@MrsEG it's got to the point where I'm counting down the days until I start mat leave! I've never felt so undervalued and feel like I'm a massive inconvenience for the senior management team... 😢 it'll be fine, I'm sure, just difficult at the moment. My DH has been super awesome at letting me sound off at him! And also fuming because of what's been going on so he's all over it 😊

MrsEG · 09/08/2019 07:46

@MrsR16 That’s really awful, I’m so sorry to hear it - is it something that’s changed since you announced your pregnancy? As it’s completely not okay to be discriminated against in that case! I’m so glad DH is being so supportive. Look after yourself lovely x

MrsR16 · 09/08/2019 07:51

@MrsEG it seems to have changed! It used to be ok and I was getting on great! Ah well, I want to start mat leave 4 months today, so definitely on the countdown! 😂 xx

MrsEG · 09/08/2019 07:57

@MrsR16 Is there anyone you could make a complaint to, a HR department or something? I know it’s easier said than done though (I was bullied at an old job and never did anything; the person doing the bullying was really senior too, so I just quit!) At the very least 4 months now will fly by for you; my consultant said to me on Weds that getting to 12 weeks seems to take forever, then 12-20 drags a bit but she said from 20 weeks on it will seem to fly! So I really hope that’s the case for you too XX

MrsR16 · 09/08/2019 08:02

@MrsEG I'd love to speak to HR but it's them that's the main problem! The other stupid thing is that nothing has really happened - it's just the way I've been made to feel. You couldn't even write this stuff. Yeah you're absolutely right though - these weeks are flying by as it is! 😊 thanks for your support lovely! You guys make everything ten times easier xx

Bettythecat · 09/08/2019 08:22

@MrsR16 that's interesting about the Bugaboo- I quite like the look of them but haven't tried them out. How come you didn't like them? I already know my placenta is at the front 😫 which apparently means I'll feel the baby move a lot later! 😭

@Fivebyfive2 thank god it's Friday!! I've had a manic week at work! I've even got a call tonight that finishes at 8pm as the others are in New York 😔. Killer!! This weekend I've booked another scan as DHs treat- a bit apprehensive but also very excited. Then we've got some DIY to do in the house and I'm off to Kew Gardens with some girlfriends on Sunday. We were meant to be going to a party on Saturday but two of my friends have dropped out so we would only know the couple hosting and it's the other side of London- not sure I can face it without any booze!! What you up to?

@ELW85 I think people who have very exotic weddings will expect that some people can't come due to cost or logistical reasons so I think having a newborn is a very good reason. You definitely couldn't leave the baby in my opinion so the only option would be to bring it but it's a bit of a risk to commit to all that money now if when it comes to it you're just not ready to travel. As the others have said you can make a big fuss of her before and do a weekend away or something before the baby comes and then be with her in spirit!

@MrsR16 I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a tough time of it at work- how dispiriting for you. I've told me DH one of the reasons I want to wait to tell work is that unfortunately it's not always a positive experience for women when they tell work they are pregnant. Do you have a sympathetic manager you could speak to about it in confidence?

Bettythecat · 09/08/2019 08:35

@ELW85 I've also just thought that if she's getting married in Mexico is she doing the legal bit in the UK? If so, you could go to that and go for a lovely brunch or something before or after. You could even offer to be a witness or her MOH for the day?

purplefig · 09/08/2019 10:05

@MrsEG @PippaPug @Fuiseog @stormtrooperjulian @MrsR16 @Fivebyfive2 thanks all for the info re: prams. We'll definitely get down to mothercare and take a few for a spin in that case.

@ELW85 glad to hear it :)

What's everyone up to this weekend? We've got friends down for some of it, but other than that I plan on pottering about and doing a whole lot of nothing Grin.

ELW85 · 09/08/2019 11:09

@Bettythecat - the legal bit in the UK is a great idea! Thanks :)

@purplefig - so happy it’s Friday! I’ve got a rare weekend off with DH starting with a date night tonight! Lion King, mocktails and steak - oh my!
A weekend of your friends and pottering sounds good! Are you headed out anywhere?

MrsR16 · 09/08/2019 13:32

@Bettythecat the Bugaboo was really silly things, like the fact you have to have two hands to move the height of the handle up and down (unclip at the sides, move it and then re-clip it again!) whereas the Pioneer uses one hand. It might not be so difficult for some people, but my DH and I are quite different in height! 😂

My manager is the most senior person at my workplace running the entire business and would point me in the direction of HR haha! Joy of working in a small place...

MrsEG · 09/08/2019 14:33

@Bettythecat @MrsR16 @purplefig I think when it comes to prams it’s such a personal choice - what one woman loves another will hate! I honestly think definitely do your research but try and few and just see what feels right. Of all my friends not one of them has the same pram; off the top of my head I’ve seen them with Silver Cross, Egg, Mamas and Papas - it’s overwhelming with the amount of choice out there! Just think of poor old me lugging a double around from birth!

@ELW85 Sounds like a lovely weekend :) I just noticed I have a £7.50 credit on my Deliveroo account so there’s dinner sorted for me!

@purplefig Enjoy your quiet weekend! Sounds lovely. DH has planned a treasure hunt for us tomorrow and then Sunday I’m at my friends little girls 1st birthday - I’ve been to so many now and they are always such grand affairs! I feel like everyone says at first ‘we won’t do much they won’t even remember it’ but when the time actually comes... my nieces 1st birthday was unreal, she even had a personalised mermaid outfit 🙈

Big news, I ate a salad today! Starting to get twitchy about my scan on Weds, really excited but also just really really want everything to be a-okay!

cupcakesandglitter · 09/08/2019 16:08

Hi ladies 😊 celebrating my anniversary today - just got back from Safari park!! The drive was amazing however nausea hit me as soon as we got out to walk so decided to come back home instead 😂

@MrsEG @Bettythecat @MrsR16 @purplefig I've seen one called the Doona (company is Doona UK, in Manchester I believe) and it's a car seat that has wheels or something? Apparently super easy to take out instead of having to set up a pram... no idea it even existed until today 😂 x

Oooh @MrsEG enjoy takeout!! What're you having? Treasure hunt sounds lovely, hope you enjoy your day Xx

Have I missed anything? Xx

EltzBee · 09/08/2019 17:16

Hi ladies, glad to see you're all progressing well! Sorry been quiet lately - it's been a busy time, today I'm 37 weeks :o and now only have 1 more week left at work.

For those looking at prams, definitely go and try lots out and see what you actually like, and try different things. We ended up getting the Cosatto Wow which I love, it's light and easy to put up/take down and fit in the car, and was a lot cheaper than some of them (I couldn't believe the price of things like the iCandy and SilverCross ones, crazy!). We went and tried prams a few times to narrow down what we did and didn't like, a lot of it will come down to personal preference!

@MrsEG glad the twins are growing well! How many weeks are you now'? My DH is a twin (also non-identical, both boys) and I know their mum made sure they were in separate classes at school and things so they would make other friends. They're pretty different to each other in personality, and are no closer than just any other brothers really. I think DH would probably rather not share his birthday, he also shares it with his half sister (and his birthday is 4 days after our due date...uh oh! lol).

@MrsR16 my work have been useless at giving me enough to do since I said I was pregnant, the past few months have been so quiet workload wise. I gave up moaning about a month or so ago and just starting WFH more and taking advantage of the time to relax.

We have our NHS antenatal session tomorrow morning, which will hopefully be good. Baby is head-down and ready, just a waiting game now to see when the big arrival is!

Hope everyone is getting on okay :)

MrsR16 · 09/08/2019 18:32

@cupcakesandglitter that sounds like the best anniversary! I love safaris! Shame that you didn't feel great once walking though! Hope you feel ok now xx

@EltzBee great to hear from you!! Gosh. 37 weeks? Where's that gone? See, my work are the opposite - they're moaning that I'm not doing enough (even though I've not changed what I've been doing one bit) 😂 just can't win! Xx

cupcakesandglitter · 09/08/2019 21:55

@EltzBee 37 weeks?! How're you feeling? You'll get to meet your little one soon!!! Xx

@MrsR16 it was lovely, feeling better now - I've done nothing but pig out on the sofa... after all that talk of birthday cake, it was on offer in Asda... would've be rude not to 😂😂

What's everyone up to this weekend? Xx

Catching up with those from TTC thread 5!
PippaPug · 10/08/2019 06:28

Ben and Jerry’s birthday cake?! That sounds amazing!

After a day of travelling - 18 hours of it - I was so pleased to be home last night, even though 30 mins later I was feeling really unwell and had to go to bed, I think it was a combination of not eating a lot (couldn’t stomach the plane food and I didn’t pack enough snacks) so when I got home I felt so sick and was gagging at anything, exhausted from the day, dizzy, and had a headache but it wasn’t like my normal headache - my head just felt fuzzy and not right. Have woken this morning at 550 wide awake and feeling back to normal thank goodness!

I’m off for my blood test today and scan, also got my 12 week scan though the post for a few weeks time as well.

Can anyone tell me what happens at the 12 week scan? Trying to work out if Tom husband should come - as we have the private scan today, and the week of the scan is my birthday so my husband has already got one day off that week - and he is fast running out of annual leave (plus if he takes a day off to to go with me to hospital - all his work colleagues will know/assume why)

Got a mountain of washing to get through and start sorting the place out after the wedding but I also want to go and see our god daughters, so I know which one will win!

What is everyone’s plans this weekend?
Happy Saturday!

MrsEG · 10/08/2019 06:51

@cupcakesandglitter I live in Manchester and have seen those ‘car seats on wheels’ out and about! They look so small! I don’t think they’d be any good for longer walks though as you can’t keep a baby in a car seat for too long periods (I think)! Sorry to hear you felt rough at the safari!

@EltzBee I’m 11+3 today, last saw them at 9+5 and have my 12 week scan next week! That’s really interesting about making sure they are in different classes at school etc, it’s a really good idea. I read somewhere that it was a ‘twin bonus’ you only need to throw one birthday party but I think as they got older I’d be tempted to try and keep those separate too - I’d have hated to share mine! 37 weeks wow, officially full term! I hope these last few weeks go really smoothly for you :) How are you feeling?

@PippaPug I think with the 12 week scan they also screen for the babies health and do bloods etc, but if you’re having a private scan so close it would be totally up to you/him to miss it; I’ve already said to my DH as we’re having so many he can skip a few haha, but luckily they’ve fallen on days he’s been free so far.
Sounds like a long journey back! Hope you get some rest today :)

Bettythecat · 10/08/2019 07:12

@PippaPug at the 12 week scan as @MrsEG says they do the scan and take your bloods. The scan also does a load of anatomical checks so it sounds silly but the sonographer checks for the legs, arms, checks the brain etc and they would also normally do your nuchal fold measurement that day too. I really think if your DH can go then he should- it's a lovely scan and an important one. I've had both NHS scans and private ones and the 12 week scan was by far the most medically informative and detailed. My DH told his manager at work early on- the impact on the man (sad but true) is nowhere near as big as they don't take as much time off or have to be heavily pregnant so it is less sensitive to tell them I think. If you don't want to tell his work then don't forget that he is entitled to time off for appointments etc so he could just say he has a doctor or hospital appointment and come with you, or say there is a family emergency or he has to be with you for an appointment or something?! Xx

ELW85 · 10/08/2019 07:53

Morning all!
Lion King was amazing and the food after was lovely but had to send the steak back twice because apparently they don’t like cooking it ‘well done’ so don’t get the concept of none of it being pink!

@MrsEG - I love a Deliveroo credit! What did you end up going for?

@cupcakesandglitter - safari sounds great! I was really inspired after the film last night and so have told DH we need to go to Africa!

How’s everyone today?
I still haven’t had my 12 week scan letter through so think I’ve fallen through the NHS cracks.

MrsEG · 10/08/2019 07:59

@ELW85 Oh no! I haven’t eaten a steak in years to be fair but I can imagine restaurants being funny about fully cooking one! I’m saving my credit for tonight but going to play it safe with a trusty burrito again!
Have you had your booking in with the midwife? My 12-week scan was booked there and then. Maybe give the midwife a call if so and see where it is.

ELW85 · 10/08/2019 08:07

@MrsEG - burrito!! What a brilliant idea :) I might make Mexican food tonight!

I’ve had my booking appointment (super early) and I chased my midwife for it a couple of weeks ago, but nothing. I’ll ring them on Monday.
I think they maybe wanted to see how my early scan went before booking the 12 week one, but in my head I guess they should have processed it after that!

cupcakesandglitter · 10/08/2019 10:42

Ahhh Thankyou @MrsEG that solves that question (and saves me a trip up to Manchester 😂) @ELW85 now I want a burrito 🤤🤤 xx

@PippaPug you HAVE to try it 🤤 xx

Officially 6 weeks today wahoooo, boobs hurt when I got out of bed this morning and I was bloody starving - still waiting for ms to kick in! X

ELW85 · 10/08/2019 10:46

@cupcakesandglitter - I think we’re all going to end up with Mexican food later 😂
If it makes you feel any better, my nausea didn’t kick in until late week 6 and then it would be quite noticeable a few times a day. I feel ok today so far, but guessing it fluctuates?! Xx

cupcakesandglitter · 10/08/2019 10:53

@ELW85 I think so too 😂 DH has planned a cinema night tonight though so I'm unsure as to what we'll eat... and how I'll stay awake through two films!!! Was mega pleased yesterday, managed to stay awake all day without napping (was in bed at 10.50 which was a late night for me!!) that does make me feel a bit better Thankyou, my mum and her sisters all had HG and apparently it's genetic so not really looking forward to it kicking in tbh 😂😩 from what I've read symptoms do fluctuate massively - being pregnant isn't all rainbows like I'd naively thought before TTC!! xx

MrsEG · 10/08/2019 11:02

@cupcakesandglitter Ha, don’t wish for sickness!! Don’t worry, HG isn’t genetic - my sister had it from 5 weeks to 30 weeks whereas I have twice the hormones and haven’t had it, haven’t even been sick. I’ve felt terrible, but snacking and SeaBands were enough for me whereas my poor sis was in hospital on drips more often than I can remember.

@ELW85 @cupcakesandglitter Ha I can highly recommend a good burrito! I’ve had really strong aversions to vegetables for weeks but I can eat mushrooms and avocado in a burrito, plus it’s full of beans for more nutrients! Enjoy!
