Don't hold back - would love to know what connotations, both good and bad the name gives people.

Thanks!

And he is gorgeous

pirategirl · 21/08/2007 10:48

i love that name and would choose it if i ever had a son.x

Piffle · 21/08/2007 10:49

brideshead revisited
lush name

mazzystar · 21/08/2007 10:50

posh but cool

flumpybumpy · 21/08/2007 10:55

My Godson is Sebastian and at first I was a bit surprised as it sounded a bit poncey. But, the name suits perfectly and I really like it now.

FrogPrincess · 21/08/2007 11:05

lovely name
dd has a 'cello friend' called Sebastian who's half french like her, it really suits him, don't think he gets called Seb yet

kerala · 21/08/2007 11:10

Its a nice name, my friend's sister has just called her little boy it.

However - and you did ask for connotations - but to me Sebastians are gay.

TaLcApOnE · 21/08/2007 11:11

oi likes it

LaBoheme · 21/08/2007 11:11

I love it - it does, to me, have Gay connotaions from various films and literature but that is not a negative and would have loved to call my child Sebastian if I had had a boy x

TaLcApOnE · 21/08/2007 11:12

reminds me of the cockney rebel song...which is fab too

Hurlyburly · 21/08/2007 11:17

I love it.

Connotations? It's a french name so I think of lovely slim trendy men puffing away on Gitanes. I also think of big cuddly teddy bear men with curly hair and arran jumpers. Bit of an odd mix but both are good.

saffymum · 21/08/2007 11:19

ooh I used to work with a scrummy Sebastian as well. Sadly I've liked the name so much I named my cat Sebastian so now I can't name my next child Sebastian.

Stargazing · 21/08/2007 14:39

honestly honestly love it

FlameBatfink · 21/08/2007 14:51

Love it

mieowcat · 21/08/2007 19:41

Hiya,
love the name, its our 2nd boys name choice but im thinking its my 1st choice now!

Soberandsad · 21/08/2007 19:58

I loved it so much I was going to call my DS it until my friends put me off. They kept on telling me it would be just his luck to have a stutter and not be able to say his own name!

So as long as you don't have close rellies with stutters go for it.

handlemecarefully · 21/08/2007 20:02

I think it is 'aspirational'

  • trying to be upper middle class (apols to anyone liable to be offended - just giving honest response)
soapbox · 21/08/2007 21:00

HMC surely it would only be aspirational if one is not already upper middle class

I'm not terribly keen on Sebastian itself but do rather like the shortened form Seb. Having said that if I was going for that I would choose Seth instead.

Heated · 21/08/2007 21:09

Love it! Twin to Viola in Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night'. I imagine a child with this name to be polite and have brains!

potoroo · 21/08/2007 21:11

Love it. But it is also the name of one of the first boys I had a crush on ;) so I am a bit biased...

KristinaM · 21/08/2007 21:14

sorry i think its really wet

MamaMaiasaura · 21/08/2007 21:38

one of our name choices for this one

AttilaTheMum · 21/08/2007 21:40

We once had a gander called Sebastian, who was a total wimp, completely goose-pecked by his two wives, so that kind of colours my ideas about the name.

If I could forget the gander, I think I'd quite like it...

emkana · 21/08/2007 21:42

lol at the gander

I think we should close this thread now, don't want to read any more negative opinions about the name

(I mean come ON! Look at my profile! How can the name that adorns this ADORABLE boy be anything other than lovely???)

Pinkchampagne · 21/08/2007 21:44

Your little sebastian is sooo beautiful, emkana!
