Do you think girl or boy when you see this name....

Sacha....

Sorry not sure where to post this thread! I know I thought about names constantly for the last nine months so I thought I'd get most response here! DS2 born last Sunday, and as dh is Croatian we need a name that works in both english and europe. DS1 called Luka.

Sacha is known as a boys name in Europe but I don't want people constantly seeing his name and thinking he's a girl.

I'd really like to know if people's first impressions are that it is a girl's name, or if you knew it was a boys name.

Thanks!

Sacha would make me think boy as in Sacha Distel. Sasha would make me think girl's name

Trinityrhino · 30/07/2007 19:54

sorry, instantly makes me think girl
good luck with finding the right name

Ceolas · 30/07/2007 19:54

Honestly I didn't think boy or girl straight away. I did know it could be a boy's name too.

but I can't speak for the uneducated section of society

wildwoman · 30/07/2007 19:54

What pixiefish said

flowerybeanbag · 30/07/2007 19:54

same as pixiefish although if heard it only without seeing it written down would probably assume girl I'm afraid

aloha · 30/07/2007 19:54

I know Sacha is a boy's name and Sasha is a girl's name.

It makes me think girl, but also know a bloke named sacha so wouldnt think it was odd to name a boy sacha.

Its a lovely name think it suits both girls and boys, what matters most is that you like it!

MrsSnoek · 30/07/2007 19:56

OOO, I like juno!
Would prob assume girl for Sacha if it was spoken not written.

meandmyflyingmachine · 30/07/2007 19:57

Boy.

If it were a girl I would think it was spelt incorrectly.

Tamdin · 30/07/2007 19:59

me too mustrunmore. Unfortunately it doesn't work that well with our surname so don't think i can use it for another boy. feel free to steal

awayfromhome · 30/07/2007 19:59

I would have thought that it was just for a girl, until I got to know someone from Bulgaria - her ds is named Sacha.

Now would agree with pixiefish.

Rantmum · 30/07/2007 19:59

I love that name, but I can see your concern. I like it for a boy (like the Russian version) but do think it might be considered a bit "girly" in the UK.

What about Petar (said the UK way, spelled the croatian way?)

Or Grgur - you could use the English spelling Gregor

Or stick with Sacha it is really nice, but give him a different middle name that he could use in school if it ever became a problem (which it probably wouldn't, but you never know!)

I like the name Avery, do you think of it as a boys or a girls name?

mustrunmore · 30/07/2007 20:01

Jesus, no, I shant be using it! Or, if I did, I'd be on dodgy ground as dh had the snip a few weeks ago

MrsLukaKovac · 30/07/2007 20:02

I think of Avery as a boy Rantmum! I suppose he could be Aleksandar (Sacha short for Aleksandar) officially so that he could use that at school/when he's older looking for jobs etc if he wanted to.

Thanks for all replies!
