@CookieWaffle I’ve heard very similar from friends! Apparently home pregnancy tests (especially the CB digital as they detect higher levels of HCG) are just as good if not better than any they’d use at hospital, so if you’ve had a positive they take your word for it! Countdown to your 12-week scan now, I bet you cannot wait!

EltzBee · 31/12/2018 21:15

@CookieWaffle not too long til 12 weeks, hope it goes by quickly xx

CookieWaffle · 31/12/2018 21:29

Thanks ladies :) its gonna be a long month haha xx

MrsLBear · 01/01/2019 06:56

Thanks for the advice @EltzBee. Interested to know what the alcohol free gin was like?!
It will cost me half of my mortgage to ring them whilst I'm away so I will see what DH says and if not I will ring them when I'm back but the first working day isn't till Monday 14th!
Oh ok @sunshine1987 I will defo check then thank you!

So how was everyone's sober New Years? This is my first so it was quite interesting. We told our parents and also my siblings in the end cos I honestly had one soft drink and my dad actually came up to me and went come over here and asked me if I was pregnant. I denied it then and then calling both my parents over to tell them. Can't believe he guessed so quickly. They did say they thought I was a week ago (even though I got a bfn on Boxing Day). Scary actually!! Shows you how well your parents know you sometimes. Before I even did!

EltzBee · 01/01/2019 10:16

@MrsLBear it was okay actually! I had the Seedlip Spice one and it was nice, it didn't taste like gin but it tasted like a proper grown up drink. If that makes sense!

I finally did my digital test this morning, I needed to work up the courage to do it! Shows 3+ and I ovulated 3weeks 1 days ago so i guess that's about right!

That's spooky about your parents! I'm pretty sure mine are clueless still, I'm not a big drinker anyway and have been watching what I eat so turning down alcohol didn't raise any eyebrows. It's my 30th bday tomorrow and we're seeing them for dinner. I'm wanting to keep it secret til the 12 week mark.

I'm sure it'll be fine to wait til your back to call GP, double check your surgery website? Some also have an online booking system which lets you book a routine GP appointment or even email them.

It sounds like it varies around the country what the GP does or whether they send you straight to midwife.

Hi ladies, at around 11pm last night I started having the most painful cramps you could imagine. I kept thinking I was going to see blood at any moment. It was constant and I nearly rung 111 as I nearly passed out.

DH thought it could have been that fact I ate something dodgy so I just continued through with on and off sleep throughout the night waking up in pain.

This morning it's still there but about half the pain it was last night and my back is killing me.

Do I bring the midwife? Not sure what she can do now. No bleeding but just crazy pain.

EltzBee · 01/01/2019 10:35

@SullyWifey ring your midwife, even if it's for reassurance. Sending hugs xxx

Crossfitgirl · 01/01/2019 10:39

Happy new year everyone!

So yesterday and today so far the queasiness seems to have gone... Totally feel like I'm being tricked into a false sense of security and don't know when it'll hit again!

Jumped on DH whilst I had the chance... And as its been a while as I've been feeling so shit it took a while to... Erm... go in 😂and he said jokingly "if you can't even get that in, how do you think you're gonna push a baby out of there?!"
😂 Funny but totally not funny at the same time lol. Seriously started thinking about labour then!!

So glad all is OK @cobaltrose96 that must have been such a relief!
@cookiewaffle ah sorry the midwife was like that, maybe it just depends who you get - ours wouldn't stop chatting! Not one single professional has actually asked me if I took a pregnancy test nor has it been confirmed. They do just take your word for it. Strange isn't it?

Is anyone else thinking of getting baby stuff in the January sales? I suggested to DH we look at prams /car seats etc, as they are the most expensive necessities, but he doesn't want to yet as he thinks it's far too early (8+2) I'll be 12 weeks on 27th Jan.

I kind of agree it's way too soon, but also kinda think we could save loads of money in the sales... but then I don't want to tempt fate. Anyone else thought about it?

EltzBee · 01/01/2019 10:45

@Crossfitgirl ah brilliant, I do love your stories. DH and I haven't dtd since finding out.

I'd say too early and just wait to go shopping. There are always sales on nowadays anyhow and you don't need to rush getting things. I'm hoping to pick up as much as possible 2nd hand, people always seem to be selling baby things!

Crossfitgirl · 01/01/2019 10:50

@sullywifey definitely ring the midwife. Or 111 if you're not sure, best to get checked out. Pregnancy can play havoc with your stomach, I had similar in that I had excruciating stomach pain and a proper sweat on on boxing day, but all I had eaten was sugar that day and I knew it was my stomach - I was stuck to the toilet later.
Let us know what they say and hope you are OK, you must be worried out of your mind xxx

Crossfitgirl · 01/01/2019 10:57

@eltzbee yeah there is a lot of baby stuff about second hand, always stuff on fb marketplace actually. It sounds snobby but I feel like for my first I want new things! The prices are so ridiculous though, and I will definitely be looking at some things second hand. Especially toys, playmats and those kind of things. I saw a bag to match a pram in mamas and papas the other day, its not even like designer or anything and was only small and floppy fabric... £100!!! 😱😱😱

sunshine1987 · 01/01/2019 11:00

@crossfitgirl we’re going to wait, plus need to work our what we actually need and our finances for the next year. Everything is so expensive so only want to get the bare minimum new, luckily I’m the last of my friends to have a baby so I’ve been offered lots of stuff which will help as with maternity pay etc we wouldn’t be able to afford it all x

sunshine1987 · 01/01/2019 11:13

@sullywifey would call your midwife just for peace of mind, hope you’re ok xx

EltzBee · 01/01/2019 11:15

@Crossfitgirl @sunshine1987 yeah the prices are ridiculous. Totally get having some things new. I'm like sunshine and know it is going to be tough with money (I work for a US company and our maternity pay is 2 weeks then down to statutory). We've been moving money across to a saving account for past few months to help top up whilst I'm off work but want to save as much as we can. I'm hoping to get some things like furniture 2nd when and make them our own :)

@sullywifey let us know how you get on, definitely midwife or 111. Sending hugs and positive thoughts.

MrsEG · 01/01/2019 11:22

@EltzBee Glad you plucked up the courage! Lovely to see the 3+ :)

@SullyWifey I would definitely call your midwife or 111, FX it’s nothing but just for your own peace of mind.

@Crossfitgirl I’ve seen tonnes of stuff in the sales but it’s just far too early for me! Luckily a few friends and my sister had babies in 2018 so hoping for lots of hand me downs!

MrsLBear · 01/01/2019 11:41

@EltzBee I know what you mean. I was drinking a fizzy drink last night that looked like a white wine spritzer. And I was all sugared out!!!! One of the girls at the party kept nagging me to drink more I was like 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Eeeek for the digital!!!!!!
Makes it so real when you see the word pregnant!!
I did try looking on my drs website and couldn't find anything and I don't have log in details for their portal. Apparently the receptionist needs to make me some. So will maybe email them.

Ah @SullyWifey that doesn't sound nice!! I echo the others. Ring your midwife! She can just reassure you and explain it to you too maybe.

@Crossfitgirl I actually had a browse earlier just to see what was about but I don't think I would actually buy anything yet as there's always sales and I think I just get lured in by cheap prices.
That's so funny!!! Tbf we DTD yday and it felt weird!! I had to get the image of something in there out of my mind.

MrsLBear · 01/01/2019 12:11

Are any of you girls or have any of you considered going for an early scan?

Crossfitgirl · 01/01/2019 12:20

@mrsLbear lots have had early scans and seen the heartbeat. But for me I haven't felt the need to (although I was tempted seeing some on here). I'm waiting for my 12 week scan, DH isn't bothered either it's money we don't need to spend. It'd be nice to see what's in there but I've only got 4 more weeks, and it'll be all the more exciting when we can see the shape of the baby!

MrsEG · 01/01/2019 12:22

@MrsLBear I am at 8 weeks but only due to the fact I had an earlier loss. It’s for reassurance more than anything else!

sunshine1987 · 01/01/2019 13:10

@mrslbear we did at 8 weeks before we told people at Christmas xx

CookieWaffle · 01/01/2019 13:50

@Crossfitgirl your comment about getting it to fit in made me laugh! We had a similar problem!

@MrsLBear I just want a bit more proof still, I kinda wish I'd got a private scan done. But yeah I guess it's money we don't need to spend right now.

@SullyWifey I hope all is ok. I have had a few times where I suddenly had pain down there but it seemed to be just wind and once I moved round a bit it went away. Hopefully it's just that.

I'm definitely not looking at anything to buy yet. I guess if we saw something that would be hard to get another time we might consider it. We're at least thinking about where things might go in the house though.

CrystalBlaze · 01/01/2019 14:02

Happy new year everyone! Hope you're all doing well and feeling okay!

I am absolutely dreading going back to work. Only have 13 weeks left until maternity leave so trying to focus on that but I can't be bothered at all.

Sorry to hear about cramping @Sully - but just to reassure you I've had more weird pains than I care to count. 23 weeks now and baby is most certainly active in there.

mrsof20118 · 01/01/2019 14:44

@crossfitgirl we ended up ordering a pram from John Lewis. We got about £350 in vouchers for Christmas between us and it had £200 off so too good a deal not to. They also hold the delivery if ordered in store so we won't have to have it in the house until nearer the time.

EltzBee · 01/01/2019 14:46

@MrsEG it really is. And the cheapo poundland strip started changing colour before I'd even laid it down so very reassuring.

@MrsLBear oh totally at least with January we can say it's Dry January! I had a look at the private early scans but they do seem a lot of money and think we will try and wait.

ChaosMoon · 01/01/2019 15:49

I'm so pleased @CobaltRose96! And that's a great excuse. 😉

@SullyWifey my midwives said to go to A&E if the pain was that bad before 20 weeks. I'd at least call them, or 111. I'm sure it's fine but it's better to check.

@MrsLBear I always had back problems, and finally got to the bottom of it 2 years ago. Half an hour of yoga plus physio every day has had it under control, but the pain I'm getting now is stopping me doing any of that. ☹️

Good good, @sunshine1987 that's awful. I had no idea that happened.

@CookieWaffle mine was lovely but I found it just as weird that they didn't check. It makes the whole thing so much more surreal.

@Crossfitgirl We're supposed to do loads of sales shipping, but I'm feeling so overwhelmed with all the things we have to decide on first. The sales will be over before we make a decision!
