Good luck with the scan holly! do come back on and update as soon as you can.

My news? Csection moved forward to this friday. Is definite now. I have had one reduced fetal movement episode too many; they want to get to to 37 weeks and deliver! Am still trying to stay flexible if anything changes, but dont think anything will now change the csection outcome for me. Yikes!

Holly29 · 04/09/2007 15:16

Dal, wishing you lots of love and energy and strength for Friday! I am one of your text buddies I think so please do text me when you are able and I will update the board. It will all be fab - honestly, all my friends who have had sections have come of the woodwork in the last week to tell me how OK it all is...

Will update on scan later. x

dal21 · 04/09/2007 15:24

Hi all

Just checking in to see how you are doing.

Dal - good luck for Friday - glad you know what's going on!

hope everyone else is doing ok - giving birth (however you do it!) is so hard without all this worry leading up to it - it's not fair.

My little one is still firmly head down, so he obviously didn't like his little jaunt head up!, which is good for me. however, I've started itching and as I had obstetric cholestasis with DD, baby is being monitored twice-weekly and my bloods are being tested regularly as well. Luckily no real sign that I do have cholestasis yet (other than the itching) - blood tests on upper limit of normal, so see what Friday's tests say when I see the consultant next Tuesday!

Can completely agree with the wanting to know what is going on and able to be prepared - I do so hope that everything goes well for each and everyone of you.

xxx

Well, midwife confirmed today that LO is now head down - phew. Fingers crossed he stays that way. Seems comfy enough...

Good luck to everybody. I'll still be watching this thread as might be heading for a cs if placenta hasn't moved, and am interested to know how they go.

Good luck for Friday, Dal

Sorry not posted for acouple of weeks. Baby still head up acording to M/W last week and will be scaned and see consultant on Friday. Have been feeling dreadful for the last few days - can hardly breath due to lungs being the size of peanuts now. Have also had some really bad pains up my bum - sharp stabbing pains every time I move. Wondering if these are any thing to do with the low lying fibriod or can ou get internal piles. DH away on business, builders knocking hell out of house, Police complaining about where builders parked. This was the final straw at about 6pm tonight so I burst into tears. Worked like a dream on PC who began to apologise like mad.

Sorry for draery rant but it's made me feel better.

It's great to read that babies are still turning round - will get back to bum in air.

dal21 · 04/09/2007 21:20

Fettle/ Orangecat - fingers crossed for you both! Hope bubs stay firmly headdown..

Alfie - good luck at thurs appt.

Horace - at your day, think we are getting to the stage where feeling overwhelmed is more likely than not on occasion! Get thy bum in the air lady!!

Holly - hope the scan went ok.

I may attempt to update stats tmrw am - far too late in the day to do it now.

Holly29 · 04/09/2007 21:23

Hiya ladies,

Well, the scan confirmed that my LO is still breech and also in a weird extended breech position so this means that unless there is a miracle, he won't turn now... well, at least I tried. They wouldn't even consider ECV in the position he is in. So I am now booked in for a section on the 20th. I am fine about it, had sort of made my peace with it, and I felt relief when i came out, now that I know what is happening...

I will update the other board, but in the meantime, I will now read the c-section hospital bag link!

Alfie, of course we will email you as soon as we hear from Dal. Dal, are you taking Arnica?

Holly29 · 04/09/2007 21:24

Oh and I am so pleased for you Orangecat!

dal21 · 04/09/2007 21:32

Holly - is LO footling breech or even worse where one foot is down and one foot up?

I have arnica - 200c from ainsworth (can also pick it up from helios/ neals yard) and I will start taking it the day before the op. Then take loads after the op. MW confirmed that it wont interfere with any of the drugs they will give me.

The only thing I havent gotten is the over the bump pants....not sure how wise that is...but when I went into mothercare I read that the premium reusable briefs I had bought for normal birth were also suitable for caesarean.

The other thing my MW told me today - in her experience, women who have elective CS tend not to suffer from trapped wind as much as those ladies who have labour then emergency CS. I thought that was quite interesting! So who knows?

By the time you are due in though, I will hopefully have had a chance to post and share tips/ my experience.

Think it is perfectly natural to feel relief after being so up in the air. At least you now know. Are you feeling nervous at all?

Holly29 · 04/09/2007 21:43

Yes, he appeared to have on foot up and one down - and both his arms over his face too! But seems quite happy apparently... I am a bit nervous, but I think because it is still 2 weeks left I am not too bad. I need to buy some of that 200cc stuff, mine is 60 which isn't going to cut the mustard... Are you OK?

bex44 · 04/09/2007 21:57

Hello all,
Good to hear that LO's are behaving and heading down for some, and plans are being made for others.
I've just caught up as I've had a disasterous few days with lap top crashing so internet access only available on top floor of house coupled with a leaking toilet and nearly getting electrocuted because of that. We've also been having our bathroom done and I've been having to trek downstairs for middle of the night loo trips, and manage with a shower rather than wallow in the bath! I don't know how I'm going to manage to shave my legs for thursday!! DH perhaps...
Thursday is d-day. I will let you know how it goes. Currently I'm terrified, but at the thought of having a real live baby to look after rather than how he's coming out! I can't wait to meet him.
Dal, good luck for Friday, and good luck to those with scans coming up....

Alfie72 · 04/09/2007 23:16

Thanks for the lovely good luck messages.
Bex- hope your house gets sorted really soon. Yeah, you get DH working on those legs !! I can't really reach mine now either.
If I end up having the c section- I'll deffo be taking the arnica, anything to promote the healing. I am also taking extra care to oil up my tummy to make it nice and stretchy !!
All the best everyone and I'll be back soon to check on everyone's progress.

TinaLC · 05/09/2007 07:47

Dal, just popping in to say good luck for Friday and hope it all goes well.

My scan is Monday but i suspect based on kicks that the postion is similar with one foot up and one foot down so I have got my head around c section conversation. Will update next week

Congrats Orangecat, am pleased lo has settled. Keeps the hope up for us!

MrsFish · 05/09/2007 08:24

I have another appt with midwife tomorrow to see if my lo is still breech. If it is hopefully will get a scan next week, at least then I can start planning things. Woke up at 5.30 this morning thinking what if, and all the plans that I need to make, and worrying about logistics of not being able to drive for 4 weeks, and living in the middle of nowhere, with ds who needs to go to nursery.... I just hate the not knowing

Good Luck to those having their darling lo's soon

dal21 · 05/09/2007 09:30

MrsF - not knowing is the hardest part, so I do understand the waking early with the mind racing. I feel heaps better now I that I have an outcome - the best advice I can give is to try and not think about it too much. I know it is so hard. My SIL was driving within 2 weeks - so really, stay positive.

Holly - I am feeling fine. Like Bex, I am more now thinking about the reality of looking after the LO. I have decided to stay in hospital for 5 days - will encourage me to rest and also help to establish breastfeeding. Then for the first week - 10 days, I have my mum staying (thank goodness!), then have DH at home; so should be covered for the first 3 weeks at least. Think they will all be a blur!!

Bex - to you. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow. When are you heading in? tonight or tomorrow morning?

Re. the healing, defo stock up on the arnica 200 ladies. I just called ainsworths and for csection they have recommended not taking it beforehand, but start to take it as soon as is possible after the csection.
Take 6 doses every 2 hours over the first 12 hours. Then take 3 doses a day for the following 2 days. They are the experts, so am going to listen to them!

Good luck for all appts!

horace · 05/09/2007 16:26

Mrs Fish _ i can really empathise with the early morning worrying sessions. As the due date gets nearer I just want to know what's going to happpen. I feel I can't relax and accept the idea of CS until I know. I almost wish they would tell me I was having one - then the uncertainty would be over. I was so dead against a CS acouple of weeks ago - just don't know what's happening to me. Feel daft but need to know what to pack in my bag.

Really good luck to thoe with CS planned soon. I have been doing mini survey of everyone I meetand loads of people have been driving within three weeks so may be it will be much better tha we are all expecting?

Holly29 · 05/09/2007 17:11

MrsFish

I totally sympathise, and the night before my scan I couldn't sleep worrying about it, I just wanted to KNOW. Although I didn't get the news I wanted, I left the scan feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders, just because now I can start planning. So what you feel is totally normal, am glad you are finding out soon. x

Holly29 · 05/09/2007 17:14

Dal, can I ask - how much 200 Arnica did you order? Is one tube enough?

JayJ · 05/09/2007 17:23

Hi everyone, just returned from my appointment with the Midwife, baby is lay oblique. I am 35+4. I don't really know much about what this means. The position will be checked again next week.

Can anyone give me tips about how to engourage baby to move?

Is it likely that she will turn at this stage?

Thanks

Jay

MrsFish · 05/09/2007 18:04

JayJ - found this...

The most common word used to describe the presentation is 'Cephalic', a Latin word meaning 'head'. This may be shortened to 'Ceph' or simply written as 'C' and will be used if your baby is in a head down position. The other word used for a head down position is 'vertex', often written as 'Vx' or simply 'V'. The vertex refers to the crown of the baby's head. If your baby is breech (bottom down) this may be written as 'Br', and if your baby is lying across your belly it is 'transverse' or 'trans'. Babies lying diagonally across are referred to as 'oblique'*.

In fact, have a read of this very interesting
