So who's breech at the moment and how many weeks are you?

I'm 33+1 and I don't reckon this LO will turn!

Will keep you updated

You're so welcome! Don't let him disturb your peace of mind. You've thought about your decision at length, and we all know how tough the decision is. You've made your peace with it. It wasn't an easy decision to make. You deserve to have a few days of calm now, not worrying (again) about whether you made the right decision.

I bet he is a great obs though - these guys are really skilled and your section will be totally fine. His bedside manner is the only thing he could improve on I'm sure...

love. x

Well had my hosp appointment today. Fibroid has doubled in size since 20wk scan - now aboout 9 cm across and just two one side of cx. Baby still breach and the great worry is that the legs will get passed the fibroid but not the rest of him. Really left with no alternative but to accept CS.

Have booked in as late as poss - 1st OCt - when i'll be 39 +3. Mainly in the hope that bloody builders will have finished.

Feeling resigned and stoical and at least i know what to pack for.

Good luck to the others

emj23 · 07/09/2007 19:18

Sorry you didn't have a good time at your appointment today either Hopey. Sending you good wishes.

Alfie72 · 07/09/2007 21:00

Hey Horace, Sorry it hasn't quite gone to plan and I know it's hard but try and look at the positives- you have a focus and a plan and at the end the result is the same- Your LO arrives !! I felt dissapointed too but sometimes control flies out the window. Thinking of you !!:O

Alfie72 · 07/09/2007 21:10

TinaLC · 08/09/2007 19:07

Hi all, haven't read the whole thread but looks like i need to be on here!

i'm 36+3 and lo's head has been down for the past 10+ weeks, but in the past week GP and MW have said baby seems to be breech, so waiting for next wednesday now to see what my other MW says

popadopalis · 10/09/2007 10:43

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining your thread. I'm 30 weeks pregnant with #2 and he's breech at the moment. Had a momentary panic due to midwife and consultants reaction to this but have been reassured by ladies on mumsnet that he has plenty of time to turn so feel a bit better.

Why do people always tell you horror stories and horrible things rather than reassuring you that all could be fine? Grrrrrrrr!

Hopeitwontbebig · 10/09/2007 13:12

J20baby and popadopalis, you're more than welcome to join our club!!

j20baby, fingers crossed you're appointment next Wednesday brings some good news and your baby is Ceph.

popadopalis, people just LOVE telling their horror stories. So many of us have been saying just that on this and other threads! Try not to pay any attention. FWIW you still have plenty of time for your baby to turn.

Hi I'd like to join you all too

Am panicing slightly after my check up with my MW on friday as she said baby is breech.
Everyone has said theres plenty of time yet but I am sooooo hoping for a home birth as this is my 3rd and last baby.

I have visions of me doing handstands and funny weird position things for the next few weeks lol.

horace · 10/09/2007 14:53

Been out to buy big pants and PJs along with a couple of books since i will be spending longe in hosp than expected. will order some arnica. shopping therapy worked wonders. Advised dh that will not be able to do any house work for at least 3 weeks. Quite looking forward to the rest now. Think i should book beauticiaan appointment to tidy up lady garden- tried a trim acouple of weeks ago - looking like a very old motheaten cat - didn't realise how hard it was to use scissors when looking through a mirror.

Quite weird to know that date but can now see loeads of advantages.

Nbg · 10/09/2007 15:19

Can I just ask, those of you who are have a date for scheduled sections, what have you been told in regards to "healing" time?

I'm a bit concerned about mobility and things like that when I have 2 other children to look after and one of them needing to go to preschool.
Also dh only has 2 weeks paternity leave and he's wondering whether to inform work that he made need extra time off.

Holly29 · 10/09/2007 19:40

Hello new ladies,

I think healing time depends on each person. A good friend of mine had a section and was driving in 2 weeks, but another felt really unable to do much at all for 6 weeks. I am planning to expect the worse with mine and have now roped in my Mum to come for 2 weeks and have engaged the services of a cleaning lady too! My DH can't get any extra time off work, but he is going to take his paternity leave when my Mum leaves.I thnk the more help you can get/ask for, the better.

lots of love

Holly
(37+ 4, booked in for section on 20 Sept).

horace · 10/09/2007 19:58

I may have to have a Classis Section - which may take longer to heal. I had never heard of on eof these until last friday but will ry to enlighten you. Please don't expect that this is likely to happen to you since it is due to having a large fibroid in just the wrong place.

The Cut is made in the normal place on the outside, then if the fibroid is behind it they cut you up the middle on the inside. I am assured this will not end my glamour modeling but it sounds vile. The consultant said healing isn't liket to be much longer but I may need extra pain relief for a couple of days.

Like you I have two other children and am most concerned about recovery times. The best I have heard is being pretty much OK after three weeks - in both of these cases my friends did nothing but sit on the sofa for two weeks after coming home. So am planning to do the same. I don't know anyone who was still not driving at 6 weeks. So they key seems to be being really strick with youself for th efirst couple of weeks.

36+4 CS booked 01/10

j20baby · 10/09/2007 20:04

Horace-how come your not on the Oct thread with us? {wags fingers}

i'm really worried about the recovery time, i'm on my own with a 7yo dd, there's no way i'm going to have anyone to help me, even for a few days.

what am i going to do if they do give me a c section!?

emj23 · 11/09/2007 19:55

Can anyone tell me if I'm allowed to eat or drink anything on the day I have my ECV? There's nothing written about it in the booklet the hospital gave me, but since there's a slight risk of needing an emergency caesarean, I just wondered. Many thanks.

horace · 11/09/2007 20:07

J20 - have been lurking on the oct thread but it moves so fast that i've never felt able to contribute reliably or got to know anyone.

Much sympathy to you since your on your own at home I'm sure it wont be easy for you. can you start preparing your 7 year old for what might happen and xpain that you wont be able to help with some things?. Mine are 2 and 4 and I'm not really sure how much you have to do for older children.

Hoping yours will turn really soon- get your bum in the air right now!

Alfie72 · 11/09/2007 20:55

EmJ23,
I have a feeling that you are meant to be nil by mouth prior to ECV because as you say you may need a C section in an emergency.
Can you call your M/W team ? I don't know when you are having it so not sure how urgently you need to know.

lizziemun · 11/09/2007 20:57

Emj23

I eat when i had my ECV. I don't think they give you a general unless it an emergency c-section.

Just a quick note i had my ECV on the 18th August when i was 37+6. I had regular contractions most afternoons about 20mins apart for 5 or 6 hours then they would just stop.

I was induced on friday at 41 + 1 wks, had a baby girl weighing in at 9lb 2oz.

j20baby · 11/09/2007 23:30

Horace-you must come over!! you have a special j20 invite just post your news now and then and compare ailments!

sorry to be thick but what is ECV?

i've got mw appointment tommorrow to see if lo is still breech-wish me luck!

Tangle · 11/09/2007 23:47

Hi all. Hope you don't mind me coming on so belatedly - I had a breech baby in April this year.

Really I just wanted to comment for Nbg - even if baby stays breech you don't have to abandon all thoughts of a home birth. This was my first baby, I had her at home and she wound up as a 9lb 12 footling breech born in about 7 hours and it was a wonderful, peacefull experience. DH and I did a lot of research and thought long and hard about the decision. We felt that it was the right one for us, based on the information we had and the midwifery resources available to us. If you want a chat about how we came to that decision feel free to give me a shout.

J20baby - ECV stands for External Cephalic Version, which is where an obs tries to manually turn the baby while it's still in the womb. In a small percentage of cases it can cause the baby distress, hence doing it with a theatre standing by just in case.

Hope you have safe deliveries, which ever way round your baby winds up

Nbg · 12/09/2007 09:05

That sounds great Tangle.
I had read a thread not so long ago about some women going for home births and natural births with breech babies.
I'll definately have a chat with my MW about it all as she knows my anxieties with everything.

My next appt is in a couple of weeks so I'll probably CAT you after that if you dont mind

Tangle · 12/09/2007 09:51

That's fine - hope everything goes smoothly in the meantime
