enormous frogs having what can only described as a (very noisy!) threesome in the middle of my pond!

Hi wondering if anyone can help? Don’t know if I’m posting on the right post as I’ve just signed up to this ....

I had a MC 20th March 2020 which is 3 weeks tomorrow I was 16+3 my baby had only measured 13 weeks. Had a natural miscarriage giving birth to a precious little boy, I bled for roughly a week and a half, and now I’m currently crippled with back pain and aching boobs! I never even had these symptoms when I was pregnant. I took a test last-night which is still saying positive, I’ve also had unprotected sex after the MC , could this me hormones from pregnancy or a new pregnancy? I’m so confused? Confused

Knotemma · 08/04/2020 20:45

@Olliesmum sorry to hear about your loss, that must have been a very difficult time for you. I doubt that there is enough time between your loss and now for you to be pregnant again, but I could be wrong. I believe it can take some time for your hormones to return to "normal" particularly after a later loss. It may be worth checking in with your gp about how long you can expect it to take for your HCG hormone levels to return to 0. I could obviously be completely wrong, I'm not a medical professional. Take care and everything crossed for a positive future for you

Mimba1 · 08/04/2020 21:53

@Avocuddles with you on the sunshine. It makes everything seem better. And wfh means actually being able to go out in it! Loving that you have amorous frogs. I feel like there's some kind of "frogs porn" joke in there somewhere...

MOGMOGMOG85 · 09/04/2020 06:02

Arg I just wrote a long reply to everyone who reassured me about feeling numb and then the page reloaded! Maybe the internet is trying to tell me not to waffle so much.

@DressingGown87 though that counsellor... wow. That is shocking!!!

Also was it @Knotemma where your doctor said you weren't having a miscarriage and then recorded it as a miscarriage??? Also - wow...

You guys are not helping my angry phase hahaha!

@MissSparkles81 I'm so pleased about your scan - such positive news from everyone on here!!!

Does anyone else get the feeling that you're going to be the one who has the bad news? I expect a lot of us feel like that though.

I woke up at 5 again feeling queasy and with a nose bleed - not morning sickness though, I suffer badly when pregnant with... umm... gas and constipation, the least glamorous of the symptoms!

@Avocuddles thank you for your words, having read everyones responses I feel a lot more normal in my numb/angry reaction! I'm hoping things change once I have a scan. I think I might be brave and book an 8 week scan. I know you guys will be here to help if it's the same as last time :(

I'm guessing we have to keep our dates and due dates updated, so I'll do that now. Does anyone mind if I correct where the due dates are not in chronological order? I thought I was being quite zen about checking statistics etc after reading everyone else comments, but it seems a non-chronological list has tipped me over the edge! I'm going to do it but please undo if I've done something wrong!

@MOGMOGMOG85 in this pregnancy I absolutely felt like it was going to be bad news (and still do in many ways, though not to quite the constant panic extent of the early weeks). During my second pregnancy my approach was 'well we were just unlucky last time, odds are it'll be fine this time', but after two losses I felt like another was inevitable even though the odds were still in our favour that it would be third time lucky. Gas was definitely my most predominant early pregnant symptom, far more so than nausea. The low down, crampy pains were disconcerting at times but then you break wind and realise that it's just your digestive system going crazy! Oh it's a joy being pregnant....

@Olliesmumx so sorry to hear about your loss. My losses were earlier than yours but it still took me a full three weeks to get a negative, if the line is very faint it could be that there are traces of hormone remaining. It's worth contacting your EPU / gp as the other thing it can indicate is retained products, ie a tiny bit of pregnancy tissue that might have got stuck inside you, if they suspect this they'd probably take you in for another scan to double check. Good luck....

@MOGMOGMOG85 Hi, just to echo others about feeling a bit numb. This week has actually been a bit tricky. I think I'd protected myself so much, that, now we've had a good 12 week scan, and told family who are excited, I find myself not as excited as others. I feel a bit like I'm trying to catch up on feeling anything! I think I will slowly start to feel excited, and hopefully after the 20 week scan, all being well I can start to believe this will be ok. But I actually do feel that I've now read too many heart breaking stories to be truly excited until I've got my baby home. Which is sad, but maybe ok. Hopefully I'll have glimmers of excitement and feeling good about it that I can enjoy. Sorry, that's a bit miserable! I don't mean it to be, I just think I'm now a different person to when I had my son. I wasn't completely naive then and was aware of my age and the risks, but was definitely more excited than this after the 12 week scan.

Anyway, after sounding miserable, I'll update my weeks and due date! Not sure i fully agree with the dating scan vs my dates, but I know that's what the medics will go with so I may as well go along with it!

@avocuddles LOVE that picture... saving that and sending to some friends I think!

@Avocuddles @MOGMOGMOG85 OMG the gas! Glad it's not just me. OH keeps asking what I'm eating. I don't fit in my jeans anymore and it's just gas! This is basically my only "symptom" and I keep wondering if it's just that I'm eating more veggies. I don't feel pregnant - I feel like I just ate Christmas dinner. Twice.

And yes, I absolutely feel like I'm going to be the one to get the bad news. Someone has to right? And we all know it can be us. Every time someone gets good news I get this thought pattern of "oh I'm so pleased for them what a relief, that's so reassuring as well that it can work out, oh but that means it's more likely to be me..." Makes no sense. No-one else's experience had any impact on mine - we could all be absolutely fine.

My MC started at 7w + 6D which is next Thursday. Now it's only a week away I'm starting to feel on edge. Completely irrational but it feels like such an important date.

@Olliesmumx I'm so sorry for your loss and so recently as well. I hope you're doing OK and have some support? I echo what avocuddles said, speak to your GP or EPU. It sounds a little early but you're better off speaking to the experts.

Hello ladies, can I join please? I have spent the last couple of days reading this entire thread and so I have been following your stories. Congratulations to those of you that recently had positive scans after spotting, I was rooting for you.

@Olliesmumx I'm sorry for your loss, so difficult. I hope you get help from someone who can give you a definitive answer

I'm nearly 36 and I've just been diagnosed (borderline) hypothyroid. Last May I had a MMC at 11w, baby had stopped growing at 8w. Then in September I had an early mc/ ectopic pregnancy with a persistent mass that didn't reabsorb. I am 10w pregnant today going by ovulation. I had an early scan at 5w4d to rule out another ectopic and although I was given a 7w scan I reluctantly cancelled it to avoid the hospital. Annoyingly my entire family and my partner's entire family knows I'm pregnant through well-meaning people telling everyone, it's a complicated story but I can't really be angry as they had the best intentions, but it makes me really dread another miscarriage and having to deal with everyone knowing.

I've had dreadful sickness and exhaustion which I didn't have with my MMC so it's been strangely reassuring. It's been so bad that the lockdown has been a blessing because I wouldn't have been able to go to work if I had to. However now my symptoms are easing up so I am worrying more even though I know symptoms don't have to mean anything. I am on edge about my hypothyroidism because I don't have a consultant overseeing my care yet and I'm not convinced any of the midwifes understand it, I've had to tell them when I need my bloods re-done and my medication reviewed.

I'll have my NT/dating scan on 27th April at 12w4d and am counting the days, half dreading it. I feel like nobody who hasn't experienced a loss can really grasp how uncertain this is, they feel like it'll be fine because they don't understand how real the possibility is that it won't. Anyway that is my mememe rant. Hope you are all getting to enjoy some sunshine and managing to stay sane.

@Mimba1 I have the exact same feeling as you. I keep thinking I will be the one that will get bad news. I have played it out so many times in my head - being told at the scan, then telling the few people that know I'm pregnant. At no point have I visualised a positive version of this story in my head - ie scan going well and being able to tell people that. I know it sounds horribly negative, but I think it's almost a self preservation thing.

@Doughnut100 - I'm close to you in dates (due 7 Nov), and had a MMC on last pregnancy. I struggled a lot with MS lat week (though not as bad as some on here, I was getting sick maybe once or twice a day). This seems to have eased off massively in last 24 hours, so I am also fighting the urge to dwell negatively on this. Everything I have read said symptoms can come and go and having strong MS isnt always an indicator things are going well either. But we will analyse every single thing at this stage, won't we?

I still haven't had confirmation of when my 12 week scan will be. I received appointment letters for the 18 and 24 week scans, and not the 12 week one. Had my booking in appt on the 30th. I think knowing the date might help, as it would give me somethign to focus on and count down toward. I have been back and forth debating another private scan (had one at 7+5 and all was fine). But I've decided to try hold out , as I know private scan may not be the best place to handle delivering bad news, but also with the CV situation, it's probably best not to put myself at risk unnecessarily (as I've not had any pain or bleeding so there's no real reason for me to go for more reassurance at this stage).

On a more positive note - with it being a nice sunny easter weekend, I have picked up a range of various alcohol free wine, prosecco and ciders, so am looking forward to sampling those and treating myself a little. Smile

@Doughnut100 I don't feel I've been a member long enough to properly welcome you but I can say I've found this group so helpful. Everyone has had different experiences to share and understands what it's like not to be all sunshine and rainbows through the whole thing and is really rooting for each other.

I don't know much about hypothyroidism. Not great that you have to be advising the midwives on your care but good that you are advocating for yourself. It's pants that you have to worry about that as well though. I'm 36 already (isolation birthday last week!) and this will (hopefully) be my first baby after probably about 3 years TTC. It's easy to get freaked out by all the "over 35" stats. I had a quick read of an over 40 thread yesterday which really calmed me down - there were so many success stories on there.

@AnxiousLady1 I don't really see it as negative, like you say it's preservation. Everyone told me I was silly to worry last time so I deliberately did positive future visioning and it just made it so much worse! I'm playing it safe this time and can't say I blame you!

Alcohol free drinks - what a good idea! We have some alcohol free gin in the kitchen we got for free. I assume we're allowed tonic and a bit of lime. That sounds lovely in the sunshine!
