Do you think girl or boy when you see this name....

Sacha....

Sorry not sure where to post this thread! I know I thought about names constantly for the last nine months so I thought I'd get most response here! DS2 born last Sunday, and as dh is Croatian we need a name that works in both english and europe. DS1 called Luka.

Sacha is known as a boys name in Europe but I don't want people constantly seeing his name and thinking he's a girl.

I'd really like to know if people's first impressions are that it is a girl's name, or if you knew it was a boys name.

Thanks!

I love this name and would choose it if I ever have a boy

Bouquetsofdynomite · 30/07/2007 21:27

Sacha definitely looks like a boys' name written down. No doubt in speech you'd be extra enthusiastic with the masculine pronouns for the first few months, just to make suer everyone gets the message.

notnowbernard · 30/07/2007 21:38

Sacha - would think boy
Sasha - would think girl

notnowbernard · 30/07/2007 21:39

A lovely name, by the way!

Ds's middle name is Sacha

I love it and sometimes wish we had saved it for a first name if we have another child

mamama · 30/07/2007 21:45

Either - it's like Leslie, Ashley & Hilary

I know 2 girl Sashas & 1 boy Sascha (Brazilian)

id thimk it was a girls name but i like names that can be for boys or girls and this is one

pobletsmum · 30/07/2007 21:46

I've known 1 male and 1 female calld Sacha (and my sister's female dog, who is just gorgeous). Sorry this isn't much help for you.

Desiderata · 30/07/2007 21:48

I love that name, MrsLuka. And it really doesn't matter whether it's for a girl or a boy. It works well either way.

Personally, I always think of a boy when I hear Sacha, because of Sacha Distel.

Rantmum · 30/07/2007 22:25

Tamdin, the name I wanted to use for a girl was Avery, but I was sort of highjacking the thread.

aikigypsy · 31/07/2007 01:23

Both. I've known both a man and a woman names Sacha, and it's pretty firmly either-or in my mind.

bubblegumcheeks · 31/07/2007 02:35

First instinct is bot but can definatly be used for either sex. I had a boy in my class at school and his name was Sacha.

naturopath · 31/07/2007 03:26

Boy

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 31/07/2007 09:11

Boy. My girl cousin has the same name but spelt Sasha.

edam · 31/07/2007 09:13

Lots of people would think girl as it's more commonly used for a girl - people will generally hear it before they see it written down. But I think you can get over that hurdle. It's a lovely name and reflects his heritage.
