Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

I knew a boy once called Bifford. Biff for short. It didn't go down well in Falkirk, apparently.

katelyle · 07/06/2007 07:06

Well, if I can't have Margarine, how about Listerine?

I have never laughed so much at a thread - and my ds is called Patrick, which was one of the names that someone said they would never use! What does it matter what people in cyberspace think about my child's name? And anyway the jokes were mostly about words that could never really be used as names - Wireless, Carpet and Vladyvostok for example! I will be amused on and off all day at the thought of the twins Avarice and Adolf.

i hope i didnt cause more upset.....

ggglimpopo · 07/06/2007 08:46

Thank you for the Maud comment Alex8. This is certainly a very pleasant, erudite and kindly thread.

LilRedWG · 07/06/2007 08:50

for you GGG. For what it is worth, I think Maude is a beautiful name and suited your DD perfectly.

fillyjonk · 07/06/2007 10:08

aw ggg

actually i love the name maude also

LynetteScavo · 07/06/2007 10:19

My grandmother and her sisters were called Gwendolyn, Maud, Dulcie, and Margorie (sp?) As a child I though they were all very old fashioned, but I wanted to name my daughter Gwen (DH wouldn't have it)I can see all those names being really fashionable now- except Marg.

I really like Elsie, and don't know why that hasn't become popular. Any one know of any young Elsies?

SSSandy2 · 07/06/2007 10:20

so should we just number them and be done with it?

Blu · 07/06/2007 10:21

Does this thread really deserve two days in active convos? (I mean, it isn't about a serious parenting or news topic, is it?) Shall we let it slide into oblivion?

Blandmum · 07/06/2007 10:30

My mum had a friend who's seconname was Bathsiba. He father wanted to call her Bathsheba, but couldn't spell it. Thinking about it, I'm not sure if I can spell it wither !

A girl I was in school with has a father who has the two middle names Javelin and Pyramid. his father was pissed when he names him.

Nowt so odd as folk.

Blandmum · 07/06/2007 10:31

sorry blu

BandofMothers · 07/06/2007 10:42

Sorry in advance Blu, but just had to add that when I lived in the States a woman there had called her baby Lemonjello. No kidding.
Pronounced(as best as I can) Le mon je lo.

No judgement just mentioning

UnquietDad · 07/06/2007 10:45

I do often wonder whether it's just that people can't spell the names they have in mind, and/or have only ever heard it without seeing it written down.

It's surely time to link to this piece of hilarity again.
