Can I join?! Due 12th may according to my app. Booked a GP appointment for around 8 weeks. I have zero symptoms yet apart from a bit of very slight cramping/pulling in my tummy. Took another test at the weekend as felt too normal for it to be real. Can’t wait to tell my parents! We said we’d wait until 12 weeks but not sure if I can wait that long x

EspressoPatronum · 13/09/2018 21:19

We told our best friends the day we found out as both needed to chat to someone in our shocked states!

Planning on telling my mum in a couple of weeks when I see her in person. Dh's mum has Alzheimer's and mixed type dementia so not sure when we'll tell her, though if I do get morning sickness she might realise something is up! (We moved in with her in December as she can't cope on her own yet but not bad enough for care yet either. One of the few reasons we were planning on putting off ttc number 2 for a while...)

Not planning on telling anyone else until closer to 20 weeks at the moment. Might feel differently when we've gotten over the shock but I'm not ready to deal with congratulations yet, I'm petrified!

Dreamydaisy · 13/09/2018 23:19

Hi Everyone,

I got my positive result today, still in shock and scared, trying not to get my hopes up as had a miscarriage in april. Have made my husband swear not to tell a sole until after our 12 week scan. Had my miscarriage at just before 8 weeks so will wait til im 9/10 weeks I think before contacting Dr's and requesting midwife visit. All being well and this being a sticky bean, they will arrive in may 2019 xxx

Youvegotafriendinme · 14/09/2018 06:56

dreamdaisy congratulations on your BFP and Flowers for your April loss. Maybe a 6 week reassurance scan might be good for you? I’m in the south east and paid £75 for the one I’ll be having. I k own it’s a lot but it will put my mind at rest. Just an idea for you. X

BabySquid · 14/09/2018 07:10

@Dreamydaisy and @India1819 welcome and congratulations on you're BFPs.
My cramping is easing up a bit now but this backache is getting stronger.

@hopefulmother you'll have to let us know what the midwife says and how far she thinks you are.

@Youvegotafriendinme will you show us your early scan picture. I hope all goes well for you. Xx

Looking forward to hearing about the midwife appointment and what to expect!

I have had a few chemical pregnancies and so am also going for an early private scan too youvegotafriendinme. Feel like I need solid 'proof' before I can get excited.

RiverMeadow · 14/09/2018 08:26

Me 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ took a test yesterday 3 weeks and 3 days due 28th May! Appt has been made at doctors now fingers crossed everything is ok! Congratulations everyone x

India1819 · 14/09/2018 08:55

This is all very new to me. Does any early scan show if you're likely to miscarry before 12 weeks? Literally every time i go to the loo i'm half expecting to see blood. Also finding caffine hard to avoid at work as there is no decaf available and don't want to arouse any suspicions!

Youvegotafriendinme · 14/09/2018 08:55

@sundayGirlB the booking in appointment is about an hour long and they ask you everything about yours and your partners family history, Any previous pregnancies, your state of mind, take your height and weight etc. Most places expect you to go alone to this. With my DS, DH came with me but this time my letter states to come alone.

@babysquid of course, only a week and 3 days to go!

@rivermeadow how exciting for you! Congratulations

Isn’t it odd how it’s all so different depending on where you live. Some places you go doctors, some the first appointment is with midwife. Where I live you pick the hospital you want to have baby, fill out the online form then wait for the booking appointment and first scan appointment to come through the post, the rest of the appointments you make yourself.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 14/09/2018 09:07

I am 6 weeks roughly and calculated that my due date is 09/05/19 according to the NHS website. I have one DC who's 16 mo and the due date then was the 10/05/17 😂

TwinkleBear · 14/09/2018 10:43

Hi, can I join? Just got a BFP last Thursday and according to my apps, I'm 6 weeks today! EDD 9th May! We've been trying for about 6 months and this is the first BFP we've had! Fingers crossed for a healthy baby!

Haven't really had any symptoms yet , at times a bit queasy but no real sickness or nausea. Feel tired but hard to tell if it's any more so than usual.

I've told my closest work colleague but don't think we'll tell parents until about 12 weeks, hopefully around the time we've had a scan. It feels like forever to wait!!!! I want to shout it from the rooftops but I can't! Aaaah!!!!

Wishing us all beautiful healthy lovely pregnancies and babies!

BabySquid · 14/09/2018 12:56

@Youvegotafriendinme it is strange how it's different where you live. But on the NHS website it tells you to ring the dr as soon as you find out so that's what I did.

@Opheliasgoldenwine @TwinkleBear welcome lovelies and congrats on your BFP's. I love how many of us are due in May.

I wonder if I'll get to pick my hospital, I don't mind BRI but the parking is a nightmare and I think DH will get annoyed with that!!

@BabySquid I think you do get some choice of where to give birth. Check out this Which? Mini quiz that tells you where in your area would be the best option for you depending on what you want. For me there was an option of 2 hospitals.

www.which.co.uk/birth-choice/where-to-give-birth

BabySquid · 14/09/2018 13:23

Thanks @TwinkleBear looks like BRI it is!!

I'm quite set on having an epidural... In my opinion, in this day and age of advanced medicine, why would someone need to feel that much pain??!!! The midwife tells you when your contractions are and you're more in control... obviously though, I'm no expert as I've never done it before!!

OP posts:
Opheliasgoldenwine · 14/09/2018 13:50

@BabySquid if that's what you're planning on then that's great but epidurals don't always work (mine didn't) and they statistically make you more likely to need intervention. Just letting you know that it won't always go the way you envision it to, not to be patronising, just friendly advice Smile

India1819 · 14/09/2018 14:04

I'm out with the girls tonight...at an all you can drink prosecco and pizza night! Obviously I won't be drinking but I'm not 6 weeks until sunday so don't know if I should say anything yet. So how do I play it? If i say i'm driving/not drinking I think they'd suspect as it's a big night that's been planned for ages and that's so unlike me.

I don't know if to risk telling them (They are very close friends and I don't see them often altogether so would be a nice chance to share the news buuut we've not even told family yet)!! Or do I just keep a full glass and try to play along that i'm drinking then make my excuses earlier???

BabySquid · 14/09/2018 14:05

Thanks @Opheliasgoldenwine
Only thing is, I absolutely hate the idea of gas and air. I hate the feeling of being drunk and when you see them on OBEM they always look out their faces! And most of them don't listen to the midwifes... I just don't want that at all!!

OP posts:
BabySquid · 14/09/2018 14:07

Ooooo @India1819 that's a hard one the play... can't you tell them you have a water infection and are on antibiotics??

OP posts:
India1819 · 14/09/2018 14:11

hmmm BabySquid I don't know if that's too much of the standard pregnant lie...the last couple of times i've had antibiotics it's been OK to drink on them too!

BabySquid · 14/09/2018 14:20

How about dental antibiotics... you defo can't drink on them... I was meant to be on them last weekend which was a good excuse at a wedding I went to. So I had them in my bag and it says on them no alcohol.

OP posts:
Youvegotafriendinme · 14/09/2018 14:40

I am going to Disneyland Paris in October for a few nights and while there last time got hooked on their glowtini cocktails and now this time my in laws are coming with us I’m praying they do a alcohol free version so they don’t suspect!
india if it was me, I’d go with the ‘keep a glass in your hand’ option. Will it be a more casual setting or a sit down? You could always ask for water/lemonade etc to have with your meal and just drink that. If you keep the prosecco on the table and look like your drinking it, I’m sure once everyone else has had a few they won’t notice.

RiverMeadow · 14/09/2018 14:41

You could go to the bar yourself and just get a coke? Pretend it's vodka 🙈

RiverMeadow · 14/09/2018 14:42

Oooops just realised its prosecco and pizza! That won't work then... x

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 14/09/2018 14:47

Say you’ve got to drive in the morning so can only have one? Then make it last all night.

EspressoPatronum · 14/09/2018 15:04

I've said I'm going to do 'sober October' to lose a bit of weight, but I don't think that will help you India sorry!

Can you have to drive for some reason?
