@64632K people are definitely the worst on the tube! I was so naive at the beginning, I didn't think I would be in need of a seat for a 20 minute journey... what was I thinking!

64632K · 25/05/2019 11:12

Agree @Kathryn19, I held off getting a baby on board badge because I thought I didnt need it but realised with the nausea and the throwing around the tube does - ai definitely needed it. I don't like asking people for their seats either, I am just shocked at the fact that alot of times no one did

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 11:40

@64626k they’re very high 😬😳 I’ve just eaten as I normally do I guess I’m just very unhealthy at eating!

@kathryn19 it’s strange cause it’s so common yet I don’t know anyone who had it!

Kathryn19 · 25/05/2019 11:56

@64632K same! It's the low blood pressure that has done it for me

@Xyzzzzz I think it is one of the parts of pregnancy people aren't great at talking about.. guess one of the best things about the internet is being able to find people having similar experiences and support networks and advice.. I haven't had any major issues luckily (touch wood) but have appreciated having a group of other pregnant women to speak to, because I have almost no one in my day to day life with young kids or anything. Did just find out someone I know at work is expecting which was nice though :)

64632K · 25/05/2019 12:06

@Xyzzzzz it is very common. I know a number of people who have had it and have had absolutely no complications. My readings after meals vary a lot depending on what I have had, look for low GI foods, that will help. Also try to go for a walk after meals too. I am on enhanced care because of the GD which means more monitoring, normal scans at 13 and 20 weeks, then scans at 28/30/32/34/36 weeks. In between I have appts with the Antenatal diabetes clinic with diabetes specialiset midwifes and obstetricians, babys heartbeat is listened to at every appt. They give you diet advice which I have found pants to be honest.

64632K · 25/05/2019 12:11

Sorry posted before finished. They keep an eye on you and baby and baby growth so baby doesn't get too big, they recommend inducement early if that is the case, placenta also breaks down quicker with bigger babies and GD. Tbh they will tell you worst case scenario stuff but I have not met anyone yet who has been down the worst case scenario.
I started aquanatal and mum2be exercise classes which has kept my blood sugar levels down too.

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 15:42

@64632K thank you so much for the advice. I try to walk after meals. Just hoping I can manage it with diet.

@kathryn19 the majority of my friends have older children so it was a long time ago for them pregnancy. I’ve not really enjoyed pregnancy and then the diabetes is the icing on the cake I can’t have 🤣

64632K · 25/05/2019 17:47

@Kathryn19 I can imagine the low BP with the heat in the underground with no seat to sit in would totally suck. Oddly I have found that men have given up their seats more than women who pretend like they haven't seen you.

@Xyzzzzz I am sure you will be fine. What have your after meal readings been. My evenings meals are the worst at 6.8 ish and I hate the thought of insulin injecting but take stock of the fact that not having insulin will harm the little one. White bread/pasta etc will make the readings higher

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 20:02

Around 6.00 but I only got the machine a couple of days ago so new to all of this.

64632K · 25/05/2019 20:23

6 is fine, it within the recommended range except for the before breakfast reading which should be 5.3. As long as ur readings are within range to you have nothing to be worried about. Diet controlled or medication?

Kathryn19 · 25/05/2019 20:34

Oof sounds like a lot to think about!
I'm having more tests at the moment to see what's going on with my funny heart rate.

Other than that I'm feeling surprisingly good this week touch wood... sorry sounds so braggy but have to express my disbelief as I feel less pregnant as I enter the 3rd trimester than I have in ages haha. Finally have enough energy to actually want to do things!

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 21:01

So far diet controlled but just started so I imagine they will reassess.

I just feel so tired now and have constant cramps!

Kathryn19 · 25/05/2019 21:07

Ah I'm sorry @Xyzzzzz! How many weeks along are you now? If you did want to see what the August mums to be have been saying about GD and other things, there is a fb group that was started from the mumsnet august thread in the antenatal forum

64632K · 25/05/2019 21:33

@Xyzzzzz they will check your readings routinely and also do blood tests frequently too. If ur readings start creeping over the guidelines they will recommend Metformin or insulin, I chose insulin because the metformin made me sick and also it can be passed to baby, insulin.does not. GD gives u risk of a bigger baby and thats why the monitor more closely.

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 21:34

Thanks @kathryn19. I’m 29 weeks now, how far are you?

I’ve really struggled with my hormones during pregnancy they’ve been terrible but I’ve also felt really low at times. So I’ve been speaking to my midwife about it.

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 21:34

Sorry for the double post. Atm im measuring at the correct size so hopefully this will continue if I manage to maintain my diet.

Kathryn19 · 25/05/2019 21:36

@Xyzzzzz I'm just a couple of weeks behind, 27 weeks. So sorry you're struggling. I've had some low points but I don't know if I can blame hormones, think it was more the shock of pregnancy and not being mentally prepared for all the changes.. still not to be honest..

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 21:42

I think when it’s your first like ours, it’s hard to understand what is normal and not. My midwife said if I have more low days than happy days then it’s more like Pre natal anxiety.

Yeah even thought mine was planned I’m still not prepared for the change. It’s hard and I don’t think you can ever be prepared for a baby imo! I’d much rather do the parent thing that pregnancy thing! My sickness only stopped around 25 weeks.

64632K · 25/05/2019 22:04

I am a little behind you at 21 weeks @Kathryn19 and @Xyzzzzz. Ours was an IVF pregnancy so obviously planned. Sorry to hear you are having a tough time but the end result will all be worth it.

My new sticking point is the gender, we decided we didnt want to know and I stand by that but the more I hear about nub theory and skull theory, I cant help but scan the scan pictures

Xyzzzzz · 25/05/2019 22:08

I don’t know the sex. I don’t want to. I think the surprise will keep me going. Bit annoying cause shops don’t have a huge neutral range

Kathryn19 · 25/05/2019 22:15

@64632K thank you for being so kind, it feels pretty awful to admit because I know we are so lucky that we managed to get pregnant so easily and we are over the moon about it. Just takes a little adjustment! But yes I agree will all be worth it soon!

64632K · 25/05/2019 22:32

@Kathryn19 you are preaching to the choir here. Even though we struggled and paid a lot to get us here, I complained about how I wanted my body back, I like to be in control of myself and all the hormones and nausea and tiredness really threw me off. DH was less than impressed but when he realised exactly what I was going through he did understand why I was moaning about it.

64632K · 25/05/2019 22:36

@Xyzzzzz we decided too that we didn't want to know. Neutral clothes are difficult to find, totally agree.

Kathryn19 · 25/05/2019 22:40

@64632K mine has been putting up with the same!

I half regret finding out gender as despite me explaining my desire for gender neutral clothing, family members have been buying all the pink...

64632K · 25/05/2019 22:44

OMG I would hate the pink, I think we are having a girl but dont know for sure as we asked them not to check. One thing I always said to family was pink/blue is a big no no.

Work colleagues act as if there is sonething wrong with me because I am not all gooey and gushing about being pregnant.
