Oster, not poster!

MrsC87 · 08/01/2019 07:34

Morning ladies, Thankyou for all your kind words. Frame of mind is totally different today, relaxed and going to enjoy this pregnancy.
Can I ask where do you ladies buy your maternity clothes?

@Crossfitgirl we also chose not to have the genetic testing. Midwife still looked at fluid at the back of neck and asked me before the scan, if I think it needs measuring I will ask if you are happy to do this. Anyway she pointed out it was very thin and everything looked normal and healthy.

Also I'm a first time mum so would love a book that tells me exactly what to do, like a guide to motherhood, I have no clue currently 🤦‍♀️

@mrsc87 I’ve not read any books yet but I’m tempted to buy Clemmie Hooper’s how to grow a baby a push it out. She’s a midwife so think it would be useful, though I don’t know if it just focuses on the pregnancy/birth or after etc but seen it recommended loads of times x

@delilah7 sorry to hear you’ve been so poorly, hopefully the drugs will make you feel more human and you can start to enjoy it all xx

@mrslbear @crossfitgirl @mrseg the positive birth company’s audio book is meant to be great for hypnobirthing, I know on this parenting group I’m on lots recommended it and self taught themselves. Plus not sure if any of you have listened to Giovanna Fletcher’s podcasts, a lot of them mention this company on there xx

@mrslbear have you had your booking in appointment yet? They discuss the tests then and give you leaflets to go away and read. There’s no risk to the scan itself and the checking of the fluid/bloods for Downs/Edwards and Patau but it’s not massively accurate which is why if it comes back high risk you would be offered more accurate testing. The risks come from the procedure after’s as one is checking the amniotic fluid which comes with a low risk but a risk none the less of miscarriage. This is where the harmony test comes in as it’s more accurate from the start and looks at babies blood instead of amniotic fluid so there is no risk and would stop the worry of something coming back high risk etc if it wasn’t. Though completely up to you if you want to get screened at all x

sunshine1987 · 08/01/2019 08:02

Knew I missed something in my essay @mrsc87 🙈. I’ve only bought pyjamas so far but they were from ASOS and all the bits I’ve been given by my friend are from there too. Really rate their Ridley maternity jeans. Heard good things about H&M maternity jeans and leggings too x

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 08:14

Morning ladies
Much happier this morning. Although I am still spotting, my blood work has come back from the EPU - it has risen from 725 to 1320. So really positive, especially at 5+5 yesterday. They are going to be super thorough and do another blood test tomorrow to check it is rising again and if it does they will also do a TV scan to try and work out (if they can) what the spotting is and check all is well. Had a really sleepless night last night waiting for the results call this morning but over the moon now!

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 08:19

@that's reassuring.

I have woken up today and had some brown spotting when I wiped. Called midwives and they said they aren't concerned if brown. I called gp before them as wasn't sure i would get a call back and got an appointment just before 10 with them which I will still go to. Quite worried it will turn red x

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 08:25

@sunshine1987 I have Clemmie Hoopers book, DH bought it for me - it’s really fab! Really informative and great to have the insight from a midwife. Will look up the hypnobirthing audio book too!

@delilah7 So sorry to hear you’ve ended up in hosp!! HG is just awful. I’ll keep everything crossed that it passes for you very soon x

@ChaosMoon Will definitely look in to Expecting Better! Sounds fab. I much prefer just reading books and fact-based evidence - I think Googling searching can be a pregnant woman’s worst nightmare at times!! So much false information online. Let us know how your first hypnobirthing class goes too!

@Crossfitgirl Well done on making it to the gym!! I haven’t been at all since the spotting started but might go along tonight now even just for some light body weight stuff. I really miss it if I don’t go!

@mrsof20118 You can get some brilliant blankets now specifically for BF in public that cover you but mean you can still see baby clearly, my sister has given me hers already. In 7 months she’s only ever felt uncomfortable in public once (grumpy old man in Costa)!

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 08:27

@mrsof20118 That’s what’s happened with me. I saw the GP too and they couldn’t do much but examined my stomach so def worth going along anyway. I also had one small instance of blood on saturday which is when I panicked and when to the EPU but only brown spotting since, and on my cervical exam she could see no bleeding and only brown discharge. I believe it’s far more common than we know. FX for you at the GP and if you do feel really concerned head to your EPU. They are so thorough with their tests.

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 08:33

@MrsEG pregnancy is such a worrying time isn't it. My epu only accept a medical referral so it's possible my gp might refer me. Can't concentrate at all now today x

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 08:38

@mrsof20118 It’s really scary, I know exactly how you feel. Everyone I have spoken to have assured me it’s so common though, but absolutely get it checked for your own peace of mind. My sister had red spotting for nearly a week in her early pregnancy which also turned out to be nothing. Apparently the blood flow to the cervix increases massively so it can just happen. Big hugs to you, I know it’s such an anxious time.

Delilah7 · 08/01/2019 08:57

Thanks for the messages ladies. Yeah I'm home now. Only problem is the meds make me constipated and with me being able to finally eat food I can tell I really need a poo!!! 😂

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 09:32

@Delilah7 Peppermint tea works like a charm to get the bowels moving!! So pleased to hear you’re doing better.

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 09:56

Morning ladies.

@Delilah7 oh no that the tablets have that effect!!! Hope you're feeling better (apart from the constipation!).

@mrsof20118 sending hugs and hope it stops. Let us know what your GP says later.

@MrsEG glad to hear you're feeling happier this morning, and glad to hear that your results are looking good.

Early pregnancy is really weird, isn't it, it's like you know something is happening with your body from the exhaustion/nausea/sickness/boobs, but it's all so scary not knowing how our little beans are actually doing. I'm very tempted to book a private early scan to see how things are doing, as it could be another 6 to 8 weeks if I don't get my dating scan til 14 weeks.

I've decided dry cream crackers are amazing for getting me through a morning, I can't face eating properly but they seem to keep the nausea at bay for a few minutes! Still not gone in the office as been WFH, but may have to venture in tomorrow - not sure how I'm going to cope.

Thanks also all for the advice on the flu jab; I've booked in and have it on Thursday. I saw one scary article in 'The Independent' online but reading it through again, it was for a particular strain a couple years ago where people had an identical vaccine the year before and there was no shown risk under normal conditions. There's so much scaremongering online about the flu jab and it's ingredients. But I'd like to think the NHS and WHO wouldn't be recommending it if it was dangerous in 1st trimester!

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 12:00

Gp said standard protocol is to refer if any spotting so just been to epu. Can't find any reason for the spotting but baby is fine and was waving it's little hands about. So relieved x

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 12:04

@mrsof20118 glad to hear it was okay and that they referred you xx

MrsLBear · 08/01/2019 12:35

@sunshine1987 I bought that book today! I read the first few pages as a preview and it seemed like an easy relaxed read! I got it in paperback copy instead of on my kindle so I can flick back etc as it's so hard to do that on a kindle.
Oh wow I didn't know she had so many podcasts. I love a podcast so have subscribed already now!!

I've not had anything as I'm on holiday until Sunday and have been since I found out. I'm always moving drs so need to do that Monday first thing so I can make an apt with the gp or find out how they work it. I tried looking online but nothing. So frustrating as I'm completely in the dark and I'm hoping I won't be really delayed because of it!

Is it possible that the tiredness literally comes on one day. I feel physically EXHAUSTED today. Like dead. I'm 5 weeks tomorrow.

@MrsC87 ASOS do lovely stuff and so does boohoo actually very reasonable!

@mrsof20118 I'm sure it's nothing sinister but totally get how you must feel. Hopefully it subsides completely! Virtual hugs!
Ah just read your latest post. That's amazing news!!!! What a relief that must be. Also so good they did the scan too!

EltzBee · 08/01/2019 13:01

@MrsLBear ah bless you, my tiredness suddenly kicked in with vengeance middle of last week and since then I've been constantly shattered! So would say yes it can just suddenly come on.

GemmaJen · 08/01/2019 15:35

Hello - tentatively popping my head through the door. I got my bfp on Friday and it's now super strong. Not going to breathe easy for a while but very very happy. Is it ok to join? - September due date.

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 16:01

Hello again @GemmaJen! Please do let yourself breathe easy. I know it’s easier said than done. I had an early MC before this pregnancy and have been advised to try and stay positive and enjoy it as much as I can; anxiety does me no good whatsoever. Even when I’ve had some wobbles (was in the EPU the last few days with spotting) I kept myself very calm and relaxed (gotta love Headspace!) FX for a very happy and healthy 40 weeks for you!

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 16:12

Welcome @GemmaJen easier said than done to try to relax. The time will start going quicker once you get past the eight week point x

MrsLBear · 08/01/2019 16:47

Welcome @GemmaJen!! And congrats again on your BFP.

I made such a mistake last night. We went for dinner and had a tasting menu and I fancied steak so I said can I have it cooked medium/well and it was more medium and now I'm panicking that I have harmed the baby in some way. Don't know why I did it 😞😞😞😞😞😞😞 it wasn't bloody or anything whatsoever and was cooked all the way through and was a very nice restaurant so not somewhere funny but what have I done!!

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 17:06

I really wouldn't worry too much @MrsLBear think the risk is so low x

mrsof20118 · 08/01/2019 17:07

@MrsLBear from what I have read medium steak is perfectly ok. Xx

MrsEG · 08/01/2019 17:11

@MrsLBear Bless you, I had a similar panic when I realised retinol is a no-go and chucked out my moisturiser!! Please don’t worry too much; think of all the women who don’t even know they’re pregnant at first. Also, from what I’ve heard as long as a steak is sealed you’re fine. It’s a rare steak you want to avoid. Don’t worry!x
