I would sooner poke my eyes out with a sharp stick than name my child....

Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

I agree Binker, though I might not have come on here and said so My absolute highest priority was not to give DS a name everyone else would have (although we did give him a common name as a middle name because we loved it so much). As a result he has a rare-to-the-point-of-nonexistent name that I'm sure a lot of people think is madness (though it is normally shortened to something verging on the heard-of). I spent my formative years thinking I loved the name Eve/Evie, now I'd never use it because it's all over the place. OTOH I know people who actively want to use common names so their kids don't stand out. Loons!

My name's Ellie...

I was the only Eleanor in my school of 1200 pupils, and now they are everywhere, but 25 years younger than me. You just can't tell which way naming trends are going to go!

I think Avarice is a pretty name for a girl...

And you don't get many Adolfs these days. That'd be nice and unusual.

people feel free to say how they dislike certain names on other name threads so I don't think I'm being too controversial, but I really don't want to offend anyone...I love mimsnet too much for than...

My Freya is 7, she was the first one, it was my idea, mine mine mine, all the others just copied me!

Ha- I have had the last laugh though, moved to Canada with my common Freya and Evie and now they are super-elite has no one has even heard of those names here.

lots of people who have unusual names hate them but now having unusual names is the norm and way more common that have common names.

I'm glad I had my kids before I became a teacher, as some of the little cherubs have put me off a few!

Mind you,you only need a good 'un with the same name to win you back.

I'm not going to name names though.....ohhh no, too hot a topic for me

Aha, but I am not left handed!
(I am actually...)

Binker, I'm not offended! It is quite odd though, I was used to my name being fairly unusual, and now people are always yelling it in supermarkets and I turn round and stare at them all confused...

wow that's profound alex! I think you're right. But there are still always going to be those top 10s and names of the moment.

I do confess when someone has a new baby and names it Ellie or Adam or Tom etc. I do think "Oh not another one!"

NB has anyone noticed that there are Adams everywhere now as well? So in 20 years' time there are going to be quite a lot of couples called Adam and Eve...

I like Eve,actually - or Evie...I also like plain traditional names like Catherine...my parents considered calling me an exotic Persian name but thought better of it (just as well as I'm not dusky and exotic in the least)
