I'm just back from my midwife appointment and she thinks it's only a matter of days for me. Yikes!
I'm officially due a week on Sunday but it's a tricky time as DD birthday Friday, her party Saturday and my due date Sunday and parents evening on Monday. I honestly don't know how that's going to pan out but all part of the fun, right? 🙈

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 27/09/2019 12:41

Also yes I've done the PBC digital pack. I do think it's really prepared me as I've been more nervous this time since I know what I'm in for. Last time I went in a little over confident and a fast and furious 3 hour labour with retained placenta really left me shell shocked.

cattaxi · 27/09/2019 12:42

Good afternoon! Ds has gone back to school & i’ve had a productive morning sorting out loads of life admin stuff. Also managed a cheeky 45 minute nap before I woke up starving. I’m eating so much since I finished work - too much time to think about food. No wonder my bump took a massive leap off the chart at the last measurement 🙊

Lovely to hear from you @SamStephens. 6 hour stretches are fab! Ds was a great sleeper as a newborn and I think it really helped my recovery. Hopefully this one will be the same.

Sorry you are in so much pain @Em39ma 💐

@SC0508 I had a bit of a lecture for the dr the other day that I shouldn’t expect this labour to be anything like my first one! I’ve had a few mates who’ve had very stop start initial phases. Frustrating - but hopefully it’s all heading in the right direction for you.

I didn’t really get into hypnobirthing last time - but I did really enjoy a book called “birth skills” by juju sundin. It talks you through labour & gives you loads of good techniques to deal with the pain etc. I found it really practical & helpful. I did end up with an epidural as I was on the drip having strong contractions for 20+ hours & utterly exhausted. But I got through a good 12 of those hours thanks to the book.

What a busy time for you @Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy! Maybe the baby will hang on until it’s all done? I bet your dd would love a sibling as a birthday present! Good luck!

SC0508 · 27/09/2019 13:08

Just woke up from a 2hr nap felt great after being awake all night with pains but have now woke up with diarrhoea (tmi I know) and feel I could be sick any moment.

I had a lot of pain below before I went to sleep was constant cramped and tight, woke up and as soon as I stood to go pee the pain is right back 🙁

How's everyone else feeling today?

secretlyhermione · 27/09/2019 13:11

Hi ladies, and happy Friday!
I've also downloaded the PBC digital pack and am almost through the course (I've read the book as well which I really liked). First time mum here so no idea about the pain but I am hoping it will help get me through it.
Yesterday was a really busy day, and we ended it with a lovely dinner out with three of my colleagues and their partners. Today I've taken it quite easy and just done some laundry and relaxed. We're off to my cousin's wedding tomorrow which is a two hour drive from where we live and we've decided to leave in the early evening and come back home as DP is keen to have a rest day on Sunday and I'm in the nesting stage and don't fancy spending a night out! Also wouldn't want any "early" surprises so prefer to be back here if baby decides to make an early apperance!
My parents are staying on till Tuesday (they live abroad) so will be nice to have them around although my mother is not the super emotional type and tends to be quite negative so I hope she doesn't ruin my mood (I'm trying to stay very positive throughout this whole pregnancy, especially these weeks, to get the oxytocin flowing!)
Last minute things have now all been bought or washed, so I just have a few more things to pack in my bag such as snacks, water etc but I'm feeling much more ready!
Really enjoying mat leave, I thought I would be so bored but it's the exact opposite! Also nice to get those naps in, I woke up every hour for a wee from 4am onwards....

SRK16 · 27/09/2019 14:36

Bush update: tried to trim/tidy up with shaver and a mirror, don’t really know what happened as even with the mirror I still couldn’t see- but within moments had sliced inner thigh and blood EVERYWHERE. Have put the shaver away and will leave it as it is 🤷‍♀️

cattaxi · 27/09/2019 14:53

Holy crap @SRK16! I was thinking of trimming the hedge this weekend. Maybe I’ll leave it ......

I have literally spent all day on the phone sorting out gp stuff, phone bills, electricity deals, school stuff etc, etc! The house isn’t any cleaner, but that’s loads off my to do list. I’m exhausted now. 3pm for school pick up sure comes around quickly.

Frizzy1986 · 27/09/2019 16:04

@srk16 that's tickled me. Sorry about the incident though. It must have looked like a disaster zone, but at least you didn't slip in the blood and then have to attempt to get up (clearly that's the scenario that came into my head)

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy oooo exciting. Hopefully baby times it perfectly to fit in with your busy schedule.
Did the midwife say why she thought it would only be a matter of days for you? My midwives are so on the fence. They never stray from the script of "it can be any time" and "baby will come when its ready" and "everyone is different" etc.
I've not asked at all this time, but last time, even when dd was so low they couldn't tell if it was her head or not, they gave 0 indication that things could be earlier than I was anticipating.

@cattaxi glad you managed to cross things off your list at least. I've hardly done anything. Dd wanted to go to breakfast club so dh took her in. I then watched TV, the MIL took me shopping to help with the bags and then I've picked up dd from school. That's been my whole day.

@secretlyhermione I'm glad you're not getting bored. I think I was OK the first few days/week, but it's getting tough now. Too much time to think about how uncomfortable I am and question when baby will arrive. Wish there was something decent on at the cinema that I could watch. Next week I might go somewhere for some cake or something, but it's not the same if you are on your own in a cafe with no one to talk to.

@SC0508 Ooo it really does sound promising to me (although I don't want to get your hopes up at all)
I'm still on Braxton Hicks, but I do feel different today. Think that's just being tired and my hips aching a bit more. The BH are really getting on my tits now though. I wouldn't mind if they were actually doing something, but BH are useless and yet they are really uncomfortable and I get them so so much now.
Maybe something will change and I'll have some good luck over the weekend!

Flu jab for me tomorrow. Am going to see if dd wants to come with me as she's always interested when I go to the docs for something. She gets right up close.

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 27/09/2019 16:23

@Frizzy1986 she said he was very low and I have been having bits of plug and on off tightenings through the night on and off.
Other than that I am around the same time scale that I had DD. It was the same on and off for a few days then it all kicked off fast and furiously.

Frizzy1986 · 27/09/2019 16:30

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy definitely sounds like you could be close then.
I'm way past when dd arrived (2 weeks longer in fact) and still no signs of it shifting.

HJWT · 27/09/2019 16:45

@Figuringitout I really cant listen to someone who says birth is not meant to be painful and it’s fear causing tension someone like that would also tell you having an epidural is failing!!

I am not scared to give birth because at the end of the day its hurts like hell but it does end but let me tell you now I told my DH to kill me the first time 😂

OP posts:
MrsNotNice · 27/09/2019 16:49

I’m so scared of labour pain because my body is already mashed from breastfeeding and lack of sleep I don’t know if I have the physical energy to do it. I can Hardly get myself to walk for an hour or do chores let alone labour..

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 27/09/2019 16:52

@Frizzy1986 I'll probably be bouncing on my ball eating pineapple and curry in two weeks 😂

Figuringitout · 27/09/2019 17:00

@HJWT - yeah, that’s kind of how I feel. As though the message is somehow that if it hurts, then you’ve done it wrong! If labour didn’t hurt, then period pains and after pains would hurt either would they?!
I think the message about being as relaxed as possible is a good one. I’m a bit worried as September/October are busy birth months and I am really hoping to have a water birth (previous two have been) and I’m not sure how I will cope if I have to do it on dry land!! I’m trying to get my head around the idea that it might not be possible, but worried it might throw me.
Set the crib up today, DH has been cleaning and I’m feeling ready for baby now - hope I don’t have another two weeks to wait!

MrsNotNice · 27/09/2019 17:11

Omg you reckon it will be too busy to get a water birth Shock??

SC0508 · 27/09/2019 17:17

@Figuringitout I have the same fear too, I had a water birth with DS and it made it so much more comfortable that I didn't need any pain relief.
Really hoping this time around I can have another water birth but my local hospital only has 1 so my odds ain't the greatest.

Frizzy1986 · 27/09/2019 17:25

@figuringitout yes I read that either 25th or 26th Sept are the busiest birth dates due to Xmas and Boxing day conceptions.
Births always tend to peak 9 months after holidays. I find it funny though as I know hardly anyone with Sept birthdays, most people I know are more July time.

I found the attached on the ONS website (national statistics) although later months are provisional figures.

Frizzy1986 · 27/09/2019 17:27

Oh and I want a water birth too. Thankfully my hospital have pools in all rooms or inflatable pools for rooms that don't have static ones.
I hope they make sure they have them available and don't hire them all out.

SRK16 · 27/09/2019 17:33

@HJWT @figuringitout I’m not having a vaginal delivery but on the same page, of course it will hurt and pain doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong! But tension does make pain worse, so I get that bit and how breathing etc can help (but not make it a painless experience!)

@Frizzy1986 also glad I didn’t slip in the blood, imagine!!

I’m getting very anxious/excited. C section is tomorrow and I can’t believe it’s actually happening and that I’ll actually have a baby. I’m hoping to get a decent sleep but think I’ll be too excited! Have a very early start to get there and my sleep is so shit anyway. I keep triple checking my bags. Wondering about taking my own pillow as it might feel more comforting?! Feel v emotional.

HJWT · 27/09/2019 18:01

@Frizzy1986 we conceived DD on new years & she was due 16th September! I remember delivery being busy when I got induced 5th September xx

HJWT · 27/09/2019 18:05

@SRK16 Aw so excited for you 🥰 take a pillow! Im going to take one but bring it in after he is born and I am on the ward xx

Figuringitout · 27/09/2019 18:26

Wow @SRK16 - good luck for tomorrow. How exciting that this time tomorrow you will be snuggling a newborn. I’m jealous!
Please keep us updated if you are able.
I don’t know how many rooms have pools in the birth centre - I’m hoping it’ll be fine, but need to get it into my head that it might not be possible.
The numbers aren’t massively higher, especially spread across the country, so that makes me feel a bit better!!

Frizzy1986 · 27/09/2019 18:33

Good luck @srk16 can't wait to hear all about it.

@figuringitout the website is

So you can check your local region and everything for most recent data. Also number of males and females born.

Em39ma · 27/09/2019 18:51

Had a busy day, so hoping I’m to tired to feel how much pain I’m in, in bed later.
Dog woke up with manky eyes, so she’s been to the vet. Got the dry snacks etc for the both of us, will get fruit on Tuesday.
DF and DH are putting up a shelf unit and hanging bar in the spare room tomorrow, so went got everything we need today in the van. Just so you know, at 9 months pregnant getting in and out is not easy. Driving it is easier than the car, because you have so much room when I managed to climb up.
Friend has brought over 2 big bags of 0-3 months clothes, she had her 3rd 9 weeks to ago. Means we have more than enough clothes!!!
Now shattered and hoping to stay awake until at least 9.

Figuringitout · 27/09/2019 18:51

@Frizzy1986 - thanks for that. My area doesn’t look too bad. The busiest month had 20 more babies than the quietest so hopefully I will be ok! Fingers crossed.
I’m a bit gutted as in the 4 years since I had my last baby our lovely local maternity unit (which had a pool in each room and which offered postpartum recovery) has shut due to lack of funding. Angry
