I agree. Nine months is too long to go without food

beansprout · 29/06/2007 17:40

Not eating for 9 months is pretty risky. But is lysteria really the alternative?

MamaMaiasaura · 29/06/2007 21:48

What a weird day on mumsnet. Why so narky cod over this

I wasnt even sure if it was ok to eat philli and I am not a 1st time mum. I had a long time of ttc and feel like a first time mum all over again. Been quite anxious and worried over any possibl risks as tried for a long time for this pregnancy. I think it is a bit unfair to start this thread because we are all guilty of asking daft questions at times in others eyes. Why does this piss people off, it isnt like it was an offensive thread.

Tutter · 29/06/2007 21:49

cod, praps you should find yourself a non-parenting website for a while

fgs, stroppy fish

NikkiBFG · 29/06/2007 21:53

Awen - I agree with you.

When I was pregs with DS I didn't even go near any cats and I absolutely love them.

You may have thought that I was over the top but I'm profoundly deaf (not as a result of anything like that I may add) but I know what its like to have a disability so I was red hot with anything remotely linked to things that could cause problems.

People worry - let 'em go and just help them when you can - that is what this site is for!

Tutter · 29/06/2007 21:53

god cod you've really pissed me off with this

really

sweetkitty · 29/06/2007 21:59

As I said further down I'm an expert in food safety (or was) and (and this is totally sad) a Listeria expert. I usually point people in the direction of the Food Standards Agency website which has excellent advice on what not to eat whilst pregnant.

It's such a grey area though as different countries have different advice, in France I believe you are told to eat as much Brie as you can but to get rid of your cat for fear of toxoplasmosis, in another country it's no smoked salmon and prawns.

Some posters are genuinely frightened that they have harmed their baby by eating a prawn sarnie at lunchtime bless them. Can't we have a mix of advice and daft threads?

Caz10 · 29/06/2007 22:01

I thought the whole idea of somewhere like MN is that there are no questions which are too silly?

Only sill people it seems...

maisym · 29/06/2007 22:03

if you're not pregnant then just ignore the threads - people can ask what they want not just what you think acceptable.

CountTo10 · 29/06/2007 22:07

I love the fact that we can discuss housekeeping, terrorism and anal sex, but my god - ask a question about what you can and can't eat in pg and you are sooooo annoying and wrong

skirmish · 29/06/2007 22:10

i love the fact this is still going on!!

angelcake99 · 30/06/2007 14:15

Grow up! Its a parenting web site, we are allowed to ask these kind of questions! If you don't like it then don't read them!

donnie · 30/06/2007 14:29

blimey, it's still going then!

kyala · 30/06/2007 20:37

let's face it you can get food poisoning any time from just about anything that's been wrapped in plastic, and if it's not it should be!!
I think Cod's right on one hand, if you've got half a brain don't eat things like pre-cooked rice (or ANYTHING from that dodg indian down your road!!)
Fresh fruit and veggies, washed and prepared by you, and some nice, well cooked meat from your friednly local butcher eh?!

Ooh look at me! Bloody Dr Gillian!!! Why is SHE always on the telly?!!!

MamaMaiasaura · 30/06/2007 21:12

Kyala - the point is why start a thread so agressively about something that really is not your business. afaik cod is not pregnant and also why shouldnt people be allowed to ask questions. SO what if others already know it, it is called reassurance at what can be a worrying time - first trimester, prev m/c, loads of ttc, first baby etc etc the list goes on. SO I dont agree with Cod on this one.

softmusk · 30/06/2007 21:27

maybe a thread should be started called

dont u hate it when people put u down when all u are doing is asking advice so u can but ur unborn baby first

Desiderata · 30/06/2007 21:33

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGLE!!!

Desiderata · 30/06/2007 21:33

And just what are you doing in hospital, UCM?

MrsBadger · 30/06/2007 21:35

cod you are funny and intolerant

but there is an awful lot of scaremongering and misinformation out there

not all pregnant women are clever enough to distinguish fact from fallacy, or to find the FSA site

ok it's along story, possible appendix (shoulder pain as well) but turned out to be a great big gooey cyst on my beatiful ovary. I will have to have surgery on it to make it prettily oval again or it wont look right.
