Kyle
Ellie
Jaden/Jayden
Chanelle
etc etc... and apologies if you have called your child any of the above
I put Ellie because a squillion little girls are called that.
Freya is a nice name but there are so many now - it really turns me against such names,no matter whether they are nice

I think Sparkplug, would be a better match.....

And then you could call him Sparky or Plug, depending on how much you liked him!

LynetteScavo · 07/06/2007 12:39

I didn't realise MN was only for serious perenting and new isues.

Of all the parenting issues I've ever had to face, I think naming my children has been the one I've taken most seriously.

Cascara · 07/06/2007 13:10

Dammit, someone link naming children into some earnest and preferably divisive issue that links to lots of serious studies.... and dammit keep it that way!! And get more personal again!! No way should a thread ever move on from the offender/offendee battle!!!

ScottishMummy · 07/06/2007 14:18

the book freakonomics attempts to link givn name to socio-demographics and social staus and outcomes

imo spurious

UnquietDad · 07/06/2007 15:44

Anyone remember this article ?

ScottishMummy · 07/06/2007 15:51

scsarey to think they make such wildly sweeping (and of course) inaccutrate judgements on names ...oooo eeeerrr
freakonomics has basically the same premise to it

kerala · 07/06/2007 16:05

LynetteScavo I know two baby Elsies both are utterly adorable. I think its a lovely name and its on my list for next time..though think I would go for Elspeth, Elsie for short.

Blandmum · 07/06/2007 16:22

Hatrick, funnily enough all the Dannys that I have taught have been tinkers as well! And two of them are now very fine, amusing young men in the sixthform. Still tinkers!

Ettenna · 08/06/2007 09:19

At the school I taught at in London there was a Lillette, an Armani (whose younger brother was - I swear - Versace) and a Fanny.

Not my choice but they certainly brightened up the register...

GreebosWhiskers · 08/06/2007 09:40

My dd3 was the only Mhara registered in Scotland in 2005

ds is Rowan which I have heard once or twice. dd1 is Joanna, shortened to Jo and dd2 is Abigail, shortened to Abi (her own spelling).

My sis has friends who named their little boy Callan, which I quite like. They got it from MacCallan whisky lol.

dionnelorraine · 08/06/2007 10:07

my name is slightly unusual. But I have met a boy with the same name, spelt differently. Im quite protective of my name, I hate when someone famous / character has it. i.e. Clueless! Everyone spells my name wrong and says my name wrong too.

I was the only one with my name in every school ive been too. I like being a little inuique (sp)

My dd has a very traditional name, she was named after her grandma, elizabeth.

kerala · 08/06/2007 10:07

My friends a doctor and she had to dissuade one mum from calling her daughter Placenta as she liked the sound of the word...

dionnelorraine · 08/06/2007 10:09

yuck!

ScottishMummy · 08/06/2007 12:39

placenta LOL

thing about names is they are so deeply personal what sounds divine to one person is ghastly to another person

so i chose the baby name with boyfriend after months goin thru books with him goin eeeeuuuggg to many i actually liked..

Beauregard · 08/06/2007 12:42

My dd1 is called Benson
dd2 is Hedges.

ScottishMummy · 08/06/2007 12:55

southern and comfort

Beauregard · 08/06/2007 12:57

If i have a 3rd child it will be Femi for a girl or Dom for a boy

allgonebellyup · 08/06/2007 13:10

Chelsea is a nice name..

Ahem (coughs)

ELF1981 · 08/06/2007 13:15

My daughters name is Evelyn, and you can call me a middle class wierdo if you like, I dont care!!

Names are such an emotive subject.

My name is Emma btw, a very common 80's name!

Beauregard · 08/06/2007 13:16

I love Evelyn it is a beautiful name.

ScottishMummy · 08/06/2007 13:40

thumbs up to evelyn

nattyp · 08/06/2007 13:45

i feel there is abit of a competition these days of who can call their kid the best name so all these weird names keep coming up...what is it about having to be different...like posh and becks, brooklyn, romeo and cruise i mean they are the most borin g people ever there is nothing different about them at all, they are so predictable and boring yet suddenly when tey have kids they want to show the world they are 'different' and kooky and creative and call their kids these stupid names...why bother,

TaylorsMummy · 08/06/2007 13:57

i know what you mean but some people just want their kid to be slightly different.i didn't want my dd to be one of 3 or 4 with the same name.luckily she is the only one at her nursery with her name.if i have another i will go for something even more original! lol. it gives the child a little something extra and makes them stand out.if everyone was called james, tom, katie or whatever it would be boring.
