No sickness = boy? Any truth in this?

Hi all,

I was told today that lack of morning/noon/night sickness usually means you're having a boy. I'm 8+4 with my first baby and desperate for a girl (if we're having a boy I'll be delighted as long as he's healthy).

Does anyone know how much truth there is in this theory? I get ocasional, mild waves of nausea but not been sick or anyhting close. Two friends have said they're convinced we're having a boy on that basis! Your thoughts please?

Nope, I didn't have one inkling of feeling sick with DD. In fact, I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms whatsoever.

Soubriquet · 27/10/2018 20:06

Worked for me

First born was dd. I had severe HG until 16 weeks

Second born was ds. I had feeling of nausea but no vomiting

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 27/10/2018 20:06

I threw up 10+ times a day from 5 weeks until the day I gave birth.....to a boy.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 27/10/2018 20:06

I was sick morning, noon and night for 9 months with both my boys. So no, I don't believe no sickness=boy

DDogMum · 27/10/2018 20:06

I was nauseas for first couple of months, but only sick twice (both times I over exerted myself so could have been low BP related).
Currently 32 weeks with a boy

BretonStripe · 27/10/2018 20:07

Two pregnancies. Two boys. Normal morning sickness with 1st, HG with second.

Completely understand why you'd like to have a girl this time, if just for a change and bit of balance. Don't feel guilty for feeling that way, and absolutely agree you'll adore your child regardless of sex (I cried for 24hrs after the 20 week scan but then quickly bonded and wouldn't have him any other way now).

NotANotMan · 27/10/2018 20:07

Nausea is a response to pregnancy hormones, not whether the foetus has a Y chromosome or not.

spacefighter · 27/10/2018 20:07

I had no nausea with any of my pregnancies and I carried pretty much the same too and I had two boys and a girl.

Starlight345 · 27/10/2018 20:08

I had hyperemisis with a boy

DramaAlpaca · 27/10/2018 20:09

I had horrendous nausea & sickness until past 20 weeks with all three of mine. They are all boys.

beanaseireann · 27/10/2018 20:17

I wasn't sick at all on one dd

bobstersmum · 27/10/2018 20:18

Had two boys with no nausea. Then a girl with horrible nausea.

FairfaxAikman · 27/10/2018 20:19

With DS I only got nauseous if I hadn't eaten and only threw up once. However I got horrendous heartburn late on and that made me puke a lot.

Racecardriver · 27/10/2018 20:19

I have two boys. With great sadness I can confirm that this is bollocks.

Nutkins24 · 27/10/2018 20:20

Nope, I was convinced that I was having a 2nd girl as I had slightly worse sickness 2nd time but he’s definitely a boy!

preggersteach · 27/10/2018 20:20

I was incredibly nauseous for the whole of my first trimester and had a boy

FifiLeBoo · 27/10/2018 20:20

My first was a boy and I was as sick as a pig from just before I woke up until about 3 pm every day for 5 months, so no in my experience it's not true

beanaseireann · 27/10/2018 20:44

Now my dsons were a different matter and one dd fine. Other morning sickness. No pattern.

PlinkPlink · 27/10/2018 20:44

Sorry OP. I had sickness up until week 14. Bloody awful. Had tablets for it too!

I think the way people carry is a good indicator, though of course totally not reliable. Seems to work in my family anyway 😂

MyMumDimensionJumps · 27/10/2018 20:51

I had sickness with my son and even worse with this one - both boys. It doesn't mean anything, apart from the fact you're really lucky!!

userabcname · 27/10/2018 20:57

I had hyperemisis and could not even think about food for the first 20 weeks without vomiting and I had a boy. Honestly those old wives tales are bollocks, just find out at a scan if you really want to know.

CraftyGin · 27/10/2018 20:58

My worst sicknesses were with my boys.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 27/10/2018 20:58

True for me

Labradoodliedoodoo · 27/10/2018 20:59

Sick like a dog with my girls

laurenluke2017 · 27/10/2018 21:00

I was sick once. And i had a boy! No morning sickness though! I think i was sick cos of something i ate though. Apart from that no sickness! @Squiff70 x
