@BabySquid glad you're feeling pretty good today - you enjoy that pizza! If I were you, I'd snap up a few bits now and just go for loose silhouettes that would fit a range of sizes e.g floaty dresses, elasticated midi/maxi skirts etc. Obviously depends on your style though, and if you're after a more fitted look I'd probably wait. Places like ASOS cater to all seasons year-round.

stormtrooperjulian · 17/07/2019 11:42

@MrsEG I’m very impressed that you’re on fruit rather than sweets now! I mostly survived on digestive biscuits and potatoes for the first couple of months.

@purplefig have you had a lot of work done on your house? We’re in the last week or so of having the builders around, then it’s just the flooring to go in. Our kitchen flooring has been delayed by a month cos it’s out of stock everywhere, I had to try very hard not to lose my temper when I was told, I’ve lived in a building site since January and I was so looking forward to having a nice house again

@BabySquid I’d probably buy a few things now, shorts and maxi dresses and skirts, cos there will be much less choice then, and at 23 weeks your shape may be changing quickly anyway so even buying at 20 weeks may just be a guessing game. I prefer under bump shorts anyway as they don’t rely on the size of your belly to hold them up. Vest tops and bikinis you can get at any time of year really so you can wait a while to see how much your boobs grow.

Had our first NCT class yesterday, the forced social interaction bit was awkward at first but everyone seemed nice.

TrashKitten10 · 17/07/2019 11:48

Hi all, definitely quiet here! I'll try to catch up but I'm a bit behind so sorry if I've missed anybody's post. I'm 24 weeks today and it's really starting to fly by! I break up for the summer holidays next week which is when I'm going to start going mad ordering all the baby bits and getting them delivered while I'm off, so excited :)

@BabySquid Can you get some nice light dresses that will work whatever the size of your bump? Maternity clothes anyway are designed to work from a modest bump right the way through to full term so I would say you'd be fine getting maternity clothes in preparation now, you might even find some good summery clothes at bargain prices in the sales. Dorothy Perkins seem to always have sales on, have easy delivery and returns and I've been really happy with my maternity dresses from there.

@purplefig @MrsEG The first trimester beige 😂 I'd been eating so healthily whilst TTC then the first trimester I lived off bread, biscuits, potatoes and plain pasta. Just the thought of veggies 🤢 You'll be pleased to hear for me at least it definitely passed! So strange how our babies need all these vitamins and minerals yet all they let us eat is carby crap haha.

@MrsEG @BabySquid I had a yukky taste in my mouth too and found that nice flavoured waters and ice lollies helped.

@RanchoRelaxo Freya sounds gorgeous, and what a lovely name (it's on our list!). Taking one day at a time definitely sounds like a good attitude to have. Your body has been through so much and your world has been turned upside down, remember you're doing a great job :)

@mrsof20118 Glad that you're getting on okay and your lovely baby is worth all the sleepless nights ☺️

@daisiesandpeonies So pleased things are okay, must be such a reassurance. Hopefully baby doesn't give you any more scares now!

@LindyMoe Your sickness sounds rough :( take it easy and don't feel under pressure to do more than you feel able to. Stay hydrated and try to eat tiny bits of what you fancy. I ended up having a week off work when my nausea and sickness were really bad, don't feel guilty if you need some time off too.

MrsEG · 17/07/2019 13:13

@purplefig Fruit I am actually really enjoying this week - I can eat strawberries by the bucket load and also finding I really want citrus so loads of oranges and satsumas, also mango has gone down a treat. Also got a freezer full of Soleros (totally the same) which are amazing in the evening when the horrid metal mouth is at its worst!
Stretching pains are odd - they feel like growing pains like when you’re in school! I actually sneezed the other day and felt such a pain shoot across my abs. Apparently it’s normal as the womb stretches to have some ligament tears, and mine is stretching at double speed so perhaps I’m just more aware of it!
Enjoy your weekend off - we’ve nothing on either, and I plan on doing absolutely niente :)

@BabySquid Enjoy the pizza!

@stormtrooperjulian Oh god yes I love potatoes in any form haha! I think I’d be the same at NCT classes - I hate anything with an ice breaker haha, but I do know people who’ve made really good friends at their classes!

@TrashKitten10 I just cannot stomach veg - I can have peas and sweet corn like a child but that’s my limit. I’m really hoping I revert back to normal soon! Ahh jealous of your long summer holiday - enjoy it!!

purplefig · 17/07/2019 15:10

@MrsEG Oh go you - think of all the vitamins! And anything that helps cover the metallic taste is a must imho. Inspired by you, I've just been out and picked up a punnet of raspberries as they sounded the most doable. Oh and at 5"1, I never really experienced growing pains bahaha. Makes sense you'd get them early on though, with two of them in there.

@TrashKitten10 how're you feeling at 24 weeks? What's the bump like?! Oh man, I'm so relived you said the beige phase passed for you. I cannot wait to crave vegetables!

@stormtrooperjulian a fair bit, but it's been spread out over a long while as we started last January and have taken lots of breaks. We've basically gutted and redone the lounge, hallway, 2 bedrooms, my office and the bathroom. Just waiting for the hallway to be carpeted. Still a few bits to do (the outside is a state) but we can chill for a bit. Sorry to hear your kitchen floor has been delayed - what kind of flooring did you go for? It'll be so worth it when it's all done and exactly how you want it. Oh and glad to read NCT wasn't too bad...though does anyone enjoy forced social interaction? Surely not in Britain?!

MrsEG · 17/07/2019 16:14

@purplefig Haha! I went from being a tiny scrawny wee thing at 12 to being 5 ft 7 by the time I was 15. It was painful! Oh, puberty!! Ooh raspberries sound good too. The meal I struggle with most is dinner as it’s when I generally feel at my worst. I can’t keep having toast (or can I?) I have big plans to put on some potatoes when I get in but a lot could happen to my willpower between now and 6pm...
House renovations sound crazy! We did all of downstairs and have stopped now - it was hell and I can’t face having to do upstairs as well! Those weeks without my kitchen were some of the hardest of my life! It will be so worth it when it’s finished.

purplefig · 17/07/2019 17:40

@MrsEG I bet that hurt!!! And you can totally keep eating toast - the 2nd trimester is in sight! Failing that, potatoes sound good. I'm having.....surprise surprise...a pie. I'm going to turn into one at this rate. I'd find my new diet quite embarrassing if I didn't find it so amusing. Yeah life without a kitchen is no fun - that's the one bit still to do here. It's totally usable, so I've been a bit lazy. But guess it would be easier now than with a baby.

In other fun pregnancy news...I think I have thrush. Joy. Any idea what we're allowed to use?

stormtrooperjulian · 17/07/2019 18:17

@MrsEG I am hoping to make some friends, I don’t know anyone with a small baby so it would be nice to know people locally in the same situation as me

@purplefig we’ve gone with white marble tiles with grey veining. I was set on a white floor and it’s been incredibly hard to find, they all seem to be either grey or beige rather than white!
You can use Canesten in pregnancy, the pessary and cream one not the oral pill, use your fingers rather than the applicator to insert the pessary (and tmi, use a liner afterwards, it’s horribly messy 😐)

BostonFern · 17/07/2019 18:18

@daisiesandpeonies really pleased to hear your scan went well.

@purplefig we had the 12 week scan but declined the combined testing as we'd already had a NIPT which is more accurate.

@RanchoRelaxo lovely to hear Freya is doing well, be kind to yourself whilst your hormones are changing x

@stormtrooperjulian glad to hear everyone seemed nice at your NCT class, I think we are going to book ours next month.

@TrashKitten10 We break up on Friday, I cannot wait, DP has a list of jobs that need doing in the house that is as long as his arm so his 6 weeks might not be so restful!

@MrsEG The stretching pains and pain when sneezing really surprised me in the first trimester! I also went off veg completely, but I'm able to enjoy them again now.

Sorry I've been a bit quiet this week- felt really tired the last few nights, think baby is having a growth spurt! Enjoying knowing that as I've turned 21 weeks today I'm definitely past the half way point!

LikeTheFruit · 17/07/2019 19:27

Hi everyone!

It has been quiet here. I've been working night shifts Monday and Tuesday but off til next Monday now woop!

I'm 6+5 now and I think the nausea has now kicked in. I couldn't tell if it was usual night shift queasiness or something more. But it's lasted all day, there if I'm hungry and still there one I've eaten.

Hoping I'll be feeling up for the 2 weddings I've got the next 2 weekends. Will need to take emergency biccies!

sunshine1987 · 17/07/2019 21:46

Hi ladies, hope you’re all doing well. Sorry I completely forgot about mumsnet 🙈 would definitely push you all to join the due date threads on here, someone will end up setting up a Facebook group and it’s a bloody lifeline! I’m just under 38 weeks now, so only 2 weeks to go until I meet my baby (having a c section!). It’s gone so blooming quick.

So lovely to see so many newbies on here 💜 hope your all doing well xx

purplefig · 18/07/2019 09:27

@stormtrooperjulian oooo that sounds absolutely lovely - what cabinets / counters have you gone for with that? Sorry, I'm a bit of an interiors nerd. We've currently got what the previous occupants put in: high gloss white shaker units which I quite like, with dark grey laminate floor and countertops which look dreadful. I'm thinking of doing a half reno before the baby arrives, and keeping the carcasses but rejigging the layout and swapping out the counters for oak and floor for natural stone. Thanks for the thrush tip - I don't think it is that now 🙄 but it's good to know!

@LikeTheFruit I think my nausea kicked in around week 6/7 - you'll deffo want emergency wedding snacks! I've had a couple of really full on weekends and I've found I've just got on with them, and then crashed afterwards.

@sunshine1987 oh that's interesting - hadn't considered FB! Is there a FB group for this thread? So exciting how close you are to meeting your little one!

I'm 10 weeks today and feel like I'm getting somewhere now! I love the week updates on the app, it's so fascinating to read what's going on in there. Our bodies really are incredible!

LikeTheFruit · 18/07/2019 10:43

@purplefig I was really hoping it was all just night shift related but had a 10 hour sleep last night and it's still here. Never mind! It's almost reassuring as I've felt pretty much completely normal up until now. I wonder how many ginger nuts I can fit in my clutch bag 😂😂

sunshine1987 · 18/07/2019 10:57

@purplefig no there isn’t but a few of us who are due in August all joined the MN Aug due date group on Facebook and it’s been fab xx

purplefig · 18/07/2019 11:10

@LikeTheFruit I know what you mean about it being annoying but reassuring. Like you, I felt totally normal until about 6 weeks. But even since then it's been very on and off and some days I feel pretty OK. I got myself in a bit of a state with 'vanishing symptoms' and ended up getting a private scan at 8 weeks which actually has done the trick and totally calmed me down. But a more rational person probably wouldn't need to go to that measure! Oooo ginger nuts - that's a thought!! Well you no longer need an emergency tampon, so that makes a bit more room. I reckon at least 7 in a ziplock freezer bag Grin.

@sunshine1987 fab idea - thanks for mentioning - I might do that after my 12 week scan.

Oh speaking of scans - I just got my letter through and it's July 29th. So excited!

MrsEG · 18/07/2019 11:11

@stormtrooperjulian I’m one of the last in my group to have a baby so loads of them in my circle! I’m kinda secretly hoping some will start having a second so I have some pals on maternity leave :) If not, NCT it is!!

@BostonFern The pain when sneezing was a little unnerving when it first happened! I was like what was that?! Ahh you’ll be starting to feel little flutters soon!

@LikeTheFruit Enjoy the weddings! I was ravenous at 6 weeks and ate everything in sight so snacks will be a must haha!

@sunshine1987 2 weeks! Oh how exciting. I hope everything goes brilliantly for you. Good luck!

@purplefig I was trying to find a twin app this week to no avail! To be honest googling twin pregnancies is a bit unnerving still - i’m enjoying blissful ignorance for now (stopped at ‘several broken ribs’ on one article)

stormtrooperjulian · 18/07/2019 11:12

@purplefig We’ve gone with matt dark green handleless units and a white stone worktop, and a red and white abstract pattern glass splashback to provide contrast. It needed the white floor and worktop to balance the dark units and brighten the room, I didn’t expect it to be so difficult to find white flooring! Everyone was rather dubious when I explained what I wanted (even DH, he just lets me run with what I want anyway 😂) but it looks amazing and will look even better when the flooring is in.

I’ve decided to commit to reusable nappies and have started buying a few different types to try out. Will use disposables for the first week or so while we get into the swing of the whole new baby thing then start on the reusables.

purplefig · 18/07/2019 12:31

@MrsEG omg....I do not blame you. I know the Ovia app does have info on twins. I've just 'turned' 10 weeks today and there is the option to click through for development at this stage for twins. But it's not a comprehensive, twin-focused app which would be good. What about trying one of these? www.littleangels.org/top-7-pregnancy-apps-twins-multiples/

@stormtrooperjulian no I think that sounds incredible and very refreshing to the popular all grey / white look. How exciting! I'm also impressed with your dedication to the environment...I'd love to use reusables, but it seems like such a big job in what is going to be a crazy whirlwind.

BabySquid · 18/07/2019 13:33

@purplefig your scan is before mine 😢 (only by a few days!) mines the 2nd Aug.
@MrsEG I think my eyes just popped for you at reading "several broken ribs!" 😳😬 the app I have had a section each week on twin/multiples. It's pregnancy plus. It's pretty good. Even gives you a few weeks of twin scan pics (wk 12 is twins!)
@stormtrooperjulian my mum is trying to get me to think about terry nappies, I'd rather as they don't end up in land fill and the ocean, but I don't know if I'll have time once I go back to work etc so will it be worth the initial outlay of £££ to then use disposables after 9 months anyway!

I have a wedding this weekend (2nd of 4 this year!) and even tho after weighing myself this morning and losing 2lbs (unintentionally!), I don't quite fit into my dress :( so I'll need to go shopping after all! I'm only bloody 10+4!!

daisiesandpeonies · 18/07/2019 15:28

@LindyMoe when are you due? I'm roughly 7+5.
Thanks for all the nice messages everyone 😊 Feeling much more relaxed. Although I had an embarrassing moment at work yesterday - had to rush from a meeting to go and dry heave in the nearest sink 🙈 It was because someone offered me a fairy cake... Only my line manager and work bff know, but I think a lot of people will be suspicious now!
Joining in on the reusable nappy debate - I think we are going to try our best, but use disposables when it's just not practical like going away for a wedding. Every little helps for the planet; don't want to beat myself up about it too much if it's not manageable every single day.

purplefig · 18/07/2019 16:53

@BabySquid yeah I was expecting mine to be August - pleasantly surprised. I've just into town to try on some dresses and I'm normally an 8 maybe a 10 in dresses and I honestly struggled to get 12s over my new heaving chest!!! I actually laughed out loud in the changing room. Like you, I've not gained weight but obviously am changing shape. Hope you can find something nice this weekend.

@daisiesandpeonies oh that's funny!! Poor you 🤢 when will you tell the others at work? I think your approach to reusables sounds sensible. I'm just not sure I can deal with the extra (and I imagine kind of gross) workload. But I'll see, don't need to decide now.

Fivebyfive2 · 18/07/2019 20:26

Hi all, sorry I've been really absent on here, I did do a long post last night but it somehow deleted before I could post and I got annoyed and turned my phone off!!

Re the nappy debate... I like the idea of reusable ones for the planet but... I'm just not sure!! I got my bounty mum to be pack and got a voucher for 'bio degradable' nappies so got some of those on the way to look at!

Currently in the middle of negotiating a potential maternity package at work, I posted in a separate thread in case anyone is in a similar boat xx

@MrsEG, I'd be the same about staying blissfully unaware until necessary, twins must be exciting but daunting!! Xx

@BabySquid, enjoy the wedding! Get yourself a nice comfy yet stunning dress, you deserve it 👗😀 If it helps, I'm 15 weeks now and already in full on maternity jeans!!

Anyone got weekend plans?? Xx

purplefig · 18/07/2019 20:44

@Fivebyfive2 ooo biodegradable is a good option. Good luck for getting a decent maternity package - I'm self employed so there is no negotiation to be had!

well the big news here is....I didn't have pie or potato for dinner!! To my great delight, I ate and thoroughly enjoyed, a veggie chilli and rice. Feels so good to eat something vaguely healthy!

MrsEG · 18/07/2019 21:23

@stormtrooperjulian We are definitely going reusable to keep overall costs down. I have a friend who used them with both of her children so plan on asking her for all her advice!

@purplefig ooh thank you so much for that link! @BabySquid I will try that app too :)

@Fivebyfive2 That’s so interesting - my work only offer SMP and I go back and forth on trying to negotiate for better. In 3 years I’ve been there I’ll only be the third woman to go off, so it’s not like it is happening frequently. But I just don’t know!

@purplefig Glad you enjoyed dinner! I have felt really okay today, just so tired - spent the day at the company summer fun day and it was exhausting. But wolfed the BBQ down, along with a slab of carrot cake.

Fivebyfive2 · 18/07/2019 21:53

@MrsEG, I've been at my place just over 3 years. I'm their first employee to be going on maternity leave, so hoping I might be able to negotiate something but not holding my breath!! We saved and planned for just smp, so wouldn't be the end of the world if not, but obviously would be thrilled to get some form of package! Maybe you could ask if they'd be willing to discuss something? Xx
