Hi ladies, thought I’d start another thread as the original one is closed and don’t think anyone has started a new one yet? I’m sure there are more ladies I should tag!

@Jummynbean My bump is apparently measuring 2 weeks ahead. It is huge! It'll be interesting to see whether it's just all water (fingers crossed) when I get my scan. With DD being only 6lb 4oz I never felt "the ring of fire" pushing her out, I'm praying for similar 😂 She was a month early so I might not be so lucky this time!
Since I've had to check my blood glucose levels 4 times a day I have come to realise it isn't sugar that makes my glucose levels go through the roof, its carbs such as pastry, bread and noodles! I can eat a very large bar of chocolate and my glucose barely rises Hmm

@Mayjane5 OMG I discovered the cartons of ready made formula too when I had DD last year! I think that's how I got her into such a good night routine. I kept a couple of the small cartons in the bedroom so when she woke her bottle was ready in seconds so they whole night feed from start to finish only took 30 minutes and it was back to bed till morning. Mistake I made was I started to warm her milk, after a while she refused room temperature milk. I use the tommee tippee bottle maker now, can't live without it 😅

Mayjane5 · 28/04/2019 08:51

@Bunnybaubles I’ve got next midwife appointment this week so will see what I’m measuring. Is it the perfect prep machine you have? Is it worth it then? Didn’t have it with my first but people say it’s really good

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 11:58

@Mayjane5 I have 2 of them, one for downstairs and one in the bedroom for night feeds Grin

They are definitely worth it. They make the bottle to the perfect temperature in under a minute. It's so easy to use and much cheaper than the ready to use formula, although I still buy ready to use when I go out with DD. My DD is 10 months old now and I have her push the button to make her bottle. She loves it.

Only issue is that the smallest bottle it makes is 4oz so you will get a couple oz waste when your baby is a newborn and only takes 2oz. If you can live with that then I'd recommend it.

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 11:59

Sorry, yes it's the perfect prep I have.

MrsC87 · 28/04/2019 12:50

Hi ladies, lurker here, I've also just been diagnosed with GD and have the diabetic nurse Mom, growth scan Tues. doing a lot of research about the diet and trying to make changes this weekend before the appointment.
For some reason the mention online of not going full term has set me off into panic mode, I'm currently putting bits together for my hospital bag and I'm only 28+5 🙈

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 14:16

@MrsC87 This is my 2nd pregnancy with GD. My understanding is if you can control your glucose levels with diet alone and the growth scans are ok then they wont induce you early. They only induce you early if your GD is controlled by medication, and its usually between 37 and 39 weeks depending on the growth scan results.

I'm clearly getting induced Blush

MrsC87 · 28/04/2019 16:02

Have you been induced before @Bunnybaubles?
I've not heard great things about being induced 🙈

Mayjane5 · 28/04/2019 16:33

@Bunnybaubles that sounds great for the nighttime feeds I think I will be getting one. @MrsC87 is this your first? I think it’s definitely hard not to go into panic mode, good to be prepared though puts your mind at ease. I forgot about all the little extra we need for the hospital and after birth. I had an induction at 38 weeks with my first the process itself was good she just happened to get stuck and ended with a section which wasn’t to do with being induced. Speak to your midwife etc to get a better understanding of how they carry it out ☺️

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 16:47

@@MrsC87 yeh, I've been induced twice. 20 years ago with DS (he was very overdue) and last year with DD (I had pre-eclampsia). And consultants said I'll be getting induced again with this little one.

With DS pessary in at 6.30pm, 4cm dilated by 10pm, DS born, no tears or complications at 11am next morning. I freaked out to begin with cause I was only 17 at the time and was really scared. I also had the flu which didn't help! But once I had the epidural the labour was fine.

DD last year, I suggested they induced me. I was 35+6 and had been in hospital for 2 weeks because they couldn't control my BP. They agreed so I got the pessary at 9am, contracting by 4pm, waters broke around 7am next morning and I was taken to the labour suite. There i was given gas and air while the midwife prepared the morphine and shortly after got my epidural. Then I slept till 1 hr before I had to push. 3 pushes and it was all over at 5.40pm.

So I've had 2 straight forward experiences with induction, no complications or anything. Older DD I went into labour myself. Only difference I thought between induction and spontaneous, apart from spontaneous being a long gradual increase in pain, was with spontaneous you get to have all the excited panic of realising you are in labour and baby is on the way. Induction kinda takes that away.

MrsC87 · 28/04/2019 17:07

Yes @Mayjane5 it is, all new to me so grateful to hear advice and stories. Seeing midwife tomorrow so will have a good chat.
Thankyou @Bunnybaubles it's good to hear other people's stories!
Can you be prepared with induction or is it a quick decision and you're in, I suppose every case is different...I'm slightly ocd with planning and organising, can you tell 🙈

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 17:22

@MrsC87 I guess it depends on the reason for the induction. If it's because of GD and the risk of a very large baby you will get plenty notice. Same if it's because you are over due. Once you reach a few days past your due date they will often organise a date for induction which you may never need as you might end up going into labour yourself. With the pre-eclampsia it was a decision made on the spot and carried out about an hour later.

It is scary, especially the first time. I remember looking at my huge belly in the mirror and I burst out crying, totally sobbing my heart out all terrified thinking how the heck am I going to get this huge bump out of me!! In the end it was 3 little pushes 😂

rosyedith · 30/04/2019 18:34

Anyone else's hair falling out 🙄 thought it was supposed to go thicker 😂

BeckyButterfly · 30/04/2019 20:44

@rosyedith mine isn't falling out but it's so dry and horrible! I have been using treatments and conditioners but nothing makes a difference. It's like straw 😩 everyone kept telling me that your hair is amazing in pregnancy but that's certainly not my experience...!

Mayjane5 · 04/05/2019 19:14

Hi how is everyone doing? Had a growth scan as bump was measuring small, everything is ok. Trying to get everything done before 30 weeks I feel like it’s flying by now especially if they come early 😊

Bellaphant · 04/05/2019 19:49

My hair is actually great, but I cut a lot of it off!

I think my next challenges are the birth plan and getting my list for the hospital bag together. Lots of the baby stuff is at my parents, because they have a car!! I've got my theory test this month though, hoping to be done just before or after baby

Is anyone else taking a short-ish mat leave? I have to as im the main wage earner and I was feeling okay about it but people are starting to make 'helpful' comments.

BeckyButterfly · 04/05/2019 19:53

@Bellaphant I'm the same on the mat leave front. Everyone keeps looking very shocked when I say that I'll be back to work full time in Jan but needs must. I'm a bit nervous about it because baby will only be 5 months and I think I'll be really sad leaving her but it's got to be done unfortunately.

Mayjane5 · 04/05/2019 20:21

@Bellaphant yep I definitely need to get a hospital bag ready for some reason I feel baby will come early!! I forgot about all the extra stuff you need like maternity pads etc for after the birth. @Bellaphant @Beckybutterfly same here only taking 4 months off work I think it’s quite a normal thing now

Bunnybaubles · 04/05/2019 22:39

Had my 28 week growth scan too, but mine was to make sure baby isn't too big! She was within normal range thankfully! It was amazing to see her again, cant wait till my 32 week scan now!

@Bellaphant I've not even thought of my hospital bag yet. I really should start putting things together.

I'm taking my own pillow in this time since pillows are like gold dust in hospital plus my plug in fan. The wards can be roasting, especially in summer!

Hi, hope everyone is well. Can't believe I'm 29 weeks today. Some days it still doesn't seem real as I've wanted it for so long!
Pleased to read I'm not the only one who hasn't started a hospital bag yet.
We had a few days away last week, photo of bump from it below Smile
I've got to go for an anti D injection on Friday. Has anyone had this as well? I keep being told they're horrible! I've had one before at 15 weeks as I went in via A&E and it wasn't that bad I thought but perhaps it was the adrenaline that blocked it out?
We still haven't been pram/car seat shopping yet. Any suggestions as to the best place to go for a wide range and helpful staff!

@Vicks82 lovely bump pic 🙂 I'm 29 weeks today too! It is exciting, I feel like once you hit 30 weeks it's just countdown from there.

I made a list of things I need to pack in my hospital bag so that's kind of like getting it sorted isn't it..? 😂 I'm good at writing lists but not so good at actually carrying out what is on the list haha.

Mothercare have a really good selection of prams but I've found that the staff don't really know anything! I just went to Mothercare and tried some out that were within my price range. I then just did online research to find out about the ones I liked in the shop and chose the one I wanted.
Sometimes more local shops are better but it depends if you have any near you. We have a lovely little pram shop near us and the staff were really helpful but it worked out cheaper to buy from Mothercare which is a shame.

We just bought our car seat online. It was actually on Emma's Diary and was a really good deal. Again, I just did a bit of online research before buying.

Mayjane5 · 08/05/2019 20:46

@Vicks82 lovely pic I’m a week behind you, I haven’t got a pram/car seat yet, but did have a look. Went to mothercare as they have a wide choice on display. I would research online first especially with the car seat, we have a joie stages now for my daughter so may get tha again or a maxi cosi. I can’t decide if to go for the complete travel system this time. Last time we didn’t get much use of the pram but this was mainly due to being a winter birth and recovering from a section so first couple of months I didn’t get our much. Later on we preferred to use a baby sling/carrier I found the pram too bulky. This time though being a summer birth I hope to be out more so may go for a more compact pram/buggy type and a decent carrier. It really does depend on your lifestyle how often you’ll be out etc for choosing a pram.

Bellaphant · 09/05/2019 19:17

I'm 31 weeks today! Baby measured above the percentile curve at 28 weeks but is back at the top of it now - little worried that if it's still hitting the middle of average next time then we are going to get a growth scan, because it's not escalating quick enough.

Starting a pyshio-gym class once a week next week because of my hips and had our first nct class this week! Printed out the NHS birth plan, need to fill it in and make that hospital list: I think I need to go shopping!!!

Bellaphant · 09/05/2019 19:21

Oh, also, we got our travel system from an end of line shop - got a fantastic deal, but it's in last years' fabric. Apparently some people are put off by that! But it's worth a Google to see what's around.

Delilah7 · 09/05/2019 20:56

Random one for everyone - I've got spare baby shower games that my friends have given me, I won't be using them and they've obviously never been used. One is rude lol the rest seem ok! If you'd like them I'm happy to post them to someone to save them buying them :) see picture attached!

Thanks for your replies.

Interested to hear your thoughts. Sounds like a trip to Mothercare to try them out and do our own research before and after. The closest one is about 30 miles away so just wanted to make the most of our time there.

@Mayjane5 I'm hoping that we'll be out and about quite a bit too as its summer, I love walking, so will keep that in mind too.

@Bellaphant last year's fabric really wouldn't bother us either, but then I've never been one to follow fashion! Hope the classes help with your hips. How was your nct class? Ours start beginning of June.

@BeckyButterfly Well a list is more than I've done so far, so it's a good start 😁 I'm also good at writing lists and then stopping at that, I must make a real effort to do it this weekend though!
