@Crossfitgirl how exciting 😭 glad you're feeling good and enjoying it right now!! X

Fivebyfive2 · 02/08/2019 09:57

@cupcakesandglitter, totally get it hun! There were still a fair few of The Originals on their as I was graduating, but still the influx of newbies threw me a little! It's nice that keeps evolving though 🙂 I'm sooo glad we have this thread though, I tried to join a 'due jan' thread but got totally lost on there!! It's so great we all 'know' each other on here and I think the different stages really helps for advice etc. Love all you girls 😀❤️

Crossfitgirl · 02/08/2019 10:01

Thanks cupcakes :-) also on the superstition. I bought loads of baby stuff ages before baby was born. I got a little fluffy sheep toy with a bell in it and took it to the 12 and 20 week scans, I bought the going home outfit really early on, and basically all our furniture including the cot, crib, pram etc has been in the house and all put together for weeks now.

It's easy to say now that buying something isn't going to make you miscarry, but I remember the worry being quite real when I was earlier on. I would say do what you like, if you want to get things and be excited then do! If you're not quite comfortable doing that yet, then don't!
But no point worrying about should I or shouldn't I. Go with your gut. Our instincts are amazing and you'll know when the time is right for you.
I found that once the pram was up (I think I was somewhere in the 2nd trimester) it opened the floodgates and i didn't care about all the other stuff being there and going up.

Xxx

BabySquid · 02/08/2019 10:40

@Carley321 my husband stopped drinking caffeine, and boom.. 15 months trying and that was all it took, I didn't change anything that month!!

So guys it's my scan at 12 and I can't help but have a bad feeling, I have nothing to warrant this bad feeling except a few short sharp pains yesterday and the lightest of brown discharge this morning. Could barely sleep last night. I'm so nervous. I think I'm just overthinking. 😩😩

Carley321 · 02/08/2019 10:53

Thank you @BabySquid the length of time I’m hearing as already give me some positive hope. He’s almost stopped with caffeine just the odd here and there. Same as me. Also cut right back on alcohols although we have occasions where a good few are just what’s needed for sanity.

I hope everything is ok. If it helps my SIL had something similar and that was noting to worry about, she said that brown discharge wasn’t to much of a concern and as long as it’s not bright red all should be fine But to always get checked. Good luck with your scan x

TrashKitten10 · 02/08/2019 11:14

@Fivebyfive2 True about an ikea meltdown! I think my mistake was going it alone, DH and I go against the grain when it comes to flat packs causing arguments and we instead become quite the efficient team. We fight like cat and dog at other times but give us a flat pack and we become a harmonious unit haha.

@Crossfitgirl Try to focus on the calm and not the storm Grin Can't believe you'll have a baby in your arms in three weeks of less! Have you had any signs things are on their way yet?

@cupcakesandglitter Tell me about it! It doesn't seem five minutes ago I was wishing myself towards 5 weeks, then 6, then our 8 week scan. Now the weeks are flying by! I love this thread too, the monthly ones are nice but I enjoy that on here we have the wisdom of those further along and the excitement of those just finding out. And that we are all first timers together :)

@BabySquid I think the bad feeling is normal anxiety but it will all completely disappear when you see your little one wriggling around on the screen ☺️ update us with a picture as soon as you can!

purplefig · 02/08/2019 12:33

@LikeTheFruit oh yes, crank up the lavender!

@MrsR16 ahh that is the definition of ironic!

@MrsEG your bump is just gorgeous! You'll definitely have to crack out the baggy t-shirts this weekend. Raid DH's wardrobe? It's great you've got a twin clinic you can go to and find out all the specifics, I bet not many people are clued up on multiples. Sorry to hear you had such a rough night, but I've got to say - that sounds like the best sick day ever. You enjoy!

@stormtrooperjulian ahhh nearly there then. You've done so well to put up with it during pregnancy!! Will be so worth it.

@Carley321 the month I conceived I did loads of things differently, so it's hard to pinpoint what worked. I started exercising again, started acupuncture, started pregnacare conception vitamins and drank a daily fertility smoothie (www.babble.com/pregnancy/fertility-smoothie-lori-bregman/).

@Crossfitgirl that bump! Fingers crossed the jiggling pays off. Otherwise it's time for curry and nipple stimulation Grin

@ELW85 sorry to hear work and home life and a bit crazy at the moment, hope it all settles down soon.

@Fivebyfive2 some people are so weird with their superstitions and it's fine, but not when it affects other people. It's pretty unfair of her to put that worry in your head, especially given your history. All in all, I think it's pretty unkind of her to be honest and she should have bit her tongue. I'm pretty stubborn, plus I'd want to nip this controlling behaviour of hers in the bud ASAP so I'd just say something along the lines of "It's really kind of you to offer to buy us a pram. There's likely going to be a deal on the one we want this weekend, so we're planning to get it then. I don't believe in superstitions though, so we'll just keep it at ours which is where it's needed."

@cupcakesandglitter @Fivebyfive2 totally agree - it's so nice seeing so many familiar names! I joined a Feb group and have got lost already haha. And like @TrashKitten10 says, it's so nice having a range of pregnancies on here.

Exciting day today - my 20 week scan appointment has just come through, and the results from my 12 week scan are in and it's all low risk. Feeling really good! Also some of our friends have given us some of their old newborn stuff which made me cry with happiness. Ahhh hormones.

What's everyone's weekend plans?

ELW85 · 02/08/2019 12:47

So this is probably a stupid question, but if mozzarella has been processed into a grated form, is it ok to eat (think the pre-grated supermarket bags), even if you don’t know it’s pasteurised?
I’m being SO careful with everything I eat at the moment, so wanted to get some thoughts.

@purplefig - thank you and congratulations on your scan results! How exciting the 20 week appointment is through 😃

MrsEG · 02/08/2019 12:49

@Fivebyfive2 Yeah, it’s very strange. I seem to only hear of it in the older generations and sometimes I wonder if it all stems from how pregnancy was treated back then (Mum told me her Doctor didn’t even consider her pregnant until she had missed two periods, so already 2 months along, and they didn’t have all the scans and care we do now so she says she never really ‘believed’ it until she felt the baby move, which would be quite far along). Luckily I think it’s a superstition that will die out! Our generation are much more prepared and organised :)

@Crossfitgirl Glad to hear you’re feeling fab!! So excited for you. Hope she comes nice and close to her due date and doesn’t keep you waiting!

@BabySquid Please don’t fret lovely - scan anxiety is really normal. Cramping is too, I get it frequently and really notice it with two - it’s just your uterus stretching out apparently. Enjoy the scan and hope you get some fab pics xx

@purplefig I’m already in DH’s comfies! My leggings feel really tight on my belly now. Sis said the Asda maternity leggings are great and cheap so gonna try and grab some this weekend.
Ah that is such fab news about your scan and results! It will all start to fly by now :)

MrsEG · 02/08/2019 12:53

@ELW85 Please please please don’t fret about food. Keep this link bookmarked and it’s the only one you need - www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/
Mozzarella is perfectly safe even grated. I actually read once that it’s incredibly to find unpasteurised mozzarella and is considered quite the delicacy, so unlikely to be in a grated bag in a supermarket. You’ll go mad googling food - just keep that NHS link in mind and enjoy :)

MrsEG · 02/08/2019 13:00

@ELW85 Also, I don’t say that to be harsh - I say it as someone who watched her very anxious sister go through 9 months without eating an egg, anything that could possible contain undercooked egg (even brownies - didn’t matter when I told her they’d been in the oven 30 mins, no egg could survive that...), wouldn’t eat a piece of chocolate, had a panic attack when she had a Diet Coke that wasn’t caffeine free... There’s a really fab book called Expecting Better which I loved and recommend which explains the science behind where the food restrictions come from - it made me way way more relaxed about it all!

purplefig · 02/08/2019 13:02

@ELW85 thank you! I know, it's all been very efficient after the initial mix-up at the beginning.

@MrsEG haha I don't blame you! Am I right in thinking you've got a big, hairy dog too? That's the only thing that puts me off leggings - they seem to attract pet hair like crazy.

purplefig · 02/08/2019 13:04

@ELW85 cannot agree with @MrsEG more on reading Expecting Better. You will come away from it feeling way less stressed and quite empowered. I was worried about drinking half a cup of coffee before that...!

MrsEG · 02/08/2019 13:23

@purplefig A massive, constantly shedding white Husky! I usually avoid black leggings like the plague as a result haha, but I just need the comfort so bad!

ELW85 · 02/08/2019 13:28

Thank you both, @MrsEG and @purplefig! I’ll Amazon Expecting Better now and have bookmarked the NHS link :)
Much appreciated! Xx

MrsR16 · 02/08/2019 13:37

@Fivebyfive2 my pram is at the MILs - I was told by both her and my mum that we weren't to have the pram at ours before we needed it (which I'm very grateful for - it's a huge box!). However, I can totally see your point and think it should be up to you. We got our pram when I was about 14 weeks because it was an offer we couldn't refuse!

@MrsEG they really are! Mine is super cuddly (and has been even more so since I got pregnant!) I'm not sure how he'll react when he ends up being kicked by the baby though 😂

@Crossfitgirl I am so excited for you!!

@cupcakesandglitter I blame hormones for absolutely everything at the moment! 😂 that's what they're there for, right?

BabySquid · 02/08/2019 13:38

So guys, my fretting earlier was all for naught!! 12 week scan was great, still measuring at 12+4 so due date is still 10/02 @purplefig were still twinning 😃
Apparently it had one arm above it's head... that's how I sleep!! And was kicking it's little leggies 🥰🥰

Catching up with those from TTC thread 5!
purplefig · 02/08/2019 13:56

@MrsEG aahhh a relative has a husky and the shedding can be next level! Grey?!? I have two pets, both shed, both different colours. Plus I work from home. So I'm basically a yeti.

@ELW85 excellent plan! :)

@BabySquid fabulous news - have you got a serious case of the Friday feeling now?! Cute it was sleeping like you. And yay for still being due date twins! Grin

stormtrooperjulian · 02/08/2019 14:21

@Crossfitgirl wow only one week til your due date, I'm glad you're feeling good at the moment

@MrsEG enjoy your sofa day

@Fivebyfive2 I'd be putting my foot down and making it clear that I'm not going to be swayed by silly superstition, I'm very stubborn though and things like that just make me dig my heels in. Our pram has been in our living room since around 25 weeks, took the opportunity to buy it in a sale

@purplefig so glad you got the low risk result, must be a relief to have that out of the way

@ELW85 try not to overthink to much what you can or can't eat, you'll just end up anxious all the time. I've carried on as normal other than no alcohol. There is minimal evidence for any of the pregnancy diet 'rules' that people come out with and every country has different guidelines.

@MrsEG @purplefig I have 3 cats, everything I own is covered in fur 😂

@BabySquid lovely scan pic!

BabySquid · 02/08/2019 14:23

@purplefig oh god yeah! All the rest of the girls in the office also don't wanna do any work now. (Plus I've nothing to do this aft so my remaining hour and half is going to go so slowly 🙁)

TrashKitten10 · 02/08/2019 14:39

@BabySquid Yay! Lovely photo ☺️

BostonFern · 02/08/2019 14:57

Thank you for the kind comments about bump!

Great news on the low risk result @purplefig

So pleased your scan went well @BabySquid , lovely scan photo too

daisiesandpeonies · 02/08/2019 15:39

@BostonFern you look in great shape and fab bump @Crossfitgirl you look wonderful too and can't believe she's nearly here!!!
@cupcakesandglitter I really like seeing come of the longer term TTC crew on here too - can't believe that thread has been going as long as I've been trying!
@BabySquid bless him/her you must be so excited! Have you told any more people today?
@Fivebyfive2 my mother is a nightmare with stuff like this - she got cross with me for buying a what to expect when you're expecting book at 6 weeks and when I tried to show her my nursery Pinterest board she went nuts and said I'm not to do as much as paint until the baby is here 🙄 I'll just ignore her I think, or possibly keep things in boxes ready to be refunded if something awful happens.

stormtrooperjulian · 02/08/2019 15:46

@daisiesandpeonies your mum wants you to wait til you have a newborn baby before you start organising a nursery etc?!? Doesn't seem like the best time to be doing things....

BabySquid · 02/08/2019 16:33

@daisiesandpeonies yeah I told the girls at work, a couple already suspected, and my boss already knew obvs just in case. Telling our friends tomorrow at my 30th birthday shindig. I'm really excited.
