Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

yes i agree with that but there is also the fact of living upto a name, names can also place expectations, like Romeo, how much will that child be teased 'oh come on ROMEO mr loverman' you know, one has to be careful to us our child is special but they mihght not like to stand out. My husband was given an unusual name and he has had to change it because nobody can ever say it and het it wrong all the time, or go you what? when he says it so now hes changed it at work and people and him feell more comfortable

My youngst has a quite unusual name. Not because we wanted him to have an unusual name, but because we wanted a name we felt suited him and we actually really liked this name. Some of my family absolutely hated it and tried talk us out of it, which upset me quite, as it is not a weird name, just not really used much anymore. I think it is lovely, it means "pier" in my language, and "ocean" in Hawaiian, apperently. People have big problems spelling it, despite consisting of only three letters, lol!

Imagine my surprise when one of my neighbours at the end of our road had chosen the same name for HER son born 2 weeks after mine, and HER shock when I told her "Oh, that is my sons name". And the records at our GP surgery? Can you imagine, two boys with the same unusual name, born two weeks apart, exactly 20 houses apart? They kept for ever confusing us, each time I came, they had changed MY sons details to his, as they thought it was just the one child, and not two.... lol?

I've got an unusual name. I hated it as a child as no one could pronounce it which drew attention to me - unfortunate as I was a shy child. Anyway when it came to naming our dc I just could not envisage him with any of the usual boys names - didn't seem to suit him. So we gave him an unusual name but he has a common middle name. That way, if he decides he doesn't like his middle name when he's older, he can use the middle name.

We should probably call all children 'girl' or 'boy' till they can decide for themselves.I wish ds1 and ds2's names had appeared on here as i would think it great if most of you didn't like them.Quite a ridiculous thread.

thing is whatever you anem your child, you have the potential of other following you....

We found it easy naming dd (list as long of the street) but so so struggled with ds.
BTW, our dd is named FREYA......!!!!!!!!

None of our family had heard of it 2 years ago.....but now mum says " oh everyone seems to be named it" . Hey ho.

btw, just reminded myself..when expecting ds a pregnant woman I met was discussing names. Wanted to use both of her & dh's dads names...
So..Jack for 1st name and daniels for the middle name..Hmmmmmm....Not ideal BUT Could cope with that BUT then she realised that their surname was CAFFREYS...haaa.!!!! ROTFLMAF...

R u sure she wasn't pulling your leg. Daniels and caffreys are unusual names (without the 's' common).

1st name : Jack
2nd name: Daniel
Their surname is caffrey

My typing added the extra s's..!!!

I recently met a 4 year old Jezabel. Mum obviously had no idea of what the name was associated with - wonder who would be brave enough to enlighten her?

My pet hate is odd spellings of otherwise perfectly nice names - like Rooban instead of Reuben. Just makes it look as if the parents are illiterate IMHO.

Ahem - Unquietdad, I don't 'get' your name either!

I've always been called by my initials in real life and on here but couldn't have TC so had to lengthen it to TeeCee, fyi and fwiw.

My main nitpicking thing about names is when parents give a girl a name meant for a boy (and t'other way of course).

Everything else I put down to fads

Tricky that one. Where I am from Kim is a boys name. Here it is a girls name. My friend Kim (male) spent his childhood and teenage years in the US and did not like having a girls name at all.

I love girls names for boys and vice versa.

My youngest is sidney and she is a girl.

I love kim kelly and kerry for boys.
