@GoodShipSerenity how's things progressing?

I've got baby's room cleared of junk as it was the spare room just need to paint the walls etc

crazycatbaby · 18/01/2020 18:00

I'm due to have an elcs with my second in just under 4 weeks. I feel very underprepared 🙈i have been through all old baby stuff, been given lots of girls stuff which is ready to go. But all equipment (bouncer/crib/pram carrycot etc) is at mother in law's house, I haven't packed a bag Blushhelpppppp! 😂

GoodShipSerenity · 18/01/2020 18:03

@tinatsarina Pessary is in so just a matter of waiting now. Silver lining is I get some time to myself while waiting.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 18/01/2020 19:03

After reading this I feel completely unprepared Confused.
I'm due on 22nd feb and although we have the furniture up, we don't have anything washed or ready to go. I haven't even contemplated packing my bag yet and haven't tested anything we've bought.

I've been so busy with work that I haven't had chance to do anything. Once I finish, I'll be in a mad rush to get everything done. It's my first so I have no idea what to expect.

45andfine · 19/01/2020 09:11

@goodshipserenity good luck! X

tinatsarina · 19/01/2020 12:28

My mum brought round a steam cleaner so I've been busy steaming all the rooms in the house and paying extra attention to baby's room.

CupCupGoose · 19/01/2020 14:34

@goodshipserenity I hope all is well. Maybe we will have our first thread baby by now!

I'm glad I'm not the Only one who's going to miss work! I've started my hospital bag finally. I brought myself some new pyjamas to wear after the birth. Very sad, but I don't think you can beat a fresh pair of pj's! Babys first outfit has been chosen by my 8 year old dd. I've got maternity pads and breast pads, nappies.... I can't remember what else I need. Need to Google some lists.

GoodShipSerenity · 19/01/2020 15:39

@45andfine and @CupCupGoose thank you. No baby as of yet but things are going in the right direction. I was checked recently and baby is all the way down and I am 1cm, so waters were broken just before 3pm. No going back now!

CupCupGoose · 19/01/2020 18:17

How exciting! Keep us updated!

tinatsarina · 19/01/2020 18:48

Oooo @GoodShipSerenity I'm so excited for you please keep us updated if you can. Do you know if your having a boy or a girl? Any names picked out already?

GoodShipSerenity · 21/01/2020 00:40

DS2 was born this evening at 19:35 after rupture of membranes yesterday at 15:00, syntocin drip from 10pm and contractions pretty much every couple of minutes until birth. Baby was born very quickly in the end after a contraction turned into pushing. Baby is currently in, NICU with a breathing tube and hooked up to monitors as he was struggling after birth

CupCupGoose · 21/01/2020 07:05

Congratulations! How are you feeling? Do you have an idea of how long he will be in NICU? Hopefully not too long.

45andfine · 21/01/2020 07:23

Oh❤️ @goodshipserenity hope you're both well. Thinking of you x

tinatsarina · 21/01/2020 08:18

Congratulations @GoodShipSerenity hopefully he won't be in NICU very long

GoodShipSerenity · 21/01/2020 13:50

Thank you@CupCupGoose @45andfine and @tinatsarina.

We didn't know what sex to be expecting before DS2 arrived so it was a nice surprise. After DH met baby this morning we have decided to call him Noah.

There is a possibility that the tube can be removed this afternoon if Noah's breathing settles and oxygen requirements go down, he is also on 2 types of IV antibiotics for an infection. Once these bits start to resolve I'm hoping he can leave NICU and join me.
I go from feeling overwhelmed at the last 24 hours and hearing babies around me while not being able to hold mine, to hopeful that this won't have a long term effect on him. I've attached a couple of pictures.

tinatsarina · 21/01/2020 16:53

Oh he looks so sweet!! I'm sure it must be hard being away from him at times but I'm sure it won't be for long. When was your due date? Noah is a lovely name, my 5 year old suggested it for ours if it's a boy

pinksquash13 · 21/01/2020 16:58

Congratulations @GoodShipSerenity! Baby Noah is beautiful and I love the name!

I'm due 13th Feb with my first.
Nursery is ready, clothes have been washed, I've got lots of nappies, wipes etc. Feeling as prepared for breastfeeding as you can be. Pram is ready.

I haven't finished packing hospital bag but it's getting there. How many baby outfits do you need? How many sets of breast pads? We haven't fitted car seat or put up next to me crib. Hopefully this weekend.

I had 36 week scan last week and they said baby is 6lb 5oz which apparently was just above average. Feeling excited and nervous.

Mol5 · 21/01/2020 17:07

Congratulations @GoodShipSerenity!! Noah is gorgeous! Well done you!

Sorry for the delay @emmyloucuddles - you asked a couple of days ago about my large growth check.
I got referred for a growth check because my bump measured 95th, 98th, then 100th centile, over 3 measurements so they wanted to check size/vs excess fluids.
I had the growth scan at 34+0 where baby was already measuring 6.8lb (there was no excess fluid).
That puts them on track to be 11lb full term, so they'll review size and/or consider induction from 39 weeks.

I'm praying baby comes by themselves beforehand!!

Mol5 · 21/01/2020 17:13

Hey @pinksquash13!
I've packed 3 x outfits, 1 x box of breast pads, and 2 x packs of maternity pads.
I'm not expecting any preemptive complications so figured this is enough for 1 day in hospital post-birth and if I need more stuff i'll send DH home to get extra supplies I guess!
I figured if I ended up staying in overnight he wont be able to stay overnight with me anyway so it's easy for him to get things from home and bring back the next day.

45andfine · 22/01/2020 08:03

@goodshipserenity Noah looks so cute, but must be so hard not having him with you. Fingers crossed he'll be better today. Are you able to stay in hospital with him, or will they discharge you?

GoodShipSerenity · 22/01/2020 11:09

Thank you all again for your comments, this thread is keeping me going at the moment but I don't want to make it all about me and my woes. My emotions are all over the place today as my milk is coming in, I'm hand expressing into syringes so that it's there when he can have something.

My due date was 8th February but I was induced at 37 +0 due to small baby and start of high blood pressure. Noah is looking more unwell today and is now on a couple of medicines to help his blood pressure and for agitation, as he was becoming very distressed at the tube and has a line going into his umbilical stump. Its very much a watch and see approach at the moment

45andfine · 22/01/2020 12:22

Oh Noah❤️. Thinking of you. Are you allowed to cuddle him? I can't imagine how hard it must be for you both. Emotions not just due to milk, you really have been through turmoil. Will they give your milk to Noah soon? Must be hard work expressing, but so valuable to tiny tummies. Don't forget to look after yourself too, Noah will need you so much xx

GoodShipSerenity · 22/01/2020 14:03

@45andfine we are not allowed to cuddle Noah just yet but are allowed to put our hand in the incubator and touch him. Still NBM and hasn't actually had a feed of any kind yet but is being sustained by a glucose drip. My expressed colostrum is starting to be used to provide mouth care. I've not actually managed to be present for a ward round about myself yet so have little idea what is happening with my care, I seem to be using the ward as a base and returning for obs and medication. Thankfully the post natal ward are letting me get on with it at the moment.

VDM1420 · 22/01/2020 16:20

I'm due 2nd of feb and today is my 4th day of maternity leave. I'm bored as hell and literally only need baby as everything else is done.

CupCupGoose · 22/01/2020 18:07

Goodship, noah is gorgeous, I hope you get a cuddle soon. Is he your first? Please keep us updated on how he's doing.

Absolutely knackered after work today. Just a week and a half left now. I washed some baby clothes today. Its a start at least!
