Rufus is a super cool name!

pointydog · 27/06/2007 17:32

ruff!

PBirdy · 27/06/2007 17:33

Sorry yes, it is cute, but to me it is a dog's name

lljkk · 27/06/2007 17:33

haven't read whole thread, but honest answer: Yes.
Ditto for Poppy and Molly.
None of those as bad as Rex, of course, and I once met a 40-something man named Rex.

BandofMuggles · 27/06/2007 17:36

I like Rufus.
Esp Rufus Sewell

Desiderata · 27/06/2007 17:38

OK if your surname isn't Doofus.

Rufus is gorgeous - especially if he has red hair.

i think it's a dog name but it's your baby so it's up to you

mckenzie · 27/06/2007 17:50

I love the name Rufus and it was on my list of names for boht of my DCs. I did have a pony once called Rufus and I do know a dog called Rufus but then I also know a pony called Gloria, a dog called Paula and a horse called Jemima

Professorfilthymindedvixen · 27/06/2007 18:04

IMO Max is a dog's name, as is Sam/Ben/Benjy/Toby so really don't see a problem with Rufus..

Apologies to anyone with children called any of thoses names - do like them, but I always imagine small terriers and droopy labradors when \i hear people calling them.

LoveAngel · 27/06/2007 18:32

I have to admit I hate the name Rufus. Definitely a dogs name or an incredibly posh drippy bloke's name for me. Names have such incredibly different connotations for different people, though. Seriously, I would go with whaT t YOU like.

PavlovtheCat · 27/06/2007 18:33

I had a dog called Rufus . Sorry

MrRuffalo · 27/06/2007 18:33

i know a baby one - cute

Quattrocento · 27/06/2007 18:33

Rufus - sorry - does feel a bit canine

pointydog · 27/06/2007 20:26

This whole dog's name thing is a bit ridickilous anyway.

Dogs should be called rover, shadow, fang, etc.

How come they seem to now monopolise human names like Ben, Rufus and Poppy?

Don't play second fiddle to dogs.

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 20:26

Yes.

It's the name of an Irish setter.

pointydog · 27/06/2007 20:26

is still boho posh

ktmoomoo · 27/06/2007 20:27

erm it is a bit

expatinscotland · 27/06/2007 20:28

Think, 'Ruf! Ruf!'

As in a dog, barking. An Irish setter, for example.

pointydog · 27/06/2007 20:29

yes expat! (I posted the same earlier.)

mamimwnci · 27/06/2007 20:43

Hi, just looked down the thread, Two of my three boys are called Ben and Rory, and I have a dog called Toby! So according to some here I have a very doggy family!! I think Rufus sounds more posh than doggy..But I say go with what you like, you'll only regret it if you don't and anyway kids grow into their names and after a while you can't imagine them as anything else.
