@MrsEG - not at all! The NIPT is based on the baby’s actual DNA as opposed to behavioural data on the NHS, so although they don’t give you a firm yes/no, the NIPT is a 99% high or low risk based on the baby rather than other people’s experiences/outcomes/statistics.

MrsR16 · 21/09/2019 14:27

@MrsEG men are silly really aren't they?!? 😂

@BostonFern ooh! I'm glad you like the look of them!

@thumper59 I've been noticing more and more discharge the further along I get! I'm just seeing how things go for the moment.

@PippaPug I'm doing ok! Tired now haha might have to go for a nap in a bit (my mum's already asked if I need to go upstairs for a bit, bless her!) if you feel tiredness is a bit too much, then I'd have a chat with your midwife, but I definitely didn't have the magic 2nd trimester burst of energy straightaway! I hope you're doing ok... keep us updated when you know anything xx

@Delilah7 oh he's simply scrumptious! That's fantastic that you're doing so well too. I'm doing alright, 12 and a half weeks to go! 😂 it is flying by so quickly xxx

Delilah7 · 21/09/2019 14:58

@MrsEG he's getting much more smiley and cooing it's lovely. Xx

@MrsR16 hehe thank you! Ahhhh that's not long. Be here before you know it haha xx

BostonFern · 21/09/2019 18:18

@thumper59 I think needing panty liners at this stage is pretty common-oh the glamour of pregnancy!

Thanks @MrsEG @Fivebyfive2 @PippaPug @Delilah7 , the sofa and I have become very good friends over the last week! Feeling less breathless today, so making progress I think. 🙂

@Fivebyfive2 How did the crib building go?

@PippaPug How are you now? Did all go ok at the EPU?

I'll put a few photos up of the birth bag, it came last night, I was really pleased with how nicely it was packaged up too (I got mine on Amazon prime, but they have loads more options on the birth bag website). Think I'll have to do the photos over a couple posts as it limits to just three photos per post.
So here it is, in the box and then the tote bag I picked (you can buy it without the tote too). Then bamboo nappies, baby wipes, muslin cloth and biodegradable nappy bags.

Continuing with the birth bag....
Maternity pads, bamboo reusable breast pads, slippers and fluffy socks.
A little drawstring bag with lip balm, hair band, hairbrush, wash cloth, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, soap.
A 'keepsake' baby's first outfit bag, hat, mittens, booties, and 'hello world' disc for photos.

It was £39 for everything including the bag, £29 if you didn't get the canvas tote bag. A bit of a luxury I suppose getting in this way, but it's given me peace of mind knowing I have the basics ready to go.
I'll add in some clothes, snacks and baby outfits. I'll also add in my calming spray, eye mask, headphones and battery powered candles that I might use as part of hypnobirthing.

MrsR16 · 21/09/2019 18:53

@BostonFern that looks amazing! I'm severely tempted to get one now! 😍

MrsEG · 21/09/2019 20:52

@ELW85 Ah I see that makes sense! Can they tell the babies sex also if looking at DNA?

@BostonFern That bag looks fabulous! So much in there. One thing my friends all recommended for the hospital bag was something called ‘Spritz for Bits’ they said it was a godsend for your lady parts especially if you need stitches and for that first post-birth wee!

So IKEA was a bit of a bust; very very few cots on show. Saw some nice wardrobes we think we’ll get though with loads and loads of storage. But in more exciting news, we bought our pram today!!!

ELW85 · 21/09/2019 21:08

@MrsEG - they can indeed! I feel better for going but I’m just keeping everything crossed until the results come through.
Ooh, what pram did you end up buying?

@LokiCat - good luck for the scan tomorrow!

MrsEG · 21/09/2019 21:16

@ELW85 Oh have you already had it done today?? Fabulous how long do the results take? I'm certain all will be fine :) we went with the Out n About Nipper Double in the end after agonising over two for ages, saw one in the sale in a place nearby - called and they had it in grey in stock too and could dispatch it this weekend! So I figured it was fate and we went for it ha!

ELW85 · 21/09/2019 21:46

@MrsEG - we did, they had space and I thought it was better to get it out of the way. Hopefully we’ll hear back at the end of next week. I’m sure everything is ok, but I just feel like I need the peace of mind 😊

Oh it’s fantastic that you got it in the sale! Definitely something that needed to be done!
Are you back to the drawing board for the other bits after the Ikea bust?

stormtrooperjulian · 21/09/2019 21:50

@BostonFern so glad the scan was clear! Birthing bag looks good

@Delilah7 he's so adorable

@MrsEG @MrsR16 how do you put up with the constant alarm snoozing? I'm really not a morning person and that would drive me to murder 😂

@thumper59 dampness is totally normal, I bought a set of reusable liners

@PippaPug How did it go at the EPU?

I've been in the early stages of labour for 24 hours now. So far labour is BORING.

MrsEG · 21/09/2019 21:56

@ELW85 Ah how exciting! Can't wait to find out what flavour you're having :)
Pretty much, yeah - annoyingly traditional nursery sets aren't great for us as we need two cots and a much bigger wardrobe so it's all a bit DIY! Going to a furniture warehouse tomorrow though to see if that gives us any ideas!

@stormtrooperjulian It's extremely annoying! I am very much a 'hit snooze once just to come round and then get up' kinda gal so it drives me insane!
Ahhhh how exciting!! I hope those waters break for you soon!! Sending very positive vibes!

MrsH497 · 21/09/2019 21:57

Ooh @stormtrooperjulian exciting!! Hope you're ok

Delilah7 · 22/09/2019 07:45

@stormtrooperjulian thank you!! Ahhhhhh how exciting 😍😍😍 it gets less boring the more com's you get! X

Delilah7 · 22/09/2019 07:45

@stormtrooperjulian cm's*

MrsR16 · 22/09/2019 08:11

@MrsEG ooh, pram buying's awesome!! That's a big item off your list now 😊

@stormtrooperjulian I don't mind too much about the alarm snoozing, but it doesn't take me too much to go back to sleep thankfully! Unless baby's having a right wriggle around... 😂 I hope you're doing ok! Keep us updated as and when you're able to and enjoy these last few hours just as you and DH (as much as you can 'enjoy' labour). Sending everything positive your way for a safe and healthy birth for you and baby! Xx

ELW85 · 22/09/2019 08:14

@stormtrooperjulian - so exciting!! I hope you’re doing well!

@MrsEG - thank you 😊 were so excited too. I’m convinced boy and DH is convinced girl but as long as they’re healthy, I don’t think anyone cares.
Enjoy your furniture warehouse trip; are there any online companies geared up towards twins or is it a case of having to buy twice?

@PippaPug - I hope the hospital went ok?

PippaPug · 22/09/2019 08:32

Thank you everyone @MrsEG @MrsR16 @ @BostonFern @stormtrooperjulian
@ELW85 for well wishes! Sorry my phone died and after being up the hospital for 3.5 hours on hard plastic chairs we went home and I needed to lie down as my back was so sore!

We arrived at 1pm but the consultant had just gone off to do a emergency c section for someone so we had to wait a while and then he was seeing patients in the other wards before us. My stomach pain was still quite strong and still hasn’t settled down after 16 hours or so. We saw the consultant who was lovely, confirmed that the babies are healthy and growing really well, and both of them were wriggling around, although we saw the scan, it was almost like it was zoomed in a bit too much as you couldn’t quite work out what body part was what 😂 saw a very cute pair of feet kicking away at one point.
As he continued to scan me he has noticed a fibroid, which he thinks has started growing due to the pregnancy as growing doubly as fast as there are two lots of hormones. He’s put it in my notes but he said the babies won’t be effected, and by the end of pregnancy it should be gone, so fingers crossed that’s what happens!

@MrsEG - sorry the furniture shopping wasn’t that good, the cot we like is from John Lewis, quite similar to the ikea ones but a bit studier as they are cot beds. Where else are you going to try and look?

@MrsR16 - did you end up having a nap in the end? Naps just get me through the day right now!

@BostonFern - those bags look really good and handy! Glad your feeling happier with your hospital bag now!

@stormtrooperjulien - hope labour is progressing well for you, maybe next time your post your have a little one in your arms!

@hope your NIPT went well and you get the results you want ☺️

ELW85 · 22/09/2019 08:36

@PippaPug - that sounds like a really long but very worthwhile trip! I’m so pleased everything is ok 😊
And thank you!

MrsR16 · 22/09/2019 08:43

@PippaPug oh goodness! I'm glad everything's ok though - it's always a relief 😊 I don't blame you for having a lie down! That can't have been comfortable... I kind of napped on the sofa yesterday afternoon which helped 😊 we'll see how today goes! Not sure I'll make it to this nearly new sale today, but we have a lunch booked with DH's family later so that'll be nice.

MrsEG · 22/09/2019 08:49

@MrsR16 I know, I’m so excited for it to arrive now!! It could be as early as Tuesday! We probably won’t build it for a good while though as it’ll take up far too much space haha! Have you got yours?

@ELW85 I had no inclination either way (but had a hunch on boy simply due to the old wives tale about sickness being less severe with boys!) and DH wanted ‘at least one’ boy - think he’s planning on starting his own rugby team! But honestly as you say; just hearing they were happy and healthy in there was the best news ever and knowing the sex was then just so exciting! I can’t wait for you to find out!
Annoyingly we’re just going to have to buy twice, or in our case buy a bit of a mish mash (were going to get a ‘normal’ wardrobe for more space). It has been fun researching it all though!

@PippaPug So pleased it all went well, did he say the fibroid could be causing pain? I do get some really painful days when bump is growing - if I sneeze or cough it takes my breath away at times.
We don’t even know where to start in a way haha! The only thing we really know is that the colour scheme is grey! We saw a pretty good grey wardrobe yesterday and then I’ve done some googling and seen some nice cot beds on wayfair in the sale. It’s just figuring out how it will all work together!

Happy Sunday all - anyone else’s DH up with the birds for the rugby World Cup?? At least with this time difference it’s all over by the time breakfast is done so I can still drag him to more furniture shops this afternoon!!

@stormtrooperjulian Hope everything is still going well!

MrsR16 · 22/09/2019 09:00

@MrsEG yes, we've got ours - it's sat at my in laws' house at the moment and will be until such time as we need it! 😊 probably a couple of weeks before I'm due if baby hasn't made an appearance by then. I need to get used to putting it up and down by myself and switching bits around, etc, without DH there

MrsEG · 22/09/2019 09:07

@MrsR16 Yeah that's the main thing isn't it, you don't need it until they arrive but you do need to know how to use it like a pro! I also want our dog to get used to seeing it in the house too. Like you say we'll probably assemble it a few weeks before babies are expected to arrive - and then figure out where it fits to store it during the day haha! Which one did you go for? There are so many lovely ones for one baba haha!

ELW85 · 22/09/2019 12:46

@MrsEG - haha! Well twins are a great start for that rugby team dream 😂
I can’t wait to find out either. Had a dream about the results last night so hopefully the next week flies over. 🤞🏻 For happy and healthy!
We’re doing the inverse and have just gotten in from brekkie and a shop. Might have bought some Hotel Chocolat treats. Might.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. I’m absolutely wiped out. Currently on the sofa browsing Christmas presents as my mother is starting shopping next week. God help us all 😂 xx

MrsEG · 22/09/2019 15:27

@ELW85 Oh I’m so jealous of the Hotel Chocolat treats! They are divine. I’ve done a lot of my Christmas shopping! Getting it out of the way early! I don’t buy for many these days so it hasn’t been too bad.

Today was a bust again; saw a lovely wardrobe and chest of drawers but they were very expensive. Back to the drawing board. I’m glad we started this early now! At this point the only thing I’m sure of is the prints I want to put on the walls 🙈
