Hello all, after 9 years of unexplained infertility with 1 failed round of IVF in April I am finally pregnant!

Currently in my 7th week (6 weeks 3 days) and due 1st June 2020!

I need some advice because my anxiety about being pregnant is really affecting me and that something might me wrong.

There are times I feel pain that comes and goes in my lower abdomen. Sometimes on the left and other times on the right but mostly on the left. The pain is not by the hips its lower down to the left of the pubic hair line so still quite central but to the left and right of it.

My GP appointment isn't until Tues where I guess they will refer me to a midwife at the hospital.

Should I go for an early scan?

The only people who know I'm pregnant apart from DH are those on the Conception thread and I think the burden of this is overwhelming and doesn't feel like its quite sunk in yet!

Lu x

I found out last weekend, due 15th of June till I get a proper check. I have been neurotic about testing to check I'm still pregnant (I have no reason to think anything bad has happened) it's just come out of the blue after waiting on a referral to look at fertility problems.

It's already dragging and I've only known a week! Waiting till 12 weeks will feel like forever. This is our first pregnancy and I'm 36

mspeanutbutter · 12/10/2019 19:28

@PurpleFox817 I was like that a bit too. I did about 6 tests over 3 days to make sure the line is getting darker. I watched a video about how to avoid a miscarriage and it made me quit caffeine. The other things are normal like don't drink or smoke and listen to your body. I have had a cold and announced to my husband that my energy reserves are for the baby and I'm not worrying about the housework lol

PurpleFox817 · 12/10/2019 20:26

@mspeanutbutter I love that idea! I did three tests on the first day including a clearblue digi that said 1-2 weeks and then two days later took another FRER and again positive! Any ideas on how to keep sane for the next 8 weeks?! Grin

mspeanutbutter · 12/10/2019 20:56

@PurpleFox817 I'm not sure! I've done it all before but I think I just had to trust everything was ok. Last time I was so confident and jumped straight to being excited to hold my baby haha and this time that seems so far away and I know there's so many hurdles till that day. Don't worry, the urge to organise every cupboard and draw in your house will hit and you'll be so busy 'nesting' you won't have time to worry lol!

Smiffette · 12/10/2019 21:02

@PurpleFox817 I found out last weekend and have the same due date! 15th June!
I did a referral online and I am not just waiting for my booking appointment with the midwife..... with my last pregnancy (which ended in mc) I had my booking appointment time at 9 weeks! I'm really hoping she calls next week to arrange.... it might sound silly but having the call and knowing it's in the diary helps the time go and makes it feel more real.

mspeanutbutter · 12/10/2019 21:46

Are we all taking the vitamins we need? So many avoidable things from just taking them.
Especially while the spine and organs and heart are being formed. (I'm vegan so also covering all my bases extra) my first pregnancy and baby we're both great! Super healthy 4.3kg boy (8lb2 I think)

Here's my list:
Iron
Omega3 DHA EPA from algae
B12
Iodine
Folic acid
D3
Miltivitamin (just in case)

LH1987 · 12/10/2019 21:50

@mspeanutbutter I thought just a pregnancy vitamin is enough, should I be taking more?? It has the full dose of folic acid in it.

Squisha82 · 12/10/2019 21:58

I'm on the pregnacare tablets which I hope covers everything 🤞🏼 Got a call with the mid wife this week so I'll make sure

LH1987 · 12/10/2019 22:01

@Squisha82 thanks, I'm taking the same. Let us know if your mid wife says different.

Squisha82 · 12/10/2019 22:13

@lh1987 will do, call is on Thursday 👍🏻

mspeanutbutter · 12/10/2019 23:41

If it's a specific pregnancy vitamin you're covered. I just take my own mixture of pills for my needs.

PurpleFox817 · 13/10/2019 09:43

@Smiffette I have booked a GP appointment for 22 Oct as that's how it works here......till then I've resisted taking any more tests!

@mspeanutbutter I have been on folic acid for a while as I'm naturally deficient, I am also on Vitamin D for the same reason (both prescription strength only) I also take a multivitamin which is a trying to conceive one I've been on since Feb and it says you can remain on it till 12 weeks but when I finish the box I'll by the pregnacare pregnancy ones.

I've cut down my caffeine hugely 😞 and I've been doing everything I am supposed to (drinking decaf tea on a night out 🤦‍♀️)

I love organising so that may be the next step forward. I'm having to refrain from buying things as I know I'll have a house full of things

Smiffette · 13/10/2019 09:51

@PurpleFox817 you fill in a form, which I can do in the go surgery or online I have found then I get a call directly from the Midwife... seems I don't need to see my GP here.
Then I book my 16 week appointment with my midwife at the booking appointment and I receive a letter directly for the 12 week scan.

So it will feel like a busy couple of months when things get rolling! 😃

PurpleFox817 · 13/10/2019 09:59

@Smiffette that's interesting, will you see a midwife for a booking appointment before your scan?

PurpleFox817 · 13/10/2019 10:05

Also is anyone else finding it hard not telling anyone?! I am so excited as I thought we would need fertility treatment and I had just told my close friends this recently......i obviously know it's so early and anything can happen

Squisha82 · 13/10/2019 10:12

@purplefox817 I'm the same, I won't be able to last the 12 weeks. I think we're going to tell parents and then see how it goes.... if anything did go wrong having the support of others is important to me.
As this is my 1st I'm paranoid anyway!!

PurpleFox817 · 13/10/2019 10:19

@Squisha82 it's our first too! Congratulations! I have planned to tell the family first but was going to do it with a scan picture......my husband is so supportive and loving which is helpful as we talk about it lots already. Been longing for a child for ages and seen friends get pregnant etc but thought it would never happen for us

Squisha82 · 13/10/2019 10:23

@PurpleFox817 congratulations to you too 😁 we're the same in that we've watched all our friends have babies and just never been lucky, so at 37 I'm cautious. I've always been a big fan of a gin, so the minute I turn down a drink my friends will know!!

Smiffette · 13/10/2019 10:30

@PurpleFox817 yep, the first appointment will be between 8-10 weeks with the midwife, and that's the first contact I'll have x

mspeanutbutter · 13/10/2019 10:43

I told my mum, nana and sister at 4 weeks last time and they all couldn't contain themselves and told people. They are lovely people but just can't keep a secret lol. I've decided to not expect them to even try and I'll be telling them as soon as I'm happy for everyone to know. I am shocked at how good I have been at lying 🤥 I never keep anything from my family. We're super close like best friends. But this time I want it to be just us for a while. It might be my last pregnancy so I am savouring it. I'm one of those crazy people that loves being pregnant! Haha.

PurpleFox817 · 13/10/2019 11:13

@Squisha82 I'm 36 and baby is due between our wedding anniversary (9th June) and my birthday (24th June) so I'm expecting to be told a few times about my age; also about my weight as I had only just rejoined slimming world and lost half a stone then got the good news - as we thought we had to have fertility treatment I was beginning an epic weight loss journey.....in just hoping it isn't ruined for me by people harping on about my weight the whole time 🤦‍♀️

@mspeanutbutter my dad has memory issues since a bad cardiac arrest/clinically dead for 12 mins therefore i won't tell him because he will remember this but forget it's a secret 🤦‍♀️😂 is it hard to hide the closer you get to 12 weeks?

mspeanutbutter · 13/10/2019 12:30

@Squisha82 oh that's understandable about your dad, sorry to hear of his memory issues. I found it really easy to hide last time, in fact I was sad I didn't look more pregnant. I was small early on and got huge in the end lol! Had a big baby. I hate how people comment on weight. I had a friend comment on my pregnancy photo shoot "omg you're HUGE" we don't talk anymore lol my mother in law laughed at me when I couldn't fit between a chair and wall at the dinner table and said "haha you're not skinny anymore!" I was literally 36weeks pregnant...

Chester6 · 13/10/2019 13:08

Hi all, I wondered if I could join the group. I am 5 weeks 4 days pregnant (due 10th June) with a very longed for first baby after 5 rounds of IVF. I am over the moon and have definitely been having symptoms (sore boobs, the odd bit of nausea, a lot of tiredness and some groin pains on left side which made me nervous) but I feel absolutely petrified something will go wrong and almost don’t believe i’m actually pregnant. Husband doesn’t really get it but I feel I need to see the early scan in a couple of weeks to believe it. I think I’m so scared of more heart ache and can’t believe my body has actually achieved pregnancy. I’m due to have a scan at 7 weeks to hopefully see the heartbeat which I am desperate for although my IVF clinic did say they could scan at 6 weeks if I really want but that it may cause more anxiety if they can’t see the heartbeat yet. What would you do please? xx

PurpleFox817 · 13/10/2019 13:23

@Chester6 it must be really difficult given how longed for this pregnancy is; however I think that if you have it at 6 weeks it could cause you more anxiety and upset; I know it would me (hence all the pregnancy tests and googling I've already done)

I'm sure you will chose what is right for you x

Chester6 · 13/10/2019 13:29

Thanks so much @PurpleFox817 and congratulations!! We are due around the same time Smile. It feels so strange to say that, I still can’t get my head around it. GrinI think you are right and I just need to be strong and hold out. x
Is anyone suffering with constipation? (Sorry way tmi). I don’t know if mine is because I have to take progesterone pessaries. I keep being scared straining will harm the baby, or even just bending down. Ridiculous I know! I think I need to just keep telling myself that there isn’t anything I can do to harm it as it’s safe inside.
Are you making eating normally or trying to eat more healthily?
