@BabySquid Fab pic! So pleased all went well. Enjoy the party this weekend, double celebrations!

MrsR16 · 02/08/2019 17:42

@BabySquid that's an incredible picture!! It's such a relief when they say everything's ok, isn't it? Enjoy your party!! Xx

ELW85 · 02/08/2019 20:25

Evening ladies! I hope you’ve had a lovely Friday.
I got in from work and basically passed out on the sofa for a few hours, after an afternoon of feeling pretty nauseous - it’s actually really nice to ‘feel’ it though. I’m sure I won’t be saying that in a couple of months 😂

@BabySquid - congratulations on the great news from the scan, what a wonderful pic!

@stormtrooperjulian - thanks for the advice, it’s nice to have lots of experience here to keep me in check!

Fivebyfive2 · 02/08/2019 23:23

@BabySquid, so glad all went well at your scan! Xxx

Had a bit of a mare this evening, the gas people left without putting our supply back on, same with half the street apparently!! Hopefully they'll sort it tomorrow...

Anyone got weekend plans? Xx

MrsEG · 03/08/2019 08:44

Morning ladies!
Stumbled upon this this morning - I enjoyed it so just sharing the love! www.refinery29.com/en-gb/tips-for-new-mums?utm_medium=ukpost&utm_source=facebook.com

(Particularly like the bit about taking some time before visitors - DH was under the impression his folks who live in Ireland could come over the week before and stay with us for two weeks, ohhhh how I laughed in horror)

I have the most awful hormone headache today; may be another day in bed for me! Woke to really aching boobs so think it’s just a big hormone dump. The absolute glamour of it all!

@Fivebyfive2 Oh what a pain! Was the full supply off or just your boiler? I had to manually reset our boiler once in similar circumstances - it was bloody terrifying but I felt like such a boss afterwards!! Hope it bets sorted soon. We have no real plans; supposed to be visiting friends and their new baby later but I just feel dreadful - tempted to just send DH on his own!

@ELW85 Hope you’re feeling a bit better today! Definitely take it easy; I don’t think I’ve done much other than walk the dog every other day from 6 weeks. Sometimes even that is sooo shattering. I have booked on to a pregnancy Pilates course which starts next week but even now I’m wondering if I’m up to it yet! I’ll give the first session a go though and hope I don’t fall asleep on the mat. All the girls here have said you get all your energy back in the second tri so I’m just waiting for that to kick in!

ELW85 · 03/08/2019 10:44

Morning!

Feel pretty sick today but forced myself to have some granola. Just finished watching Mrs Wilson and it reduced me to tears, so clearly very hormonal!
How’s everyone doing?

@MrsEG - my mother informed me she would be taking March off and I couldn’t hide my horror. I was really clear it wasn’t happening!!
I’ll definitely be taking the gym easy, especially when I don’t feel like eating much. Pregnancy Pilates sounds good though :)

MrsEG · 03/08/2019 10:50

@ELW85 At least you can still stomach granola! That’s a good thing :) I feel so woefully unhealthy on my diet of beige!
Yeah definitely chat to your midwife about exercise, they seem to totally encourage it though just at a much lesser intensity. I am high-risk so can’t continue any of my normal activities but yoga, swimming and walking are all okay - I’ve just had no energy for any of it. If you’re still feeling okay and can get to the gym then go for it; the main thing is modifications and extra rest, etc. But any gym instructor worth their salts will know that (DH is a PT and owns a gym - he’s hated that I can’t train, he had a whole plan sorted!)

Oh God, I’d die! Don’t get me wrong of course they can visit and I’m so excited they want to be around to help etc but no one is moving in, and I’m certainly setting some boundaries! When my sister was in labour she told us all in no uncertain terms ‘we’ll just let you know when she’s here’ - went right over my Mothers head who turned up no less than 3 times to the hospital just to sit in her car waiting 30 mins for a text and then driving home again!!! She’s bloody loopy.

ELW85 · 03/08/2019 11:08

That makes sense to be fair; to do what you can at a lower intensity.
My PTs have been great with giving me alternative exercises to do in classes so I can still go, just substitute jerky things like Devil Press with a chest press, etc.
Haha! I bet DH was looking forward to that plan - needs must though, and you’re doing exactly what you should be :)

Your mother sounds like mine! Again, of course I want her around but I need my space and we don’t have the easiest of relationships anyway, so now more than ever she needs to listen to me.
I reckon DH will be my bodyguard at the door of the hospital though, haha!

MrsEG · 03/08/2019 11:57

@ELW85 I found this link normal, non-scaremongery and useful when looking in to exercise initially - www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/keeping-fit/fitness-matters/ground-rules.aspx
Devil Press - do you so CrossFit? My friend does even at a competitive level - she trained all through her pregnancy (she even managed to do modified burpees, like an insane woman - if there was ever a good excuse not to do those for 9 months!)
Yeah; initially I thought I’d really miss training and was a bit gutted by it but there’s no way I’d have been able to these last couple of weeks even if I’d wanted to. Like you say I just need to trust my doctors and listen to my very tired body!

Yep - I’ve told DH that he’ll be making sure everyone stays well away! In a perfect world we wouldn’t even tell anyone til they arrived but we’ll need someone to keep an eye on the dog. I’m sure there’s a way around it somehow though haha!

daisiesandpeonies · 03/08/2019 13:38

@ELW85 you'll have to give her a full task list every day - shopping, hoovering etc to try and keep her from taking control! I'm grateful I've got my mum nearby and she's great in many ways but sometimes she can wade in. @MrsEG MIL around for two weeks before due date he can't be serious!😱 Your mother in the Hospital car park 😂 She sounds hilarious and very similar to mine 🙈

ELW85 · 03/08/2019 15:06

@MrsEG - I do do CrossFit and circuits. It’s pretty intense and I’ve also been doing modified burpees (the week before last!) thanks for the link - I’ll definitely do my research before I go back next week!
I think that’s a great point, when you put in context what you want to do vs listening to your body, there can be only one winner!

How are you feeling?

@daisiesandpeonies - what a brilliant idea about the task list!
I know she’s super excited and I don’t want to ruin that for her; just feeling a bit overwhelmed with the threat of her being here EVERY DAY 😂

MrsEG · 03/08/2019 15:55

@daisiesandpeonies @ELW85 My mum is crazy - I’m glad my sister has had hers first; they’ve had some difficult moments along the way but got some good rules set now (main ones, she has to let her know if she’s coming over and can’t just turn up [she did this a lot and then felt put out when sis didn’t like it]; no ‘advice’ about how and what Sis is doing or she’ll get kicked out! Almost had WW3 over Mums ‘opinions’ on the meals sis weaned my niece on 😐) so I’ll just try and get her to stick to the same. DH does joke though that we’ll look outside one day and she’ll have pitched a tent in the garden ‘Just let me know when you need me!’ she’s fairly newly retired and just has too much time on her hands!!

I’m feeling a smidge better after a nap just now - I woke drenched in sweat so hope I’ve gotten some of this fever from the UTI out of my system. Not moving today though; DH went to visit the baby and he’s under strict instruction to not come home without ice cream.

BabySquid · 03/08/2019 16:07

Oh my gosh @MrsEG & @ELW85 my mum was the same!! Just before we told them we're expecting my mum and dad decided they were moving further north, so when we told them my mum said that they'd come down like a week or two before my due date and stay for a few weeks (they have a caravan so would stay in that) but I was like 😧 erm... love you and all but not a chance!!!
Having spoken to my friends who have an 8 month old, they said to not lot anyone near until like maybe at least a week after you've popped!!

daisiesandpeonies · 03/08/2019 19:33

@ELW85 Task list for mother works well for us. I’ve found with the pregnancy so far that if I get in touch with her FIRST before she has a chance to randomly turn up, then ask her to e.g bring me some bits from the shop, or that I’m craving her plum jam (she made it straight away and offered me enough jars to stock a stall at a fete 🙈), or that I’d like her to do the ironing because I can’t manage the smell, etc etc, then she seems really happy to be asked. She gives me a nagging while she’s doing whatever it is, but with a smile 😊. If I don’t get in touch with her then she’ll come round anyway and fuss about looking for problems, going on about the state of the house or whatever and we end up rowing. I think she wants to feel needed and appreciated, and when she doesn’t that’s when she starts to go bonkers. Bless her, she drives me NUTS, but I know it’s all out of love and I’d be devastated if she wasn’t here to share this with us.

ELW85 · 03/08/2019 19:37

@MrsEG - how are you feeling and did you get your ice cream?

@BabySquid - haha, my reaction would be the same as yours! DH and I had a little chat tonight and we’re going to put some ground rules in place because I can’t cope with MiL and my mother pretty much moving in.
I’d prefer if they weren’t at the hospital but not sure how much they’ll listen!

BabySquid · 04/08/2019 06:53

So guys... I had the most amazing party yesterday and it was great to tell our friends all at once. MiL cried again and so did some of her friends!!
But I have to brag and tell you all that I have THE BEST EVER HUSBAND!!! Look at this cake!! (Alice is my fave book, and films of all time and if we have a girl... Alice 🥰)
Hope you all had a lovely Saturday. I'm off up to Northallerton today to see my 'auntie not really an auntie'!

ELW85 · 04/08/2019 07:57

@daisiesandpeonies - sorry we must have x posted yesterday!
Totally right though, I want them both to get to experience it, it just had to work for everyone and I’m sure it will 😊

@BabySquid - wow!! Look at that cake! Fantastic- I hope you had an amazing time?
DH is from Darlington so not too far from Northallerton (although we’re in Newcastle now).

Fivebyfive2 · 04/08/2019 08:03

@BabySquid, that is a masterpiece!! Alice is a good name 🙂

I'm reading with interest all the ways parents and in laws can be ott... Can definitely relate!!

We've got the Mothercare event this morning, so excited! Will let you know how it goes...

Ladies, some reassurances please! The last week or so I've felt regular tickly type sensations, like a ladybird walking across the skin, but on the inside. My mw said this was probably the baby! Friday I didn't feel anything and yesterday only the faintest thing, wasn't even sure it was that. I know it's early to feel anything (17 weeks) and they've probably just moved somewhere where it is hard to feel, but I can't help be a bit worried! But I'm also worried about calling anyone about it in case I'm that head case pregnant woman calling over the slightest thing?! Do I need to chill?? Xxx

MrsEG · 04/08/2019 08:42

@Fivebyfive2 My understanding is that regular movements are from 24 weeks onwards; from 16-24 weeks you should start to feel movements but it won’t be constant and everyday at first due to their small size. Saw this link which I hope puts you at ease: www.tommys.org/pregnancy/baby-moving-less/reporting-reduced-fetal-movements

I’m sure you’ll become much more aware as the weeks go on but baba is still so teeny :)

@BabySquid What a fabulous cake! I also love Alice, we have loads of Alice stuff in the house! So pleased you had an amazing day!

@ELW85 I actually felt awful in the end last night (but got my ice cream!) but feel much better today, all the sleeping must have worked! Have a real craving for a burrito so heading to get some for lunch later!!

Hope everyone is having a fab sunday!

MrsEG · 04/08/2019 08:50

@Fivebyfive2 Here you go; found another link specific to your weeks gestation - looks like what you are experiencing is fine :) www.livestrong.com/article/513792-seventeen-weeks-pregnant-not-much-movement-of-the-baby/

cupcakesandglitter · 04/08/2019 09:06

Glad you're feeling better today @MrsEG xx

@Fivebyfive2 ooh enjoy the event, hopefully you get the discount you want too! At my MW appointment she said it's normal to feel just irregular flutters at first but then as baby gets bigger you'll start to see a pattern xx

Omg @BabySquid that is an impressive cake!! Alice is a lovely name 🥰 xx

@BabySquid @daisiesandpeonies @ELW85 my mum is the same 🙄 DH and I have spoken about ground rules too - not sure how I'm going to tackle the "I want to be there when you're in labour" talk, eeeeeek 😬 xx

Had the best birthday present this morning (also pregnancy has turned me into a morning person and although it's nice, I can't get a lie in 😭😭) did a digi on Monday and it said 1-2, today I got my 3+ 😊😊😊 happy Sunday!! Xx

ELW85 · 04/08/2019 09:16

@MrsEG - oh no! But pleased you’re feeling better now 😊
What ice cream did you get? Amazing shout on a burrito! I woke up feeling kind of nauseous but more that I’m just not hungry for anything. It’s odd!

@cupcakesandglitter - happy birthday and congratulations on the 3+! Xx

MrsEG · 04/08/2019 09:23

@cupcakesandglitter Happy birthday!! My mum asked sis if she could be in the room, sis just said no straight up. She just said she wanted that experience to be just for her and DH (Mum would just completely take over). Other than a few guilt trippy ‘Oh, such-a body had her mother in the room for all her births’ comments she was actually fine with it!!

@ELW85 We got a new Ben & Jerry’s called Love Is and oh my, if you ever see it anywhere treat yourself! Browned butter ice cream with salted caramel 🥰
My nausea was very like that at first; I could never tell if I felt sick or starving. Felt like I was constantly absolutely ravenous all day to the point I felt sick. I just snacked through it, that seemed to work! And best foods were very plain. But everyone’s different! These days I definitely just feel sick haha, but the worst of it has only really been from 8-9 weeks.

cupcakesandglitter · 04/08/2019 09:32

@ELW85 thankyou xxx

@MrsEG oh that sounds amazing, I need to try it! 🤤🤤 my favourite flavour atm is birthday cake oh my god 🤤 I'm pretty sure I'll do the same, we do just want it to be the two of us - I know my mum is going to kick up a storm though!! My mum can be quite difficult, MIL has given me money for an early scan as my birthday present, mentioned it to my mum earlier in the week and she thought it was a waste of money etc, I calmly explained its my baby and I'll make my own decisions and she hit the roof 😂😂 she found it offensive that I called it "my" baby. She does have some attachment issues with me being the oldest though 😂😂 x

cupcakesandglitter · 04/08/2019 09:36

Oh also I can't stomach sweet potato fries anymore ☹️ this makes me super sad
