When you're told not to eat soft cheese, of course Philly will be questioned.

This is a parenting site - and over-bearing non-specific gvt health publicity does nothing at all for the mental health of a pregnant woman - be nice, be helpful and give them a break!

Blu · 29/06/2007 15:54

suzycreamcheese - are you pasteurised?

nannyjo · 29/06/2007 16:00

i get so wound up by people that start threads that are in no way helpful to anyone but are clearly going to upset some!!!!!!

So what if people aren't sure about what they can eat, it doesn't hurt to ask surely after all isn't this site for that reason???

If i had posted a 'what can i eat thread' and saw this it would put me off using this site again incase i got ridiculed for starting a new thread again.

I think sometimes some people on here need to learn to have a little sensitivity and consideration for others a bit more.

It is very easy to become paranoid in your pregnancy especially if it is your first and i think this was not necessary to start IMO.

Sorry moan over

dassie · 29/06/2007 16:02

NannyJo - I agree.

WideWebWitch · 29/06/2007 16:02

Icod, only read OP but absolbloodylutely. You would NOT BELIEVE some of the things people I know are saying they can't eat/do

WideWebWitch · 29/06/2007 16:05

lol at KathyISIH re herbs etc, abosolutely.

I have heard recently:

"I can't fly" (10 weeks, wtf?)
"I can't have sour cream"
"I can't do light gardening for medical reasons." (i.e. pregnant)
"I don't think I can eat sour cream"

wtfkingf?

suzycreamcheese · 29/06/2007 16:10

suzycreamcheese · 29/06/2007 16:12

kathy6inches..
..the food examples are funny and i havent read this thread but isnt it just pre-pfb?? in alot of cases...so quite funny really, sweet even?..

Naetha · 29/06/2007 16:18

I wish I couldn't work for pregnancy reasons, unfortunately this just doesn't cut it with my boss

Mercy · 29/06/2007 16:18

lol at 'listeria hysteria'

Actually WWW if you have had a previous miscarriage then you are meant to get advice before flying in the early weeks of pregnancy (or indeed ohter probs which may have occured in a previous pregnancy)

Bibis · 29/06/2007 16:20

Invited someone to dinner once, didn't know she was pg.

Cooked celery & stilton soup, followed by something with chicken livers in followed by cheesecake. She didn't eat a thing.

DH lost his cool when she shooed the cat away as there was a chance she might catch toxoplasmosis. DH replied 'oh yes we have taught them to shit on peoples faces' !!!!

(was pfb, obviously), even she laughs about it now.

nannyjo · 29/06/2007 16:20

also if you've had a previous m?c then surely you would be quite normal to ask these Q's even if you know deep down the answers but some times you need reassurance to stop being paranoid.

nannyjo · 29/06/2007 16:20

sorry meant m/c

lisad123 · 29/06/2007 16:21

Maybe the rain has got everyone down. this post is not helpful at all. If people asking can i eat this bothers you so much, dont read them!!
And heaven forbid pregnant ladies dont know the answer to all questions, unlike you.

ahundredtimes · 29/06/2007 16:25

There's something about this though - not people feeling worried and posting - but about WHY they feel worried in the first place. Pregnancy seems to be alive with dangers these days, I think it must be very wearing for everyone, and not especially empowering. It's like Pregnancy is fill of hidden horrors and all women need a handbook.

Not very healthy really. Not good for confidence either.

Worrying is not good for pregnancy either!

ahundredtimes · 29/06/2007 17:14

Earnest AND dull.

Desiderata · 29/06/2007 17:19

I agree with the OP. It's all this 'mumsy' stuff that makes MN so boring.

beansprout · 29/06/2007 17:20

Oh absolutely. It should just be here to entertain a small group of people. All those women just needing advice should go elsewhere!

LazyLine · 29/06/2007 17:23

COD, you need to start dishing this page out to people

weebleswobble · 29/06/2007 17:23

I have the urge to start a thread "I'm not pregnant - can I eat anything?"

Desiderata · 29/06/2007 17:24

Quite so, beany.

beansprout · 29/06/2007 17:24

I like that google link. That applies in general. The threads I really hate are the "URGENT - can anyone tell me if it's raining outside" type stuff. FFS you are already on the interweb, just GOOGLE it lazybones.

OrmIrian · 29/06/2007 17:30

FFS! It's a baby's life you're talking about. Surely nine months isn't too long to go without food????? Is it really worth the risk....?
