Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Chooster · 14/08/2007 16:14

hey all - Good luck with the doula Mrs!! And good bargain on the moses basket. Even if it doesn't work with your LO you could alwyas share a bed for the time between the birth and the move to Spain. Like you say you dont want to be buying and moving cots!. I had injections both times to get the placenta out and as you'll remember the last time even that didn't work . I agree with the others, I personally dont think it matters that much as you are so wrapped up in whats just happened - and the little wrinkly thing in your arms. Although I can understand that you want everything to be exactly as you want it the first time. I guess it all depends on what kind of labour you've had and how the placenta is looking. I'm sure you'll get the good advise at the time...

I'll keep you up to date on hammock news Honey! Sorry for your aches and pains - and I dont just mean your DC

Greedy! I'm sure your DD will be fine. I thought of you the other day when I saw some fab bunting in a shop. I bet youts looks brilliant! Am sure DD will just love it. Also I know it is a different field but what are your thoughts on cranial osteopathy? I've considered it for Theo as he had some bad spells of reflux - not sick just the acid burn. I've heard some good stories but it all just be a load of cobblers

HV been today and Theo now 9lb 14oz - He's packing on the weight so I dont think the reflux is slowing him down thats my boy!

We are off to my mums for 4 days tonight. DH has been home all day today and has been groaning and moaning when he sees what I'm packing! Oh well! Fingers crossed for some good weather so we can get to the beach .

greedygreedyguzzler · 14/08/2007 16:15

Yum! Placenta stroganoff!................and i was wondering what to make for tea tonight!!

Chooster · 14/08/2007 16:18

Uuurgh - placenta stroganoff! GROSS!!!! With DS1 they spent ages inspecting this mass of blood and goo to make sure it was complete - almost made me want to hurl. Didn't see Theos but the doc said, "oh, its passed its best" - so I definatelt didn't want to see that one

MrsMcJnr · 14/08/2007 16:28

Chooster ? I was thinking of you and the placenta thing I have to say. I read that the injection can lead to more trapped placentas then a natural delivery because the ergometrine component of the drug makes the uterus clamp down and if that happens before the placenta delivers; it becomes trapped and has to be manually removed in theatre like you had. Downside for me though is that you are more likely to bleed more with a natural 3rd stage and given my thinned blood, they might advise against it so much to consider! That?s great about Theo?s weight well done!

greedygreedyguzzler · 14/08/2007 16:39

chooster - just make sure you dont forget to pack your boobs!

my opinion on cranial osteopathy is that if a baby has had a difficult delivery and it really NEEDS work on its cranium then it can be a really good thing and can really help them. trouble is, some cranial osteopaths will just treat all babies whether they need it or not, which won't do them any harm, but wont necessarily do them much good either!
its all to do with the remoulding of the skull after birth. generally the more traumatic a birth the more likely a baby is to need some cranial work. could be worth a go in theos case, just try and find someone who has been recommended, or has kids of their own.

fettleandminifettle · 14/08/2007 19:03

Hi all

Just popping into say - we're in our new house and broadband is working. Surrounded by lots and lots and lots and lots ......and lots of boxes, so no time to catch up now - but you've all been so chatty over teh last 4 days, it will take me ages to read through!!

Hope everyone is well?

back later, when I have more time!

take care
xxxx

honeyapple · 14/08/2007 21:19

Evening.

Chooster- I took my DS to a cranial osteopath cos he had quite a traumatic time coming out... ending with forceps which left quite a bit of bruising around his eye/cheek. He was a very fussy baby, didnt like to lie down at all, wanted to be carried ALL the time. Very tiring. The cranial did seem to make him happier to lie on his back and generally chilled him out (a bit!). But was a really weird thing to watch. You cant tell that the osteopath is doing anything, just tiny tiny movements/pressure on babies head. I didnt take DD because her birth was fine and she seemed in general a much more content baby. I would say as Greedy said- wont do Theo any harm. Did burn a bit of a hole in my pocket though .

Just got back from yoga. Hadnt been for a couple of weeks as been on holiday... a couple of babies had been born... and a few more any minute. Weird thing really this conveyor belt of babies!

Got a real craving for some chocolate... think there might be some lurking in the fridge....

fettleandminifettle · 15/08/2007 09:24

Finally managed to catch up - but forgotten nearly everything!!

So lovely to hear from you Kitkat and you sounding so in love! I'm terrified of tearing, stitches etc, I had such a straight-forward birth with DD (if you discount the fact that I was chemically induced, hooked up to a drip, baby constantly monitored and restricted to a bed!!). But no tears, nothing, start to finish in under 8 hours! Scared this time around as I don't know what to expect naturally!

Chooster - I didn't really do anything differently with our sick monster - just took loads of changes of clothes, plastic bags, wipes and muslins with us!! Staying over at other people's houses was pretty unsettling though. Always fed her surrounded by towels (muslins just didn't cut the mustard as they say!!!!!).

Must dash out now, have to take a urine sample to the doctors to register. it will then take 48 hours before I can book at appointment. i've tried saying look, I'm 8 months pg, I've had some spotting, I would like to at least get registered with a community midwife! Try again this morning. At least I'm still booked into the same hospital - thank goodness I decided not to change that as well. And I'm due to see my consultant on Tuesday for my growth scan - that 4 weeks has flown by!!

Unpacking going, but feels more choatic than before. DD is helpfully helping by unpacking all her toys, which were actually neatly tidied away in her toy box!! DH is out being "marched-out" of our old army quarter, so we'll see how much we get fined this time around.

Oh and blo*DY 'professional' movers obviously dropped one of the boxes with all our Denby wedding present special china in it and broke half of if!!! This is our 5th move in 6 years and that's the first time it has happened, but still so utterly distressing to an 8 month pg person!!

Right must go.

love and hugs to all

Bodkin · 15/08/2007 11:58

Right - you lot are in for a mammoth post from me

SIL staying with her kids, so they've all (DP and DD1 too) gone out for the day - leaving me, Isla and mumsnet all alone....

Fettle - hooray - well done you for getting in to the new house. Lots to be done, but as long as you take it easy, all that bending and moving could help baby get in to a good position - i really think that's why Isla came out so easily, i had spent a week on all fours painting kitchen cupboards! Must be a nice feeling for you though to be finally in, but about your wedding china - can that be replaced at their cost?. How's the hole in the kitchen wall?

Greedy - blimey, that was quick work on the bunting. Think i@ll be a lazy arse and get mine off Ebay..... That's interesting what you say about Cranial osteopathy. Everyone's mad on it in my town - I was forever being told to take DD1 to help with her constant grizzling. I'm too much of a tightwad though.... and she grew out of it by 9months anyway.

Re placentas and 3rd stage - I had the injection both times - I'm funny like that, i like to be all natural - BF, washable nappies, no pain relief, but thought I would just want it to be all over once the baby was born. Agree that if feels odd having it tugged out, injection or not! I was very curious to see my placenta this time (not at all interested in DD1s) but i guess because it was probably the only chance I would get to see a placenta in the flesh, so to speak. Actually it was fascinating. The MW talked me through what she was looking for, and I felt rather stupidly proud of what my body had produced, without me knowing anything about it!

That's interesting what you say about tieing the cord with thread Honeyapple - can they do that? Think I would have much preferred that than that horrid plastic clip.

MrsMc - think a Doula might be a good idea. A good thing to do to prepare DH for the birth is to train him how to rub your lower spine (to relieve the counter-pressure as the baby's head comes down and pushes against it) basically if he uses the heel of his palm (if that makes sense) and pushes really hard while rotating in a circular motion it really helps during the contractions. My DP was fab at it, but he had to keep running off to the kitchen to make tea for the MWs.... grrrrr, come back here you!

Firsty - hope you're out there somewhere and so wrapped up in little Ty you just haven't the time to post! How is it all going - I bet he's a hungry little chap - is BF going well?

Babymad - hope Connie is settling down a bit now. Can you get someone to take your DSs out for a day so you can have a bit of special baby time?

Chooster - Glad to hear Theo is packing it on. Isla is too, but i forgot to go and get her weighed yesterday so have no idea what she is now. Probably aobut the same though. Can I ask you about evenings? Isla seems to be much more unsettled in the evenings and wants to feed more often, which i know is normal, but sometimes she does seem completely manic (lots of panting, head-banging, really gaspy feeding and then hiccups and more throwing up) finally crashing out about 11ish (by which time I am shattered) whereas in the day she is generally pretty placid. Do you find that with Theo at all?

Who else have I missed... Seaside, Iwillbe - hope you are both fine and dandy and rubbing your little bumps proudly! Kitkat - great to hear the feeding is going well. Fettle, I thought your advice was fab by the way

Right, going to post this now before I lose it all...

Bodkin · 15/08/2007 12:13

Babymad - just read your birth story, really well written - hope you keep a copy of it for yourself in years to come! You have inspired me to do mine properly now. I felt the same after Isla was born - quite shell-shocked as it had all happened sooooo quickly and although I did a bit of skin to skin at first, really, I just wanted to get cleaned up and get in the bath and be on my own just like you did. After the bath though, I was on cloud nine and right as rain.

iampgatlast · 15/08/2007 13:37

hi ladies

i have just had a quick skim read but havnt got time to post anything massive.

i had my mw appointment yesterday and heard my very fidgety babies hearbeat - it was such a special moment everything suddenly became real
we decided to have the triple test done but lo and behold the mw could not get blood from me again! so i am back up the hospital on monday for it. she did say in future they wont attempt bloods i will just go straight to the hospital for them but its such a pain in the arse!
dp was over the moon and went out and brought me literally every type of soft drink you can imagine, milkshake (3 flavours plus galaxy flavour) ribena, fresh pineapple and tonnes more we have been getting on so much better the past week and i think a lot of our problems actually stemmed from me being a raving psycho bitch!

chooster - thanks for offering you moses basket to me, we are in the middle of moving as you know but soon as we are settled imight take you up on that. glad theo is piling on the weight.

mrs - i was going to ask you about a doula the other day to see if you had decided. i looked into it for myself but my mum is dead against it and said she will be there. but i think its a great idea. I dont really have an opinion on your other question as with my labour i am not going to plan i just want to see what happens - is that too carefree?!

god i really have to go but has anyone read the thread about lister hospital vs L&D, the L&D is where is shall be having my baby and i have heard some bad stuff about it - its quite nerve racking!!

3 more sleeps and i fond out the flavour of my babe xxxxxx

bye xxxx

Bodkin · 15/08/2007 15:53

Typical, the one day I can post at my leisure and you've all buggered off...

Hi Iampg - glad to hear things are going better with you and your DP... good luck with your scan if I don't manage to get back on before you have it

Have ordered my bunting off Ebay, for DD1 v. cute laura ahsley with teacups and cakes on it, for DD2 gingham and strawberries - am now officially Shabby Chic

fettleandminifettle · 15/08/2007 16:04

I'm here Bodders - but you've probably gone off now!!! I should be unpacking boxes, but DH and DD have gone to the tip with load one of packing paper to get rid of! We think we've managed to throw away a wooden elephant of DD's - hoping that she will forget about it soon enough, but tis a shame - this has definitely been the most accident/broken move we've had yet! We've lost the elephant, broken a glass and a glass lampshade and the movers broke some china. Don't ever want to move again at the moment. Can't work out if this move seems worse than normal because I'm pg, DD is obviously bored and not really helping (which I shouldn't expect anyway). But we'll get there!!

Greedy - on the settling in front, I think DD is quite happy - her room is an oasis of calm in the chaos of the rest of house - would quite like to get a book and curl up on her chair!! But must get on!!

What exactly is bunting by the way? Reminds me of village fairs, but i'm imagining that must be different bunting to what you are all making!! I'm a rubbish mother on that front!!

Anyone else got this incredible rain today - poor DD's sportsday was cancelled again. Hopefully next week now, but it means that DH can't come and watch and she was so excited about showing him how fast she can run - heart-breaking!

Anyway, must get on!! back later

fettleandminifettle · 15/08/2007 16:06

BTW just seen that bump picture - that can't be real!!! Poor girl - how does she walk upright - with that bump and my boobs, I'd fall straight on my face as soon as I tried to walk anywhere!

Bodkin · 15/08/2007 17:14

That picture is unbelievable isn't it?! Poor woman! And did you read how heavy her DS was - 12lbs something!!! that should make Firsty feel a bit better!

BTW I was PMSL at the thought of you and Greedy bent over the scales weighing your knockers!

greedygreedyguzzler · 16/08/2007 15:11

where is everyone today hey?!!!

fettle - the bunting you imagine, is actually the right sort of bunting!!!! sounds a bit grim doesnt it, but it does look pretty, honest!!!
fettle, i have some questions for you........
how far away from your old house have you moved? will you still be able to see all the same old friends?
have you definately got the all clear on the liver thing this time round then?
and.............can you believe we only have 6 weeks left?

bodders - how much was your bunting by the way? please tell me it cost loads otherwise i will be upset i went to all the trouble of making it!!! and did you get a letter about MA to let you know you were geting it or did it just start appearing in your account? i havent heard anything yet!

i am back home AGAIN now, and i think we will e staying put now. its chaos, but we are slowly getting there i think!

my dh is painting one of our rooms and i have just left the kids at the childminders so that i can help him. he said " i have done all the high up bits and just left the low down bits for you!" charming!!! doesnt he realise i cant bend in the middle and crawling around on a plasterboard floor isnt my idea of fun!!!! i think i will find something easier to do instead!!!! must go and get changed into my maternity decorating clothes!!!

honeyapple · 16/08/2007 15:24

Hi Greedy

What about the personal joy and satisfaction of having made your own bunting.... I think things often work out cheaper just to buy them already made .

I was crouching about painting skirting boards in the bathroom yesterday. You have to get in an all fours position to stop it hurting!

I'm sitting next to hamster and I can smell him. . Havent cleaned it out for a while, well that's a nice job for the afternoon. Cant complain, been playing rounders in the park with DC earlier... until the rain stopped play.

Going camping next week, so hope the sun shines for us.

Bodkin · 16/08/2007 15:50

Aaaah, the sweet smell of hamster wee.... [nostalgic emoticon]

Bunting was about £11 for 3 metres (inc. postage) so thought that was a bit of a bargain. One lot has arrived already! Its gorgeous and properly stitched, no wonderweb here ya know As for the personal joy and satisfaction - well, I've just made a baby, that's enough satisfaction for a while

Greedy - I think with the MA I got a form that i had to send back when I finished work and I had to say when I wanted to start the MA being paid (I asked for it to start a few weeks before Isla was born) Then it just started rolling in on that date. I think that's how it went anyway.

Bodkin · 16/08/2007 15:52

And you lot were all laughing at me redecorating my kitchen with mere weeks to go - and look at you all!

Good to have you back Fettle wow, can?t believe your growth scan is on Tuesday the time is going quickly! I have to say, I was quite shocked to discover that I am into my fifth month now better enjoy the nice bit hey?! sorry to hear about the Denby ? make sure you get full value back and then buy back your stuff in the sale allowing you to add a few extra pieces

Honeyapple we always have fruit and nut lurking in our fridge these days

Lovely long posts from you Bodders thanks for your views on the 3rd stage, I think I?ll try and do it naturally but if I get fed up of waiting and want to get clean, I think I?ll opt for the injection then! Agree with you ? much respect to placentas, amazing things (though not pretty!) thanks for the palm trick ? I?ll get DH to practice! Hope all is well with Isla That bunting sounds gorgeous!

Iampg ? hello exciting to hear the HB hon! Shame about the bloods, that must be stressful. So glad things are getting better with DP that?s nice that your Mum wants to be at the birth ? I personally wouldn?t want my mother to be there ? she and I clash in stressful situations. Nice to be carefree I just know that I?ll be much calmer on the day if I?ve read all I can and know what they are talking about ? I know that I?m unlikely to get all I want but at least I?ll understand the options better if I?ve planned didn?t know you were finding out the flavour that is REALLY exciting! Ready thinks I am going to have a boy, I don?t have a clue!

Anyone go through a stage of feeling really paranoid and lacking in self confidence? I feel as if I can?t do a thing right at work and as if no one likes me there and then I think about how off I am with my PIL sometimes and wonder if I?m just horrible

Greedy ? working from home today, done nothing but housework

That lady?s bump was pretty amazing!!

MrsMcJnr · 16/08/2007 16:43

Crossed with you Firsty love the way you talk about your little boy thanks for all our useful info, especially about the spinal block x

fettleandminifettle · 16/08/2007 17:57

Hi all

Just back from a mammoth shop in John Lewis and Ikea in Bristol - expensive this moving into an empty, newish house!! Need to put in bathroom accessories, coat pegs, storage in the garage etc. Still haven't even thought about starting on the garden yet - just got a clothes drier, in case the summer comes back! And DH has his eyes on a shed! Anyway, lots of movement, losts of gasps with braxton hicks in Ikea, that nearly got us some free shopping and now my hips are killing me - so I'm sitting with my feet up while DH and DD make things!!!

You are right Bodders - why are we doing this so close to B-day!!!

Firsty - so good to hear from you. Baby blues are horrible - I don't think people talk about them enough beforehand, so it can come as a bit of shock, suddenly feeling so utterly wretched when you think you should be feeling on top of the world with your little baby. Don't you worry at all about not breast-feeding - you tried and that is all you can do - sounds as if Ty is a huge boy and needs a realiable source. Besides you are right, it does help that DH's can do night feeds with a bottle!!. You keep looking after yourself.

Mrs - housework and not real working - I can really tell you are blooming!!!

Honey - rounders in the park - so wish I hadn't got my hip problem again this time around - I can barely walk anymore, let alone run.

Greedy - no, I cannot believe we only have 6 weeks left [DH has just put the legs on the wrong way round on the step he is building trying not to laugh, but had to share with you all!!].
Anyway, Greeds - bit concerning that I had DD 2 weeks from now! This whole pregnancy has been different as I haven't yet been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis - not out of the woods until after the birth, as it can come on at any time, but it is supposed to start earlier with subsequent pregnancies, so I think I might actually have been lucky! Just have to hope baby turns and goes front to back to make labour as easy as possible! Can't kneel on all 4s Firsty, due to hip pain - well actually I probably can, but I wouldn't be able to get up!!

What else did you ask? We've moved about 40 miles, but didn't really know anyone where we were as we'd only been there since just before Christmas last year and working full-time you don't really get a chance to meet people near-by. We used to live here 3 years ago, before DD was born, but most people we knew then from here have moved on. However, I'm now 20 mins away from my best friend, who's DD's Godmother (But she's forces as well, so may well be moving away again in December!!). Being on maternity leave, hopefully we'll meet people pretty soon. There's a really lovely Church here, where we were very happy before, so i'm hoping for some young(ish) mothers there!

Anyway, that's loads about me.

Bunting sounds interesting! Still not quite sure how I envisage it in a bedroom?

From a normal full-time working mother, who's finally sitting with her feet up in front of rubbish daytime telly - how come the whole cast of Neighbours has changed!! Only recognised Paul Robinson, Harold and Susan and Karl - am I really that old now?!! But then I knew that as one of the 'grown-ups' at DD's nursery is called Charlene! So has to be of a certain age, I suppose!!

Take care all [bet is was quiet without me!!
xxx

honeyapple · 16/08/2007 19:08

evening all

Fettle- not much running from me in the rounders match! I just hit it and got DD to run!
Crikey, can't believe you and Greedy are so close to D-day . Are you sorted for the imminent arrival? I havent got anything yet.

Firsty- great post . Glad to hear things settling down with Ty. Sorry to hear you had a mare with bf, but glad to hear all ok now. Did you post a piccie of him yet?

mrs- mmmm fruit and nut... now you've set me off! I found a bit of an old galaxy bar that DP had bought we a while ago. Don't really like galaxy, but it hit the spot! Really fancy some more rubbish right now but just had an apple instead.... didnt really do it!

Just had some new sitting room furniture delivered... so I've been sorting through our CD collection and MAN is there some BAD stuff lurking in there. DS and DD are having fun listening to some seriously dodgy items... I mean Shaggy for goodness sake... and Right Said Fred... where did they come from... I reckon they are hangers on from DPs prehoneyapple era! Mind you there were a few jazzy numbers of mine that had to go to...

fettleandminifettle · 16/08/2007 19:43

Shaggy, Right Said Fred - now I know I'm old as I remember them!!!!

honey - liking your idea of rounders!! Have to say I got DD to push the trolley around the warehouse section of Ikea. Not bad driver really, but i did see people run out of her way when they saw her coming!

Also glad to hear you are doing some good style nesting, Honey!! I'm thoroughly pi**ed off with my nesting efforts - I want an organised house, but there's stuff everywhere! I want to be able to concentrate on my baby coming - I'm assuming we've got everything from DD still. But not entirely sure where and I'm sure carseat will need a good scrub out. Just feeling slightly out of control at the moment. There's someone on the pg after mc thread who's due the day before me and not moving until the end of August - not sure how she is going to do it!!
