So who's breech at the moment and how many weeks are you?

I'm 33+1 and I don't reckon this LO will turn!

Will keep you updated

Hi Tangle,
thanks for posting your story.

I'm also planning a HB for my first. My baby has been breech since 28 weeks (now 37 + 4) and I'm going for a scan tomorrow to check what type of a breech position she is in.

It is good to hear that you went through the same and had a positive experience! I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to do but luckily I have fantastic midwives who are happy to support me whatever I decide.

Hopefully I will find out that she has turned at my scan tomorrow and won't have to make a decission!

emj23 · 12/09/2007 18:48

My ECV is tomorrow lunchtime. I think I'll have breakfast nice and early and not have anything else til it's over. Bit of a compromise. Wish me luck

Alfie72 · 12/09/2007 18:52

GOOD LUCK EMJ23 !!
If you're up to it, let us know how you go tomorrow.

dal21 · 12/09/2007 18:56

Ladies - am back home, arrived last night. Quick update for you all!

Baby Ryan is doing great! Weighed 5lbs 1oz at delivery and arrived at 08.55am. The great part is that having all the bags packed to leave for the hospital at 7am, we headed in at 1am as my waters broke the morning of the elective section! How funny is that? I was able to go ahead with elective as booked (vs emergency at 2am) as my cervix was still firmly closed and had no contractions.

I have nothing but a positive tale to share with you all. My section was a great experience. We did skin to skin straightaway; fed in recovery. Was up that evening having a wash, having a shower the next day. Have hardly any bleeding. Am very mobile (although good fitness levels definitely help here) and milk came in day 3. The baby was fed formula until then and as a result only lost 3% of his birth weight when weighed on day 4.

Only negative comment is that after the section I went through a period of nausea and vomiting - wasnt pleasant, but got sorted pretty quickly after the anaethetist got the right anti sickness drug for me into me. Think I reacted to the morphine element of the epidural.

I decided to stay in for 5 days - got home last night. Am loving being a mum! It is amazing. Hope you are all well. Will read up when I get more time!

Love to you all and thank you for all your best wishes.
xx

WELCOME BACK DAL and RYAN !!!
So happy to hear that you and baby Ryan had a good and positive experience. I was wondering what would happen if my contractions started earlier than my scheduled section.
There is a very heated thread on el cs going on at the moment- this poor lady must have been scared rigid from some of the horror stories she has been given. There have been a handful of good ones too but I gave up writing on there, It was pretty bad. Maybe you could give them some positive comments.

Hopeitwontbebig · 12/09/2007 21:55

Good luck tomorrow EMJ x x x

Dal21 - so pleased it all went so well for you and Ryan. Big congratulations. Really makes me feel better having read about your positive experience. Are you in any pain now?

dal21 · 13/09/2007 12:57

nope, no pain - fingers crossed. recovery is still fine. cannot be bothered to post on the el cs thread - am far too content and cannot be bothered to get riled by the posters who are determined to scare the living daylights out of women who have an elective cs - for whatever reason.
everyone has a tale to tell and I just wanted to let you guys know that thus far - mine is a good one and I dont regret having it done for a second. Having Ryan here safe and sound is the most important thing to me.

emj23 · 13/09/2007 16:13

Didn't need my ECV, LO has turned all by herself sometime in the last few days - yeeeehah! Hope everyone is well!

Alfie72 · 13/09/2007 17:45

Too right Dal...I stopped looking at the thread after a while, was not helpful at all.
Cool news EMJ23.
My little one is still all tucked up with his/ her bum down.11 weeks on.
I am focusing on the big day now and getting very excited.

bex44 · 13/09/2007 17:46

Hello all,
Congratulations Dal and fingers crossed for all the turning babies.
I also have a happy tale, had my elective section on Thurs 6th, Maximilian born at 1657 weighing 7lb 7oz.
It was a completely relaxed, cheerful atmosphere in theatres. Their sound track included Pink Floyd's comfortably numb as the spinal went in and guns'n'roses sweet child of mine as he came out!!I'm fairly needle intolerant and they got all the lines and spinal in so quickly I barely had time to think of being anxious. Max was out before I even realised that they had started, and handed straight to DH who abandoned me and turned to mush in front of my eyes!
I also had skin to skin and first feed in recovery within half an hour.
DH wanted me to come home the next morning as I was up and around, and we're a family of medics, but they were only happy to let me go after 48hrs and I was very glad to stay for help with getting started feeding. The midwives were all absolutely fantastic as are the community ones visiting now.
I went for my first walk on day 5 and to the supermarket on day 6. I've just now got back from the local shops. I'm no longer taking any regular pain killers, and only occasionally take paracetamol.
My single problem now is sore nipples!! Can the little man suck!
Anyhow, to all who are worried at the prospect of an elective section, ignore the other thread! My experience was exactly as I hoped it would be.
Good luck to all!

Alfie72 · 13/09/2007 18:02

Congratulations Bex and welcome Maximilian !!
Pleased to hear you too had a good experience, I have heard a few encouraging reports this week now, I am actually quite geared up for it all now !!
Dal/ Bex- did you/ are you taking oral arnica after your section ? If so how much did you need. I know Dal wrote about this earlier but that was pre- surgery.
Also any other handy things to get in- I am a poor healer and would appreciate any words of wisdom.

Hopeitwontbebig · 13/09/2007 20:26

Thanks dal and bex for your positive and encouraging words regarding an el cs. Congrats are in order to you bex!!

Can't believe I have only until Monday to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Dal, I bought another nightie today!

OP posts:
Alfie72 · 13/09/2007 23:08

Good luck and Will be thinking of you On Monday I hope it won't be big .Perhaps I should get a nightie too..I thought I'd be cool with PJS once the catheter was out...but maybe I should make the investment.

horace · 14/09/2007 09:35

ooh not thought about the catheter ? PJ combination - will have to get a couple of nighties too since only bought PJs. Spent quite a lot on the PJs since thought at least would get to wear them around the house a t home never wear nightclothes in bed so will have to look for cheap nighties any ideas

Alfie72 · 14/09/2007 10:38

Horace, The catheter should be able to come out once your epidural wears off...
Listen to us we sound like an episode of casualty.
I am still planning to wear my PJS though as soon as I can. I am sure I can wear an attractive theatre gown until that time !!

RGPargy · 14/09/2007 13:13

Hello can i join in this thread?

I've just found out today that baby is breech, although i do have faith that she will turn round in time for her birthday.

i'm 29+3.

dal21 · 14/09/2007 13:27

Hi ladies

Congrats bex! welcome little maximillian! love the name. am glad there is another positive section story! Re the nipples - not sure if you have it - but lansinoh is miracle cream.

re the arnica.
I took 200c strength - first 6 doses every 2 hours first day. then 3 doses for following 2 days. I am convinced it helped me tons as I have not had any pain - only minor twinges.

re the jim jams - i am so glad I went and got a some nighties with the button down tops. after the op - i didnt want anything near the wound and once you take the dressing off (which i took off the following day), you feel very exposed and i wouldnt have wanted anything next to it - the nighties were a life saver.

Finally re the catheter - they left mine in (along with IV feed) until the following day so that i didnt try to get up in the night to go to the loo unassisted - mine was in for about 24 hours.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Midwife has just been and Ryan is already over his birthweight - a week old, and since he is a little on the small side, I am relieved to know he is getting enough from breastfeeding. Fingers crossed it continues.

EMJ - hoorah on the LO turning, stay put LO!

Alfie72 · 14/09/2007 16:52

Thanks for the tips Dal, really helpful. Pleased to hear that Ryan is settling into his new home. I hope the feeding continues to go well.
I heard from a M/w that tea tree in the bath and calendula cream really helps the C section wound healing too once it has all dried up nicely.

Holly29 · 14/09/2007 17:51

Hiya Alfie, Dal, Bex etc...

Bex, what a great birth story too. I am so grateful for you and Dal and your positive stories, and am avoiding the elective CS thread like the plague. I had an appointment with the obs who is doing the CS yesterday and he told me again that because of the way the baby is positioned, there is simply no way he would want to try for a natural birth, so I refuse to feel guilty!

In fact, I think we should refer to our sections as 'planned' rather than 'elective' because elective somehow suggests that we had an element of choice and I really don't think that I have had! (not that there is anything wrong with a section which is chosen of course).

Hope all well. Alfie, remind me when your op is? Mine is on thursday next week. Am off to buy some nighties this weekend now...

betsycoe · 14/09/2007 19:28

Well after weeks of stress about my baby being breech I went for my presentation scan yesterday and she was well and truely head down!

I think she turned on Wednesday (at 37 + 4) as I woke up in the middle of the night convinced I was in labour (due to pain in my side/back). She then spent the next 12 hours wriggling away causing me no end of back pain and Braxton hicks.

I was using Moxabustion (but obviously I'll never know if she would have just turned on her own or not).

Good luck to everyone else on this thread. I hope you all get the outcomes you wish for!

Holly29 · 14/09/2007 21:20

Betsy,

That's fab news, I am so pleased for you! Glad moxa worked for you.
I should say again that I have quite a few moxa sticks left which I am happy to donate to a good cause! If anyone wants them (free) let me know.

Alfie72 · 14/09/2007 22:12

Good idea Holly ! Planned CS does sound alot better. As you say plans have changed which are not of our control !! I have been alot more positive about the whole thing since I saw my LO
My planned section is on 24/9/07 ( Monday) so hopefully you'll be home with your wee one by the time I go in !! I'll be sending you +ve vibes !!!
Looked everywhere for suitable nighties today. There is nothing in normal ranges apart from highly unpractical cream silk or white so looks like I will have to make a special trip to a maternity shop !!
Wicked news Betsy !! I tried the moxa too ( I love acupuncture- it's been a lifesaver throughout my pregnancy) but my LO just did the side to side jiggle and I had early contractions so put that idea to rest, I am jsut going to see my fab acupuncturist to treat myself now- get tuned up for the big day !!
Chat soon !!

Alfie72 · 14/09/2007 22:15

What I was trying to say in my last post was " when I saw my LO on the scan- the position he/ she was in that paid rest to my decision to have the section".. Betsycoe - seriously you must not feel any guilt whatsoever cos in my opinion the LO makes the decision for you !!!

Alfie72 · 14/09/2007 22:17

Golly, pregnancy jelly brain...I meant Holly- you must not feel any guilt whatsoever as must none of the mamas to be whose LO are breech !!
