@bluebell94 - I had an early scan with my first baby (Around 5.5 weeks) which we lost. Wish I hadn’t as it was way behind on dates and I KNEW not all was well even though we saw a heartbeat. Turned out was right and had a MMC at 9.5 weeks.

With second baby (he’s now 18 months) we ended up having a scan at 8 weeks because had awful sharp pains (which turned out to be wind!)

Now 6 weeks with number 2 and am going to go for one at 8 weeks because we are getting Iona test at 10 weeks and I don’t want to waste the cash if it’s not viable. Also, at 8 weeks you can see a lot more. At 5-6 weeks it’s really just a sac with a heartbeat.

So my advice would be 8 weeks is a good time for an early scan x

With my first I had a reassurance scan at 8+4 and that was about perfect. He looked like a little ducky and saw a clear heartbeat etc.

I'm not having one this time, I'm weirdly more relaxed about it all. But then I was incredibly broody with DS, now with my 2nd I am excited but not got the same need to be a mum since I already am!

My first baby shopping arrived today, a set of 3 little mamas and papas Christmas sleepsuits bought in the sale. All going well baby should be a month and a half at Christmas! I didn't buy anything until after 12wks last time but couldn't resist!

JJxo · 14/03/2020 11:28

Hi all, 6+1 weeks today and the sickness has well and truly arrived which I suppose is a good sign. I’m getting all chewed up on the back of our inconclusive scan which I know is probably because it was too early to hear heartbeat. Does anyone know if at 5+5 weeks scan it’s normal to see gestational sac and yolk sac but no heartbeat yet?

HarrietM87 · 14/03/2020 11:30

Yes @JJxo you wouldn’t expect to see a heartbeat before 6 weeks at the very earliest so don’t worry!

JJxo · 14/03/2020 11:40

Thank you @HarrietM87 next scan in 11 days so will be 7+5. The wait is so long!

SMcG1 · 14/03/2020 12:22

My booking in appointment isn’t until I’m 9+5 which seems really late to me but I’m not sure. How far along are you usually for this appointment?

ParisInTheSpringtime · 14/03/2020 12:35

@SMcG1 I'll be 10 weeks as I couldn't fit it in sooner.

SMcG1 · 14/03/2020 12:39

I thought they had to do certain tests that had to be done before 10 weeks to be accurate?

Ginntoniconpause · 14/03/2020 12:43

I think its between 8 and 10 weeks. Mine is when I'm 9+1

FlashesOfRage · 14/03/2020 12:50

Just wanted to say thank you all for your very kind words xxx

Most symptoms definitely come in waves. I might have 3 days of boob pains then four days without before it comes back again! X

Oldermum80 · 14/03/2020 12:50

@JJxo with my daughter I bled and so I had an early scan around 5 weeks and there was no heartbeat, so I had to go back the following week and there was. Longest wait ever!

Beesly · 14/03/2020 15:05

Saw a heartbeat today at 6+1!! I know it’s early and things could still go wrong but I’m relieved for now Smile

Whoamieven · 14/03/2020 16:21

@Beesly yey that's great news! I want a scan but can't justify the £109 cost so think we're just gonna have to wait it out ☹️

ParisInTheSpringtime · 14/03/2020 17:30

@SMcG1 I didn’t know there were tests pre 10 weeks.

twigletpiglet17 · 14/03/2020 17:59

Can I join? I only found out yesterday! Due on 11 Nov from what I can work out, I'm 5+3. We were 'sort of' trying and didn't expect it to happen so quickly. It doesn't feel real and I'm anxious and excited. It'll be great to share the journey with you all, especially while I can't tell anyone!

SMcG1 · 14/03/2020 18:08

According to the nhs website they screen for sickle cell disease and thalassaemia before ten weeks.

Beesly · 14/03/2020 18:17

@Whoamieven we paid about £43! Have you shopped around different places?

Anon87 · 14/03/2020 19:17

My 8-10 week appointment will be when I'm 10+5 ☹️

Elley2912 · 14/03/2020 20:23

I'm not getting my first appointment until I'm 12+4 isn't that so late?!

itsmeoverhere · 14/03/2020 20:38

Can I join please? Due in early November

Ginntoniconpause · 14/03/2020 21:08

Is this for your booking appointment or scan?

Anon87 · 14/03/2020 21:08

@Elley2912 Are you having a scan then too?

Whoamieven · 14/03/2020 21:20

@Beesly there is only one place where I live, otherwise I have to travel over an hour and that doesn't really work for us:/

Elley2912 · 14/03/2020 21:23

@Ginntoniconpause @Anon87 booking appointment and scan

Hi all, hope I can join in. I had my BFP this morning! We have only been trying since Christmas when I came off the pill after being on it for about 10 years. I was not expecting to conceive this quickly!! This will be our first and I feel a mixture of excitement, fear, nervous etc. If my calculations are correct I think due date will be around 22nd November. Haven’t told my OH yet, being our first I want to do something nice for him to tell him, does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks all
