donnie · 29/06/2007 14:28

I ate everything during my 2nd pregnancy and also got pissed all the time, smoked 40 bensons daily and snorted coke. My dd is in good health ( I am fucked though).

Fimbo · 29/06/2007 14:28

LOL, I think you (and only you) should have an extinquish button and then you could zapp all the threads you don't like into thin air!

I know a girl who lost her baby at 27 weeks after getting servere food poisoning. If it was nothing to worry about, we wouldn't be constantly warned about food safety in pregnancy. I fully think it's something to be extremely careful about and it is good to talk to other pg people!

skirmish · 29/06/2007 14:29

started thread at midday - still going...that's my best effort yet!

you sorted out your whole white trews dilemma yet cod?!

I agree Cod the worlds gone mad, maybe all pregnant women should be allowed to eat are those sterile meal things astronauts have, mmm tasty.

Listeria is very rare nowadays, you would have to be unlucky enough to eat food containing it, then it's got to contain enough to make you ill (very rare IME), then it's got to survive your stomach, grow in your gut, cross the placenta and damage the baby, very rare I would say.

I don't avoid anything when pregnant (well apart from alcohol which is very safe, oh the irony) pity we couldn't douse all food in alcohol that would solve the problem

skirmish · 29/06/2007 14:31

oh, i've have the odd glass of vino mind you!

RGPargy · 29/06/2007 14:32

Alcohol is safe??????

Right that's it!! I'M OFF TO THE PUB!!!!

donnie · 29/06/2007 14:33

meths are cheaper.

Bibis · 29/06/2007 14:33

When you are pregnant with your pfb you don't realise quite how tedious you sound to all those around you who have been there, done that, got the children to prove it.

During pg no 1 i avoided all foods and drinks I was meant to avoid, by the time of pg number 4 I ate and drank whatever I wanted to. Guess what, dc4 is by far the healthiest.

Cod just humour them, they will realise soon enough that they are being total arses

franch · 29/06/2007 14:35

I agree with VP actually - it's very easy for those of us who already have our kids to be facetious/dismissive of pg women's concerns.

Especially if you've had trouble conceiving or have had miscarriages, you can end up understandably paranoid and should be allowed a little leeway.

Did you never ask a stupid question while pg for the 1st time??? Not one????

skirmish · 29/06/2007 14:35

ooohh...look what i started!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 29/06/2007 14:35

It's going to be fresh herbs next (after someone got salmonella from basil) - you mark my words.
And then people will be asking if any herbs are safe to eat, and assuming not, just to be on the safe side, and you will be going round for dinner at people's house and they will be saying brightly, 'I know you're pregnant so I made you some plain rice with no flavourings or salt whatsoever. It's been boiled for 3 days so you'll be quite safe' while everybody else scoffs delicious pizza with blue cheese and parma ham.

Have a little feeling then for us first timers who worry every minute of every day, sorry if we're not as experienced, cut us a little slack
