@MrsEG fantastic news and scan photos! Really pleased everything is progressing well for you.

purplefig · 29/07/2019 12:13

@MrsEG amazing news and amazing scan photos! Hi twinnies! Oooo I'm just so excited for you!

@BostonFern thanks - it's been 1.5 years as we bought an absolute shocker that needed everything doing. Mad, but it's so satisfying bringing an unloved, sad house back to life Grin .

MrsEG · 29/07/2019 12:18

@BostonFern @purplefig Thanks both :) It’s so exciting! Can’t wait for the 12 week scan now. The sonographer made a comment like ‘you can tell you’re having twins’ when she saw my massive belly when I lay down - it’s starting to get really hard to hide!
Enjoy all of your DIY - we really need to start thinking about that now - the room we’d always had earmarked for a nursery isn’t nearly big enough for two cots!

MrsR16 · 29/07/2019 13:19

@MrsEG they're awesome pictures! I'm so pleased that everything's going ok for you! Xx

daisiesandpeonies · 29/07/2019 14:18

@MrsEG hello twins 😍 they're great scans. What do you think you'll do about the nursery? They can share for a long time even if they're different sex.

MrsEG · 29/07/2019 14:22

@MrsR16 Thank you lovely :)

@daisiesandpeonies Thanks! We have 3 bedrooms so the current guest bedroom we think we’ll move in to, and make our current bedroom the twins room - it’s the biggest in the house, so as you say they can share it for years, plus it will have more space for toys etc. It’s also the furthest room from the neighbours house which seems fair to them haha! I’m sure there’ll be lots of sleepless nights in those early months!

TrashKitten10 · 29/07/2019 15:47

@Fivebyfive2 We've just cleared out our nursery and thought the same thing about acquiring so much rubbish. We've not even been in the house a year either. I blame DH being such a hoarder sentimental person. We did a 'stocktake' too, over 20 vests in size 0-3 and Im only 25 weeks, I could open a baby clothes shop!

@purplefig How was the scan and eye appointment?

@MrsEG Aww, lovely picture of your twins ☺️ good idea giving them the biggest room, setting it all up will be great fun!

Day at home for me today, yay summer holidays! Off to my first aqua natal class later which I'm really excited about. A bit nervous also as I'm not the most confident of people to start conversation with strangers, especially when my bump- and probably my pubes as I can no longer see them- are likely bursting out of my too small swimming costume 😂 Must buy a maternity one! Tomorrow our nursery furniture is arriving so I can't wait to start getting that set up. Anyone got any nursery inspiration pictures? I think it was @Delilah7 with a painted tree in hers which I am stealing :)

Bettythecat · 29/07/2019 16:48

Hi lovelies- hope you're all well? Sorry I've been so absent on here lately- I was feeling so anxious at the beginning that I needed to take a step back from it all. However- I'm now 13 weeks (today!) and had our 12 week scan last week. Baby was doing some crazy backflips and everything looking great so I'm feeling super positive and excited!

@MrsEG I'm probably late to the party but OMG twins!! How amazing I'm so pleased for you!

@cupcakesandglitter hugest congratulations lovely- all the waiting was worth it!

Wondering if you've all had experience of unwanted opinions? Was with my best friends yesterday and when I told one of them I was thinking of a home birth I got a horrified look and the comment "I think you should think very carefully about that"- as though I hadn't been thinking about it at all 🙄. Then when I said I was going to look at prams after our 16 week scan I got very grave expressions and the comments "that's the last thing you should buy so you shouldn't buy it then" and "yes you can't buy it then- I'm very superstitious about it". Neither of them have babies of their own! It makes me feel I can't tell them anything about it and it's ruining it for me! Thoughts?!

TrashKitten10 · 29/07/2019 17:08

Lovely to see you back and glad that everything is going well. I think that women's reproductive systems are just seen as everybody's business, annoying as it is. Can you try to just laugh off your friends' opinions 'oh I don't believe in all that superstition nonsense!'. Or just be honest and say you're feeling a bit emotional with hormones and it feels that everything you tell them has a negative reaction.

TrashKitten10 · 29/07/2019 17:09

Sorry meant to tag you in that @Bettythecat :)

MrsEG · 29/07/2019 17:15

@Bettythecat Good to hear from you! Ah how lovely that you have such a wriggler :)
A lot of my friends have babies already and the general consensus is be prepared for a lot of unsolicited and unwanted advice, and just smile and nod. Most of the time it comes from a good place of wanting to help, but like you say, only you know what will be best for you so just take it all with a pinch of salt and smile and change the subject! I’ve already had looks of horror from mum and sis when I’ve suggested I’d quite like to try and breastfeed the twins even if just for a month or so; suddenly they both became twin experts and told me I’d never manage it. Just let it wash over you!

daisiesandpeonies · 29/07/2019 18:13

@Bettythecat I'm getting quite a lot of it. I'm getting sick of being told to drink/eat ginger when it makes the nausea worse for me! I've also had a weird conversation with my best friend about elective Caesarean sections, which I'm keen to research. She seemed a bit judge-y. In the end only you know what's right got you!

Delilah7 · 29/07/2019 18:44

@TrashKitten10 yay!!!! Love tree stencils 😍

Fivebyfive2 · 29/07/2019 19:04

@MrsEG, what a picture!! It's so exciting!! So glad all is going well. Good call on the nursery I think 😀

@purplefig, glad to hear your eye is a bit better xx

@bettythecat, ace to see you back 🙂 Just try to ignore where you can... I've had comments about us buying stuff early 🙄 Had to bite my tongue and not say we've already had our bad luck thanks!! I just smile, nod and go Well, we're doing it this way but thank you 😂

I'm loving all the nursery sorting stories /ideas! Especially as now I know we're not the only ones with loads of clutter 😛

Work is massively stressing me out recently, so it's pasta, ice cream and Stranger Things tonight!! 16 wk mw apt tomorrow 😀

Fivebyfive2 · 29/07/2019 19:24

Omg sooo many faces used, sorry!! X

MrsEG · 29/07/2019 22:12

@Fivebyfive2 Thank you! Gosh yes we have so so so much sorting and organising to do. It’s a bit overwhelming!
We finished Stranger Things S3 last week and I bawled my eyes out at the finale! Enjoy the ice cream and pasta - i’m having an off day so my dinner was two crumpets 😔

@purplefig Hope all went great at your scan!

cupcakesandglitter · 30/07/2019 06:39

@Fivebyfive2 I've got some unisex baby clothes already from a few months ago, DH has already put his foot down 😅😅

@AngeloMysterioso I've done a clear blue digi and it's come back saying 1-2 weeks... I'm quite surprised I got my BFP when I did!! X

Thankyou @purplefig ❤️

Oh my god @MrsEG how precious!! 😭 glad everything went well - I think giving them the bigger room is sensible, we've got twins in the family and the amount of space they need is unreal 😂 oh and my mum was absolutely fine breastfeeding them!!

Thankyou @Bettythecat glad your scan went well xx

@TrashKitten10 scoffed at the pubes comment 😂😂 I have a whole Pinterest board on nursery ideas... I've tagged what we're going for below!! X

@Fivebyfive2 I'm only on episode three series 3!! I'm already needing a nap every day so I'm struggling to watch tv 😂😂 x

Bit of an update from me - I had my doctors appointment yesterday and once I mentioned the spotting/cramping (I did have some clotting on Thursday) he sent me straight to A&E to cross out an ectopic. Was pretty much in hospital all day at the EPU - had both scans done, lining is looking thick but too early to see anything yet, but I'm hoping I can go back next week for another scan and fx I'll see a little smidge!! Just waiting for a phone call with my blood test results today 😩

BabySquid · 30/07/2019 09:24

@purplefig how did your scan go hun??
I'm getting a bit anxious for mine on Friday. I don't know why, I've no reason to doubt anything but I think because I don't feel nauseous all the time anymore... curse these bad thoughts!!

purplefig · 30/07/2019 09:52

@MrsEG that sounds like a pretty sensible suggestion. I'm slightly worried about annoying neighbours too - but what can you do?!

@TrashKitten10 eyes are fine (apparently lots of people are coming in with floaters at the moment which is a bit strange). How was your aqua class?

@Bettythecat glad you're doing OK. I'd just smile at them and then do whatever the fuck you were planning to do anyway Grin.

@Fivebyfive2 that sounds like a fab combination! All the best for your 16 week appointment - let us know how you get on.

@BabySquid @TrashKitten10 the scan was fine - so relieved!

I thought I'd be cool as a cucumber having already had an 8 week scan, but I was so nervous in the hours leading up to it! So cool to see him/her again though, looking like an actual baby now and moving around etc. We told loads of people last night, it was so much fun as first grandchild on both sides. Now reading all about nub and skull theory bahaha.

@MrsEG lovely scan pics!

@TrashKitten10 how was aqua natal class?

@Bettythecat people just love to share their opinions, I mostly just ignore it... smile and ‘oh right’ and move on. We’re getting a lot of comments at the moment about our decision to use reusable nappies.

@purplefig glad your eyes are ok! I’ve had more eye floaters than normal since getting pregnant, I coincidentally had my 2-yearly optician check up a few months ago and they said it was a normal pregnancy thing, nothing to worry about

@cupcakesandglitter love those nursery ideas!

We’re getting carpet fitted in a couple of weeks so after that I can think about buying last bits of furniture (is a changing table necessary?) and sorting out the nursery. So far we just have everything stacked up in the living room so it’ll be nice to get everything arranged properly

purplefig · 30/07/2019 10:23

@stormtrooperjulian after our chat on here, and some IRL friends too, I think we're going to go the resuable nappy route. And just use disposables when it's practical (e.g. days out). We're just getting our carpet fitted today! FWIW, I don't think a changing table is necessary. We're planning to put a changing mat type thingy down on top of a dresser.

MrsEG · 30/07/2019 10:27

@cupcakesandglitter Good to know! I’d really like to give it a go especially given that most twins are born early so quite small, try and help them pack on the lbs! You’ll have to see if she has any top tips!! Those nursery ideas are lovely. Glad all went well at the EPU!

@purplefig Ah lovely! Scan anxiety is horrible isn’t it; such a relief once you’re done! I’ve never ever gotten my head around the nub skull theory, I honestly just don’t know what people are looking at!! Yeah, our original idea was to call at the neighbours in a few months just forewarning them, which we still will do, just so they think we’re nice haha. Like you say there’s bugger all we can do about the noise but at least they’ll be prepared! They’re a lovely couple but both in their 60’s and retired - may be a bit of a shock to the system haha!

@stormtrooperjulian Good luck with the nursery! Let the nesting commence haha. I’ve no clue about changing tables - I really do need to do some research! I’m quite lucky that lots of my friends have kids so after the 12 week scan I plan on asking for all of the advice on what is essential and what to totally not bother with!

I feel so ropey this week; just shattered. I’m good for nothing, can’t even go on my evening walks anymore! Also can’t eat cooked food, everything has to be cold. Such fun haha!

purplefig · 30/07/2019 10:56

@MrsEG we get on with both sets - one already know haha! It's just that British thing of feeling like you're inconveniencing people. I had a loooong wait for my eye appointment yesterday, and a scan picture and my phone....so I fell down a rabbit hole! I think skull theory is largely considered hogwash, but looks like there is some validity to the nub theory. I really couldn't care either way, I was just bored waiting and it was interesting to read up on.

MrsEG · 30/07/2019 11:00

@purplefig I see threads on it all the time and people commenting like ‘Oh definitely a girl/boy’ and I’m like WHAT are you looking at?! Haha. I’m like Rachel in friends ‘I don’t see it!’ Yes all very British, all ‘I’m terribly sorry that whilst I probably won’t be sleeping at all for months my big concern is that they may occasionally wake you every now and again...’

purplefig · 30/07/2019 11:16

@MrsEg it's basically a little white line in the genital area that hasn't formed yet, but it's angle supposedly suggests boy/girl. So if it's flat and parallel with the spine it's more likely to be a girl and if it's a boy, it'll be stick up at more than 30 degrees. You can't see them in all scan pictures though. And yes - that's exactly it!! Luckily both of mine are parents, so they've been there too.
