@Crossfitgirl ah damn that's such a tempting offer! Just a 3hr drive :)

Yeah perhaps that was the reason, insurance reasons, saw something about blood flow being redirected being an issue also. Perhaps I'll check with my usual place first!

EltzBee · 09/01/2019 18:56

DH had a spa day booked for my 30th, he rang them when we found out I'd be 5 weeks pregnant and we had to cancel it. Have to rebook it for either after 12 weeks or after preg. But won't be able to use any of the steam rooms etc.

Nausea absolutely awful today, nearly been sick a few times. Exhausted!

mrsof20118 · 09/01/2019 19:27

I tried booking for a pregnancy massage at neals yard and even they won't touch me until after 12 weeks. Something to do with risk of being sued if you miscarried. Got one booked in for next for 22nd and I can't wait!

Crossfitgirl · 09/01/2019 19:28

@cookiewaffle it's all very much "just in case someone sues me" in my opinion. I googled it and there's so much shit on there like "massage improves your immunity which may make your body reject the baby". REALLY?! In turn, ANY relaxation could improve your immunity so does that mean we shouldn't relax? It's all about there being no evidence to say things are definitely OK (as it's generally difficult to ethically do studies on pregnant people), so best not do any of it just in case!!

Anyway, sorry rant over haha.

I very much like things to be evidence based and I guess because of my profession I'm very much against all the scare mongering and society basically rendering mums to be as invalids who must not do anything at all. My DH doesn't even want me to go to the gym - despite the fact it will keep me fit, healthy and better cope with labour, my friend even appeared shocked when I said I'm continuing crossfit if I can, and she said omg please don't!!! I mean, jesus. Evidence shows it is Good for you and the baby! These old fashioned values just can't be shifted.

This is why we are all so bloody scared and anxious and dare not do anything!

I can totally see why we need to Google everything and feel the need to not do things just in case though...

it's natural to not want to do anything that could cause harm, even if it's just a tiny risk - we would blame ourselves and second guess everything we did if God forbid there was an issue with the pregnancy.

Anyway sorry, total massive rant. Just had to get all that out lol so sorry!!

Here's the woman who didn't dare cough too hard at week 3 and 4 in case I coughed the little bean out!!! 😂😂😂

CookieWaffle · 09/01/2019 19:57

Oh I totally get it @Crossfitgirl, rant away! I didn't wanna be ones of those over cautious mums as I think you can go a bit too crazy. But I never know what to believe!

ChaosMoon · 09/01/2019 20:13

Oh my goodness, I've missed so much! But so glad I caught your rant @Crossfitgirl. Top quality and entirely after my own heart.

@MrsEG and @mrsof20118 I'm so glad all is ok. Big hugs.

Congratulations @GemmaJen! I think I'd left the TTC thread when you joined. Lovely to meet you now!

Other things :

Books - I loved French Children Don't Their Food. But mostly I love the Your Parenting Mojo podcast, which isn't a book but is a phenomenal evidence based source of information. Mostly about toddlers though.

Clothes - why can you not try things on in store when pregnant? I am so bad at shopping online at the best of times. That said, I've got some gorgeous stuff from Seraphine in their sales.

And I've already forgotten everything else. Bloody baby brain.

MrsEG · 09/01/2019 20:40

@Crossfitgirl I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think pregnant women can end up wrapped in cotton wool and sometimes it goes way too far! I’ve also had comments from people about continuing to exercise. I try my best to be informed, but not to go crazy. But like you say, I also panic every time I sneeze......

@ChaosMoon Thank you lovely. Had more bloods today and HCG has risen again. Still spotting though so they are doing a TV scan tomorrow to see if they can figure out why, as on my external check there were no abrasions or anything like that. So FX for that! But bloods all looking good. I’m so pleased the hospital are being so thorough about it!

Crossfitgirl · 09/01/2019 21:17

@chaosmoon thanks for the book and podcast recommendations. I'm gonna have to start screenshotting stuff so i remember to look at it!

I went maternity clothes shopping the other day and it was ridiculous. Next - no maternity section. M&S - all nursing bras, no maternity bras, couldn't find a maternity section. Matalan - only one rack in the whole shop was maternity consisting of one top, 2 types of horrible trousers and a cardigan! I even went to new look and there was no maternity section there!!! And I had literally only gone for maternity clothes!! Maybe my town is just shit and has small shops lol.

As a person who generally hates shopping so only goes when I need something, and also as a person who doesn't like online shopping as I hate not trying stuff on, I have made life difficult for myself but at this time I have resigned to either going to mamas and papas or mothercare and spending a fortune, or just doing it all online and ordering multiple sizes of everything!

mrsof20118 · 09/01/2019 21:30

@crossfitgirl I hear you on the rant. MIL had the cheek to say that I shouldn't be drinking when pregnant (was in the pub having tea with a soft drink!) yet she seemed outraged that I didn't want to sit in her flat when she smokes in there. It's my body and I'll make my own decisions!
I got some not very attractive bras from m and s and they are sooooo comfy www.marksandspencer.com/2-pack-maternity-padded-full-cup-nursing-bras/p/p60127140?image=SD_02_T33_0738A_T4_X_EC_90&color=GREYMIX&prevPage=plp

Crossfitgirl · 09/01/2019 21:49

@mrsof20118 no way, those are the exact ones I bought!! Wish they'd had them in those colours, mine are black and white. The pink and grey are prettier!
But agreed - sooooo comfy. And hopefully they'll still fit us for breastfeeding when baby comes so a good investment! Enjoyed showing DH how I can just pop my boob out of it haha.

Anyone having much sex at the mo? I feel a bit bad for DH as he winced when I got my boob out and told me to put it away as if it was just teasing him. He hasn't tried it on with me at all since I started feeling poo, but I can tell he is suffering a bit!! I've hardly felt like it these past few weeks so glad for the non pressure, but do feel bad. Specially as he's being so nice to me and looking after me so much. I feel like I want to be intimate with him, as I feel like that emotionally, but it's also the last thing my body feels like doing at the mo. Think we've had sex 3 times since finding out??

MrsEG · 09/01/2019 21:49

@Crossfitgirl ASOS! Free easy returns and tonnes of maternity stuff!

Crossfitgirl · 09/01/2019 21:54

@mrsEG literally on the ASOS website now! Haha. I need some pants. No bump but SOOOO BLOATED! the big Chinese takeaway tonight didn't help. Lol

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 06:38

I hope today goes well @MrsEG. I'm sure it wil.

@Crossfitgirl it's no better her in London. One or two more speciality shops I suppose but I don't really want to bankrupt myself before the baby gets here!

mrsof20118 · 10/01/2019 06:50

@Crossfitgirl bedroom activity has dwindled. Think three times since finding out too. First time I remember feeling really weird and others it just felt too tight down there (tmi)! Been on different working hours so may pick up again now I'm heading to the end of first trimester. I wasn't in the mood either the constant exhaustion meant I was in bed by 8.30 anyway!

EltzBee · 10/01/2019 09:30

We've not dtd since finding out. Too tired mostly but can't get my head around it either lol

Flu jab today. Feeling nervous but it is recommended. 6+5 today.

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 09:50

We probably only dtd a handful of times in the first trimester, because I felt so sick. Made up for it from about week 16/17 when the sickness died down, but now it's getting really hard to find a way to do it that doesn't hurt my back. ☹️ I don't want to give up yet though, not when I mayor be out of action down there for weeks/months after the birth!

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 09:51

It'll be over in a moment @EltzBee, and the sore arm doesn't seem to be as bad this year as it has been with previous strains. 💐

EltzBee · 10/01/2019 09:58

@ChaosMoon fingers crossed! I could really do without side effects and just hoping it doesn't do anything that could hurt little Bean. My head is saying all the evidence is that it is safe which is why it's recommended, and that getting the flu at any stage would be far more dangerous!

That's a good point about not giving up yet with DTD because of after the birth - fingers crossed you find a good 'position'!!!! Do things feel different 'down there' during sex in the 1st trimester?

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 11:43

@EltzBee the flu virus works by putting dead flu into your body. Then your white blood cells can work out how to get rid of them. Dead flu can't hurt you or your baby anymore than a dead person could! Please don't worry. This can only help your baby.

Yeah, it did feel really weird at times. Like DH had a great big spoon in my stomach and was stiring all my organs around. It was quite off putting... 😂

EltzBee · 10/01/2019 11:56

I chickened out and cancelled it :( it's the chemicals in it that are worrying me, and I know if something goes wrong I would blame the jab regardless. Going to wait til 12 weeks to have it for my anxiety sake.

MrsLBear · 10/01/2019 13:57

@GemmaJen I work in the beauty industry and unfortunately we aren't covered for massages or facials on woman 12 weeks or under. Once that stage is over we are able to do most facials and pregnancy massages so it's worth a check.
Apparently massage can be too stimulating initially and also as many use aromatherapy oils.
It's very frustrating for all but due to the fact we will in times where you can get sued if a burglar hurts himself in your house, most wouldn't risk it.

@Crossfitgirl I felt like that initially as I had quite a bit of cramping but once I got over that bit and stopped the pity party it was nice to carry on with one normal thing at least. But don't put pressure on yourself. Listen to your body and I'm sure he understands completely. You're going through the biggest changes!

@EltzBee that's fair enough I feel exactly the same as you about it. Don't do something you don't feel comfortable with. It will drive you mad.

EltzBee · 10/01/2019 15:02

@MrsLBear thanks hun. That was just it, it was worrying me too much.

Pleased to report that I put my seabands on before bed yday and my nausea isn't as bad today. Had a couple hours bad this morning but mellowed to being there but functional. No idea if coincidence but not gonna complain!

Crossfitgirl · 10/01/2019 15:13

@eltzbee you just have to do what you are comfortable with! If that means waiting a bit then so be it, at least you won't be worrying.

@mrsLbear I knew most of it would be down to insurance for beauty places. It's slightly different in my profession as we have more medical training... Maybe seeing a physio rather than beautician is the way forward for us preggies? Although nothing beats a nice hot stone or aromatherapy one 😔

Aww I'm thinking about it now and i want one! Ah well... 2. 5 weeks to go till I'm 12 weeks! Got reflexology next week too which I'm looking forward to :-)

EltzBee · 10/01/2019 15:56

Oooh what actually is reflexology @Crossfitgirl? Gonna Google.

Just had to o lie down with a hot water bottle. Suddenly had loads of cramp pain in my tum and lower back.

CookieWaffle · 10/01/2019 16:46

I've got into Asda George shopping recently, I've loved their jeggings. They have a fair maternity range too which I've been secretly peeking at. Just bought my first stretchy maternity jeans! Eeek! I'll need to find some maternity wedding outfits for the summer too...

Has anyone else been taking Pregnacare? My midwife got me on them and since I've been taking them I swear the nausea has been improving. I don't feel too bad today.
