No sickness = boy? Any truth in this?

Hi all,

I was told today that lack of morning/noon/night sickness usually means you're having a boy. I'm 8+4 with my first baby and desperate for a girl (if we're having a boy I'll be delighted as long as he's healthy).

Does anyone know how much truth there is in this theory? I get ocasional, mild waves of nausea but not been sick or anyhting close. Two friends have said they're convinced we're having a boy on that basis! Your thoughts please?

Two girls and two boys here.
Both girls I felt awfully sick for around 14 weeks.
Both boys no sickness but utterly exhausted even more so than the girls.

georgie4 · 27/10/2018 22:50

Nope! My mother was horrendously sick with us girls and I had no sickness at all. Automatically assumed I was having a boy and ended up with a beautiful baby girl.

LBNM19 · 27/10/2018 23:00

I would say this defiantly isn't true. I've had bad sickness with all my pregnancy and having my 4th boy soon.

elpreggo27 · 27/10/2018 23:05

I'm pregnant with a boy; will be 20 weeks on Wednesday and am as sick as a dog

Hoosey · 27/10/2018 23:09

Severe hyperemesis requiring several hospitalisations with both pregnancies and I am the proud mum of two boys (I wish it were true!)

BewareOfDragons · 27/10/2018 23:11

I have 2 boys and 1 girl: wasn't sick with any of them. Nada. All lovely, healthy children... Sorry, you really can't tell from that!

HenryInTheTunnel · 27/10/2018 23:13

It's an old wives tale. I think it does depend on the woman. My mum was never sick in pregnancy and neither was i. She had only girls and i have a boy.

She didn't get a single stretch mark either but i got loads

I was also told that you get heartburn that it's because of your baby's hair. I didn't get any but DS had quite a lot of hair. It was all i could think about when he was first born as i was so sure he would be bald!

WhistlerGrey · 27/10/2018 23:13

Can confirm this is absolutely not true. Vile, life sucking hypermesis with all my pregnancies (boy and girl).

Lemontwist · 27/10/2018 23:13

I honestly think it's just a coincidence but...
DC 1 & 2, both boys, no sickness whatsoever.
DC 3, a girl, constant nausea and quite a few episodes of sickness until about 16 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP Flowers

Thank you SO much everyone for your replies! Now if anything I'm more convinced it's a boy despite the vast mayority of you saying you've experienced sickness when carrying boys etc, lol

I don't have many symptoms except a constantly blocked nose and being absolutely, completely and utterly drained virtually all of the time. And I'm about to start a new job. Oh joy! I can't stand sweet foods any more either - everything I eat has to be savoury except lemon sorbet which I may as well buy by the bucket load. It's more sour than sweet though.

First scan (9+1) on Wednesday, only being done on NHS as I have serious health complications. I'll keep you all posted in the next couple of months!

I had no sickness whatsoever. Was convinced I was having a boy. Every symptom/old wives tale pointed to it being a boy. I had a feeling I was having a boy, all of my family and friends had boy vibes too... I had a girl! I'd have been delighted either way, so long as the baby was healthy, although in my heart of hearts I did kinda want a girl. So she was a really lovely surprise Smile

I'm 13 weeks pregnant now, teeny tiny bit of nausea every now and then but nothing significant. I have boy vibes again, but my intuition was wrong last time, so we shall see ...

redwinebreak · 28/10/2018 02:12

I had no sickness at all and had a girl

costacoffeecup · 28/10/2018 03:00

Girl, not sick at all.

Currently pregnant with boy, sick as a dog.

TheNumberfaker · 28/10/2018 03:33

2 pregnancies, no sickness with either, baby was all front rather than thickening waist etc. First time round we didn’t find out the sex and everyone (including phlebotomist) said it would be a boy. I was in shock when they pulled out my lovely DD1 because I had convinced myself it would be a boy. We found out DD2 was a girl because I didn’t want the surprise second time round.

Birdie69 · 28/10/2018 03:44

I was so sick both times, I was hospitalized several times for each one for dehydration. I had a girl and then a boy. These old wives tales are nonsense.

MsHopey · 28/10/2018 04:21

First pregnancy i was sick of dry heaving every day, several times a day. From about 6 weeks to about 14.
Always felt like the nausea was going to suddenly get worse and hit me. I had a boy.
I'm currently 13 weeks with this pregnancy, I feel a little bit sick in the morning occasionally, but a slow drink of water and it's gone. Obviously don't know if it's a boy or girl yet, we'll see. But pretty much no symptoms at all this time.

icklekid · 28/10/2018 04:26

Hypermesis with both of mine (sick for entire pregnancy) one girl and one boy!

TwittleBee · 28/10/2018 04:32

The two of us that suffered the worse sickness (during our whole pregnancies) in the antenatal group had boys!

Rarfy · 28/10/2018 05:21

@Squiff70 i was the one with a blocked nose and boy. My craving was...lemons. i eat raw lemons like satsumas!

With this girl its cream cake and chocolate anything savoury leaves a minging taste in my mouth.

squeekums · 28/10/2018 05:26

I was 27 weeks when i found out i was pregnant, with a girl
No sickness whatsoever, no symptoms whatsoever

rainbowquack · 28/10/2018 05:31

I threw up horribly with all four of mine.

I did, however, crave vinegar with all three boys and not with my daughter.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 28/10/2018 06:03

Hi squiffy. I like you really only imagined having a girl so like an idiot was even slightly dissapointed to find he was a boy. He is utterly ace though. Secretly hoping number 2 is a girl as I will always wonder! They will be amazing regardless of sex.

In answer to your question. Boy no sickness at all but he's the first boy in two generations on my side of the family and no one got sickness with any of the girls either.

PinkFluffyFairy · 28/10/2018 06:07

Acute sickness/nausea with 2 girls.
None with the boy. So true for me!

olivesarelife · 28/10/2018 06:20

No sickness at all with my first! dd

momoa80 · 28/10/2018 10:54

I think it's personal for you.

When I was pregnant with my dd, I was sick, felt sick and was sick. With my ds I just felt sick...

I'm pregnant again (10wks) and have been so sick haha, so I'm thinking girl! I'll be shocked if a boy but I'm only am going off my previous pregnancies, difficult to say with your first.
