@SRK16 I know, I just want a couple of decent hours. I’m not good at missing sleep, which I know will be worse once she is here. But I kind of don’t mind if it’s for reason, which that is. This is just being in pain and discomfort all the time and just had enough.

secretlyhermione · 20/09/2019 07:32

Good morning ladies! Also had a wake up at 3am but managed to fall asleep quite quickly after which I don't take for granted as doesn't happen often! Today I'm going to go do some shopping and meet a friend from my prenatal class for Mexican (we both had a craving!) I'm feeling the baby very low down which is starting to make walking and moving about difficult but I plan on staying active for as long as I can. This weekend we're also setting up the crib, we just need to find a way to keep our cat out of there! Anyone with pets who has any suggestions or keeping them away from the baby stuff?

Frizzy1986 · 20/09/2019 08:16

Sorry people are still suffering with sleep. I've had a good few nights which seems strange, but I have felt s&#t in the evenings building up to bed so maybe that's the payoff.

@secretlyhermione that sounds nice. I don't really see anyone in the day. I don't have many friends at all and they are all working so I tend to sit alone at home with the dog in front of the TV, or drive to the shops.
If I do too much my hips hurt so I am fairly limited with my activity levels which is a shame. Last time I had no such problem but dd arrived at the start of mat leave so I didn't have time to stay active. I can just about walk the dog round the estate, but other than that I only really see people when I drop dd off at school and pick her up, but mum's already have their cliques now so there's only 1 mum I know and say hi to.

We have a dog and she was really good when dd was born. We made sure we introduced them and let the dog sniff her lots and then it was a case of keeping dd up high and never leaving them alone together, ever.
I'm not sure the dog was that fussed about the toys except maybe a sniff of the noisy ones. Our house is full of dog though, it'll smell like dog, they'll be dog germs about, so I guessed that it'll all build immunity to things.
Obviously the main thing was always making sure they are wormed and flead. I think we wormed her monthly after speaking to our vets.

I know someone with a cat and know they got special netting for over the crib and moses basket and just had to shut doors to prevent the cat from using them as beds or snuggling up to baby for warmth. They've had no issues though.

Em39ma · 20/09/2019 08:24

@Frizzy1986 our house always smells of dog, spend my life washing her beds, fleeces etc. But never really goes away.
Both of us were brought up with dogs, so like I think it builds up the immunity. Lexi is only 9 months, but adores my nieces, in fact there only ones she listens too. Her and the four year old are so funny together. Four old said come and she is there like a shot, they play house etc.
Our plan for when the baby comes home is to just put her down on the floor and let her sniff her. That’s what we did with my nieces with our old dog, but he was always like. Oh another one, yes it’s lovely, can I go back to bed now😂.
We will see how it goes with a hyperactive Labrador puppy.

HJWT · 20/09/2019 08:43

Good morning everyone! Feeling in a bit of a better mood today ☺️ trying to stay positive that I WILL NOT still be pregnant at halloween 😂 think I need to get some raspberry leaf tea and bouncing on my ball! The plus side was midwife could no longer feel baby's head yesterday so that means he is engaged right??

I don't know whether to build his bed & swing this weekend or not 🤔 feel like if I do I will be pregnant forever!

Hope everyone is feeling ok today! These last few weeks really are a struggle xx

HJWT

Built the cot and crib yesterday hurray! Still need to repack my hospital bag as it’s missing some things.

Anyone doing the spinning babies exercise ? They helped me last pregnancy to make sure baby presentation isn’t back to back.

CarysRed · 20/09/2019 09:27

Woke up with really bad cramps in my back. I barely got any sleep last night. Not sure if it’s just braxton hicks.

SunshineSophia · 20/09/2019 09:48

Morning!

@HJWT does bouncing on the ball help bring on labour?? If so, I'm starting that TODAY 😁 I've got some raspberry leaf tea and will start chomping some pineapple soon too - I am so ready for baby to be here!

@MrsNotNice ah that's so lovely! We have a cot bed but one of DH's relatives is giving us a next to me so won't be setting our cot up yet... I've bought a really nice cot canopy (think I bought it when I was 8 weeks 😋) that I have to wait to put up 😟😟😟😟😟

@Frizzy1986 ditto the vomiting - I was at a wedding last week and the food was amazing. DH was shocked how much I put on my plate 🙈 I ate it all up but regretted it at 5am when it all came up 😟

MrsNotNice · 20/09/2019 09:53

SunshineSophia
Good luck! Try eating dates as well. It ripens the cervix and there has been evidence in research papers for it to help.

Need to start bouncing today too.

I’m going to start making padsickles and lactation cookies too today. For post delivery.

You ladies starting to freeze some meals ? I’ve frozen 7 meals so far. Small freezer so choosing efficient meals to freeze.

Figuringitout · 20/09/2019 10:25

Everyone on this thread sounds so organised! I’m taking raspberry leaf capsules and that’s about it. Was hoping to find my birth ball in a cupboard yesterday when I located the car seat - as last babies have been back to back and breech, so hoping this one might behave - but haven’t yet.
I feel like I ought to be nesting, batch cooking and prepping but in reality I want to sit with my feet up and drink copious amounts of elderflower and soda with ice!

cattaxi · 20/09/2019 10:29

Balls! Just lost a massive post. I’ve woken up with a stinker of a cold & sore throat. Feeling very sorry for myself. I don’t think I’ll be venturing far from the sofa today 🤧

I hope everyone has a good day.

CarysRed · 20/09/2019 10:34

@Figuringitout I’m like you, I’ve just about finished the nursery. Finalised a name yesterday. And that’s it, no batch cooking, no raspberry leaf tea, no ball. I might start tonight.

Frizzy1986 · 20/09/2019 10:34

@mrsnotnice I have a few things frozen ready. 2 big lasagnes, 3 cottage pies, 2 chicken pies, 2 sausage stews and a bolognese. We thankfully have an American fridge freezer though.

I took one raspberry leaf capsule last time before I went into labour haha. I don't think it had anything to do with it though.
From what I've read, raspberry leaf doesn't induce labour, but it can help tone the uterus therefore making it more efficient during labour.

I think they say hip rolls and gentle bouncing on the ball can encourage baby's exit as it provides that all important gravitational pull, but if baby isn't ready, I'm not sure anything will make it come out.

Im watching Bohemian Rhapsody as its just been released on Now TV. Then I'm going to go and get some bread from the shops and maybe treat myself to a prawn cocktail which I have bee craving loads this week!

newbabyyy2019 · 20/09/2019 10:37

What is raspberry leaf? I've never heard of it before.. What does it do?

newbabyyy2019 · 20/09/2019 10:40

I've tried to batch cook a few times when I've made me and DP dinner but my greedy DP then eats the rest of the food I've cooked whilst it's cooling down ready for the freezer..

newbabyyy2019 · 20/09/2019 10:43

@Frizzy1986 😮 prawn cocktail has also been my craving all week!

Figuringitout · 20/09/2019 10:46

To be honest (given how unprepared I am) I’m not hoping to induce, but apparently raspberry leaf can tone uterine muscles and make the second stage of labour more effective. It might not do anything, but I figured it won’t hurt!

Figuringitout · 20/09/2019 10:48

@CarysRed - nope you are definitely a few steps ahead of me! My ‘next2me’ is in a box in the conservatory, I have a name shortlist - don’t know sex - but nothing concrete and have no plans to batch cook, DH can take care of dinners when the baby arrives!

Figuringitout · 20/09/2019 10:49

However - I have just shoved in another load of baby washing and started to throw some things into a hospital bag, so this thread is definitely motivating me!!

SamStephens · 20/09/2019 11:01

I’m just jumping in to join the thread, hope that’s okay :) I’m 38wks on Sunday - did the 6th. Had a midwife appt yesterday where the student midwife, while lovely, was a bit rough with the poking and prodding to understand baby’s position. Her head is smack bang in my pelvis (although 5/5 so not engaged) but Christ does it ache!! I’ve still got another two weeks of work left but thinking I’m going to play the pregnancy card and work from home on thurs/fri from now on just in case.. still need to pack a bag. My MIL only just bought me a box of newborn nappies which was an “oh yeah I should start stocking up aye..” type revelation moment.

MrsNotNice · 20/09/2019 11:13

I’ve been such a slack to be honest, last pregnancy I was more organised. But this thread is definately motivating me. Thanks guys.

I never tried raspberry leaf, where can I quickly get it from and which week do u start taking it?

Figuringitout go on the spinning babies website, their poses definately work for breach and back to back. I feel the gym ball helps with the engagement of the baby down the pelvis but the spinning website helps the presentation.

Guys padsickles were a lifesaver last delivery. Google them, aloe Vera and witch hazel on pads then in the f
Freezer for after birth to promote healing of your nether regions and soothing the pain.

Also lactation cookies I didn’t make last pretnajcynand ended up snacking on anything and everything and gained so much weight. But making lactation snack balls helps reduce the sugar rush after breastfeeding and promotes milk production and so lowers that starvation feel.

I sound organised but I’m quite behind on preparing my baby’s basics.. the newborn clothes which I’m passing down from first born really need washing Blush and my laundry basket is already over flowing.

CarysRed · 20/09/2019 11:28

I’m watching call the midwife and absolutely crapping myself😂. DM has been washing baby clothes at her house, she sent me this last night. He’s going to be the first grandchild and great grandchild so he’ll be spoilt rotten.

Figuringitout · 20/09/2019 11:53

@MrsNotNice - Amazon! I don’t drink tea so ordered capsules, but you can get teabags too. Fennel tea is also really good for milk supply and reducing colic in babies - I did drink this last time as there wasn’t a tablet alternative.
I have also ordered the ‘Spritz for Bits’ and ‘No Harm Nipple Balm’ as both have great reviews. I didn’t use anything down below last two times and was fine - and I had the lansinoh cream for nips but found it too sticky, so trying something new!

Figuringitout · 20/09/2019 11:54

I have also stated watching ‘The Positive Birth Company’ digital pack in prep for labour, to be honest last night I fell asleep watching it, so it is definitely relaxing!!

MrsNotNice · 20/09/2019 11:59

Spritz for Bits oh interesting will look that up.

I’m using coconut oil for nipples and if they crack then Lansinoh seemed magical to me.

I had a big tear last time and I was able to avoid over dosing in pain killers by having something icy down there. Its Very soothing for sure. I also ended up asking for ice cubes in the hospital and sitting on a donut with ice in their rubber gloves under my bits which was amazing for pain relief.

But this brings me to remember, I packed a squeezy bottle in my hospital bag and I need to prepare my maternity after care basket. The bottle was very useful to spray water on the private parts while peeing to remove the sting by diluting the acidity of the urine. Peeing is uncomfortable with stitches and the bottle was a god send.
