Ok, I did a bit of googling and looks like my hospital is on of 5 hospitals that do Reflex DNA screening, where they take 2 tubes of blood and do the standard combined test on the first tube and if it shows high risk they test DNA from the second without telling you about that. And therefore it takes longer I guess www.qmul.ac.uk/wolfson/services/antenatal-screening/screening-tests/reflex-dna-test/

Jesskir89 · 19/09/2019 18:46

Is everyone on this thread from London? Lol

brookelopez · 19/09/2019 19:48

nope! Midlands here

Jesskir89 · 19/09/2019 19:49

Manchester here :)

Hello,

Can anyone answer a question about the nipt and harmony test and the difference? I thought the harmony test gave you a definite answer but doesn't appear to.

We are just having the normal testing done during our dating scan, not expected but if for any reason it came back as a high risk I thought paying for the harmony test could be an option rather than the invasive tests. Could someone clarify if they know please?

ELW85 · 19/09/2019 20:06

@ineedanotherholiday - I looked into this recently and the Harmony test still only gives you a risk estimate (so 1:100000) it’s just it’s about 20% more accurate than the combined screening test.

ineedanotherholiday · 19/09/2019 20:08

Thanks for confirming @ELW85 Smile

ELW85 · 19/09/2019 20:12

@ineedanotherholiday - no worries! It’s difficult to navigate. I read something yesterday about some sort of medical board warning against people opting for Harmony if they think it’s diagnostic, as it isn’t.

ELW85 · 20/09/2019 12:25

Just got my screening back and really not sure how to feel.
I’m 34 and got 1/2090 for Downs and 1/12000 for Edwards and Pattau.
I know it’s better than my age related expectations but I’m still worried.

brookelopez · 20/09/2019 13:22

I'm 31 and got 1/1600 for downs and 1/2300 for Edward and patau. I am still in the low risk category. I would think at our 20 week scan they would be able to see if the baby did have downs or Edwards.

ELW85 · 20/09/2019 13:30

@brookelopez - I’m starting to think I’m worrying unnecessarily but it’s hard not to, when you see other people’s results of 1/10000 etc?

brookelopez · 20/09/2019 13:34

oh of course. a lower risk number would be fab, but we deal with what we have. if I'm still in the low risk category then you must be too. it's such a small chance. I am not even worried about my baby having Down syndrome, the Edward and patau on the other hand Sad

you could get a harmony test if you really wanted to, but I am sure most people who opt for that have such high risk results such as 1/200 it's probably not worth it.

how long until your 20 week scan?

ELW85 · 20/09/2019 13:37

@brookelopez - yeah, still classed as low risk. I think your results for Edwards and Patau are good?
20 week scan not until 8th Nov. Feels like forever away! When’s yours?

brookelopez · 20/09/2019 13:42

yep, my results are still good, I've been looking at ultrasounds of babies with downs, Edwards and patau on Google and I don't think I can see any similarities in my 2d scans or my 3d one, which is great!

mines on the 15th October. are you planning on a private scan before your 20 week? I had mine this Monday, absolutely amazing.

ELW85 · 20/09/2019 13:47

@brookelopez - definitely considering a private scan before then, probably for a couple of weeks time to break up the waiting time!

MunchyMunchkin · 20/09/2019 14:16

Harmony is just a type of nipty. It’s 99.9% accurate. It’s far more accurate than the nhs test but is still a screening test.
For what it’s worth I’m medical and paid for it and my local nhs trust offers it for free if you have a high risk combined test.

I’m in South Wales but originally from London.

ELW85 · 20/09/2019 14:21

@MunchyMunchkin - did you have the combined as well? I’m trying to understand if I’d get more comfort out of the harmony or not.

MunchyMunchkin · 20/09/2019 17:13

@ELW85 I didn’t bother as had harmony before the 12 week scan.
I wanted to have it as soon as possible as if the result was bad I wanted the option to do something about it.
Anything over 1:100 is not considered high risk.
Even at 1:100 99 babies will be fine.

brookelopez · 20/09/2019 23:43

anyone else weeing 25 times a day yet? baby is definitely on my bladder.

avocadoincident · 21/09/2019 08:06

@brookelopez
No and in fact the lack of urgent wee feelings worries me!

Staying in that department can anyone here remind me what I can have for thrush Hmm?

satsumasaturday · 21/09/2019 08:32

@brookelopez I have just about stopped needing to wee all the time which is great after constantly thinking I had a uti all of the first trimester! however I imagine that it'll be back again soon with a vengeance

How far along will you be when you have your 20 week scan? I'm 16+2 today and haven't heard anything yet. Midwife said to call if I still don't have anything booked yet 17 weeks. We're going on holiday the day I hit 20 weeks so I want it done sooner rather than later!

@avocadoincident I have fortunately not had to deal with thrush yet, but I think from reading other posts in the past the cream is the best place to start, followed by the pessary but not the tablet? Hopefully someone with better knowledge will be along to help!

Jesskir89 · 21/09/2019 08:41

@brookelopez yes! And @avocadoincident when I had it my midwife said cream or a pessary but Do NOT use the aplicater you have to insert it with your finger. Also don't tell the chemist you're pregnant as they won't give it you. How's everyone getting on with their weight? Ive just been to slimming world and lost 2.5lb this week so almost my holiday weight. I'm currently 3lb heavier than pre pregnancy

Jesskir89 · 21/09/2019 08:42

Sorry I should add I'm 14 week

Yvonne1988 · 21/09/2019 09:02

I just got my screening results in the app 1 in 100,000

@jesskir89 I am ignoring my weight. Trying to do the best I can but I'm just gonna have to tackle it afterwards. I still fit in my old stuff minus the obvious bump

MunchyMunchkin · 21/09/2019 09:38

@avocadoincident external cream plus pessary but don’t use applicator.
Get DH to buy it cover up the bump as chemists can’t officially supply. Should get better with that but sometimes in pregnancy you need the 6 day course which is prescription only.
