MASSIVE BLOOD LOSS @ 13 Weeks Pregnant...PLEASE HELP

Have had massive blood loss 4 days ago at 13 weeks pregnant, had a scan and baby is alive and seems to be well.
The blood loss slowed down to something like a heavy period after the initial massive loss, and am now either spotting, losng a bit more like a period again, or it stops temporarily before resuming again.
Am absolutely petrified as lost a baby due to miscarriage at 6 weeks last August.
Can anybody tell me what might have caused this bleeding and what the outcome is likely to be.
Also is there anything i can do to prevent further damage?

I have no personal experience of this, but certain people I know have had bleeding during pregnancy with no adverse effect to the baby. They did have to lie down though! Are you doing too much? I presume if you have been checked out and there's no problem they've given you guidance about resting, but that's my only advice really. And don't panic!

Hi, I had a massive bleed at 10 weeks with ds, I was scanned and they saw the heartbeat and I went on to have a normal pregnancy, they couldn't explain the bleed but my theory is that I lost a twin
Put your feet up and rest if you can

i bled from 5w-21w with ds, sometimes really heavy but i ended up on complete bedrest. have you had sex recently? could be cervical erosions

No have not had sex recently, in fact have been warned to abstain due to the bleeding.

It's so frightening thought isn't it.

Blood was gushing out of me, a bit like the 'explosion' sensation when the waters go.

My trousers were covered right down to the hemline, and also the carpet was blood stained, all from 3 or 4 mega-gushes.
I know people tell you not to panic, but to be honest I was hysterical, so scary.

Was just wondering if its possible to carry this baby to term?

I am trying to rest as much as possible but with 6 children aged between 17 months and 6.5 years that is not at all easy.

get to dr or casualty and check it out just incase but I had very heavy bleed in early pregnancy too and went on to be fine

RQ - I had ds at 33 weeks due to my placenta giving up - which is one of the reasons I think I started off carrying twins as losing one may have damaged the placenta causing it to stop working.
My bleed was like you said gushing out (I was stood in a shop at the time)
DS is now coming up to be 6 and other than being small for his age (he weighed 2lb 15oz) you wouldn't know he was early

Great to hear successful stories from those of you who've been in the same boat, it just gives one a ray of hope, doesn't it.

OMG I would have died of embarrassment had it happened to me in a shop, thankfully I was at home.

I had just sat down after moving furniture around though, and also been stretching a bit as was unable to get picture off the wall, silly I now, but up to then all seemed well.

Have been to hospital Chocolate, actually rushed in by ambulance on Monday, flat on my back on a stretcher.
Was discharged as blood loss lessened to heavy period like loss later same evening.

Drs could not say what caused bleeding but sonographer thought the placenta was too close to the cervix, but was unable to say for certain as scan was unplanned and so bladder was empty making it difficult to 'see' what was going on. Baby's heartbeat could clearly be seen though, much to our relief.

can you call them and ask for another scan, to check the position of the placenta?

i had a big bleed at 12 weeks with older child - now 6 - she ended up being 6 weeks early. premature rupture of membranes 8 weeks early. after talking to lots of the other women on the ward with me, we all told a similar story.
but, before you run screaming into the sunset, the babies all turned out fine and have gone on to be healthy, bright and beautiful.
good luck - rest, eat, sleep, forget the housework and let someone else help you with the kids.

I am actually trying to get hold of community midwife, hoping that she might be able to phone hospital for another 'more detailed' scan for me.
If only I'd thought of drinking the pint of water 'just in case' tbh it never occured to me that they would scan me that day as it was meant to be booked for following day!
I will have to get hold of midwife anyway as my blood pressure was sky high, and it needs to be checked to make sure its settled down, or to help sort it out!

Doctor tried to reassure me that its unlikely that anything I did (or didn't do) might have caused the bleeding.
I'm not convinced though, as all was ok, not even a spot of blood prior to me moving furniture around.
Feel so guilty.

look, these things do happen. with ds i climbed onto the roof at work at 17w pg during torrential rain because the drainpipe was blocked. deep breath. demand another scan. they need to know where the placenta is (does sound like it might be low)

lissie, i'm actually on the island of Anglesey in North Wales.
We have no family or friends nearby who could help us, we are looking for a cleaner we could employ so that the housework would be one less thing to worry about.
Also somebody who could take the kids out or at least entertain them for us, to allow us a bit of peace and quiet just to get things in perspective.
So far no luck though, so will have to keep trying and hope somebody comes along soon.

dh is actually home due to accident at work - he was self employed builder at the time and fell off roof of house and landed on his feet...so irreperable damage to spine, he can walk thankfully and get about quite well considering, but having to do 'everything' since my blood loss on Monday is all getting too much for him.
So far so good, he's lucky not to be in a wheelchair, but at this rate I doubt if that day is too far off either.
So we really need somebody to come in and help us iyswim.

Blood loss has stopped now, but quite concerned as early this morning passed something a bit like a 'clot' of dark brown 'old' blood.

Was told by hospital that passing clots is a bad sign, but not sure if that's just bright red 'fresh' blood, or does it apply to 'old' dark brown blood as well?

Does anybody have any experience of this, omg if its not one thing its another isn't it
