No sickness = boy? Any truth in this?

Hi all,

I was told today that lack of morning/noon/night sickness usually means you're having a boy. I'm 8+4 with my first baby and desperate for a girl (if we're having a boy I'll be delighted as long as he's healthy).

Does anyone know how much truth there is in this theory? I get ocasional, mild waves of nausea but not been sick or anyhting close. Two friends have said they're convinced we're having a boy on that basis! Your thoughts please?

No sickness either time and one of each.

sunnyday1976 · 27/10/2018 19:38

One of each, and no sickness with either.

hugoagogo · 27/10/2018 19:40

One of each; sick as a dog with both.

LotsToThinkOf · 27/10/2018 19:40

Nausea with both boys.

Takemetovegas · 27/10/2018 19:41

Only morning sickness I had was with my DS.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 27/10/2018 19:42

I had HG, had a boy

Armchairanarchist · 27/10/2018 19:43

All day every day until their births, two boys and a girl.

gilmoregal · 27/10/2018 19:43

I threw up daily for 38 weeks and had a boy

snowone · 27/10/2018 19:44

I'm 21+5 with DD2 - I had no sickness is either of my pregnancies.

greendale17 · 27/10/2018 19:45

I know 3 women who had horrendous morning sickness- all had boys

Ta1kinpeace · 27/10/2018 19:47

Two pregnancies
utterly healthy right through both
one girl, one boy

jobbymcginty · 27/10/2018 19:49

I was on a drip 3 times due to severe vomiting and nausea I have 2 boys so no truth in it

Talith · 27/10/2018 19:49

Two sons. No sickness with first, sick as a dog with second so in my experience no correlation to sex.

countrybunny · 27/10/2018 19:50

No I was sick as a dog and had a big

Shockers · 27/10/2018 19:51

Didn’t Kate have sickness which hospitalised her with Prince George?

Furrycushion · 27/10/2018 19:51

Never had a moment of sickness with DD or DS.

GoldenMcOldie · 27/10/2018 19:56

3 DC.

Dc1 - boy, nausea and tiredness (no vomiting) till 14 weeks
DC2 - boy, nausea, extreme tiredness, no vomiting until 10 weeks.
DC3 - girl, hideous nausea, vomiting (6 times a day or more), horrendous exhaustion and vomiting until 22 weeks.

scrivette · 27/10/2018 19:59

Sickness at least every day until birth, 2 boys and a girl. Was in hospital with one of the boys.

BertieBotts · 27/10/2018 20:01

I don't think any of these myths are remotely true but just for fun - no sickness for me either time with my boys :)

sickmumma · 27/10/2018 20:02

I've got two of each (well currently pregnant with the second girl) and although I have been sicker with the girls (22 weeks and still sick) I was still sick with the boys too so if it's your first I don't think there's any way of knowing!

harrietm87 · 27/10/2018 20:04

I think this comes from the fact that the higher your HCG levels, the more likely you are to feel sick (though each individual’s tolerance for hcg is different), and you’re more likely to have low levels of HCG for a boy. But since you could have a low tolerance for HCG, and/or you could still have high hcg with a boy, it’s impossible to say on an individual level. FWIW I had no sickness, very low hcg, and had a boy.

Avocado0nToast · 27/10/2018 20:04

I threw up horrifically both times...girl and a boy! The sickness was worse I reckon with the boy but not much difference. My friend never had any sickness and just had a little girl...so nope no correlation I don't think. People just react to the hormones differently.

shirleyschmidt · 27/10/2018 20:05

For me the wives tale was true. I felt sick as a dog for ages with DD, vomiting regularly. With DS it was nausea only and didn't last as long.

hoopdeloop · 27/10/2018 20:05

Hyperemisis with both of my boys

AdoraBell · 27/10/2018 20:06

DH’s ex was sick to the point of being medically ill while carrying her son.
