Morning all! I ended up going home early on Friday 'cos I started to feel really bad and had a temperature of 101° by the time I got there. Baby had been quiet for the previous couple of days so I hied myself off to the antenatal clinic where they did a cardiogram thing. The baby's hb was varying between 150 and 184 bpm, but they said it was okay. That took 45 minutes, then a 4 hour wait (with dh) to be seen by the doctor who said I probably had a UTI and prescribed me some vicious AB's. I haven't been able to eat or drink properly since Thursday lunch, but am feeling much better today, although massively dehydrated still. I think I spent about 3 hours OUT of bed on Saturday!!! Dh had a massive nesting session as well, whilst I was passed out...

Good news is that my cervix is closed and firm so nothing happening here that imminently. Should have time to recover from this infection, finish work - on Wednesday!! - and rest up a bit before labour kicks off. So my betting now is that bubba will come around 1 October and not before...

I have a copy of MrsMcJnr's poem saved away somewhere - the one about trying again, do you mean? I will find it and post it and then (eventually) come back and read through the thread properly....

spugs · 10/09/2007 09:47

emmsy - im sorry to hear that, have you rang your epau to see if you can get a scan?

fettle - wow cant belive your 37 weeks, bet its going to fly by. good luck with your drs appointments.

ginger - my boobs and sickness started dying down round about 10 wks (though the ms reared its ugly head a bit this am!) i dont feel quite as knackered either which is nice.

gross question but is it normal to get the 'runs' when your pregnant? ive had a bit of a dodgy tummy this past couple of days and keep worrying its down to my cats!! i always wash my hands after changing the litter but there only babies and drag the contents of there litter box out on to the floor and get it on there feet etc (so gross)

still no scan, 13 weeks on wed so going to ring if no appointment by then.

hope everyones feeling fab x

Glimmer · 10/09/2007 10:20

Good morning and welcome to the newcomers.

Feedmenow -- thinking of you, I am sure everything will be all right.

Fettle -- so sorry for your worries and a big congrats to your full term! Let us know how the tests go and what you will decide in the end.
A risk of increased stillbirth is the last we want to hear, but being induced at 37 weeks might not be pleasant either. Do they now why the risk of stillbirth increases and could they monitor that bit? Hope, it was a blin and today all value are normal... Sorry, I do not know more about this...

Mumpbump oh, no, an exhausting UTI with fever is the last thing you wanr right now! Hope the AB's help quickly and you can make a full recovery before labor starts! Uki got sick a few weeks before she delivered, too maybe that's a common thing (I mean immune system going down or so???

I am doing well, but tired. Had to take off wedding ring, since my fingers are thicker than usual. Well, I guess it's pretty obvious right now, that I am taken...

A toast with Kir Royal to the Grand Dames and may the next weeks be safe and relaxing!

And many thoughts to the newbies and first-trimester ladies!

Mumpbump · 10/09/2007 10:43

Hello again! Here is MrsMcJnr's poem for whoever asked for it - sorry - pg and sleep deprivation has killed off the final brain cells...

A Different Child

A different child,
People notice
There?s a special glow around you,
You grow
Surrounded by love,
Never doubting you are wanted;
Only look at the pride and joy
In your mother and father?s eyes.

And if sometimes
Between the smiles
There?s a trace of tears,
One day
You?ll understand
You?ll understand
There was once another child
A different child
Who was in their hopes and dreams.
That child will never outgrow the baby clothes
That child will never keep them up at night
In fact, that child will never be any trouble at all.
Except sometimes, in a silent moment.
When mother and father miss so much
That different child.
May hope and love wrap you warmly
Any may you learn the lesson forever
How infinitely precious
How infinitely fragile
Is this life on earth.
One day, as a young man or woman
You may see another mother?s tears
Another father?s silent grief
The you, and you alone
Will understand
And offer the greatest comfort.
When all hope seems lost,
You will tell them
With great compassion,
?I know how you feel.
I?m only here
Because my mother tried again
.?

gingercat12 · 10/09/2007 10:57

This is very beautiful.

MerlinsBeard · 10/09/2007 11:14

Mumpbump and MrsMcJnr...I am sobing at that poem so beautiful

Emmsy...how are you today?

MrsMcJnr...not seen you fot a few days, how are things with you?

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 11:25

Feedmenow - good luck for scan today!
Fettle - good luck for your appointment today too - hope it goes well.
Ellie, pessaries are safe to use in pg (just have to make sure you don't put them in too high) as are creams. Its worth seeing your doctor if it doesn't clear up though, I had it terribly at the beginning of this pg, pessary didn't work and I ended up being prescribed a 2 week course of a lovely internal cream - not pleasant but it worked!
Emmsy, I do hope its not, thinking of you - keep us updated.
Mumpbump, what a terrible weekend you had, hope those ABs kick in soon and you manage to get some rest before baby arrives. That poem gets me every time, its so bittersweet.
Spugs, I think it is quite normal for your guts to misbehave in many ways while pg! I seem to swing between the two extremes . Its probably not to do with your kitties but perhaps invest in some disposable gloves to use while changing the litter? Thats what I do and then give my hands a good scrub afterwards, I remember those baby days with mine - I was forever washing the floor (and baby wipes were great for their little feet...)! Can't believe you don't have your scan date through yet! I would definitely chase it up!
Hi to Ejt, MOM, Bouncing, Gingercat and Glimmer! Hope you and everyone else are all okay today.

MerlinsBeard · 10/09/2007 11:49

thinking about it spugs i wouldring today about your appt. it could be that your card is lost in the post and its this week! I would have thought we would have them close together seeing as we obviously BD'd on the same night

Mumpbump · 10/09/2007 12:13

Hello to the newcomers and congratulations. In particular, how are you doing today, Emmsy?

Fettle - hope that your morning is going okay, that it is not OC or CO or whatever it is (!) and that the lo is well...

Beckle - increased blood supply to your bits is definitely a feature of pg. It made sex really good last time, but we have both been too worried after the m/c to take advantage of my "enhanced" state this time around...

Glimmer - sorry to hear that you have had to take your rings off - it can make you feel quite "naked" if you're used to wearing them. I suspect it may be a while until you get to put them on again... I had a beautiful engagement ring (lost earlier this year!) which had a square cut stone. The first time I wore it, a huge scratch appeared on ds' chubby little thigh so after that, it only came out for special child-free nights out... I don't think babies and rings are terribly compatible all in all!

MOM and Feedmenow - good luck to both of you with your scans this week. Hoping to hear positive news from you shortly, feedmenow.

Cazzybabs - long, long time no "see" and you're in the third trimester already! Time just seems to go faster and faster...

Hello to Rubles, MrsMcJnr - where are you two? - and everyone else! Brain-dead today so can't remember who else said what! Must get more organised about posting...

fettleandminifettle · 10/09/2007 12:22

Oh Mumpbump - that doesn't sound good. Glad you are feeling better now though. You take good care of yourself - do you really have to go back to work this week?

No more news on my front - they took more bloods. If they rise significantly, I've been warned I may be admitted tomorrow. Either way, unless they are back to normal, I'll have an internal tomorrow to see how favourable my cervix is and then discuss a date for induction in the next few days. Just wish I knew what was going on - such an unsettling feeling that I might or might not have this condition. Just have to occupy myself this afternoon with DD and keep thinking Healthy & Well!

Glimmer - they don't really know what causes distress to the baby, as they are only just really starting to become more aware of the condition. Thankfully my bile acids are normal and I think they are the main worry to the baby.

Hope all these scans come through and are positive - let us know as soon as possible!

speak soon
xxx

Mumpbump · 10/09/2007 12:31

Fettle - I know how you feel. With ds, I didn't mind the fact I had no idea when he was going to turn up, but with the recent scare, I feel quite unnerved and want things to be "sorted" asap. Mind you, I have never been renowned for my patience!! Hope that things are okay tomorrow and you can simply wait for the lo to put in an appearance in its own good time...

Mumpbump · 10/09/2007 12:34

Forgot to answer your question - I am only working until Wednesday and may finish today, depending on what they say when I ring for the blood test results this afternoon. No way am I jeopardising this pg for anything at this stage of the game!!!

When I was sitting on the train to go home on Friday, winding myself up about the fact I hadn't felt the baby move much, there were two cleaners who were discussing (in French) the fact that a woman who had just had a m/c in the toilet at London Bridge and legged it. I think 'cos I was in tears, they thought it might have been me. I doubt they expected me to understand what they were saying, but it really was the LAST thing I needed to hear and brought all my worries to the front of my mind... Bluddi timing, hey?

So, work will get dropped like a hot potato at the slightest suggestion that I should be at home in bed resting...

Emmsy · 10/09/2007 12:46

Hello girls,
I thought the bleeding had stopped this morning as my pad was dry when I woke up, but a soon as I went to the loo I passed quite alot, and a fairly big clot!
I phoned the EPU and was told I must go to my GP to be referred! My GP managed to get me an appointment tomorrow at 10.00am (Tuesday)for a vaginal scan! I had one of those years ago when I had a bighted ovum!
I am pretty sure I have miscarried, I am still dripping like a tap off and on, but will still go along for scan incase I need a ERPC, I didn't have one when I miscarried on 30th April as I didn't go to the hosp last time, I may as well do things properly this time. Thanks for your thoughts, I will let you know the outcome tomorrow when I'm home from the hosp. (I'm not holding my breath for any miracles!)

Bouncingturtle · 10/09/2007 12:47

Spugs - don't bother with the gloves - it's your dp's job to change cat litter .
BTW you are more at risk from picking up bugs from poor kitchen hygiene than from your kitties. Remember to always make sure that you do not prepare cooked and raw meat on the same surface, and that you cook all meat throughly.
I've had a touch of both too, if it persists you'll probably need to get checked out by your gp, especially if you have a temp too.

The poem is so beautiful, I will defintely save a copy this time,

fettleandminifettle · 10/09/2007 13:18

Emmsy - sorry to hear you're still bleeding. Big hugs. There are plenty of stories from people who say they bled lots early on in pregnancy and it was still ok. How was your temp this morning?

Mump - so glad you're giving up work - was worrying about you working so close to your due date. My maternity leave hasn't been that relaxing, as any free time I have without DD has been spent at check-ups at the hospital, but better safe than sorry! I know what you mean, having got this far with our pregnancies - the thought of sometime going wrong now, is just horrifying! i know I really don't have anything to worry about, as at least I'm under observation, but you can't help worrying, can you?

anyway, off for a cuddle with my DD, in the hope she'll drop off as i could do with a kip! Was awake a lot last night thinking!

BTW - apparently your digestive system can go either way when pg - constipation is the more common way, but I've always gone the other way! Not very nice, but totally normal - as long as you are feeling well, don'et have a temp and it isn't watery (ie as long as you don't have an infection!!). Get DH to change cats litter though! Best to be on the safe side I would say!!

take care all
xxx

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 13:42

Emmsy and {{{hugs}}}, hope you are as okay as you can be. Some people do lose clots and blood and baby is still fine so hope you get some good news tomorrow at your scan.

I have to say I am still a little worried about my bits because they really are very swollen but when I am lying down they seem normal - its like they kind of fill up when I stand up IYKWIM? Pelvic floor is not too bad but am worrying it is not strong enough to hold everything in! Hoping to speak to the MW about it later and that she will tell me it is all normal!

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 13:44

And I agree Spugs that your DH should be doing the cat litter but if he is anything like mine... (he refuses to do it and would shut the cats out all the time so he didn't have to clean it out - don't want them alienated!)

Feedmenow · 10/09/2007 14:01

Good afternoon!

First of all, I just wanted to send some big hugs to Emmsy. I really hope that this is just a bit of a bleed and nothing more serious. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. xxx

Fettle, having a favourable cervix sounds like it has a personality of its very own! I hope the appt goes well tomorrow and that you can have a chance to relax and let nature take it's course.

I had my scan and my bloods earlier. All looks fine. According to the size, I will actually be 13 weeks tomorrow , with my EDD being 18th March. Just wondering, does anyone happen to know anything about the nuchal fold measurement and maternal age? Like, does anyone know where I could see the stats now, insetad of waiting for them to combine the measurement with my bloods and get back to me?

Anyway, have already missed 3 hours of work so better get on with it!

spugs · 10/09/2007 14:06

ive rang about my scan and it isnt for 2 more weeks! ill be 14 1/2 weeks! so ive booked a private scan at the RVI foe wed £90 but we feel its worth it. bloody nhs are crap

gingercat12 · 10/09/2007 14:15

spugs Hope it goes well. I go to the RVI, too

MerlinsBeard · 10/09/2007 14:17

noooo you can't have yours before mine

MerlinsBeard · 10/09/2007 14:18

will you stil go to your other one? don't know how it works with private and nhs scans

Feedmenow · 10/09/2007 14:18

Spugs, were you going to have the combined nuchal test? If so, 14.5 weeks is too late! Can you not get it brought forward???

Feedmenow · 10/09/2007 14:24

Bloody internet! I stupidly just googled nuchal test measurements and found info from my hospital whereby they did furtehr investigations with a measurement of aboce 2.5mm. And guess what?? Mine was above 2.5mmm!! However, I have to wait for the combined result based on the measurement and my bloods. Apparently if there is a high risk I will be contacted within a couple of days and if it is low risk I will get a letter early next week. So just as I stop worrying about one thing, I start worrying about another1

MerlinsBeard · 10/09/2007 14:27

FMN..i may be wrong but i think its cause for concern only if combined with the results from blood test. i think they need both results for it to be a concern iyswim?
