Thought I'd start this in honour of Purple's effort so far, hope you don't mind Purple I liked this title best.

Welcome to our shiny new thread

Hi ya

WELCOME Milf and Hal

Hope everyone is feeling good????

Still feeling poorly here, I'm afraid, even sitting upright or trying to eat leaves me exhausted, and nights are spent coughing my lungs up, followed by trying to breath through nose or ease my poor throat YUCK

I'm off to visit my mum and dad tomorrow so no internet for 3 days, it's M's b'day, i think she wants to see us so much she's willing to risk catching this

I have lots more i want to write, but i'll have to catch up in a few days

Thanks for the welcome Saw gp this morning and i need to have a blood test to see if I'm immune to slapped cheek so booked for tomorrow. He thinks it unlikely that dd will get it and even if she did I might have immunity so wouldn't catch it. Even if I did, there's no certainty that i'd pass it onto baby...phew. Nonetheless, the risk is real so I have to be tested for it. If I'm not immune he recommended I keep her away from nursery for a while.
I asked again about an early scan but he is resisting (found a private place but they need a gp referral)- he just doesn't think it'll help me and might give me false reassurance e.g if I start bleeding or cramping I won't get help because everything was Ok on the scan...very confusing, I don't know what to do. he did say i can request the 10-12 week scan for 10 weeks, which is only 3 weeks away so that seems the most likely outcome (negativity alert- that is if I make it to 10 weeks)

MILF, I know how you feel. Unfortunately I did mc when I got pg after mc but you are no more likely than anyone else so stay positive (ha ha, easier said than done). These early days are rubbish, I can't stand it

Mumpbump · 10/07/2007 11:14

Morning all! Just a quick post from me.

I haven't read through the whole thread as I am knackered. Have been signed off work for the week with a viral illness and told in no uncertain terms that I must rest. Basically, the doctor pretty much said that if I didn't rest, I could jeopardise the pregnancy and that losing the baby at this stage would be pretty horrendous - understatement of the century!! So sympathies to Uki. You sound in a similar state to me - heavy catarrh, coughing, bunged up and I even had an ear infection to boot. I think as long as you keep resting and make sure you are fully recovered before starting back on "normal life", I think everything should be okay.

It's been a bit of a reality check for me and dh to be honest and he has been fab at stepping into the breach so to speak. He is being very protective and just letting me go to sleep/sleep in, etc. I am already feeling much better although it doesn't seem to take a great deal of exertion to send me back to bed again...

Anyway, welcome and congratulations to Haylestones and milf. I hope that you both have boring pg's and draw as much support from this thread as I have done...

Mumpbump · 10/07/2007 11:15

Uki - if you haven't already gone, do try steam inhalations with olbas oil, vicks or similar. They definitely help unbung your air passages.

MrsMcJnr · 10/07/2007 11:39

You take care Uki, hope the trip to your folks doesn?t make you worse

Good to hear you have a plan Hayls ? take it you will keep her away in the meantime? Having problems understanding your GPs logic about the scan I have to say it is common knowledge that just seeing the baby and knowing that everything is ok at that point in time does a hell of a lot for PMA and that that in turn can make a difference to the pregnancy. Annoying that you need a referral for a private one ? are there any other places that do them? Edinburgh is heaving with them. You can get an early scan for about £95. I also don?t think that the fact of having an early scan would change the way you are treated if things get scary ? in fact, I know that is not the case from personal experience. It?s frustrating but I?d get the 10 week one booked just so you have it in the diary and have something to aim towards. I trust that there isn?t an Early Pregnancy Unit that you can self-refer to at a hospital near you?

Mumpbump ? sorry to hear that hon get well soon.

Haylstones · 10/07/2007 12:51

Dd only goes once a week to give me a break so not due back until next Monday- will play it by ear until then! I agree with what you say about gp but this is the second one I've asked and the answer was the same both times. I have found a private clinic nearby but there is only one of them, you need a GP referral and it's £226 . There are some slightly further away that would be a lot cheaper but I really want dh to come with me and he's working away next week so it would be 2 weeks away at the earliest, which would make me nearly 10 weeks, when hopefully I'll get my NHS one anyway! My letter has been sent off for the scan so just waiting for the date. There is an early pregnancy unti here but you need a GP referral and it's only open in the mornings and they also don't do scans until after 7 or 8 weeks(blurry memory but they wouldn't scan me after 1st mc cos still too early) so I'm limited with what I can do. Sigh, decisions decisions!

Actually, gp's exact words were 'the only point in having an early scan is to get a picture and proof that you are pg'. Seems prety valid to me

Apologies, I tend to ramble a bit

Hiya
Just had my 20 week appt-all was fine, low blood pressure, which is why I've been feeling a bit dizzy. They scanned again and also couldn't find any markers for downs either. Have got to have a GTT, as Dad has diabetes, also a growth scan at 28 weeks, to check that it is growing enough (checking that blood flow is ok through the placenta)-liking having all these scans-at 6, 9 13, 16, 18, 20 weeks!

Jossiejump · 10/07/2007 15:10

Hotchoc-I wish I'd logged on yesterday. I've got a 1 in 55 chance of downs, went for a private scan with a very experienced sonographer 2 weeks ago, he couldn't find any soft markers, then my nhs 20 week scan today, also no sign. Whilst it doesn't mean that its not downs, there is less chance, also if it is it should be less severe. I feel for you as I know I went through hell when I got the result. my hospital are great and understand why we don't want amnio, we had decided that we wouldn't terminate anyway.
Hope you are alright-best wishes

Mumpbump · 10/07/2007 15:51

Hotchoc - I just saw your post about ds. I think the bloods alone are quite unreliable. Shame it's too late for the nuchal fold scan. I think there was a thread on this topic recently which I will try and find for you... Back in a bit!

diddle · 10/07/2007 15:55

Hi ladies, just wanted to come on and congratulate you all on your pregnancies. I am now on Baby no2 after miscarrying both of my first 2 pregnancies. The worry is always there, even though it was a couple of years ago now.

Stay positive, careful and happy, and enjoy these lovely days of being pregnant as much as you can. you'll miss them when your babies are in your arms and you don't have a bump to stroke.

Good luck good luck good luck

diddle · 10/07/2007 15:59

MILF - i got pregnant again straight after miscarrying no period in between, try not to worry, i have heard sooo many positive stories about people who successfully went through there whole pregnancy with the same scenario as you.
I would try and take it as easy as you can though, not necessarily put your feet up for the next 3 months, but definitly rest as much as you can, as your body will have been under a lot of stress recently.

All the best, and share as much as you want to with people on here, it was a godsend to me, i wouldn't have got through my miscarriages without the support of some fantastic friends i made on here.

mygirllollipop · 10/07/2007 16:07

Firststar - I really need to email you soon, not long to go, hope you are well.
Diddle - nice to see you around too, hope things go well, I'm sure they will.

Frustrating Haylstones

Hey Firsty

Nice to see you Jossie great news about your 20 week and that there were no markers. Just shows you how stressful the screening tests can be. You must feel so relieved. That?s my dream right now. Like you, I?m getting a lot of scans: 6, 8, 14, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 & 40 all booked in! how on earth are DH and I going to stick to our guns about not knowing the sex!

Thanks Diddle it?s lovely when someone gives us hope like you have!

Hey Daisy

StrangeTown · 10/07/2007 17:11

Hello everyone!

Jossie - we are still in sync - I had my 20 week scan today and all was well too. I feel really relieved and positive. All measurements were good and sonographer was really thorough - took at least 45 mins.
So pleased that you didn't have any soft markers on this scan.

Milf - I had same - unexpectedly pregnant straight after miscarriage in Feb. Had no problems so far, although, like you I did worry constantly and it has stopped me enjoying my pregnancy as much as I could. I know nothing will make you feel any better, but do try to enjoy what you can.

MrsMc - 12 weeks - am so pleased for you!

Hello to everyone else - I love keeping up with you, just not had a chance to post much!

Thanks Firsty. How are you?

mygirllollipop · 10/07/2007 18:11

Diddle - you nearly gave me a heart-attack! No, not pg again! I have enough now, I think, no money or room for more. I just like to keep a watch on the thread for FS.
FS - I think everyone feels like that, although I really did want to avoid induciton too. Luckily the longest overdue I went was 5 days with DD1.

Glimmer · 10/07/2007 18:21

Hi -- it's been busy here!!

Welcome Hayls and Milf. The first weeks are very very difficult as we all know here. I was basically abiding my time and tried to get constant disctration to make it through. Please post and share your ups and down. This thread has plenty of ladies that were in similar positions and have now a succesfull pregnancy.

Mumpbump and Uki -- sorry you are sick. The cold that is going around here (I assume you have the same, Mump) is quite nasty and sticks around for a long time. I've had it for almost two weeks now. Am feeling much better but still coughing. Uki, your illness sounds quite serious. You know best, but should you travel? Hope you get spoiled if you do, but please don't go if it is too much. (I am talking a little to myself here..)

Jossie, Strangetown. Fantastic news on your 20 weeks scan. For me that scan was really the point, where I started to believe that this pg might actually work out. I am glad, Jossie, that they didn't find any soft markers and think that this is quite reassuring.

Hotchoc how did your appointment go and how are holding up?

MrsMcJ -- nice to have you back and congrats on the 12 weeks. That's a big milestone!!!!
I was also very anxious about the nuchal scan. The antenatal tests really have two sides: a positive scan is reassuring but the days before are filled with anxiety and worry. I am sure things will be fine and I will be thining of you.

Daisyboo -- seems you enjoy babyboo and are getting busier. It's always nice to hear from you!!

Firststar -- sounds like you are getting there... I think the fact that you are ready for an induction means you are closer than you might think... Good luck for you and don't get that nasty cold that is going around.

Fettle --how are you?
Everybody else >

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/07/2007 18:33

firsty...our routine consists of the world revolving around babyboo and the rest of us struggling to keep up with washing/housework/eating/bathing/sleeping

It's all good fun though!

A friend bought DD a lovely little rompersuit the other day which says "worth the wait" on the front...its so cute!

hotchoc · 10/07/2007 18:46

thanks for all the encouragement, the appointment went just fine, no more info really apart from that it is my hcg and age that have given this statistic, the afp reading is within normal boundaries. still pretty sure about the amnio, i did not realise tht you got results in 4 days, it is tempting to know for sure but i do not want to risk a m/c. doctor was lovely and straightforward, the midwife was patronising and a bit annoying really!!

jossie, i knew there was someone with a similar situation, so glad the scans went ok, i will be offered one at 22 weeks, the doc was reluctant to admit it is reassuring saying that i would still have the same risk even if the scan was fine. all these figures can make your head spin even when you are pretty numerate!

good luck on thursday mrs mc

mumpbump how's your mum? and yours daisy?

love to everyone hotchocx
