Thanks girls.
I was fine all day and didn't think about it but cos I've felt more and more dead and quite sick as the day progressed I've convinced myself it was the steak. What is happening to my brain!?!
That's what my DH said @MrsEG and it's so true but it's amazing how quickly you can overthink something.
Oh that's reassuring @mrsof20118 I thought it had to be crucified (the thought of which makes me feel even more queasy! Haha).

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 18:31

@MrsLBear I think the pregnancy hormones make us overthink everything!

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 18:41

@MrsLBear I'm sure you'd be fine as long as wasn't bloody and was piping hot, that would have killed any bacteria that might have been lingering (which is a low risk here anyway). Don't worry, it's done and (hopefully you enjoyed the steak!) you know for next time :) not worth beating yourself up over.

@GemmaJen congrats! How far are you? I'm 6+3 with a due date 31st August. I'm trying my best not to worry all the time too, just taking each day as it comes.

So knackered and starving hungry this evening, couldn't face cooking and really wanted junk food, so DH has gone to get takeaway pizza, not had it for months and actually going mmmm already and he's not even back yet...starving!!!!!!

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 18:44

@MrsEG I did the same with my face wash and face masks after I realised salicylic acid (or however its spelt!) was a no-go which my acne face washes etc had in! I had just put a face mask on for overnight and then happened to be googling and literally scrubbed it right off and washed my face. I now have super sensitive cleansing milk and moisturisers that are pregnancy safe.

Amazingly, my acne is clearing up keeps fingers crossed. Which makes me think even more Bean is a Boy. Isn't the old wives tale that girls steal your looks? lol

Crossfitgirl · 08/01/2019 18:56

@mrslbear they told me to Google a leaflet called "screening for you and your baby" on the government website before my booking appt and did explain a bit more at the appt. The screenings tell you if you're at a higher risk of having a baby with a bad condition, the screenings have no risk, but the only way to know for sure would be a subsequent diagnostic test which has a risk of MC. Because of that, we didn't feel we would have the diagnostic even if the screening came back as being high risk, so didn't bother with the screening as for us there was no point. I'll take whatever nature deals me and just hope it's a good card!

@chaosmoon I had my eye on that book. May get it now!
@mrsc87 yes I need a first time mums guide to everything! Haha. I'm sure there will be on sout there somewhere!
@sunshine1987 thanks will def have a look at that audio book it sounds good!

@mrsEG go if it will make you feel better. Don't if you'll just worry. Just listen to your body. Glad the docs are being so good! I'm also going to have some peppermibt tea. I haven't been for a few days and suddenly had awful stomach pains and had to run to the loo when I got home. In fact that is where I'm typing from as I speak. I darent move!! I think 3 days worth of food was in there!! Sorry TMI!!!!

@mrsof20118 so glad all is OK 😘

Welcome and congrats @gemmajen! The overthinking is real. @mrslbear I had a bath the other night and my symptoms have subsided the past 2 days. Clearly I have killed my child, even though it was only a warm one and I didn't overheat. Honestly, can't even enjoy a break in the symptoms anymore!! It's ridiculous isn't it 😭

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 19:01

@Crossfitgirl I’m living off peppermint tea! I am so gassy and bloated but it’s keeping me regular!! Just gonna go for a walk with the dog tonight - will ask the docs for their opinions on the gym when I see them again tomorrow!

@EltzBee I got so confused by all the ingredients I went and bought some Mama Mio skincare so I could be totally sure it was preggo safe!! Will just tackle my wrinkles again post-baby!! Yep I’ve heard that too, and no nausea also means boy apparently! DH is convinced we’ll have a boy. He also finds it hilarious that if I do I’ll technically spend 9 months with a tiny penis (men - do they ever grow up?!)

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 19:20

@MrsEG my bean obviously has an identify crisis then cos I have the nausea still Confused Grin

Just stuffed myself with pizza....feel better now lol.

GemmaJen · 08/01/2019 19:25

Thank you ladies.

@EltzBee just 4w, I think time is going to drag! I've got my first goal to just get to 5w so just going to take it a week at a time and get some reassurance scans when we get a bit further along.

I feel like the calm before the storm, just waiting for symptoms which will hopefully be a little reassuring.

Crossfitgirl · 08/01/2019 19:31

Where are you ladies reading about skin products you can't use?? I've not heard anything about that nor been told anything... Just carried on as normal! How can skincare be unsafe... Surely it can't be transferred to the baby via your skin? Is it more of a precaution? Sorry If I'm being totally ignorant xx

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 19:41

@Crossfitgirl this link explains well:

www.thebump.com/a/pregnancy-safe-skin-care-products

Some ingredients can get absorbed through your skin and potential risk they could enter your bloodstream and get to the little one. Most are low risk but some are associated with birth defects.

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 20:04

@Crossfitgirl thanks. Agree on the bath. Just had one to relax and now I've got out feeling a bit fuzzy and thought oh my god I've cooked the baby. Then googled obviously and there's new research that states even hot baths are fine for 20 mins. I'm pretty sure our parents didn't panic like this. I don't think they had the information available to worry about every little thing x

Teachermummy83 · 08/01/2019 20:14

@Mrsc87 and @Crossfitgirl I’m with you on needing a first time Mums guide to everything - there is so much to get my head around, I feel such a dafty not knowing things!
@eltzbee, I think We’re pretty much due-date twins - pretty sure I’m 6+5 and due 31st Aug (although Scans may change that obviously)
I picked up my welcome pack from the hospital yesterday and have been trawling through my copy of ready steady baby - it seems really real all of a sudden! So much paperwork, and lots of leaflets about the flu jab and smear tests so I think I need to get booked in for both? Going to just go with midwife advice, but feels like I’m going to never be out of the GP and midwifes surgery’s!

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 20:19

@mrsof20118 @Crossfitgirl @EltzBee it’s crazy, I feel like everything I do now is considered dangerous in some way shape or form - Google is like my worst enemy! I only found out about retinol after a quick online search 10 minutes after slathering my face in the stuff!! So much of it is very low risk but ‘advised’ - like you say, our mums wouldn’t have known any of this and had no problems. Sometimes I think if I avoided everything I’m told to I’ll basically be eating salads and drinking water whilst wrapped in cotton wool for 9 months!

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 21:50

@MrsEG yeah it does seem crazy.

I guess the products available now are so much more varied and full of things that are meant to transform us that it's not a surprise we have to think about avoiding things compared to 30 years ago...

I haven't put bubble bath in my bath since finding out about Bean as one of mine specifically says not to use in pregnancy!!

GemmaJen · 09/01/2019 04:41

@EltzBee, wow that rules out half my skin care routine and my foundation. I didn't even know that was a thing. Will be popping into boots tomorrow then, I think make up shopping is only secondary to stationary shopping, love it 😊

MrsLBear · 09/01/2019 05:27

@mrsof20118 these hormones are crazy already I hope they don't get worse.
That's so true @EltzBee. Wasn't bloody at all.

I get problematic skin too @EltzBee. If you do encounter problems again glycolic acids are safe during pregnancy and because they naturally exfoliate they help with congestion. What cleansers and moisturisers have you gone for instead?
I actually use vitamin a on my skin and it's been deemed as safe up to the level I'm on as it's low grade and also doesn't absorb into the blood stream. It's amazing how things change over time. Can't eat runny eggs. Can eat runny eggs. Etc.
Some people don't get spray tans for example during pregnancy cos of the fear of it going into the blood stream but it's absolutely safe.
@Crossfitgirl thanks I will have a look at that now. Also don't worry to be much about skin care unless you're using something medically prescribed or high levels of vitamin a/retinol. But it's worth having a google anyway. Most skin care will be absolutely fine.
Yeah that makes total sense. Enables you to enjoy your pregnancy too without worrying if their predictions are right or wrong. I know of someone who got told they were high risk for Down's syndrome and they decided to proceed and the baby was absolutely fine.
I know it's mental what it does to our mental reasoning!! I was saying to DH if I did something I shouldn't and god forbid something went wrong (unrelated) I know I would convince myself it was me. I'm already realising how mentally strong you have to be for this journey and I'm only 5 weeks.

Hahahaha tiny penis @MrsEG that really made me laugh!!!!!

Crossfitgirl · 09/01/2019 08:21

@gemmajen LOVE stationary shopping. Paperchase. Oh yes. 🤓
And buying new makeup I will probably use once a year at a wedding or on my birthday but spending a fortune all the same 😂

sunshine1987 · 09/01/2019 09:34

Oh god now I’m going to have to buy new foundation 🤦🏻‍♀️ turns out mine isn’t safe, didn’t even think about foundations just skincare. Off I goto boots tomorrow then lol x

canonlyhopexo · 09/01/2019 11:08

I didn't even think about changing any products. I've just been using my usual shower gels and shampoos etc but haven't worn make up in weeks where I'm just so sick I've been at home. I use Liz earle cleanser and I think that's all pretty natural. My midwife didn't say anything about any products needing to be changed!

EltzBee · 09/01/2019 11:33

I got La Roche-Posay "Toleriane" range for cleanser, moisturiser, spring water spray as toner and foundation - they are for super sensitive skin with no nasties, and after researching are recommended as being safe for pregnant woman as well as those with allergies. It's got the British Allergy Foundation seal of approval which is always reassuring.

I have got a body shop exfoliating face-wash which I don't think has anything nasty in it but need to double check...!

@sunshine1987 I didn't think about foundation either til I was looking at my skincare, then saw they did a sensitive foundation in the same range and thought I'd better check! I thankfully don't usually wear make-up very often but I didn't want to not be able to when I did want to...if that makes sense! Good luck finding one later :) I ordered mine from feel unique as I couldn't face going to town but Boots do the same range too.

I finally found products last year that were sorting my acne out (Mary Kay Clear Proof) but they have ingredients that aren't on the safe list for pregnancy so didn't want to risk it. My skin was awful again after coming off the pill in June (thankfully it was lovely and clear for my Wedding day though!!). I usually go for microdermabrasion and facial every couple of weeks which has kept it in check, but haven't got anything booked in and last one was before Xmas, as I know my consultant (who's also a friend) will guess immediately that I'm pregnant as my skin has changed dramatically again!! I've changed my hair appointment for end of this month to just be a cut as whilst things say foils should be safe, I just don't want to risk it, especially in first 12 weeks.

@MrsLBear oh it really is such mixed advice! The egg advice is now if it's got the British lion stamp on, it's safe to eat them raw/runny. I keep meaning to check if Feta is on the safe list or not as I read somewhere that it wasn't. But I wonder if the pretend greek salad cheese that's made with British cows milk might be? I'm being super paranoid about washing everything too, whereas before I might have gone in the kitchen and just grabbed an apple to munch, or just grabbed fresh stuff out the fridge to chop and cook with.

Today is awful for nausea and tiredness. I thought (naively it turns out) that morning sickness was feeling and being sick. This constant nausea and dry retching/heaving without being sick is just awful. And SO tired. I'm WFH yet again as I just can't get through the day still. 6+4 today I think, so I think it's only really getting started too. My digestive system is so lousy at the moment as well, feel constipated and SO gassy. I was hoping that the takeaway pizza might have kicked things into moving with the extra fat but nope...lol

Got my slimming world weigh in tonight, haven't told the group leader there as it's so early still, and when I spoke to the midwife on the phone they said they don't do anything to approve you doing it, but their website says you have to have approval if you're pregnant. So confusing. Still got a few weeks left on my pre-paid for course so will go to them then stop going I think, as it seems a waste to pay £5 a week when I know my weight will be increasing when I'm growing a Bean!

Have got a load of groceries coming tonight and added cans of fizzy ginger beer (the soft drink!), ginger biscuits and cream crackers. DH is flying out to the states on Sunday and I've already told him if this nausea and exhaustion doesn't pass, I'll be putting a grocery order in for loads of ready meals for myself for next week. I usually do all the cooking (and love cooking) but I'm just too tired. I've got extra rubber gloves and vented face masks as I'll be doing the cats litter box whilst he's away next week. I'm pretty sure the risk is slim as they've both only ever been house cats, but total paranoia!

Sorry this turned in to a proper essay didn't it!!! Can you tell I'm lacking interaction with other people....!

sunshine1987 · 09/01/2019 11:40

@canonlyhopexo my midwife didn’t mention it either but I knew from before that the products I was using (to stop skin flare ups) weren’t great during pregnancy as had retinoids etc (avid Caroline Hirons skincare reader lol). Hadn’t thought about make up though I guess the point is it shouldn’t be absorbed into the skin, just sit there so I shouldn’t be too worried about that side. It’s such a bloody minefield.

canonlyhopexo · 09/01/2019 11:55

@sunshine1987 I wouldn't have had a bloody clue if it wasn't for Mumsnet!! Pregnancy literally does effect every aspect in life doesn't it.

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today just so sick, exhausted etc and I phoned the midwife office to let them know something and i just started crying! I asked a couple of questions just about how i was feeling and the midwife who booked me in is going to get back to me I think.

CookieWaffle · 09/01/2019 13:51

Hi ladies, sorry I've missed loads but I caught the stuff about not knowing things you can and can't do. My neck and shoulders have been aching so I was about to book myself in for a massage, only for my brain to go 'double check if you can first'. Lo and behold Google tells me that you can't have a massage when pregnant, you have to have specific pregnancy ones. Who knew... It really is a whole new world. Part of me is not wanting to risk anything while the other half is not wanting to give in to fear mongering. I had to Google bubble baths as well as I love a weekend bubble bath, apparently its the ones with essential oils to watch out for, and to be honest you'd think the bottle would tell you anyway...

GemmaJen · 09/01/2019 16:05

@Crossfitgirl yaaaaas, paperchase! I virtually live in the one at Paddington station, lol. A good pick me up after work on the way home 😊 I'm looking forward to buying a pregnancy book, think I'll celebrate reaching 12w with a sneaky purchase. Only 8w to go 😯

No massages? @CookieWaffle? I understand if they're massaging your lower back and abdomen maybe, but would a neck and shoulder massage not be ok?

I'm off for a facial next week, now I'm wondering what else is banned? Best do some googling...

Crossfitgirl · 09/01/2019 17:03

@cookiewaffle I'm a physiotherapist and would have no problem massaging the neck and shoulders of a pregnant woman. There are absolutely no risks. Just do it in sitting or leant over a pillow instead of laid on your front or back. No idea why Google says otherwise. You just want to make sure its an appropriately trained person, some places don't do it as their insurers won't cover it and for purely no other reason!

I was really annoyed when the spa day I had booked the day after i found out i was pregnant (like 3+6!) refused to do me my back massage. I was like. Really?? What are you gonna do... Relax me too much?? Pretty sure you can't reach my womb from there!!

Just go get a pregnancy package or something... Its so ridiculous isn't it!!

I have a mobile plinth and do sports massage on the side so if you're anywhere near Leeds.... 😜
