Oh also, I had the jab just after bloods just in case.

Crossfitgirl · 07/01/2019 11:36

@eltzbee I also have mine every year through work and had it before conception, but if I had conceived first I would still definitly have got it. I used to work in ICU and once saw a lady with flu on a ventilator fighting for her life, and her newborn was in another hospital. It was so so sad I always remember it. Sorry that's a bit dramatic isn't it I'm sure that's extremely rare but it def made me realise how much more vulnerable you are when preggo. If you can be safely vaccinated then why not, I think anyway.

@mrsc87 yay!! What a gorgeous scan! And yes enjoy your lunch and have fun spreading your news!!
Can i ask - did you need a full bladder for it? I'm dreading mine as I have a terrible bladder anyway and have to drink a pint of water before I go! Lol.

Well ladies I'm SO chuffed, I made it to the gym!! I made sure I'd eaten and drank enough and felt fine! Although my empty barbell felt sooo heavy even though I didn't put any weight on it... Definitely lost a lot of fitness this past month. Can't wait to get back on it much more when I'm feeling better more of the time!

SullyWifey · 07/01/2019 12:21

Hi ladies,

Sorry so rubbish at catching up with this!

@MrsC87 Congrats on your beautiful scan! Wow enjoy your day 😘

I am from South East.

I would like to breastfeed but not going to put pressure on myself to do it. Would do co-feeding anyways as DH wants to be as involved as possible.

In regards to all the lovely chats about buying things, be prepared for me to ask again at a later date! Haven't even thought about it yet. We trying to find somewhere else to live at the moment as not enough space where we are. It's so stressful as renting is so expensive and I resent that we are still renting!!

Glad to hear you went to gym today @Crossfitgirl I'm so jealous. I actually cancelled my membership.

Sickness is easing a little now as it's not constant every day like it was. Just a few hours a day, but tend to have good and bad days.

However. Still tired AF. had lovely 12 hour bedtime last night xx

MrsC87 · 07/01/2019 14:25

Thankyou ladies, had a lovely lunch and announced to people. It's very exciting.
@Crossfitgirl I didn't have a full bladder and they still saw. I was worried because I have s tilted womb but they still saw baby. It's amazing how quickly they grow! The difference from 8 weeks to 12 is amazing.
@CookieWaffle where about are you from in Worcestershire?

Hope everyone is okay. For those with sickness mine has finally eased so fingers crossed it will fit you closer to 12 weeks. xx

CookieWaffle · 07/01/2019 14:57

@SullyWifey I know all about the stress of renting, took me a while to get out of that!

@MrsC87 Worcester specifically :) still go visit there.

MrsC87 · 07/01/2019 15:04

My hubby is from Worcester but I'm from Kidderminster. Small world @CookieWaffle xx

CookieWaffle · 07/01/2019 15:21

@MrsC87 Ahh Kiddy, land of carpets! One side of my family originate from there. Tis a small world :)

sunshine1987 · 07/01/2019 15:43

@eltzbee I had my flu jab at 8 weeks x

@mrsc87 congratulations, lovely photo xx

EltzBee · 07/01/2019 15:45

@sunshine1987 ah cool; is it just the standard flu jab?

sunshine1987 · 07/01/2019 15:46

@crossfitgirl yeah next to the bed but can have the side up or down depending on if you want baby right next to you or not. I just think it looks pretty 😂

sunshine1987 · 07/01/2019 16:12

@eltzbee I believe so? I went in to get checked for chickenpox immunity and she said I would need it soon so did I want it then anyway. As far as I know it’s risk free x

mrsof20118 · 07/01/2019 18:38

@MrsC87 congrats on your scan.

Would like to try bf too though admittedly a little anxious about doing it in public. Not sure why but think I'll feel self conscious about doing that. I don't know enough about yet about how much you can express for when out and about etc.

I had the flu jab, had no side effects other than a sore arm for a few days.

mrsof20118 · 07/01/2019 18:41

Counting down the days until my harmony test next Monday. Also have the 12 week nhs scan next Wednesday. Hoping this week goes fast with being back at work properly now. Strange to think with the harmony we could be opting to find the gender next week!

Crossfitgirl · 07/01/2019 19:17

@mrsof20118 what made you opt for the harmony test if you don't mind me asking? I was never offered or told about it, we were only offered the standard one for the trisomies with the bloods, scan and fluid measurement. Have you had to pay for it privately?

We opted not to go for any screenings, but it's nice to know what's out there and that there's some that are actually more accurate and potentially less risky than the NHS ones, as we may have reconsidered! Also had no idea it could tell you the gender! Hope I'm not being too personal don't feel like you have to answer xx

Crossfitgirl · 07/01/2019 19:24

Also @mrsof20118 I'm planning on getting some formula in stock ready, just in case I do have problems bf or if its too tricky or whatever. There's always gonna be a level of awkwardness getting your boob out in public 😂 but it can be done so discreetly. My friend came round with her baby the other day and just tied a blanket in a certain way round her shoulder and was able to completely cover herself.you wouldn't have even known the baby was feeding! I guess it'd prob just take some practice and getting used to.

I know a couple of people who didn't bf at all, through choice. The world didn't end funnily enough and their children are perfectly healthy!

mrsof20118 · 07/01/2019 19:42

I had never heard of it either @Crossfitgirl but my other half knows people who have had it done. It's private. I think he knows me too well and if I have a risk of 1 in 150 or something I would be be very anxious. The test apparently gives a much more accurate result. Ours is costing £399 at mothercare.
Glad to hear it can be done discreetly. I'll get some formula too as means other half can do his share. Same with friends who didn't for various reasons, some choice and some due to baby issues.

mrsof20118 · 07/01/2019 20:18

Also wondering how @Delilah7 is getting on?

Delilah7 · 07/01/2019 20:21

@mrsof20118 So sorry ladies I've been AWOL.
Baby is thriving. Mother is not. Ended up in hospital on a drip :( finally on strong medicine ( one for people suffering with cancer which is abit scary ) but they are working.. I've not had the energy to even check up on you all which is very selfish. X

mrsof20118 · 07/01/2019 20:39

@Delilah7 don't be silly! Glad that you have managed to get a drip though as it sounded pretty brutal for what you were suffering before. Hopefully things will pick up and you will be able to enjoy the pregnancy a bit more x

ChaosMoon · 07/01/2019 21:32

Ah, @MrsC87 I'm so pleased. I hope you had a good celebratory lunch!

I've got my hypnobirthing class this weekend @MrsEG. I'm so excited!

The fly jab is really important @EltzBee. You can always find a load of rubbish about vaccinations on line. It's not worth giving head space to though.

@Crossfitgirl go you at the gym! I know what you mean about losing fitness. I had about 10 weeks reprieve, but not back to where I was and now my back and ribs are protesting whenever I work out. Or bend. Or move.

Very glad the drugs are working for you @Delilah7. I hope you get to start enjoying it all now.

Crossfitgirl · 07/01/2019 21:54

Aww @delilah7 I was actually just thinking about you today as well wondering how you were doing. Sorry to hear you've had to go to hospital, but glad the stronger drugs are working for you. Are you home now? I hope to god it starts to settle for you soon, I really do. Can't imagine what it's been like for you. Xxxx

sunshine1987 · 07/01/2019 21:57

@mrsof20118 wow is that how much the harmony test costs? We must be really lucky in some respects as we get it for free at our hospital if our screening tests come back high risk x

Crossfitgirl · 07/01/2019 22:12

@mrsof20118 it's worth it if it gives you peace of mind and stops you worrying. We decided that we wouldn't have a diagnostic even if the screening came back as high risk, so there'd be no point having it in the first place as all it would do would make us insanely worried but unable to do anything about it except wait and see.

@chaosmoon let us know how the hypnobirthing goes! Very interested in that!

I'm going to get a book on natural birthing methods I think... See what could work as I'm so pathetic with taking drugs... Hate feeling dizzy or woozy or out of it, I'd be worried about the painkillers making me sick, and would prob even freak out at the gas and air!! Haha. I've already decided I'm taking my own gym ball to bounce on and taking some aromatherapy. Haha. Xx

MrsLBear · 08/01/2019 06:16

Loving the scan pic @MrsC87!!!! You must be over the moon to see everything is ok!

Full bladder scans are the absolute worst. I had to have a PCOS scan in September and I had to have a full bladder but I drank TOO much water 😂 and I was dying. The dr didn't have much bedside manner as I was trying to make a joke about it to stop myself peeing on her floor and her face was just blank. Really hope I don't get her again for our scan as that would really make me feel uncomfortable.

What's a harmony test @mrsof20118? Honestly this thread provides me with a wealth of information!!

Do they explain all the scans and tests available to you @Crossfitgirl? What made you decided to not have any? Are there risks involved? I know of the fluid neck screening (that's for Down's syndrome isn't it? I didn't think there was any side affects to it. I really need to get researching).

(Just saw your post to @mrsof20118 Re your reasons - that's fair enough and makes total sense!!)

I'm hoping to bf too but I'm not putting pressure on myself for it. I will really try but if I genuinely can't then I can't. Also what DH to get involved with feeding as I think it's so special so if I can express then amazing too. I know what you mean about public @Crossfitgirl as we all know it's hard not to look if you see a woman bf. It's natural instinct almost!

I was thinking about doing hypnobirthing too. I can't say now that I don't want any drugs but I don't want to be talking crap and all out of control and then not remember anything. I mean I say this now but I'm fully aware you cannot plan this at all! Let me know if you find a good book @Crossfitgirl!

ChaosMoon · 08/01/2019 07:08

Ladies, I have been remiss in not recommending you read "Expecting Better" by Emily Poster. It's so hard to research some (most) stuff about pregnancy, as it's all presented through a lense of propaganda and fear mongering with so few facts available. Expecting Better is written by an economist who's looked at all the actual evidence so that you can weigh it up properly. The stuff about the genetic testing is fascinating and it sounds like it will be relevant to a lot of you.

My one caveat is that this was written a couple of years ago and her information on episiotomy is out of date. Routine episiotomy is never done in the UK, and although there is a specific form of it that makes tearing worse, as she says there is in her book, that specific form is never done in the UK ever. (It's called something like a midline episiotomy.)

It's very worth a read though.
