@MrsLBear oh, I've read that facials are ok? I'll chat to the beautician and see what she's happy doing. I'm looking forward to a bit of a pamper, I need the stress relief, so hopefully there'll be something she can do. 🤞

Crossfitgirl · 10/01/2019 17:31

@gemmajen I had a facial when I went on my spa day, so they must be OK depending what products they use.
@eltzbee reflexology is basically a foot massage. There's traditional Chinese benefits and it's meant to restore balance in the body through correlating parts of the feet, but yeah, it's a nice relaxing foot massage lol x

MrsLBear · 10/01/2019 17:47

@Crossfitgirl yeah definitely! Honestly the t&cs to insurances are such a ball ache. Oh tell me about it. I love a nice massage and I love regular facial too.

@GemmaJen I would check with where you are going. I'm pretty sure its standard policy not to perform any treatments such as massage or facials on anyone in the first trimester. But like I said maybe give them a call. You don't want to be disappointed on the day. Honestly it's a load of rubbish really but it all boils down to if something was to go wrong you could say oh it was that massage. Scary thing is people must have done it/do it for insurance companies to state that as a contraindication. Also annoying as this is the time when you do NEED it! Like @Crossfitgirl said it could also depend on what products they use maybe.

@CookieWaffle I take pregnacare but I take boots own as it was cheaper and has the same ingredients (I saw something on Martin Lewis money thing before where some branded tablets eg nurofen are more expensive than standard ibuprofen but contain the same ingredients. Anyway I've gone off topic - I actually gag so much when I take my tablets but maybe that's why I've not had any nausea really. I've been taking it for a few months now (before my BFP)

mrsof20118 · 10/01/2019 18:07

@CookieWaffle i think the pregnancy tablets contain some b vitamin (can't remember which one) that is meant to be good for sickness

CrystalBlaze · 10/01/2019 18:46

So much to catch up on!! Hope you're all well.

On risks of anything and everything, totally agree with you @Crossfitgirl. ..I was a total renegae throughout, didn't give a thought to make up or skin care, baths, bubble baths or massages Wink Not because I was being reckless, it just didn't occur to me. Everything has been absolutely fine. I've even had a couple if glasses of wine in the second trimesterWineSmile

Had another midwife appointment today and heard the baby's heart. It was lovely. I am so convinced it's a boy that I keep going to refer to it as "he" and then remember I don't actually know. Going to get the shock of my life if it's a girl!

They showed me the pool room at the midwife unit in my town which was really really lovely. Am very keen to have the baby there if I stay low risk, but it would mean no epidural, eek. Going to chat over with DP this evening.

On maternity clothes, it's all such a mixed bag. I've got some nice stuff from Apricot, Asos and H&M (their skinny jeans are fab - look nice and really comfy).

Avoid asos maternity tights though as they DO NOT STOP falling down ever. So so annoying. I hate tights at the best of times though.

Sorry for the massive essay!!

CookieWaffle · 10/01/2019 19:16

@mrsof20118 yeah B6 :) was wondering whether that may have caused the reduction in nausea. Worrying why my symptoms are fading instead of enjoying the fact!

@CrystalBlaze ahh that must've been so lovely to hear the heartbeat. I'm almost convinced it's a boy, and I'm basing that on no evidence at all! Although there was a BBC article the other day that said girl sperm live longer but the boy sperm are stronger so if you timed DTD close to ovulation it's more likely a boy or something. Then again there's so many theories out there.....

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 19:28

Ah, that's so lovely @CrystalBlaze! I have my 28wk midwife appointment next week and I can't wait! I must ask about a visit to the birth centre. My ideal would be a water birth, but I haven't actual seen the pools yet.

I normally default to "she", so try to say "he" to even it out and then confuse everyone! 😂

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 19:29

Asda is a good shout @CookieWaffle. I must work out where my nearest one is...

CrystalBlaze · 10/01/2019 20:01

It was really lovely @CookieWaffle and @ChaosMoon. A water birth does seem very appealing at this point.

@Cookie will have to check out Asda! Have had some nice stuff from there in the past.

@Chaos have you had any Braxton hicks yet? I've just started getting them and it's so weird!

MrsEG · 10/01/2019 20:10

Hi lovely ladies

I had a not so great time at the EPU today. I’ve been in and out due to ongoing spotting and today they did a scan - I should be 6+1 but the scan showed a gestation sac at barely 5 weeks. Whilst they are reassured by my HCG blood levels, it’s very difficult to say whether this pregnancy will now progress or fail. I have a very long 2 week wait now for a second scan, which will either confirm the pregnancy is successful, or the alternative. I flip between feeling positive about the potential good outcomes and just crying my eyes out.

Giving myself one day to feel sad tomorrow and then going to screw my head back on and relax, I know my little bean does not need any of the issues stress causes to the body right now if it’s going to grow so I need to try and keep my chin up. Just going to keep FX, but try and mentally prepare myself for the worst at the same time.

Will probably take a break from mumsnet (and all the preggo Googling!) to keep me sane in the interim, but the very best to all of you for very happy and healthy pregnancies xx

CrystalBlaze · 10/01/2019 20:23

Oh @MrsEG I'm so sorry to hear that. Keeping fingers crossed for good news and sending love Flowers Make sure you are kind to yourself and have plenty of support. We are always here if you need us.

GemmaJen · 10/01/2019 20:57

@MrsEG I'm so sorry about your news, with the early scans there's just so much uncertainty Sad. Fingers crossed for you, the waiting is so cruel. Look after yourself, we'll be thinking of you x Flowers

ChaosMoon · 10/01/2019 21:10

Oh no, @MrsEG I'm so sorry. The fact that your hormones are still riding I'd a great sign. A lot of women find out there a week or so behind at their 12 week scan. Hopefully you're just finding out about that ahead of time. Big hugs.

CookieWaffle · 10/01/2019 21:19

Oh @MrsEG I'm keeping every finger crossed for you xx

sunshine1987 · 10/01/2019 21:23

@mrseg keeping everything crossed for you and sending all my love your way xx

mrsof20118 · 10/01/2019 21:29

@MrsEG got all my hopes for you. My first scan at 6 weeks they measured me 4 days behind so you never know. Hope you are able to take your mind off it whilst you wait for the next scan xx

RanchoRelaxo · 10/01/2019 21:33

Oh @MrsEG I'm sorry you are going through this, will keep everything crossed for you over the next 2 weeks x

Crossfitgirl · 10/01/2019 21:46

@mrsEG oh no what a worrying time for you. Its so early that nothing can be too certain, Look after yourself and do what you need to to keep sane while you wait. I really hope all is well, but if the worst does happen you know where we are 💐 sending happy and positive thoughts your way and will be thinking of you till your next scan xxx

MrsEG · 10/01/2019 22:16

Thanks so much ladies. Will check in again in 2 weeks hopefully with good news xx

MrsLBear · 11/01/2019 05:35

@CrystalBlaze I would love a water birth too. Was looking up how many the hospital has that I will be going to! I will be absolutely gutted if I can't get into a pool. And my luck will be that they are all in use.

@CookieWaffle @mrsof20118 maybe that's why I've not really had nausea?! I've been taken the tablets for months 😂 will see how long that lasts for though...

@MrsEG that post made me really sad!!! I have everything crossed for you that your little bean will pull through and that you will continue your happy and healthy pregnancy. We are all thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Here if you need us ❤️

GemmaJen · 11/01/2019 06:01

Morning all, I'm not getting a lot of symptoms - still rather early, but am getting some strange sharp pains down there. Anyone else experienced this? Can't really go to GP as they won't recognise the pregnancy till 5 weeks. I'm hoping it's just things stretching and accommodating little bean. Still tracking temp and HR and all looks good - did anyone continue tracking BBT into pregnancy?

CookieWaffle · 11/01/2019 06:29

Hey @GemmaJen, 'pinching' feelings are normal but if they start to get unbearable then get yourself checked out. I had cramping and pinching from week 3 and have only just died down. It was uncomfortable but not unbearable and eased when I chilled for a bit. I stopped temping right away as it only makes you worry if you see any changes. No need to any more.

@MrsLBear ahh you're so lucky :) I do wonder though.

ChaosMoon · 11/01/2019 07:03

@CrystalBlaze I thought I felt something the other day but I think it was just the baby being weird. What do they feel like? I don't know why but Braxton Hicks sound exciting. Like they're the "next step". I know that's ridiculous. 😊

ChaosMoon · 11/01/2019 07:05

@GemmaJen, I'm with CookieWaffle on the temping. My sleep was awful almost as soon as I got pregnant, so I want getting enough sleep for an accurate reading. It was only going to worry me.

MrsLBear · 11/01/2019 07:10

@GemmaJen I had loads of af like cramps and I had the worst pain in my sleep (I have half asleep half awake) and it felt like real af cramps I get right as I'm coming on properly but no blood or anything thank god!! I'm 5+2 today and I've been told/read everywhere it's very normal.

I stopped temping too. I asked these wonderful ladies and @Crossfitgirl said very wisely that you would over analyse every dip just adding to the early pregnancy/pregnancy as a whole anxiety.

I did another test yday and it was a very very very strong positive. I think cos I have limited symptoms I get paranoid that it's not happening. I've done 3 and 1 cb digital now. Got a feeling I'm gonna keep doing them until my first scan.
I looked into private scans again but then some article popped up saying it could harm the baby. Now this was on the daily mail........... but has anyone read anything like it that early scans can do any harm?
