Pregnancy 12 week + post IVF/infertility - general chat and support

Janefx40 · 09/07/2018 21:11

I thought I would start a thread for those of us pregnant post IVF/infertility. There are lots of pregnancy clubs on Mumsnet but it feels like a slightly different experience having got here the hard way!

I've put 12 weeks + because there is another group for women who have just got their BFPs. That is such an anxious time and definitely needs support.

But I thought this group might pick us up a little further along - over the first panic but still learning about the experience.

Not being exclusive tho - if you think this is the group for you, come along in...

So come and join us if you would like to xxx

@Decafplease, I’m sorry to hear it was too risky to have a stitch. I pray that your little one stays put and has the time to continue to get stronger. I know this is so draining for you - physically & emotionally and we’re all sending lots of positive thoughts. 💕

wombats · 26/07/2018 18:44

@Decafplease, thinking of you and sending loads of good thoughts. Every day that your little one is inside gives him a better chance. Hope they are looking well after you in hospital and you're feeling well supported. It's so unfair to go through this after all you've already been through Flowers Do feel free to chat here if you need support or a handhold xx

Fox23 · 27/07/2018 17:46

Afternoon girls,
How is everyone doing?
@Decafplease any news? I did some reading and apparently every day makes massive difference % wise! Still in hospital on bed rest?
I’ve been having the strangest side effects- I’m sneezing all the time. Literally every 30min if I’m lucky. Anybody else suffering from this?

Xxx

Janefx40 · 27/07/2018 18:26

Hey @Fox23 hay fever? Different people get it at different times? Or maybe you are allergic to something in the house?

I'm ok. Still full of headache but called in sick this afternoon and slept for 2 hours which has helped. About to go back to sleep - I'm loads of fun for DP at the moment.

@Decafplease thinking of you xxx

@Janefx40 oh poor you! It’s awful when you get headaches as you really can’t do anything but sleep! Hope it passes real soon 😊
Regarding my sneezing- I though exactly what you suggested! Except i not allergic to anything (except scallops) and I have never had hey fever. Then I though I’ll do some reading. It’s rhinitis! Official pregnancy symptom!

Liverpool19 · 27/07/2018 21:47

Hi everyone!

Oh fox how strange is that!! I’ve had a bad headache today and the lower part of my back is really sore. I actually look pregnant this week so I think my body is growing and he’s causing me pain 😂

decafplease I hope your ok 😘

Xx

emalady · 28/07/2018 10:39

@fox23 I assumed my hay-fever was just a bit worse this year but it should be getting better now so I guess my sneezing is pregnancy related too.

12 week scan yesterday was fine but could not get the nuchal fold measure so decided to pay for a harmony scan next week, 2 hour drive each way which sucks but the closer ones had nothing until 20/8. Did anyone else have a harmony scan?

MarthaMe · 28/07/2018 11:20

@emalady Hi, yes I had the Harmony test done they came back with 1:10,000 so we are hugely relieved! Also found out we are having a baby boy so we'll worth the hefty £400 price tag!

Fox23 · 28/07/2018 11:34

@MarthaMe congratulations on boy!!!! That’s sooo amazing! And 1:10000 is also superb! 2hr drive is just a part of the experience, right? 😁
@emalady sorry, I just the standard nhs 12 week scan. So can’t advise on harmony...
so, yesterday I put cot bed together! Looks sooo surreal 😮

MarthaMe · 28/07/2018 12:33

Thank you @Fox23 we are super happy.
Our clinic was only a 15 minute drive so I feel for @emalady having to travel so far!

emalady · 28/07/2018 13:08

@marthame there is a clinic loads closer but it's about a month before any appointment we could make so the 2 hours should be OK. Get a day out in Brighton too so not all bad!!

Liverpool19 · 28/07/2018 14:24

Hi ladies, I didn’t have any tests done I didn’t want the worry hanging over me if they came back bad. So what will be will be! X

Janefx40 · 29/07/2018 08:28

Hi @emalady I had the Harmony done at 10 weeks. It was fine - just a quick scan to check you're not having twins and a blood test. We also got a reassuring result and found out the sex of the baby. It's basically completely accurate so if it says low risk, it pretty much means the baby doesn't have it.

@MarthaMe congrats on having a boy. I realise you've probably known for ages - but it's still lovely news xxx

emalady · 29/07/2018 09:06

@janefx40 thanks, we were going to wait to find out what sex but now I know I can find out I'm really excited!

MarthaMe · 29/07/2018 09:59

Thank you @Janefx40 we've actually only known a couple of weeks. I had my Harmony test at 10+4 but it came back inconclusive so had to be retested at 12 weeks. It's a lovely feeling knowing I'm growing a baby boy, I feel even more bonded to him now ❤️

Janefx40 · 29/07/2018 10:01

I know @emalady we didn't realise we could find out the sex until just before. We were going to find out at 20 weeks. I'm glad we found out because it has actually taken me quite a bit of adjusting - not that I was expecting one or the other - I hadn't even realised but because me and my brother came along in a particular order (and are really close), I had subconsciously expected my own family to be the same. So it's been good to readjust and know our family will look different. Xxx

hailseitan · 29/07/2018 10:19

Ooo @MarthaMe a boy! That's great news. Congratulations! How lovely to know already.

What is this harmony thing? I'm 14 + 4, does that mean I could find out now? I've absolutely convinced myself I'm having a boy. It's been in my head since the day of egg transfer and I just can't imagine anything else. Would like to know if I'm wrong or right!

Liverpool19 · 29/07/2018 10:53

hailseitan I was the same as you. Certain I was having a boy paid for the gender scan at 16 weeks and was correct 😂 I would of had a heart attack it they’d of told me a girl!

MarthaMe · 29/07/2018 11:34

@hailseitan the harmony test is a blood test that check for any chromosome issues (downs, Edwards & patau) but also give you the gender results but it's £400! I did have the combined screening at nhs too which also came back low risk.

Janefx40 · 29/07/2018 11:39

It's occurring to me now that I know nothing about babies. Has anyone bought any of these how to bring up a Baby books? Any recommendations?

X

OP posts:
hailseitan · 29/07/2018 11:40

@Liverpool19 Ooo well this gives me hope (not that I'd mind if it's a girl, but I'd just have to adjust my thinking!). Maybe when you know... you just know?!

@MarthaMe Oh wow that's expensive! I had the tests with the NHS too and they came back low risk. I don't think my husband would let me get this harmony one too haha. Damn!

Liverpool19 · 29/07/2018 11:49

jane I’m not getting any books, I’m lucky I have lots of friends who have just had babies in the last year that I can ask for advice. My sister in law her hubby read every single book he could think of and it done him no favours at all. All’s he used to say IS “well the book says he should be doing this” all babies are different and I think (so I am told) it comes to you naturally 🤷🏼‍♀️

hail everyone was telling me I was having a girl. I was like like nope. It’s a boy I don’t know why I was so certain I just was. Soon as the egg was in I said to my boyfriend this is a boy 😂 xx

VillageFete · 29/07/2018 11:52

Hi ladies,

I just wanted to ask a question on here. Have any of you had IVF due to PCOS? Were you prescribed Metformin during your pregnancy?

I have had 2 rounds of IVF (one chemical preg, one just didn’t implant) Anyway, I started taking Super Ubiquinol CoQ10 and Myo-Inositol and find myself pregnant naturally! I’m only 5 weeks and terrified i’m at increased risk of miscarriage due to PCOS? I’m not on Metformin and my tub of myo-Inositol says to stop taking when pregnant, so i’m just letting my body do its thing but am so worried I need some extra help?

MarthaMe · 29/07/2018 11:57

@hailseitan I just knew I was having a boy too. DH was convinced it was a girl and so was both parents! Us mummies to be just know don't we :)

@Janefx40 I was thinking I should get a book too as I know very little about babies!! It's funny you spend years trying for one without gaining any knowledge about them 😂
I only read the other day that they don't need bathing for the first 2 weeks after birth. It's little things like that I need to start learning! Let me know if you find a good book.

emalady · 29/07/2018 11:57

@heilseitan I think you can get a private gender scan from 16 weeks which is cheaper than the harmony but still a lot more than NHS! I probably wouldn't be able to justify the harmony except without nuchal fold its ages to wait if there is a problem.

I have also been convinced I'm having a boy but started to doubt /change my mind. Can't wait to find out. Can't believe how quickly this year is going but how long we still have to wait.

Anyone made decisions about when they hope to stop work? We book holidays for the next calendar year in September time, can't decide if I'm going to have a week off in January or just start mat leave.
