CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 06/07/2007 20:50

me too.I am having the whole house renovated we have been in 4 months) and I have this lovely daydrean of sitting in the conservatory holding my new baby in a house that is totally free of any workmen (at the moment there is somebody here every bloody day)

BecklePhoenixBird · 06/07/2007 20:53

You have my sympathies Chocolate! We have been in our house 5 years and are almost done now. My DH has been doing all the work so it is in fits and starts but I can just imagine myself with my new babe in my lovely house (with no bare-plaster walls or building supplies on the stairs etc). Keep hold of that image hun, it will happen x

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 06/07/2007 20:56

Kinda sick of the smell of damp plaster too and I think my preg hormones are not coping with smells anyway so it doesnt help.

At least we have finished a few rooms so that when people visit they dont think we are a load of clampetts!!

BecklePhoenixBird · 06/07/2007 21:38

Hehe! Is my stairs and landing being done at the mo - one of the first areas people see as they walk in! DH been stripping gloss off with a heat gun all week and the smell and fumes are horrendous. Even well ventilated it makes my throat sore - poor DSs have to have their curtains open and window wide open at the mo as they won't sleep with the door shut!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 06/07/2007 22:16

Thats our next job!

Cant wait.....

Bouncingturtle · 07/07/2007 09:58

I've decided. The nursery is getting painted a very pale green.
Going to take a couple of days off work in the next few weeks to do it.
How are you all this morning?

BecklePhoenixBird · 07/07/2007 11:37

Hi Bouncing, morning everyone else. Hope everyone is okay. Am tired this morning and got a busy weekend ahead. Off to a wedding this evening but it is an hour away (and guess who is driving...) and then tomorrow am going to see Justin Timberlake and again am doing the driving! Going to be tired on Monday but sure the concert will be fab!
Had my first person yesterday ask me if I was sure I wasn't having twins! When I said there was only one she then asked me if I was sure of my dates! 2 scans say I am! I am not too tall but very short in the body so baby has nowhere to go but outwards! Still, don't think anyone asked me quite this early with the DSs.

Uki · 07/07/2007 12:08

Hi All

Since you asked Turtle...

Can i be honest and say i am feeling rotten, I have only just moved out of bed after 2 days. I'm suffering with the flu, really not fun in late pg high temperature, aching body, etc and violent coughing that makes me leak even with empty bladder & keep worrying about the poor LO.
Oh woe is me...

pale green sounds lovely though

Beckle - enjoy the wedding and concert.

enjoy the weekend everyone else

Bouncingturtle · 07/07/2007 12:59

Oh no poor Uki! Sorry you are feeling poorly. I hope your OH has been taking good care of you. You keep taking it easy, maybe you should rest up a little while longer or are you starting to climb the walls?
Honestly, Beckle, some people can be soooo rude . Next time someone says it to you say something rude back! After all you can blame it on pg hormones

MrsMcJnr · 07/07/2007 17:41

Poor you ChocolatePeanut ? I hope things get better for you. Hold that lovely image in the conservatory, it WILL happen

Hey Beckle enjoy the wedding and Justin (drool, drool!) funny how people think it is ok to comment on the bump, dangerous territory if you ask me!

Green sounds nice Bouncing a pale apply green? Liking the idea of you having time off work

Oh Uki, poor you hope you feel MUCH better soon.

All fine here

Bouncingturtle · 08/07/2007 09:43

Woohoo! It's sunny!!!!

hotchoc · 09/07/2007 10:20

hi everyone, so many postings cannot possibly keep up. been on holiday for a week.

i wonder if you can help me out once again..... i've got an appointment with a consultant this afternoon because my bloods have shown a 1/23 chance of downs. i do not think i want an amnio because we will continue with the pregnancy whatever.
what i really need from you clever lot is some info or links to info about the afp and hcg levels and how they are worked out.. i am 39 and i am curious to know how much my age has influenced the result. your experiences and results would be useful too. also, since i did not have a period between pregnancies can the results be a little inaccurate?

thanks and love to all hotchocx

Glimmer · 09/07/2007 10:37

Hi Hotchoc,

Glad you had a good vacation and sorry for your worries about the blood results. You sound very calm, which is good, especially since your chances of having a perfectly healthy babay ate still more than 95%.
I do not know much about the hormones levels in this context but I think that you should ask for a detailed ultrasound scan, if you want to know as much as possible to be prepared just in case. I think they would look for soft markers that would probably tell you more than any blood analysis at this point. I beleive this scan will be offered on the NHS when you ask for it. I do not think that the fact that you didn't have a period in between had an influence on the result. All the best. Stay strong and we'll think of you.

MrsMcJnr · 09/07/2007 12:24

Bouncing ? here too!

Hey HotChoc it?s been a while! Hope you had a lovely holiday sorry about your blood results, it must be very worrying for you, and I truly empathise. I have the same views as you on an amnio. I don?t like the idea of an invasive test anyway, especially not one that has a risk to the baby. I was looking into AFP and HCG etc last week. AFP is the one that is low for Down?s isn?t it? Apparently, AFP tests are becoming increasingly unpopular because women?s AFP levels can vary greatly anyway. I think they can also be affected by the pregnancy being further or not as far along as was thought. Age and weight are also factors I think as are assisted pregnancies. I?ll log on tonight and send you some links I saw. If you CAT me, I?ll send you the chart I drew up to help myself decide whether or not to get the Double Test. My thoughts are with you, such a stressful time. I have my nuchal and related blood tests on Thursday and I am really nervous about jumping on the testing merry go round in case I can?t get off when I want to and have to make choices that I never wanted to make.

Hello Glimmer something I was wondering ? isn?t the Double/Triple or Nuchal Scan ? along with an Amnio if you choose to go down that route ? the only way to diagnose Down?s or other chromosomal defects? I thought the detailed scan could help with neural tube defect analysis etc but wasn?t sure if it could help spot chromosomal issues? Thanks hon I know there is some new research into the nasal bone and a link with Down?s but wasn?t sure if they routinely used that.

Glimmer · 09/07/2007 13:58

Hi want to catch up with everybody but instead just a quicky for Hotchoc:

I believe, they look for soft markers that can indicate Down syndrome. Besides the nasal bone, they look for heart and bowel problems and for the length of the femer (= thigh bone?). However, the probability that Down syndrome is detected by an anomaly scan itself without any other tests is 40-50% only. I am no doctor, just info from the web, so please double check.

MrsMcJnr · 09/07/2007 14:37

Thanks Firsty

HotChoc ? in the blue bar at the top of the page under the Mumsnet banner it says Contact a Mumsnetter ? that?s what I meant ? sorry hope all goes well. Will be thinking of you. Keep us posted.

Interesting Glimmer

Haylstones · 09/07/2007 14:42

Hello All, thought I would add my name here. I have had 2 mcs recently, both around 6 weeks and am currently just over 7 wks pg. Finding it all very scary, hormonal and emotional but byt he look sof things I'm not the only one! I already have a gorgeous dd who is 3.5 so I know I can have a healthy baby but am currently crossing everything and touching every bit of wood in sight! I'm feeling really really really tired, can't eat or drink much and keep biting dh's head of so I must be pg... haven't booked in with the mw yet, due to do that next week- was hoping for early scan for some reassurance but gp wouldn't recommend it. I'm not sure it would help tbh as it wouldn't stop the wors tfrom happening. Current worry I have is that there is slapped cheek disease going round dd's nursery, which I've read can be dangerous in early pg. She hasn't been in for nealry 3 weeks and the case was reported last Monday (today was first day back after hols) so I don't know how likely she is to catch it. Might talk to gp/mw about it... Apologies for rambling, I haven't felt able to join an ante natal group yet as it doesn't feel real and don't want to get involved and excited when I might lose this one as well.
Hope everybody is OK out there

Haylstones · 09/07/2007 14:46

BTW am actually Ha yls for those of you I've encountered before- found I was giving away slightly too much information on here and could be traced quite easily...

MrsMcJnr · 09/07/2007 15:48

Welcome Haylstones and congratulations! I think we?ve met before sorry to hear about your recent MCs, great that you are already beyond your own danger point, we?ve all felt much better once that stage has gone sorry to hear that you feel so sick, hope it means it?s a strong one! Sorry, don?t know anything about slapped cheek, I?ll let one of the others help on that!

Haylstones · 09/07/2007 15:51

Thanks Mrsmcjnr. Have made appt with Gp tomorrow morning as have read up on slapped cheek a bit and it looks like I might have to be tested for immunity as it's dangerous before 20 weeks... aargh! Hopefully she won't cacth it but knowing my luck she will

Bouncingturtle · 09/07/2007 19:15

Yep, big welcome to Haylstones, you'll have us all looking out for you now

How's everybodies days been?

UKI I hope you are feeling better today!
Hotchoc Welcome back, hope you had a nice holiday. Haven't got any advice to offer with regards to your Down's test, hope you get some clarity on that soon. Like Glimmer says less than 5% chance of Down's still.

Glad the pale green meets everyone's approval , just deciding when to do it!

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 10/07/2007 09:45

I am utterly terrified, had an MC 6 weeks ago and then (very unexpectedly) found out I was pregnant at the weekend. Have not had a period between the MC and now so i think I ovulated about 17 days ago (now 4 ish weeks gone).

I can't stop worrying and fretting that it will happen again. Already have one DD (16mths) so I know I can carry a baby to term but my mind is full of what ifs I can't cope with another one so soon after the last one.

MrsMcJnr · 10/07/2007 10:30

Hello Bouncing

Hope the appointment gives you some re-assurance today Haylstones

Milf ? what a long name! welcome and congratulations it must have been a shock so soon after your MC but when you mind settles into it, hopefully you?ll feel that it?s a blessing ? my friend Fettle (on the TTC Graduate board) had exactly the same thing happen to her and she?s now 30 weeks they say you are highly fertile after a MC and that once your HCG levels drop below 40-50 mgs it is possible to OV again so you must have got lucky with your timing try not to worry and just take each day as it comes I know that is easier said than done but we have all been there and whenever you fall again you fear that lightening will strike again, it?s just the nature of pregnancy after MC. Stick with us, we?ll help you through

Having an icky day - all beacuase I went to bed early without my horlicks, I think I let my blood sugar get too low. Silly girl! 13 weeks today still very nervous about the Nuchal on Thurs - just so hope it's good news: I know what I want to see and what I don't want to see just not what we will see!
